Noticed Spigen cases for iPhones are marketed as MIL-STD 810G-516.6 Military grade drop-tested, but not for Nexuses.
Example:
http://www.spigen.com/collections/iphone-6s-plus/products/iphone-6s-plus-case-ultra-hybrid-tech
http://www.spigen.com/collections/nexus-6p/products/nexus-6p-case-ultra-hybrid
Both are very similar in design and has air cushion technology etc. I'm assuming the nexus cases are just as durable but spigen hasn't gone the extra step to certify?
To be honest, I have no idea. Maybe Spigen didn´t certify these cases because the demand is quite low in comparison to cases for Apple devices ? Spigen cases are great though and offer a good value and protection for the money. It´s too bad that Spigen didn´t offer a tougher case like eg. a Slim Armor for the Nexus 6P. The Spigen Rugged Armor I have is great and quite slim in comparison to other TPU cases but in terms of protection I like bigger and bulkier cases like eg. the ones made from Otterbox. I use a modified Poetic Revolution Case for the Nexus 6P now and like this one even better
Well as far as I am aware... The speck candyshell are mil-810g tested even for the nexus6p.... For the spigen nothing is advertised for the cases... Plus its not as tough as speck cases so wouldn't believe as well

So you saying you don't believe spigen's military certification for their iPhone cases because it isn't as touch as speck candyshell?
http://www.spigen.com/collections/iphone-6s-plus/products/iphone-6s-plus-case-ultra-hybrid-tech
doesn't look much different from the nexus version of the same case series.

Just curious what makes the speck candyshell so good in terms of drop protection. It is recommended by many as the case to go for at $40. Looks like a thick case with some non-slip grips & certified. Doesn't look much different than those cheaper ebay cheapo cases in terms of design who knows they could also pass drop-test certified but don't bother paying for the test?
I'd imagine the design of the cases for the same mode l(e.g. Ultra Hybrid) are broadly the same.
As such I'm going to assume they are not "graded" as nobody has performed the necessary test.

oh man.. the build quality on this thing is worth every dollar.... and believe you me.. i had 2 drops since i got the case... one was waist height(Damn skinny jeans) and other was almost head height(i'd say 5feet) both survived...
this is case is not cheapo out there.. it's solid and also with that bend thing going.. of having a weak-point.. i wanted something that can handle it... i would suggest this to anyone.. infact 2 of my friends got it..
P.S. the white one looks better than the black(i got black)

I don't like the black or white models. Want mine boring and plain looking solid color if you know what I mean. You think the candyshell is more rugged than POETIC Revolution? Want something that can handle hiking and outdoor activities.
I don´t have Candyshell case but I own a Spigen Rugged Armor ( which is similar to the Spigen Ultra Hybrid in terms of dimensions ) and a Poetic Revolution. You can see a side by side comparison in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/mod-ultra-rugged-poetic-revolution-t3307492
I´m confident that the Poetic Revolution case is the stronger option in terms of protection

Poetic Revolution is more stronger for impacts.. but is also much more bulkier... i got both Poetic Affinity and Revolution.... i'd rather suggest affinity to revolution....
I'm considering the Affinity because I like the clear for this phone. I'm coming from a Moto X that was sporting a Supcase and was dropped many times. How would you rate the Affinity for protection and "dropability"?

Learned something new today. MIL-STD 810G-516.6 is a shock test where a device is dropped 4ft on to concrete floor 26 times. If it survives without damage then it pass.

A while ago I saw my friends case on her S4. It was the UAG case in an orange/grey color combo. She's had it a couple of months. It looked pretty cool, so iI asked her how she likes it.
Her response was that she likes it a lot.
I then asked her if she's ever dropped her S4. Her response was:
"Oh yeah, I drop it all the time."
That's exactly what I like to hear when determining whether I want to give a particular case a go
I liked the look of her case, but didn't know how it would hold up to drops regarding protecting the S4. I had been using a Cygnett WorkMate Evolution case for a month or so. I like it, but the UAG is a slimmer and better looking case, but I was unsure if it would protect my S4.
Well, I had my answer, as she 'drops it all the time," and her S4 is intact.
I purchased the UAG in black yesterday from Amazon and just received it today.
Here's my opinion so far:
- really nice looking case, minimalistic, yet protective
- fits the S4 perfectly. Snug as a bug in a rug, as they say
- generous usb and earphone plug ports
- volume and power buttons have an excellent/responsive/clickie feel to them.
- nice lip for screen facedown protection
- corner protective bumpers incorporate into the layout and total look of the case very well
- has a very nice feel in hand. Imo, can use a little grippier feel, but as I've only just received this case a few hours ago, I'll give it some time. I'm coming from the Cygnett WorkMate Evolution case, which is bulkier and grippier, so as I said, I'll know better in a couple of days regarding whether the not as grippy feel will be a factor.
- while the metallic UAG branding on the back of the case is of high quality, I'd rather have it blackened instead of the matt metallic it is now. I pay enough money for the case that I don't have to be a walking billboard for the UAG Company. I'll wait a bit, but I may dye the matt metallic to a darker color. Maybe not.....
- the UAG has now replaced my Cygnett as my EDC....
- protects my friend's S4 after 'dropping it all the time.'
After purchasing the UAG, and prior to receiving it today, I watched the linked video below, which also confirmed the protection of this case.
I also linked to Amazon, which shows the available colors.

I hated the Neo Hybrid too. I ended up keeping it because I forgot to fill out the return form Ahaha
I have the black UAG (Looks badass with the black s4), the orange (looks cool, I'll admit that, but in person and on your phone it looks a bit obnoxious) and the blue (I havent been using it that much, just love how sleek the black case is)
Actually have a hot pink one for the wifey's iphone 4 ( yes our house is divided haha) thats pretty cool.
I have the OD green for the s3 too and really wish they'd make an s4 version.

Pink? Hmmm.....
Nah, I'll keep the Black:laugh: (They don't make it for the S4 anyway, unless the Plasma is the equivalent of the Pink)
I almost ordered the Slate/Blue but chose the Black.

A month or so before getting the UAG case or any case, as I always went caseless, I ordered the glass tR I believe it was. I returned it because I decided to order a caseionly, and take my chances that the screen wouldn't take a direct hit to a corner or an edge of something.
At the time, I decided nottto oder the Slim because I thought it was too thin, and wouldn't protect the screen as well as the thicker protector. This was confirmed by SGP in response to an email I sent.
I think the Slim was .15mm, and the tR was .40mm and the glas t is .25mm without round corners if I remember correctly.
With the above being said, how does the UAG screen lip height and Glas t protector height match up?
I have been reading lots of posts in XDA trying to decide what my case should be. I bought the Incipio dual layer case just to get me by until I did some more research.
All of my other phones have had Seidio active case/ holster combos. They have been really good cases
I have been thinking of trying something different this time
The UAG is on the top of my list
Im in construction so I need to have a case that can withstand my environment. I have dropped my Rezound with the Seido case from about 10' on concrete multiple times and nothing ever happened to it.
Do you guys think it can hold up like the Sedio case does?
I remember seeing someones post in another topic in XDA that the UAG case will fit the Seido holster
Can anyone confirm this?
I also want to get a desktop charger for the phone, Is anyone with a UAG using a desktop charger, if so what charger are you using?
I have seen lots of people talking about screen protection and getting a case that has the front clear protector such as the otterbox. Im not sure why people think that a clear plastic cover would stop the screen from breaking, besides the screen is gorilla glass 3, if that screen takes a hit hard enough to break it, a thin layer of plastic wont make any difference other then to keep all the tiny pieces of glass from flying all over the place
Thanks for any info you guys might have
@Hitch_Itch
I can't answer all of your questions as I've not had experience with the accessories you've asked about, but the following will answer some of your questions:
- I have no doubt that the UAG will not fulfill your requirements for your environment.
- the UAG can survive up to a 6' drop, as per the videos, but I'm not sure if it would be on a consistent basis.
- my opinion would be that you would need a case that offered Full wrap protection such as the model you mentioned, that you dropped from 10' without issue. The UAG wrapped S4 would no doubt suffer massive injuries from that height
- in your environment, there would most likely be drops from even short distances were the S4 would hit an edge, corner, etc., land on its screen which would crack it, as the UAG case does not have a built in full wrap screen protector incorporated into it. As you mention, the screen protector would only protect against scratches.
- no way can the UAG hold up under extreme conditions such as the Seido case can.
This is because the UAG case is not meant to be. It doesn't fall under the Extreme Environment, Full Wrap, Closed Ports Umbrella, so to speak. That is a whole nutha subset of cases for quite different needs/requirements.
- If one is looking for an everyday case with a minimalist footprint, that is lightweight, easily slid into a pocket, offers adequate protection from drops normally encountered during everyday use, and is aesthetically appealing, I highly recommend the UAG. But for Extreme Environment survival, I don't recommend it for the reasons I mentioned earlier.
As is said, the right tool for the right job. Or something like that
While looking at the UAG, I came across many cases. One of theseccases was the Griffin Survivor.
I said to myself if I ever need a case to protect my S4 under the most of Extreme conditions, this is the case I'd take a serious look at and most likely purchase. I'm posting a link to it:

I just watched a bunch of video's on drop test for the UAG and in every video the screen cracked at a fall above 5'
Also watched a bunch of videos for the otter box and the Trident case drop tests, both protected the phone and some of the videos were a 50' toss down a set of concrete stairs.
Sounds like the UAG might not be the best case for me.
Thanks for the reply

Well, it's been a week since I received my UAG in Black for my S4.
I'll keep this short & sweet, as I posted in detail my observations about this case.
The UAG is definitely a keeper and am impressed with it.
As for the case maybe not being as grippy as I'd like, and I was going to let some time pass to see if it would be an issue, it's no issue at all. The case is not slippery at all, and offerers a good hold.
I haven't dropped the S4 yet, so I can't given you any feedback on drop protection, except what I wrote in my op.

I'm actually going to keep both. I really like the way each one feels and could see one used more over another at different times.
The Slim Armor feels great (very sleek) while offering good protection.
The Tough Armor feels a little more beefy, but still great.
They were already cheap on amazon, so might as well just have both!

One problem i found with Spigen is that it is easily scratched. I understand that it is cheap but still, ugh!
I have the tough armor, but what I don't like is the 2 sharp rectangular sides instead of smooth curved sides! I prefer Neo hybrid!
I came here searching the difference for both cases ? Someone said tough armour is beefy. So protection will be more right
I just checked at Spigen site and they say Tough armour case has EXTRA air cushion technology for all sides against the slim armour case which get at sides only. I guess tough armour case is more protective than just beefy

The tough armor makes it hard to press. The slim has much softer rubber so it's much easier to press (and you feel the click while on the tough armor it's like pressing rubber).
Spigen won't be making any cases or accessories for the Nexus 6P. I hope this changes, maybe if we email them enough and generate interest they will change their mind.
Spigen decided to make a nice line up so far of their cases!
Here is the breakdown of their accessories so far:
-Rugged Armour (Black)
-Slim Fit (SF Black)
-Ultra Hybrid (Crystal Clear)
-Crystal film (plastic screen protector)
-Glass.tR Slim (temprered glass screen protector)
-NeoHybrid EX (Silver, gunmetal)

Well maybe they will change their mind. I already have Google some a Ulysses Grant and then some for their cases. I'm still open to a Spigen cases if they change their mind.

That's unfortunate I really like my Ringke Slim on my Nexus 6 and my Ringke Fusion. I wonder why so many big case company's are skipping it?

That's true I bought a Verus, 2 of the Google knes and some random TPU one. If they don't want my money I know many other people that do.
I love the Nillkin frosted cases. Using them on my OPO and OPT.

well it was only announced today and won't be out for a month, so there's not much out there. that said, these 3 look promising, particularly the ivoler one which i had on a previous device and was outstanding:

PC, I never liked tpu cases for some reason. The Nillkin frosted cases don't offer 360 protection though but I like the grip and that it protects the back so I can lay it down on surfaces.
Their loss. No worries, China case makers will gladly step in.
My guess is that these companies have to redesign their "series" cases to adapt accordingly to the black bar on the phone.
I really do hope Spigen, Ringke reconsiders and if we want it to happen then we should make some noise on their social medias to let them know that we're interested.
Diztronic might be making a case for the Nexus 6P. https://twitter.com/Diztronic/status/648967216998711297 -- always was a fan of their TPU cases on prior phones.

I don't use twitter buy I'll make one to help promote interest in these cases. I think people underestimated the popularity of the 6P
I also created a poll on G+ just search for Pilz XDA I don't know how to share the poll in a link from my phone. I'll try to post it here when I get home

Guys, I am a massive clumsy git!
Had/have an S5 currently in a spigen tough armor that I've needed to re-screen once in past 2 years.
I'm VERY nervous about destroying the lovely 6P that'll be winging its way to me in a week or so...
Is the Spigen offering the most productive? I saw a drop test for the iphone 6 + and it was damn impressive!!

I'm a little out of touch, so is there a better more protective case available for this 5.7 inch beauty?
Thx guys!

I don't have any experience with either the Crash Guard or Spigen cases, but I've watched several tests of the Crash Guard and they sold me on their product. I'll be getting it when it becomes available. I'm still up in the air regarding a screen protector, however. I've always had tempered glass and really like them, but after watching the Rhinoshield videos of their screen protector, it's gotten a little more difficult to make a decision. Here is a link to their product page for anyone who hasn't seen the torture they can take.
http://www.evolutivelabs.com/pages/rhinoshield
In particular, check out the ball peen hammer and ball bearing drop test vids:

I'm definitely buying the bumper from evolutive labs. I like bumpers, but the videos have really sold me onto the product. I'm unsure about the glass/screen protector. Again, the rhino shield videos look very impressive, but I haven't heard enough about it. People use tempered glass often enough and don't complain either.
Spigen is where I will get my tempered glass if I do decide to purchase it instead of the Rhino shield though.
The Rhino shield glass cover has me sold, need to find eviews on how it feels in action!

I would probably throw the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro into the mix as well. The regular Unicorn Beetle is damn tough too. Evolutive Labs has confirmed a Crash Guard Bumper for the 6P, but not a PlayProof case.
is the playproof case stronger/more protective than the bumper case do you think?
i ahve my unit arrived and have barely taken it outta the dam box!!
I can't wait to get my hands on the Rhino Shield Crash Guard when it releases

Never had a problem with any of Supcase's cases.
To be totally honest, all you would really need is the standard Unicorn Beetle case (Not the Pro) and a tempered glass screen protector... Nothing more. It's seriously THAT good. I work in the oilfield and this combination has saved my phone so many times... even times where I thought it was doomed and the tempered glass broke. You could literally drop your phone's screen on a rock from 5ft and it would only break the tempered glass protector. The actual screen will be fine.

Me too other than a lack of a belt clip. That is the missing piece to all the cases out there. How do you carry the phone? Until I get my leather holster or a belt clip/case, I've been putting my 6P in my front pocket. Works for work slacks, but not for jeans.

I usually just put it in my pocket. For me, belt clips have always been more annoying than anything especially when sitting and standing repeatedly. I wear jeans and don't have an issue. I'm guessing you may be smaller than me or at least have smaller pockets lol.
Can some one edicts me as ro why a tempered glass would be superior to the rhino shield?
That rhino shield seems amazing
Thx

Rhino Shield's videos don't show comparisons to other forms of protection so it's hard to know the difference without testing it yourself. I've personally never used a rhino shield so I cannot say, but there are things we should consider.
1. Is it better than a standard tempered glass protector?
If yes, by how much?
2. How does it feel?
3. After all this, is the difference, if any, worth the cost and/or really needed?
I can only say, from experience, that a standard tempered glass protector has done it's job at protecting my device... even in some extreme conditions. It has never failed me. With this in mind, and if the Rhino Shield is much better, why should you need it if latter is proven to be good enough. Again, this has been from my experience. The only time I could see the Rhino Shield winning, if it is truly better, is at excessive drop distances, but does that ever really happen?

Haha, yeah I've got about 5-7 inches on you. What kinds of cases have you used in the past? These Supcase cases don't stick to cloth material like Otterbox has been notorious for.

They work differently. Glass breaks to dissipate energy while the multi layered plastic supposedly reflect some of the energy back. Both help spread the energy across the surface. Not an expert. But a lot of people like glass because the glass ones maintain the same FEEL on the screen while the Plastic ones have a more mushy feel.

Otterbox defender mostly. I love my 6P and think the design is pretty to look at, but slippery as all get out in my hand. I like the Beetle but wish it had a belt clip with it. I bought a leather holster made for an iPhone 6s Plus and hope it will fit the 6P with the basic Beetle on it.

Yeah, that's your problem. Those Otterboxes use like a rubber material that can be very clingy. I don't think you'll have any issues with the standard Supcase case, but the Pro model does come with its own clip so you may consider that one too. Only downside is it's a little bulkier and it hides the beauty of the device whereas the regular model kinda accents its beauty.
You also make a really good point about the glass vs rhino shield. The rhino shield won't break because it's not glass, but the tempered glass will. There are many manufacturers that provide lifetime warranties on their glass protectors though so you could essentially buy 2 for the price of the rhino shield and get one replaced if it breaks while your backup protector takes over. That would probably be the best way IMO... I just don't trust or like the feel of anything other than glass, personally.
Thx all for the great info... amazing insights. What tempered glass system would you endorse?
Do they stick on the screen or are they part of the case? Sorry for being dumb, as I said am out of touch!
I'm open to suggestions. It's getting annoying because it looks like most of the cases I've looked at mostly have fake/paid-for reviews, e.g this one—looks like it could be a good case but I don't think I'm going to patronize a company paying for fake reviews.

Also, I'm having a very hard time distinguishing between the Spigen Slim Armor and Spigen Tough Armor (both with kickstands. If anyone can tell a difference please let me know, they appear to have the same dimensions, drop rating, etc, although I don't see precise millimeter raised bezel descriptions for the slim armor. Given the prices I'd probably just get the tough armor if it's not actually any bigger.....

It is actually little different by 0.01 inch in thickness if you look closely. Should be around 0.25 milimeter. That is why it is called slim.

Oh dang you're right, sorry it was late when I was looking :highfive:.
So, a quarter millimeter thicker for close to half the price. Anyone have personal experience with slim v tough on this or other phones? Seems like an obvious choice *if* I go Spigen (and I'm still open to other options too).
Not me, both of them are still bulky to me.
So...any suggestions then?
I have the Obliq Skyline ordered from mobilefun canada but it's been delayed a week. I picked it over the Slim Armor due to colour (Went with the Silver to go with the Silver G5).
From the videos I've seen of other Obliq cases, it doesn't look bad at all but I'll have to wait until it's in my hand to really confirm how good of a case it is. The TPU material is gonna make or break this case.
If you go to Verizon they have for 1 the 25 bucks that's what I have it's the way to go has kickstand and off and a holster for carrying it on your belt
