auto encrypt/decrypt sms app request suggestion - Security Discussion

Hi, I recently registered to ask this question: I found an app that can send encrypted text over the network, it also exchanges keys, and when it receives a text automatically decrypts in the SMS app, I'm wondering if anybody knows how to mod it so that I can also intercept outgoing messages and encrypt them? I know this is possible because there was a Google Voice app that could do that once, this would just be for encryption,
The app is linked here, it hasn't been developed for a long time

sorry if this is in the wrong section or anything

Are you asking for a app that encrypts messages sent from a 3rd app? (Or encrypts mail? Or what?)
Or just a sms encryption app like smssecure ?
email encryption app ?

saying an appp I could send sms regular through my regular ap but it would intercepted and encrypt without needing to open up a special messaging app. so I could still use to stop messaging app

No
I have not find anything that even remotely works like that.
Anywhere.ever.
I have spend a huge number of hours and days looking at various encryption apps and methods for sms and email.
And I have found nothing that lets you use your app, intercepts the text, encrypts it and sends it.
Nothing that even intercepts sms in Any way honestly.
And I hope that I never do add that would leave a huge security vulnerability in Android.
Yes I know that sms can be read by any app..
But not as far as i have found anything that intercepts incoming or out going sms.
The app you linked to is very similar to smssecure which is a open source sms encryption system formed from text secure when they went internet only messaging.
Sms secure is the standard for sms encryption.
There is even a version around that doubles the key length used.
I don't know of anything better for sms

Intercepting Text Messages

I get alot of text messages from some people and my partner would like to be able to intercept those messages so he can have a copy of them on his Wizard. How would he go about doing that?
You want all you SMS messages forwarded to another phone?
think he want to set rules for which ones are forwarded
Your "partner" can't intercept them.. But you can do one of two things..
Either create a program intercepting all incoming SMS'es, always forwarding them to him. You could append the sender phonenumber in the body of the sms or something so he'll know who it is from..
The other thing you could do .. is write a client/server app, so when you get an sms, it's intercepted and posted to a homepage/server you have.. Your partner could have a clientversion which regurarly synchronizes the data from the server and adds them to the cemail.vol file.. making it seem that he ha got the sms aswell..
Another thing again .. you could just make another app which sends the incoming sms as an email to your partner.. Many ways to do this.. but he can not intercept them.. you have to forward them either as an SMS, Email or pure data via a server solution you code/develop...
"Either create a program intercepting all incoming SMS'es, always forwarding them to him. You could append the sender phonenumber in the body of the sms or something so he'll know who it is from.."
he can also make a program which only intercept sms's from a list of phone numbers or where surden texts or char's are present
but the program would need to run all the time and periodicly check for new sms's
i would like a program to reject sms messages or mms messages by phone number like i was able to do with my old phone.

I think I'll just go with the first suggestion. Thanks!
MOD EDIT:
this is obviously illegal.
lets move this discussion to the Q&A section

Hey all. Nearly 2 years have gone by since the last post in this thread and I know technology changes over time. I've done some reading about intercepting SMS/text messages but I was wondering if there are now any other ways to do this.
I want to be able to intercept text messages sent and received from one particular CDMA mobile phone number, or to have them forwarded to me without the person's knowledge. I don't have physical access to this person's phone, but if it helps I do have their ESN/MEID for their device.
I'm not so worried about intercepting phone calls or anything. I can get close enough to the user's phone though to be on the same cell tower as them if needed in order to intercept or have the SMS messages forwarded to me.
Are their any options for making this possible without direct access to this particular device? I understand the idea behind copying the identity of the target phone using a SIM card, but again, I don't have physical access to the phone in order to do that. Thanks!

Guys,
Isn't this illegal? You're literally asking to be the NSA or the government, snooping information without the person's information or consent?
Spying on a significant other?
Cheers.
good point. didn't read the last post.

[Q] Security: Why some Apps read SMS

I want to know why some Apps read my SMS...
Downloaded "Go Keyboard" from the market and I think it is a nice App. But when I read the (German) comments, some people complaint about that this App can read your SMS.
What do you think?

If the keyboard should be smart it needs to learn from your typing. One way is to read your SMS/texts or emails.
So you think this is important for the app to work properly and can be neglected?
Maybe sounds like a stupid question but I am still an Android beginner.
Anyway there is nothing important in my messages that I should worry about...

As nothing is save on the internet... it's up to you. The app isn't unknown and widely spread/used, I'd not worry about giving the requested permission.
Other apps however... different story. Rethink your decision everytime an app requests permissions.
If the app works w/o that specific permission is something I don't know. There's an app that can restrict specific permissions, requires root and I sadly don't remember the name right now.
Of course an app can work without certain permissions. But those permission make it more powerful and add functions. If you chopped off your arms, you couldn't entertain someone with juggling could you ?

Just saying
I wondered the same thing! I recently switched to KelLMSKing MIUI Mod and now when I get an SMS, I get two notifications. One is Car Locator wants to read my SMS. It is a GPS App where I can save my car's position in a parking lot and find it easily again. I have no idea why it would want to intercept my SMS messages, so I Deny it.. I looked it up and apparently in some countries, you can pay for parking by text message, and receive reminders that time is running out. That's a feature I'll never use, so I'll just tell it to remember to always Deny that request. The other notification is from Touchdown, which gets my Exchange Server emails for work.. I'm not sure what SMS it would be looking for, so I'll deny them, too
As for the keyboard, I have no idea why it would want to read incoming messages or how that would help it to learn your style.
I think it's more of a perusal of the messages for commonly typed words so that it knows the best words to recommend and predict. Like a scan, to add your speech to the dictionary.
I don't believe any developer is sitting up at night reading my texts. If he is, he should hit me back and help me out with some of my problems. <_<
What is Facebook's excuse then?
edit SMS or MMS

Facebook just blatently wants info to target you for advertising... but because theyre so big most people don't care
Facebook needs that permission to verify your account. Afair there's an option to add your mobile# to your fb account.
An application in the market that has been around awhile should be fine. Google will remove malicious software as soon as they know about it. It is new apps asking these permissions that I would be weary of. I use the Go keyboard myself and love it with royal purple neon theme.

GO SMS encryption plugin

I was looking for an application that would encrypt and decrypt SMS, so that the carrier, or anyone else listening in, would be unable to monitor SMS traffic. To be clear, I am referring to a shared key system for SMS traffic, not encryption of saved messages.
The real question seems to be, could a plugin be created for GO SMS or even the stock msg app that would allow this feature. It would be important to make encryption strong ENOUGH without increasing the size too much like PGP would. Also, one must consider the original developers of GO SMS (Asian dev team) and the right to create plugins for their software.
Any ideas?

[Q] How to view blocked sms on opo cm11

I would like to view the blocked sms, Is there any method to restore it back to messaging inbox? Or it was straight away deleted upon receiving the message from blocked phone number?
Unblock them and you should be able to see them. Depends on your SMS blocking method as well.

I am using cm11 built in function. I unblocked it already. However, the blocked messages were not restored by cm11

Hmm... if you use a texting app such as ChompSMS (or any others) that have the blacklisting feature. i know on chompSMS when you add someone to the blacklist, and when you remove them... the text message will reappear as well as the messages they've sent to you before blocking. It could possibly be a limitation of the blacklist feature built into CM?

I think so, I looked around and found some people suffered the same problem. However, no one answered them. I hope CM team should implement this feature. "View blocked Messages" :good:

Going insane. Please help Google assistant and SMS!

When I use Google assistant to send a message it randomly doesn't record the message in the text app. The recipient receives it ok but it doesn't show up.
I've tried about 10 other SMS apps they're the same.
Is there a problem with Huaweis app that Google assistant can't access? Any help please?

Not sure.. but with all Google apps I give them full control/permission and allow secondary launch etc.
Give that a try

Permissions are all granted. What do you mean secondary launch? You mean try a different launcher?
Hello
do you mean that during recording the text doesn't show up , but once you leave the record button it goes to the recipient instantly without the ability to check it or what ? a pic might help as i didn't understand much

Ah ok no it's simpler than that. Speech to text etc works fine.
The outgoing message does not appear in the messages or text app. For some reason Google assistant understands the speech and sends the text, but doesn't communicate with the SMS app to say "this is what I just sent so stick it in the convo list". Seems to bypass the SMS app and I've tried about10 of them now. Same problem each time.
I think it's confirmijg what I always thought i.e. android is a perpetually buggy unfinished system!
Hello again
-not sure - maybe these command may work
“Show me my messages”
also why not trying to check the messages with Hangouts that may help
Appreciate you trying to help.
The issue is that the outgoing messages don't show up at all when done from GA. In any app. Show me my messages whilst it might work is not an adequate solution as I shouldn't have to speak that into GA to see my full convos. That's what the apps are for.
BUT your suggestion was brilliant because I tried that and it shows received messages only (which isn't the issue).
So then I tried to say "show me my SENT messages" and surprisingly it did manage to show just the messages I'd sent BUT BIZARRELY IT MISSES OUT ANY MESSAGES SENT BY G.A.. !!????
So in summary it looks as though it sends messages fine but doesn't record it anywhere. When asked to tell me what it has sent it then seems to search the stock apps (that it doesn't communicate TO) and gives me that info only. So even GA doesn't know what it's sent ! Wtf??
(Hangouts doesn't seem to do SMS)
"The Assistant only uses Messenger as the outgoing source for SMS when Hangouts is the default. If you look in messenger you will see the text that you sent through the assistant. It is a bit defeatest from the standpoint of the Fi Hangouts integration and the team is aware."
this is from google forums and yes Hangouts show outgoing msgs
By messenger they mean what? Many apps seem to think they're called messenger.
As for hangouts it does nothing. Showing up only 4 convos and none of them are SMS convos. I've looked and looked and there is no option to integrate SMS into hangouts. I've given it all permissions too.
Are we on the same version of Mate 9 ? Am I missing something?
Open the Hangouts app .
At the top, tap Menu Menu.
Tap Settings and thenSMS and then SMS enabled.
Select the text messaging app you want as the default.
try this
I suspect we have different versions of hangouts. No such options in mine anywhere
``Show me my hangouts sms messages`` may help out a bit
i think also facebook messenger can help as it can read sms check it

nope my hangouts does nothing. doesnt support sms at all
fb messenger is evil, doesn't it drain masses of battery?
please change the message app to what you want to use and try again steps:
in your settings search for Default app settings then, change sms app, i think the default would be hangouts.

Thanks but despite having hangouts installed the only messaging app that comes up as an option is the stock Huawei message app. Hangouts isn't listed. There is also no setting anywhere within hangouts to use SMS. Our versions must be different. I have the latest version.
My bad, hangouts lost the integration long time ago :/
However did you but I want your to check the fb it it can detect the assistant out going messages, or else, if you didn't try Android Messages app please check it might help.

I thought the android messenger ap which is the one they want us to use now might work, but it sadly doesn't.
I'll trial it with facebook and let you know soon,
Thanks again for your efforts trying to help me out :good:
I'll try my best
Nope FB messenger doesn't record the outgoing text either. Huge flaw in Google assistant!!
I think they fixed it in latest update
