I have been using Nexus 5 for a year and half now. After upgrading to android 6.0.1 recently, I have been facing serious battery issues, such as:
1. Sudden shut down of the device, from various % of battery remaining. After trying to switch back on, the battery shows empty, or even 5-10% charge remaining.
2. If I charge it fully and then switch to safe mode, the phone works fine, the discharge rate is pretty stable and long-lasting. If I then try to switch back to normal mode from safe mode with a simple restart, the battery percentage again shows drastic change in between the two modes.
3. Sometimes when I keep it in safe mode, the battery percentage shows an increase, even if it's not charging.
* Yesterday I did a factory reset, yet these problems continue. I am confused about this being a battery problem, android bug or something else entirely.
I am a newbie in this forum, so please pardon me if I am missing some things here. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yesterday evening I charged my N5 to 100%, used it 5-10 minutes while in bed and turned it off; this morning I turned it on, used it for other 5 mins (the charge was 86%) and it shut down on its own: when I tried to switch it back on it appeared to be completely discharged.
This happened several times in the last weeks, alongside a way faster discharge of the battery.
Is there a way to check if this is related to some software or it a physical problem of the battery? And, in case, is it possible to change it?
Flash back to stock LP to see if the problem goes away. If the problem continues, it could be time for a new battery.
I've not been playing with roms and stuff for a while and I don't remember that, if I flash stock LP (I'm on stock Marshmallow now, if that matters) will I have everything on my phone wiped?

You could try flashing everything except the userdata.img file. After flashing the other partitions, erase cache before booting the LP ROM for the first time.
I always recommend taking a back up of your data before flashing anything to the phone as there is always the possibility that something goes wrong.
What about calibrating your battery?

I tried to install an app to calibrate the battery but I'd need to root my phone to make it work (as now it's not rooted), and if I remember correctly the root process would wipe my phone (and as right now I don't have much time for that I'd rather try first everything I can without wiping).

Alright, though I'm afraid it might come down to that..
But lemme know anyway if you managed to fix your battery issue without having to calibrate the battery. I had a similar problem but it hasn't gone away yet even after calibrations. Maybe a new battery is in order.

This issue first emerged when I was on stock GB after a minor OTA update which added the power saver toggle to the quick settings menu..The problem is that it takes about 4-5 hours to fully charge the phone, and if I rebooted in the middle of charging when it's about 70% or 80%, it suddenly shows that the phone is fully charged, and the indicator becomes green! But afterwards the battery drains as quickly!
Now I have S-Off and using ARHD 6.6.3 ROM, but it seems the problem persists ..I wiped battery stats as soon as I flashed the ROM as well..Although it's not a problem I cannot live with, it's annoying enough when it happens.
Can someone please help me? And suggest me what to do?

its common thing...the battery calibration is not proper that's all...
also you need to wipe stats once you charge your phone to 100%
then battery will try to calibrate ...and after 3-4 full complete cycles (100-0 and 0-100)
the battery will settle..
the battery drain will be there ...whenever you flash a rom or flash a kernel....battery only settles atleast after 2 full cycles
EDIT: also download currentwidget from market..as the name says its a widget..so you will see it in widgets once you installed it...this will give you more proper reading of battery...when you plug your phone to charge...and when current widget reads 0mah then your battery is charged completely...(it might take a long time to read 0mah...but charge it until you see 0mah)..then wipe the battery stats...so after this battery calibration will be proper
Also the sudden jump of battery percentage is due to improper battery calibration
so dont worry you got no problem

I read somewhere that you are not supposed to let the phone go to zero because it could cause your phone to not power back on anymore..is this fact. I couldn't find where I read it to back and read again. Mine has been doing some weird things as well...the led turns green before it is 100% and it goes from 100% and drops to like 89% out of no where.

when i meant 100%-0% means until your phone turns off due to less power..it might not(or won't be) be 0% then
as i told you that kind of jumps are common ...in my case it went to 60% to 100% when i rebooted ...also the dropping used to be in large scale too

Hey guys, i've seen some other threads about batteries being stuck at 100% but they were generally with rooted devices so i figured i'd make one here.
The Problem
My infinity will charge fine, usually 1% per minute and when discharging going from 100% to 35% in about 5 hours screen on time, mainly using web apps, no real gaming, maybe dead trigger for 20 mins per charge. However when i take my tab off the charger it will stay at 100% for over 45 mins, and most recently over 1h 20m, causing the battery reading to be way off. Today it randomly shut down claiming i had 20% left.
Does anyone have any ideas? Like i said device is non-rooted and i dont have much interest in rooting it. Problem started just before we got the Jelly Bean update, and i got the tab in mid august, so it was working fine for a couple months.
The next logical step would be to factory reset and contact asus if that doesn't solve anything. I was hoping to avoid that if you guys had any tips or tricks.

I suggest you make a backup then do a a factory reset (twice). After that check to make sure this issue is gone, before re install any apps. If this doesn't resolved the issue, you need to reflash the full Asus firmware. This eliminated your software issue, and the last 1% chance is your hardware.(but very rare).

I've done as you suggested. Including factory reseting the tablet twice.
I've had the tablet off the charger for 14 hours and 28 minutes. And it's still showing 100%...
Worth noting: It was fully charged with the dock this morning. I've taken the tablet off the dock and used it for the day and it's still 100%
Anyone else got any other suggestions?
Same problem here, started two days ago, the transformer shuts down at ˜33-35%. Installed battery monitor app and it reports ˜500mAh still availble just prior to the shutting down. After it shuts down it's dead until I plugg it the power chord, it charges to 100% but then the same story again, shutting down at 33-35% remaining battery left. I've tried the battery calibration app which deletes the batterystats.bin file but that didn't do anything. Also tried three factory resets without any success... I'm on stock ROM but rooted.
Any ideas to what to try now? Or should I wait for the next firmware upgrade and see if the reflashing of the firmware will resolve this?
How do I reflash the installed firmware version, want to try that next...

Everything in power saver settings is left default, 15%. But the transformer never reaches that level..
Oh, and I also have the same behaivor as the orginator of this thread, the battery shows 100% for good while after a full charge until it stops dropping, forgot to mention that. My tablet is four month old and this just started... Unfortunaltey is feels like a HW issue with the battery reporting the wrong remaining charge to the OS... But I will wait for a new firmware to see if a reflash resets the battery configuration somehow.

Try to poweroff your device and let it stay down for 1/2 hrs, then power it back on see if that resolved your issue.
You need to recalibrate the battery.

This is what I did. except I left it plugged in over night, then unplugged it, turned it on and it is back to normal.

I tried this to no avail. Worth noting the device was off for about 5 hours when the battery went flat. I've also tried turning it off and charging it.
I have a TF700 on a TF300 dock, and I have found that if I unplug the tablet from the dock, while the dock is plugged into the wall, it stays at that battery level until I plug it back into the keyboard. Deleting batterystats.bin, turning it off, waiting long enough for it to get to 8.4V, and then doing a cold boot seems to fix it.
HW/SW specifics at bottom (if it helps)
Following the instructions provided this great site I added a custom ROM last year and for 6-8 months everything worked perfectly.
I was getting two days charge out of my battery which was is a 200% improvement. I'm not on my phone all the time.
Lately however, my phone has only been charging to 90%, and now 82% and the batt. drains before the day ends.
Using the same instructions here, I restored the phone using CWM with the files listed below (which are the same files I used originally) to restore my phone.
Everything seems to be working fine but I found a bunch of old files and app links to programs I had before so obviously I didn't do a full wipe which is what I was intending to do.
Can I restore my phone by going into CWM > Wipe data/factory reset or do I have to use ODIN to go back to factory firmware (I just downloaded I727RUXLF3_I727RRWCLF3_RWC.zip) to reset then go through the steps all over again.
Pardon the lack of terminology as I have only done this twice so I'm still new to this.
I just don't know what I need to do to get it back to stock and by stock I mean the ROM below.

If you want to go back to like New condition I would do the odin process. You'll have to extract the .tar.md5 file out of the zip file you downloaded, the stock rom not the sky files. User 7-zip to extract. Put the extracted file in PDA in odin. Only have the auto reboot and f.reset checked in odin.
You'll then have to odin your recovery back on.

Condition your battery for it to show correctly. Drain battery completely till it won't even turn on. Then plug it in and charge completely with it off. Once done boot phone into recovery cwm. Wipe battery stats. Then reboot.
Make sure battery is not hot to ensure a good charge after draining battery.

First off its actually hard on a battery fully discharge it. Second wiping battery stats does absolutely nothing for the battery or the android system so this tells me you have no clue what you're doing.

Weird battery problem - charging
Ok, here's a weird one, you've probably seen before but it's new to me.
I wiped my phone back to factory stock using Vin's instructions. Followed them to a T and had no problems.
Kies then wanted to update my software (now at 4.1.2) which I let happen because I was just going to wipe it again anyways.
My battery still won't charge past 80%. When turned off, it shows 100% but the second I turn it on it immediately drops to 80%.
The battery life seems to be OK so that's not a problem.
Last night I swapped batteries with my wife's phone (factory stock SGH-T989D).
Here is where it gets weird (for me).
Her phone with my batt. charged to 100% and stays at 100% when turned on.
My phone with her batt. only charges to 80%. Again, when turned off it shows 100%.
So the battery is ruled out as being faulty I would think.
My phone has been factory wiped.... or has it? Did I screw up the wipe and leave some remnant behind?
Is there something I can install that will tell me exactly what is going on?
Suggestions?
I apologize if this type of question has been asked a thousand times but if the battery calibration is a 'myth' then I don't even know what to look for anymore.

Try taking the battery out and leaving it out for 5 minutes. While it's out press and hold power for twenty or thirty seconds. That will discharge any residual juice in the phone. Pop the battery back in and power on.

I tried that several different times over the weekend. I got it up to 84% from 80% but now it shows 100% charged within a few seconds after plugging in the phone while it is turned on. When I pull the cable, it goes back down to 84%.
I'm thinking of wiping it again but I'm not sure that is going to resolve the problem. Don't know what else to do/try.

Don't ever do this. Draining your battery below 15-20% is actually bad for it, as the heat generated by simply charging it while idle does damage. It's also been shown that the lower the depth of discharge, the more cycles your battery will have in it.
Also, Android devs who work for the big G have said that battery stats are essentially meaningless in this generation of phones. If you do calibrate your phone, don't run the battery all the way down. Get the 100% baseline, then use it as normal.
Download the battery calibration app. I believe Skyrockets max out at 4330 mV, but I could be thinking of the Note II. If the battery calibration app shows that you're in that neighborhood, who cares if the meter says 100% or not? You're getting a full charge.

I did swap out the batteries as per the post above. I was thinking of charging the wife's batt. to 100% and putting it in my phone. Then do the pull the batt. for five minute trick. At this point it's all about the hail mary.

Update: HAHA! Just gets better and better. Downloaded two battery calibration apps. Both say to charge to 100% before operating... FML.
I use Battery Calibration. It shows the mV along with the charge level. If you're charging to 4100 mV+ when it freezes at 81%, you're doing ok. If you're only charging to 3000-some mV, your battery's borked.

Been testing a few things. I charged my battery to 83% (full) and put it in my wife's phone. It registers as 100% so it's not the battery.
Yeah, I could live with it but it bugs me as I'm sure it would bug you too!
The problem I'm running into is when I put the battery back in it goes to 83%.
I installed two battery calibration tools. Both called 'Battery Calibration' One says it can't operate until the battery is charged to 100% so I'm screwed there.
The other one says my phone needs to be rooted. I thought I had already taken care of this but I went through Vincom's steps again to root (just to be sure) and now I routinely get a "E-signature verification failed"
The CWM (ver 6) doesn't give me the option to apply from external card, nor does it have an advanced section. I think I am going to wipe the phone again and use the old CWM.
===UPDATE===
I ended up wiping my phone again, going back to CWM 5 and SKYICS 4.2. Wiped everything and voila. Battery is reading 100% again.

Isn't it a great feeling when a potential hardware (e.g., $$$) issue turns out to be a simple software fix?
All of a sudden my phone started to turn off when it read that there was still battery life left on device. But it will not boot up until I plug it into a charger. Once I do, there are times it reads 100% charge, random %, or completely dead. Since the first time there hasn't been a time it has properly drain the battery with a proper shut down. I have done numerous factory resets and complete wipe/fresh ROM flash. Currently I am on CM snapshot M6. If anyone could please me that would be great. It is starting to become pain in my side.

Today, I have found some time and reinstalled the phone's OS (I am using Ressurection Remix - latest build). Nothing changed.
Here's the problem, with some concepts as examples:
I charge the battery until it gets to 100%. I use the phone for example till it gets to 60% (the drain is NOT quick. It needs some time till I get to that point). Then, if I restart the phone two (2) times, I get again 95-99% of battery. Then again, I use the phone till it gets to, for example, 40%. I twice reboot it again. ~90±%! All generic batteries have these issues.So far,there's no perfect replacement to be found for battery.Visit Battery Thread in General section for more information.
try to flash CM 13.1.2 from BRT (Bacon root toolkit). it should work..
