So here's the deal, my brother brought back a brand new unlocked Sony Z1 from USA. He got it on Amazon for US$280. Thing is, the very first time I reseted it because it was having lots of problems, on the screen a pop up said "this device is a prototype..." And something else. Does that mean he got ripped off? Since there's also no warranty.

The term "Prototype Mode" does come up a few times with this device, I just cannot find much on it.
I would go and create a post here:

Lately my phone can't be used when I'm not plugged into charger or power bank. Is it because of the hardware or software? I've tried sending it to the shop but they say it works fine. Now I'm confused. Anyone can help me ?

Generally I would say, may be software ... may be hardware issue.
But I would try to claim warranty again ... the shop/service center you tried seems to be unable to help.

a friend of mine is buying a mobile phone tomorrow, and i''ve adviced him huawei ascend p7 and sony xperia z1 compact (his choices are quite limited and these are the best options).

I have accidentally thrown my Xperia Z3 to the floor, which caused to screen first to behave funny, then to go dark. Now it does not respond any more.
However, I can access the internal storage through my computer, so I know the phone works in principle. So I wonder what would be the best possibility to run hardware checks on that device in order to get more specific information about the display situation and such. Because if I know for sure that a new display might fully fix the thing, I might just try that.
is there any specific software/tool out there that you would recommend?
