unlocked bootloader for twrp?

Hi guys,
first of all, thank you all for your amazing work! Its great to have such nice guys working on android.
I saw a thead in the "rom" section but since im new in the forum i cant ask in the thread there :/
Do i need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash twrp for full root?
What about the OTA updates? I guess i cant updates after i unlocked the bootloader?
I read about the funkyhuwei method but it seems to be quite costly. One time or maybe even per month ok but 1 credit for 10$?? Wow..

Yes. You need unlock bootloader to do other things like flashing twrp.
And you can receive ota updates.

Hi, I unlocked my bootloader, but every time I boot I see these messages that my phone has been unlocked and can't be trusted. I understand this is normal, but is there any way to NOT see this warning?
Also, does this affect any encryption, AndroidPay, fingerprint phone lock, security setting,.... basically, what does that mean "phone cannot be trusted"?

It can't be removed without locking bootloader again.
Not until someone figures out how to flash TWRP without unlocking bootloader, OR flash official firmware but keep recovery untouched.
And it doesn't affect them (afaik anyway, it works great with Magisk and I don't think it hides unlocked bootloader).

Will anyone see that the bootloader is relocked?

I got my new Honor 8 and as with my previous OnePlus One I just need root.
It's not that complicated to find descriptions how to unlock the bootloader (and loose the warranty), relock it and even get the "locked" status again without (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70177996&postcount=7) and with DC Unlocker (https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-lock-bootloader-from-relocked-to-locked) in case I understood everything right.
But the important qustion of course is if one (for example Huawei) can see that its relocked. So first, what does it say if you get the status over the command prompt? And even if it's "locked" there is there any other way you can see?
I don't expect a warranted answer but maybe someone who is firm with android coding or what ever can at least say what he thinks?

If you relock it with a fastboot command then yeah. But if you use a rollback package to return to emui 4.1, everything gets wiped in a way that makes the bootloader status "locked"

Could please someone at least check the first question with his unlocked phone?

That means after unlocking bootloader and relock bootloader with these steps, i have back my warranty?

As far as i know yeah, unless there is some secret way for them to know it. If you unlock the bootloader with a code and then lock it again it will show the bootloader status as "relocked" in fastboot mode, indicating that the device was tampered with in the past. But the "locked" status you get in the rollback process is the same as on a phone that was never modified. I found this "trick" accidentally when restoring a bricked phone using the rollback package and think it's pretty handy.

Not sure if u'll read this. When I was stuck in the same issue somewhere around July 2017 I was devastated and thought if I were to relock my bootloader how to do so without it saying relocked (If you do it by fastboot it will 100% say so). I tried the rollback method on seeing this and u sure r right. It says LOCKED and looks as though my phone was never tampered with ?.

Any reason not to unlock the bootloader?

Just received my Solar Red U11. Is there any reason not to unlock the bootloader right away?
I'm not planing on rooting it or installing any custom ROMs anytime soon, but I'm also not 100% sure I'm gonna be keeping the phone (few things I need to see if I can get used to).
Should I just unlock it now so I don't have to (potentially) wipe my device at a later date?

if you decide to unlock at a later date you can back up your stuff to your computer unlock then put it back.all the other stuff is your choice, me, mine is unlocked out of the box.
it only wipes your internal, not the ext_sdcard

At some point, one of the future updates could prevent you from unlocking it. That would eliminate the
ability to modify your phone's software. If you'll never do that, probably doesn't matter if unlockable.
The only downside is the orange reminder splash screen that is displayed on boot-up.

Aldo, how do you back up data & /or app settings of 3d party apps fm a device w/locked Bootloader & no root?
Also, what & how much boot delay is there if you unlock bootloader - I saw someone post a pic that shows the screen in text mode & a warning abt startup not beginning for 5 seconds.
Also, please clarify, HTC gave warnings about losing the Fingerprint capability if you unlock the bootloader; I just want root,so I can run Titanium B/U & some root-needed apps- put really like the Fingerprint feature- was that an old warning? The posted HTC warning says you can'telock the bootloader- but I just saw someone talk abt re-locking their bootloader bc they want to sell the device as clean.

Boot loader won't effect your fingerprint scanner....never heard of had that.

The warning about losing fingerprint scanner functionality on HTCDev refers to the One Max (2013), and only to that device AFAIK.

Negative effects of unlocked bootloader
Has anybody found HTC U11 losing OEM applications, sound and camera quality or other pre installed applications after unlocking the bootloader? Also please tell me whether the unlocking procedure is same for Android oreo udate.

Go to developer options ( on setting) and allow unlocked bootloader ,,,ok finish

Unlocking the bootloader has no adverse effects. You can still update ota. If the bootloader is ever unlocked there is no reason to relock it unless you are returning the phone to the store.

Unlocked Verizon Pixel XL 128GB Bootloader. Is it same as google ver. at that point?

I've been looking for a google purchased Pixel XL 128GB locally for a little while now and I've come across a verizon version that was unlocked when they were first released and is now updated to the latest OS.
Since the bootloader is unlocked is there any difference now between the verizon version and the google purchased version? Any chance to revert back on updated or once the bootloader is loaded it is good to go and nothing to worry about from that point forward?

Nothing to worry about going forward except on thing. If YOU relock it you won't be able to unlock it again. They won't relock it.

It requires a manual command in fastboot. Doubt you'll do that accidently.

you definitely dont need a failsafe to avoid relocking it as its really not something you can do accidentally. since you are getting an unlocked version i also assume you will be loading custom firmware in which case it is common sense not to relock it or you will literally brick the phone anyways

That switch has been grayed out after the Verizon unlock, and it reads "Bootloader is already unlocked", so as far as I know it's not possible to toggle.

How to root S7 Model G930VL? (Stright Talk)

Hey folks,
I am new to the rooting scene and was hoping someone could give me some guidance on how to properly root my S7 model G930VL. I've read people say that the bootloader cannot be unlocked while others said it can by simply turning on OEM unlock? Do I really have to flash another firmware in order to root and if so, how would I do that?

all the VLs ive seen use safestrap (i have a G900VL and its the same issue). Ive tried flashing so many different versions of S5 firmware that its becoming hopeless. I know youre talking about a S7 and im talking about a S5, but the issue should be at the very least similar. If the bootloader is locked and isnt unlockable, then all youre left with is safestrap

Thanks for the reply back. I actually just ordered a SM-G930F international variant which I was under the impression is much, much easier to root, right? The bootloader is automatically unlocked by turning on OEM in dev settings?

yep and yep. you might have to contend with the 168 hour thing, but other than that it should be a cakewalk. The 168 hour thing is where the bootloader toggle wont switch unless you let it sit powered on for 168 hours. I.E., just dont reboot it for 7 days then toggle the unlock
