I need help! SM-S820L "Movinand checksum confirmation fail" - General Questions and Answers

I was updating maps and the screen turned off and wouldn't come back on. I figured no big deal, its done this before, phone locks up but if I leave it alone for a couple minutes it'll become responsive again. It didn't work this time.
After I removed and replaced the battery, I was able to turn the phone on and the screen was on but nothing there, no usual tracfone logo or Samsung intro, nothing, finally after a minute I get an error message in red letters “MMC: mmc_read fail, Movinand checksum confirmation fail”.
If that isn't enough, when I try to charge my phone, instead of the normal black background with green charging particles and battery, it shows the same red letter error “MMC: mmc_read fail, Movinand checksum confirmation fail” and I have no idea if it's charging or not, but I suspect it's not because the phone feels cold, not even luke warm after leaving it plugged in for a couple minutes.
This is the first time I've ever had an android phone give me this error message and not boot like normal. I've tried all the different ways of booting while holding buttons down. It'll let me boot into download mode but not recovery mode, I've only learned this from reading the forums, but this is the extent of my android knowledge.
I have important pictures, texts, memos, Internet bookmarks, contacts that I cannot afford to lose or wipe or delete.
Can someone please tell me:
1. Am I going to be able to fix my phone to the way it was before the error, can I recover things to a computer, is it too late, phone has to be wiped factory reset? AND
2. If it can be fixed, what are the proper steps to get it back to the way it was or at least where I can extract what's important?
Keep in mind I have ZERO experience with Odin flashing adb twrp cyogen roms, it's all new to me.
As a side note, I would love to root my phone and be given instructions describing what's the best Odin rom cwm adb twrp, but that's secondary, I'm just mentioning that in case it can be thrown into the steps I have to take to fix my primary concern, which is to get my phone back to the way it was before this boot error happened.

who's pooch do you have to screw to get an answer on here?
Did you try posting your question in the appropriate thread/forum? Maybe you don't have to make any Intercourse with anyone's beloved chiweenie to receive a response to your query.

Yes I think I did anyways

I sent a pm to moderator but I don't think they even got my message yet, so then I tried to post a question in the Samsung Galaxy core prime thread but it said something (correct me if Im wrong) to the affect of I'm a noob and I smell like sweet sweet chiweenie love and I can't read good so I have to post my question in the general or q & a thread, which I did. Now I guess I just wait and hope for the best. Thanks for trying to help though, oooo sorry gotta cut this response short, the neighbors chiweenie is giving me that look

No joe2k01, I don't even know how to use those kinds of tools, my phone is stock, I need to get it back to the way it was before the error occurred.

I don't want to post anymore funny dialogue in what seems to be a futile attempt at gathering attention to this thread
I SERIOUSLY need help and I can't afford to be banned from these forums. . .
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP !!

disregard my previous message it was an error.
So I searched a bit on internet and I founded a method for restore your phone, but the method erase all the data in the phone .
For restore your phone fist of all you need to know your product number and your imei. For read your imei unplug the battery. Now go on PC and install kies (search on google kies download an open the samsung site), after that you need to turn on your device in download mode, on the left top of the screen you can read the product number. Connect your phone to the PC and launch kies , if it says that your device isn't compatible ignore the message and press ok, then go to tools<Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation, and type your product number and your imei, now just follow the wizard.
If I helped you leave a thanks :good:

Hey jo,
I just read your suggestion. I Googled kies to see if it is compatible with my phone, it looks like my phone should work but is there a way to transfer everything to my pc first?

Yes Kies is a toolbox developed by Samsung so I know that there is the option for the backup, but I don't know if the backup tool work with your error

UPDATE: jo's help may or may not have worked but after spending countless days trying to figure this out, I now see the immediate problem: No matter which computer/USB port/USB cable I use, Windows never sees the phone, doesn't make a beep (tuh noon sound) when I plug it in, nothing. I had responded to jo saying "Kies never sees it even with the driver from Samsung installed". Well, I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's safe to assume no program is going to see the phone if the computer doesn't even see it. Here is the URL for my new thread, please visit it and leave a reply if you think you can help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/windows-phone-matter-computer-usb-cable-t3305393

No help in this thread. I don't think I can delete/erase the thread so I'm deleting my own unanswered replies.

Dear Helpers
Please someone help me!
I was upgrading my phone and suddenly it stopped at 69%.
After that it asked me it if I want to make emergency upgrade, I tried it but unfortunately it didn’t work.
Now my phone is not starting at all, it just gives the logo of samsung and the model type. I tried to make a hard reset by click the buttons but it didn’t work.
It seems that the software is removed and no more software in the phone.

Hello again;
Thanks for the fast responds but ...
I need a Professional Answer to a Beginner user.
I want to know how to fix my phone step by step from a to z
for example which applications i need to install on my computer to fix my phone etc.
anyone has patience to explain to me briefly?
well, at first you need odin
google odin android or sth like that and google odin pit file 512.
go to sammobile and look for the firmware you want to have (you need to register on sammobile.com to do this)
after that, make sure you have samsung kies installed, but NOT running (check via taskmanager-processes, if you see something with 'kies' in it, close that).
run odin
use pit file s1_odin_20100512.pit in pit tab
use CODE file in PDA tab
use MODEM file in PHONE tab
use GT-I9000-CSC... file in CSC tab
make sure the repartition box, auto reboot box, f.reset time box are checked (dump, phone efs clear, phone bootloader update NOT)
set your phone to download mode (hold volume down, home button an on/off button at the same time until the android with a shovel appears)
plug your phone via usb in to your computer, in odin should appear a yellow sign at ID:COM
hit start in odin
wait til its done
(i hope this works out, thats what i did, when i bricked my phone once)
i dont take responsibilty for damages on your phone!
you do this at your own risk!
ps: sorry for my bad english..

[Completed] Nexus 7 Stuck In APX Mode After Trying To Flash KitKat Stock ROM

Hello everyone,
My first time in this site and been reading a lot of posts. I wonder if anyone can help me out with this problem.
I was dusting off my old nexus 7 in order to use for college. The current lollipop versions brought the speed of the device way down. I been reading that plenty of people have the same problem with the new version. I went searching for a way to revert back to kitkat so my tablet can be usable again. Anyways after reading and watching videos I found a good one. I would post it but since I am new tot the forums it restricts me. I followed it step my step even downloaded the correct nexus 2012 wifi kitkat version but when I was flashing the device on the command prompt it kept saying telapia folder was not found. I made sure the file was placed correctly but was still giving me the error. Then I made the mistake of unplugging the usb cable then the tablet shut down. Now the screen won't turn on and under device manager it shows the device as an "APX." I know the physical hardware isn't damaged because I can here the ding noise when I plug the tablet to the computer. Please if anyone has a step to step guide to recover the device that would be awesome. Thank you.
Hi,
Unfortunately, it does not look good for your device. You can read a similar situation here, and try what's recommended...

Other than that, you may not have any luck here.
But I hope you figure it out somehow! :good:

R7 PlusM doesn't boot properly anymore

Hi there, I have tried to find a solution today for this issue but I can't find anything useful anywhere .
Last night I received another update via OTA 151115 and proceed to install it as the earlier ones didn't work. Surprisingly this one worked and after restart my phone didn't had any trace of google apps on it, try to install google play, framework and so but the phone says it's not compatible with google (Big time). Then I went to the bootloader to perform a wipe/erase everything and here's when the problem began, it was stuck in the screen that says optimising applications (the one before starting the setup) and after half an hour unattended the phone restart itself one after another, like in a loop.... From this point on, I haven't been able to power on the device anymore.
It was bought through a third party seller from China, already contacted them and waiting for an answer...
Any clue about what can I do to use my phone again?
Update: I can see the oppo logo after pressing volume up plus power buttons for around 15 seconds but it shows for less than a second the screen it appears when it's updating the software and then it switches itself off... Is this a sign of possible recovery in some way?
just downloaded the last 151115 official update from the oppo community forum but I've got a problem. I can not enter the fasboot or recovery mode because the phone is like trying to install something and it constantly switches itself off... The day this happened, I had two files in my root directory, one was the few update and the other was a full Google thing in the same format than the fw file, I'm afraid I selected the wrong one and that's why the phone went crazy. I guess if there's some way to cancel that attempt to update the wrong file or reset that thing in some way, I'd be able to start over but I can't find anything grgrgr
By the way, the last ota update allowed google maps to work flawlessly and also Instagram, two of my biggest concerns with the phone
I'm even trying to contact oppo service to send the thing and sort it out that way xx
Cheers
Pedro
I've just contacted Oppo Customer Service in Europe to see if they have any solution for my problem as I can't make this thing to start and the battery also doesn't seems to be charging though... No response for the moment, just an automated one confirming the reception of my enquiry
Should I start thinking about my lovely new phone as my new paper weight?

No, no you have a chance to save your phone. If you have to R7 plus M Oppo Chinese version, I can help you. I also had this problem, but he was able to solve it. My Skype: ed_mobstyle.
Hi mate, thanks for the answers. Yes it is the China mobile version "M" I don't have Skype I'm afraid grgrgr

I was able to fix this problem fairly easily.
First I entered recovery (press Power + Volume Down when the phone is booting up)
Then from the device menu I installed a ROM, you want to download the version you last used. (MAKE SURE IT IS FOR THE OPPO R7 PLUS M)
After installing the stock rom, it will go into installation and have you set up your phone.
After you installed the ROM, download OPPO tools v 1.6.5
Open Oppo Tools and root your phone this will take a few minutes.
After you have rooted your device open Oppo Tools again and select Unlock Google Mobile Services (this too me two weeks to figure out).
Let the phone restart, after it is finished, you should have basic google functionalities (Playstore and Frameworks).
Now since you are rooted, it means that your phone will not download any further OTAs and you will have to install them as ROMs, you can do so by repeating the above process, but I'm not sure of the functionality of Oppo Tools past the most current version.
I cant post links to provide you to where the ROM files and Oppo Tools are at this moment
The roms will be located on the "[ROM][STOCK] Official R7 Plus Roms | R7Plus, R7PlusF, R7PlusM [15 Sep 2015]" of Oppo Fourms
The Oppo Tools will be located when you google "OPPO Tools apk" on your computer and it will take you to the thai version of Oppo Fourms follow the link there to download the apk
Hi mate, thanks for your answer but my problems is that I can't enter the recovery mode cause the phone try to install something and then it switches itself off
I've tried to connect the phone to my laptops and sometimes they recognised it as Qhsub something and I can't find anywhere this driver. Then all the softwares I've got ask me for a scatter file which I don't have....
Also trying to contact support from the brand. For now just send them my data and the phone's imei and now waiting for the magic response... They are excessively slow in their answers!
Thanks so much anyway
Cheers

Hi mate, my problem is that my computer detects the phone as qhsusb_bulk and I've tried every single file I found with that name and nothing changes, well, the device name from unknown to com1, com2... up to com13 I have seen.... Other thing is that I can't enter the fastboot mode or recovery mode neither. I wish I had an oppo service near home but I live in Uk, now I'm trying to get service from oppostyle and waiting for an answer. To be honest with you, I'm really annoyed with all this, never had a problem with bricked androids or iphones until I met this "guy" lol

I'm really sorry dude I hope I can help you as I did for mine it was quit simple with the same driver problems,so try to uninstall all drivers you have for oppo and install the one I shared with you taken from my ohone directly that the only way you can give any commands to your phone to switch to fastboot mode even if the problem still present
when I try to install the driver on my win10 laptop it says this...
Using an old win7 laptop I managed to install the bloody Qhsub driver and now the phone appears in the com ports under the name Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM4) does this means the phone really doesn't exist?
Update to this thread, I can't do anything until I find a proper driver for the phone which actually is recognised by my laptop as Qhsub_bulk and I can't bloody find this anywhere at least for making 6795 processors or specifically for this model...
Any clue?

I attempted to install a theme package via RomTool and the tablet became stuck on the bootlogo. Tried to go to boot recovery. This is a known issue of this thing so best stay away from it from now on .
Now can you factory reset your phone ?
BTW this device has mediatek ,right?
I believe that I do. I wasn't able boot to the recovery that i normally had in the past. Instead it went to a boot recovery I had not seen on this tablet before. The only only choice to a possible recovery was to clear the eMMC. I did that. and still am hung up on the boot logo of android.

Dang it ,factory reset usually works
Well as a last resort I would flash my stock firmware but this pretty much means you'll lose your data Unless you haven't backed it up.
BTW can you flash your previous recovery and try to access it again .
Also after emmc wipe you gave it enough time at the bootlogo (10-15 min so it can set things up again),right?
I gave it over 2 hours to set itself up.
I admit I am quite challenged when it comes to Android. I hanen't a clue as to flashing the device. I did have enough common sense to do a back-up to external sd-card prior to attempting the theme update. I downloaded and installed the latest XDA tools onto my PC, but I can't make sense of how to use it.
Any help would be most welcomed. Thank you so far though.

Your phone is mediatek .
Things you'll need are sp flash tool PC ,stock firmware of phone (extracted)
1)download the flash tool and open it
2)select scatter loading ,browse through the extracted stock file and select scatter.txt.
3)now click the download
4)power off your phone and plug it PC through USB
5)wait for success notification
Wait a minute have you tried restoring the backup you made .
---------- Post added at 05:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:10 PM ----------
So i looked up some links for your stock firmware and there isn't many .is your phone under warrenty then best try to take it to store.
Please forgive my ignorance. Will please define "stock"?
As in a standard 4.2.2 OS, or an original build for this tablet Verizon built? I bought the tablet on, Amazon and have no carrier.
Also, with tablet stuck In boot.... when I plug it in via usb, my PC reognises that it is my tablet, yet shows no evidence other than the device manager. Does the application you mention have ability to access my device in it's current state?
How would I go about restoring the back up?

Yes the tool works if your PC can recognise your device. But the stock (pretty much the standard os you had when it was bought) is pretty much difficult to get

Can you tell me the extension type (eg .zip .jpeg) of the backup you made .its in your SD card right .so try to tell me the extension type by getting SD card in PC via memory card reader or putting it in another phone

I hope its an .md5 file ,its late night here I'll get back to you in the morning .due to non availability of stock firmware(good if you can find it) your backup(if its .md5) is functional way of getting your phone back . you also need mtkdroid tools for this .
The file extension is .backup. I am looking for a decompiler. Then I convert to .md5. We shall see.

Okay . if you get the .md5 file ,there's an option to to prepare blocks for sp flash tool in mtkdroid tools. Then choose the .md5 file and wait for mtkdroid tools to finish.
Now in sp flash tool chooses scatter loading and choose the scatter text prepared by droid tools
Uncheck cache, userdata and most importantly preloader.
Click download in sp tool and now plug your completely powered of phone to PC via USB .wait for success notification.
Ok. I broke down and bought another QMV7A off of Amazon. Screen is in "MEH" condition, big deal. Bottom line.... I have a Samsung Galaxy Light that I am willing to brick. I need help with getting whatever is needed from the incoming QMV7A, so that I may breathe life into boot-trapped other Ellipsis.
I would like to use Samsung as guineapig in my hopefully learning something. I was successful in in getting the tablet back to the recovery menu I am use to using RomTool (must thank that developer....must thank that developer), and was also able to restore 'USER' settings. My backup was NOT OF OS. Huh....
With my settings I did get my dancing Android boot back instead of Verizon's. Now it is stuck there. NIIIIIICE !!
After reading and reading, I still can't figure out how to get a scatter text, or for that matter, what the help is it? I digress....
I need to learn on the Samsung what to do to my QMV7A.
Please assist in the attempted surgery on my Galaxy so that I may bring back my missing toy...errrr...tool...yeah...
In advance, thanks for all the assistance so far by Qwerty. And a hopeful blessing to any other that may teach me what NOT to do.

[Completed] Will someone actually help with this

Okay so, My friend has a samsung galaxy s5 neo and he gave it to his daughter who is quite young. She set up her own gmail etc on it and he later had to factory reset the phone.
Upon starting it up, he obviously ran into the "please log in with the origional gmail account to verify identity." the only problem is his child cant remember the details at all.
So, he has handed his phone to me to fix as i have a bit of experience with this sort of stuff however I have a couple of problems.
First and foremost usb debugging and oem unlock allowed are not ticked whatsoever and because i cant access the phone i cant get them on. I'm pretty stumped on what to do now, i've tried several things
like flashing different stock roms on via odin etc...
i've tried getting different apks to open when i put in he usb, i have tried to disconnect my internet whenever the "just a sec" part comes up.
The only thing i can think of now would be to get a custom recovery on and flash a custom rom. But because i don't have the oem thing and debugging on odin wont flash twrp because i get the frp lock issue.
