After updating to MM, many a times i get a pop up error saying "Unable to write to external storage", any idea why?
Im using my sd card as a portable one and its working pretty fine.
Every time i make a phone call this error pops up, and at other instances as well.

With every single ICS rom I keep getting " Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped after I finish the setup and go to home screen. I am also getting told my sd card is damaged when I don't even have one o.o, when I go to emmc through astro file manager where my internal storage is its blank when cwm recognizes it. when ever i plug in my usb it says "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." extremely annoying as I dont have a sd card, I cannot use my camera because I have nothing to save to apparently, my music doesn't show up because I apparently dont have a sd card, really annoying. any fixes?
Go back to cm7 and see if you still have the problem...

As the title says, something seems to be up with my SD card. I figured I'd nose around here before going out to pick up a card reader so I can mess with the darn thing on my computer.
Anyway, before anything else, I'm going to say that I've never had any issues with writing to my SD card since I picked up the Z3--neither on Kitkat nor on Lollipop. I don't even remember having to use the platform.xml fix.
Just today, however, I suddenly got an error when trying to copy some files to my external SD. I was more than a little surprised since, just a few days ago, I was moving files back and forth between the card and the internal memory without any problems. I tried backing something up in Titanium next, and got the infamous insufficient storage space error. I found it really weird but, since it wasn't anything new to me, I tried applying the fix, which didn't solve the issues. I also tried the Play Store app and FolderMount. FolderMount seemed to work so I uninstalled it (which you should be able to do, right?) and restarted my phone, to make sure whatever fixed things stuck. Aaand I ended up right back where I started.
Next, I thought of unmounting and remounting the card in Settings. What I saw there, though, was that the system wasn't detecting the card as mounted at all. I tried using the mount option but all I got was "Preparing SD card... " and nothing after that. Despite that, I could see and access/use everything on the SD card through ES and other apps. I pulled the card out and stuck it back in, and it finally started showing as mounted in Settings, but then everything else (ES and other apps) was showing that there was no SD card. Restarting the phone after that resulted in the original problem.
I've had a number of cards die on me in the past and, so far, I'm not getting any of the symptoms of that yet. If the card is indeed on its deathbed, I wouldn't be surprised either, as it is several years old. If I can, though, I would still rather forego the expense and trouble of getting a new card, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of getting this sorted out.
Thank you!
Dying SD card, SanDisk UHS is so well known to start dying fast...I guess others that use similar components too...
I've been having some problems with the SD card also, and I suspect XZDualrecovery to do some weird stuff to the SD card..
I've been having problems with the SD card being 'damaged' according to the phone. However, if I take it out, and put it back in, it works like a charm again, until i reboot.
This error seems to coincide with XZDualrecovery, seeing that XZDR doesn't work anymore right before the 'damaged' messages.
When reinstalling XZDR, the error doesn't appear after reboot, and the thing is fine again for some time.
I really don't get why this happens though...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, and I often transfer music from my Mac to my S7. The Android File Transfer usually works when I connect my phone via USB cable in order to get to my SD card to transfer music on to there instead of my internal storage. However, sometimes AFT doesn't want to "open up" my SD card and gives me those window pop-ups with "Not Connected" or "Unlock your phone" kind of messages. I am able to connect to the internal storage (only after a few connection issues), but every time I click on "Card" in the AFT window, it almost automatically shows a pop-up of the messages I mentioned above.
The weird thing is that this only occurs randomly. Such as yesterday and a couple of days before, I was able to transfer music files from my Mac to S7 using AFT, but today I cannot.
I also do not want to remove the SD card because the last time I did, my computer showed that nothing was on my SD card (even though my phone showed that there was), and my playlists kept being deleted.
If anyone has a solution, please let me know.
Thank you!
Been using Fast File Transfer for a long time. You can transfer files over Wifi pretty easy to do too. One of my Favourite apps. Fast and easy
Hi! I really need help with this phone. SD cards won't appear on my phone, they used to though. The problem, I suppose, started when suddenly my phone gave me an error message saying that my SD card was corrupted. I left it like that for a while, but the message never went away, until recently when I tried to fix it by formatting the card with my computer as FAT32 so I could root the phone. After that it recognized it but quickly stopped, it just disappeared, and every time I removed the card and placed it back in the message would appear for a second and vanish the next. I decided to try to format it again on the pc and see if it would get recognized on another phone (Moto G 2gen.. which had another card on it), and it did.. When I saw that the other phone could see it and even use the card, I tried to see if the one that was on that phone worked on my Moto X.. it didn't. It didn't even display the error message. So I placed the first card back on the Moto X Play and the corruption message appeared for what seemed like less than a second every time I remove and replaced the card, that kept happening for a while, until eventually no message appeared even if I rebooted the phone. The card can be used by just about anything, but nothing gets recognized on the phone. I don't think that the slot is faulty since I've had the phone for more than a year now and more than half of that time I didn't use an SD card, also the problem started just recently and the slot seems just fine, the sim card works great and it goes right on top of the SD card. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
PS: Is there anyway to root the phone without sd card? I really need to root it. Also the phone is running Marshmallow.
Hi!
I have Motorola G7 power xt-1955-4.
And I also got a 512gb Kingston hama sdcard.
The card was formatted as internal storage.
The problem is that today I saw that I can't access the files on my phone. This happened after I moved several files from phone to my computer, to free up some space.
Now, when I open File manager it shows "main storage not available".
I reinserted my SD card a couple of times, but I keep having a notification saying "checking sdcard... Reviewing current content".
When I go to Settings - Storage it says only "sdcard checking..".
When I press on "Checking sd card" notification only it gives me the option to Forget.
How can I access my SD card without formatting it?
Thank you.
You said you moved some files from the card to your PC? How did you do this? If you removed the card from the phone and put it in your PC, then what you effectively did was slice off part of your phone's storage, messed with the files, and put it back in. You cut off a piece of brain, rooted around in it, and tried to reattach it.
Internal storage means the card is not removable, and the storage space will be filled with files essential to the phone. Chances are to get the card to work again it needs to be reformatted.

Sorry I'm a bit late. I had this same issue recently. Until now, I have had a problem with any program recognizing the drive without offering to format it first. I can't do that because I am stupid and had important files on there I need. I just located DiskGenius and I am running it now.
Not sure this will repair the issue, but it recognized the sd card which I had set as the primary storage not knowing something like this could happen. It is running a search now for bad sectors. When it finds them, it will provide a repair, but the sectors will be deleted. I am hoping it won't be the sectors that contain my files that I need to recover. But it's a step in the right direction.
I now know not to set an sd card as main storage for Android, because it encrypts the files, and it tied the SD card to the system. I can't even install apps right now because the main storage is non existent.
I just had to throw out a 62g card due to corruption. I do t know how it happened but I eventually had to factory reset/wipe phone. I put the card in a laptop to reformat it. Wouldn't work. I'm getting a new card, but I will not make it phone storage. Bummed me out.
