How do I promote a free utility Android app? - General Questions and Answers

There are many articles talking about the app promotion, but I found most of them are gaming focused. So I wonder does anyone know good articles that talk about promoting free utility android app? Thanks in advance

I don't see any difference between Game and Utility app promotion. I don't think Google Play has different categories for them. You just need to get installs and reviews to boost your rating in Google Play

[Q] What is the best way to promote an app?

I am looking for a good way to promote my app, tried adduplex, youtube video,
wmpoweruser.com.. any suggestion would be helpful. thanks
I don't want to be rude but if any one can help me, is there any website, Blog to promote my App on.
I am considering releasing a free version, and I've added Adduplex ads to exchange ads and promote the app, and the free version will be available soon after the certification.
you can give sites like pocketnow.com, wpcentral tips or info about your app because they do app reviews
you can also promote your app through an APP but with limitations. another is THIS im not sure if both promos are still running.
you can also add facebook to your list.
im not a developer nor a marketing specialist. but i do hope this would help you out in a way.

AdDuplex looks very promising. A web-like advertising module does great good.
AdDuplex is still in early versions... having images/motions in ads will be a lot more awesome.
Facebook
Today Facebook is a very good site to promote something. You can make your own site. It´s free
how about making a video demo of your app and publish it in youtube? then just share the link in facebook, twitter or to any social network. you can also have blogs review your app.

[APP STORE] Top 5 Independent App Stores..

##1 GetJar App Store
.
With more than 2 billion downloads to date and around 395,000 registered app developers and publishers, GetJar is the largest independent app store on the Internet today. Its substantial Android app offering alone (around 350,000 apps) can easily rival that on the Google Play market. These figures should give publishers a good idea of how effective GetJar is as an app distribution platform.
GetJar features a reward and virtual currency system known as GetJar Reward and GetJar Gold respectively. GetJar rewards allow users to earn reward points for personally recommending apps. These rewards can be used to purchase app upgrades, themes, and unlocks. The more users are rewarded, the more they will recommend your app to other users. GetJar Gold (earned every time a user downloads a new app) is a virtual currency that can be used to purchase premium apps. These reward systems, along with GetJar’s cross-platform compatibility, make it a top choice when looking for indie app stores to publish apps on.
##2 Amazon App Store
The Amazon app store offers apps exclusively for Android and is a nicely presented site that features many of the most popular Android apps, including Angry Birds, Twitter, Fruit Ninja, Shazam, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to name but a few. It offers in total over 4,000 apps. As of March 2012, Amazon’s App store has overtaken Google Play and claimed the no. 2 spot in app store revenue generation (bested only by the iTunes store)...
Most apps in the Amazon store are also available on the Android market, but Amazon provides access to another very large market of users. The Amazon App Store is easy to browse with simple access to ratings, reviews and screenshots by way of an Android handset simulator. One feature that sets this webstore head and shoulders above the rest is it offers a try-before-you-buy scheme, allowing your app to be tried out for size before purchasing by your prospective customers, a great way to ensure sales...!
##3 AndSpot App Store

The AndSpot App Store is an independent mobile application store that utilises social network sites to help users find apps that they really are interested in. AndSpot provides social networking features like activity feeds, profiles and recommendations so users can find apps based on what their friends like instead of searching through endless categories. Established in July 2010, AndSpot also offers a discussion board where users can discuss apps and features excellent privacy settings, allowing users to choose whether they want to share their apps or not, depending on which category they come under. It also offers a very competitive eighty percent of the revenue from their apps sold through its app store and developers don’t have to do anything additional to publish their apps on AndSpot...

##5 Crackberry App Store
CrackBerry deals exclusively with apps for the Blackberry market and is geared toward BlackBerry “users and abusers”. The site includes a "crack team” of bloggers who provide BlackBerry news, rumours, tips and reviews. With an almost slavish approach to the brand, the store even lists celebrity sightings of the mobile device. The site also offers software, games, ringtone and other downloads for BlackBerry users, and the user c...
Hi there,
This is not the place to be posting this sort of stuff. For one thing, it's a copy & paste of the below linked article. No credit is given to the original author.

Second, this is the apps & games forum. It is a forum to post yep, you guessed it, developers & users to post apps and games. Please refrain from these sort of posts in the future. This thread is closed.

Thoughts about app promotion using App Streaming?

Hi Guys, what are your thoughts about using app streaming to promote new apps? Google, Amazon, Rovio has been involved in it, and apparently a new startup called Nenli is also offering the service (they have a demo at nenlitech [dot] com). Basically, the idea is to make an app playable on web, so potential users don’t need to download (and pay) to try out apps. You can promote free trials of the full app by simply sharing and URL on social media, forums, app review site and your own landing page, and people can try your app instantly. Do you see such service as worth having if I were to advertise my app?

Duplicate. Please don't crosspost (ask the same question in multiple places). It's akin to SPAM.

How did you promote your App?

Hello,
It suddenly occurred to me, after years working on my game, that I'd not given one thought to promoting it.
Having browsed apps created in Gideros, they seem to have really good download numbers. Reading google, and checking lot mobile app promotion articles there's a lot of mixed information on promoting apps (along with a lot of services ready to charge a fee...)
I have worked a lot with Google Adwords in the past, and I'm considering this method as the traffic is such good quality. I've also had success using SEO to promote things online. So that could be a route.
What's your experience with getting the word out there?
I'd really appreciate any constructive criticism from you guys.
Thank you!
