Can Shield K1 be an an office tablet? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I currently have an ipad mini which is perfect for Hearthstone and Netflix for which I am currently mostly using it. However I am seriously thinking to buy a K1 in case as an addition to the above it could be used as an “office” machine. Let me explain what I meant.
I would like to buy the stylus beside the tablet and use the tablet in the office as my primary note taking device and throw away my paper based notepads. Ideally I would use Onenote which is supported by my company so all my notes would sync to my notes on my company laptop.
Does anyone has experience using the stylus on a daily basis in a similar situation?
I also heard that that HP slate 7 extreme stylus is better for writing than the nvidia stylus. Can anyone confirm this?
Thank you
mad

The shield stylus works very well I use it all the time. I don't have any issues with it. It's extremely helpful that you can turn finger touches off so that you can rest your palm while you write.

Hi.
Thank you for your answer. Do you have the new tablet (K1) or the old?
Thanks

I have the original and my gf has the new one.

I'm not sure that you can turn off finger/hand touches with the K1. I believe I've read that with the K1 shipping without a stylus, that this feature was removed. Again, I'm not 100% sure of this, but I want OP to know this before purchase, so he/she can verify with certainty. Maybe someone with K1 and stylus can give a definitive answer.

Hi. Good point. Probably ou2mane could try it on his girlfriends tablet. If you dont mind

@ OP: I use my K1 mainly for note taking, drawing, reading and Plex atm.
Also check out Squid that comes pre-installed by default on the K1. Perfect for taking notes. You can even set the DirectStylus as your default tool and you finger for other actions, i.e:

The k1 doesn't have the ability to turn off the screen touches with the stylus.. At least I couldn't find out how to turn the menu on, but it does let me put my palm on it and it doesn't record touches while using my shield's stylus.

gfx tablet

hey guys im thinking about buying this but i was wondering if the could replace my wacom bamboo gfx pad, by this i mean could i hook it up to my laptop and ust it photoshop cs6??
This is exactly what I did:
My Bamboo now rests in peace although I really loved it.
I use "Unified Remote Pro" which perfectly works over BT and WiFi without any lag on my Vaio Z14 and Graphic Workstation PC both running Adobe CS 5.5, some 3 bucks well invested.
There are a lot of other apps in the market to do similar, mostly free, but I did not try them since I needed the best rated and professional app from the beginning, having no time to experiment.
If You have time You will find an app that fits most to Your personal needs.
Compared to my Bamboo the SGN10.1 for my personal workstyle works at least with the same precision if not better due to the larger surface and the adjustable sensitivity of Unified Remote app.
Unified remote does not have 3-finger and 4-finger swipe implemented, so if You heavily use The Windows 7 Air-Desktop feature You will be disappointed. Maybe with the time the Devs of Unified Remote will implement also this once more Tabs could be used as Digitizer
I only have cheap bamboo atm and I use for point and click mostly with some peset shortcuts so this sounds perfect now to raid the piggy bank lol

Every tablet and smartphone can be used with an aftermarket smartphone pen.
If you are talking about a real digitizer, our note 10.1 is the only device that has this feature at the moment.
I believe he means with an active digitizer like you mentioned. I was just looking into this myself. I use the ipad and the application on it called myScript Notes which has pretty good handwriting recognition in a variety of languages However, I hate a capacitive stylus because its so fat and inaccurate. There are a few add-on active digitizers for the ipad but they are all really no good. The Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Lenevo Thinkpad Tablet both have active styluses. And low and behold, one of the Lenevo's main features was this myScript app that I wanted. But I don't think the Lenevo is supported any more nor the handwriting app updated. The Galaxy Note 10.1 has the s-pen app but its recognition and features pale to myScript Notes. Now for me, there is good news and bad news.: The good news is that there is an android version of myScript Notes in the Samsung app store. The bad news is that for some dumb legal reason, they can't have it in the USA Samsung app store. Just earlier today, I posted a quick message asking if there was a way to by-pass this and access another country's app-store but I haven't gotten any replies yet
Anyway, I went into a lot of detail with my particular search for an Android tablet with a stylus but I think I answered your question
Thanks form the replies . these are the 2 tabs that i could find too.... Surprised no others have come into this arena yet.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by that too. It seems that the only other alternative are Windows 8 tablets. There are a few that use an active stylus like the Microsoft Surface Pro, Samsung Smart PC 500T, Lenevo Thinkpad Tablet 2, and an Asus model among others. But they can get pretty pricy and I'm not too confident about the apps optimized for tablet use on them.
I was just searching Google for this very thing and stumbled upon this thread. There is another, which I own, and it's the HTC Jetstream (Puccini). I was searching because HTC completely abandoned this excellent tablet with 3.1 on it. I am a financial contributor to the project to get it updated to JB but the development is slow going which is why I was Googling for other tabs with pen support. Depending on your needs, the Jetstream may be a good deal since they've been had on eBay lately for $250 or so.
The first gen thinkpad tablet had a active digitizer.

As mentioned the TPT had a digitizer. I believe a TPT2 has a digitizer too, but it's Win8. ( Boo Lenovo. )
I think sales of the gnote10.1 will determine whether or not we see more tabs with digitizers.
I do know that Apple has filed a patent with a digitizer for a tablet.
As has been mention HTC also has some digitizer devices but I think they are mostly phones.
I've also hear that Google has added digitizer support to ICS, does anyone know the details?
For the iPad- the "GoSmart" stylus seems like it is the best stylus for it. Looks ridiculous- but check out the 200 series

Using a capacitive stylus and digitizer is totally different ball game....
People should looks at some of the newer windows 8 pro tabletss that have stylus input. I have not used any so far but looks like they need more work to be done.

I have an elderly HTC 7inch Evo View. I actually grab it first. It's digitizer pen is excellent, but it is running Android 3.2.1 and HTC has abandoned it.
The new Note 8 looks good.
I'm also using the HTC Flyer (or View or EVO whatever Sprint called it) on Sprint still. Not only has HTC abandoned it, but the old data plan isn't even available from Sprint anymore. I'm grandfathered into the old plan (shame I didn't get 4G, I'm just on 3G and it's a 4G tablet - WiMax though, which is dying). I'm about ready to just cancel that.
The Flyer is a GREAT tablet with a GREAT pen. It's very accurate. However, I'm looking to upgrade it now. It's a bit slow and I'd like the latest version of Android. Maybe I can find a ROM, but really I'd like a faster tablet. I might also like it to be 10" too.
I would get the new Surface tablets that have pens from Microsoft if they A. weren't so expensive and B. had a longer battery life.
All I want is a decently powered (hardware) tablet I can draw on that lasts 8+ hours. Preferably 10+ hours. Oh and with modern resolution.
The Flyer lasts a good while, but it's old. Plain and simple.
I'm still using it for note taking and business. It's a wonderful tablet and since there's an obvious lack of options here, I'd highly suggest picking one up off eBay or something. Fantastic tablets if you want to use a pen with accuracy. Awesome for sketching. There's an app called "Quill" which is one of my favorites. Super thin fine pen stroke options.
I may look for the Puccini (Verizon got the 10" version of the Flyer which maybe has better hardware who knows). I can see 10" coming in handy.
I truly wish someone would make another tablet with active digitizer...
Hi.
I will like to ask which Android supporting active digitizer pens devices are available on the market?
For me moment I only know this ones:
Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (v1)
The Galaxy Note family
HTC Flyer
HTC Jetstream (It seems to support active digitizer pens according to what I read).
HTC EVO View 4G (It seems to support active digitizer pens according to what I read).
What is the hardware requirement for the tablet to support an active digitizer pen? Does it has to have a special screen to support the pen? It depends of the type of active pen?
Any interesting software for the active digitizer pen? I really like:
Quill
MyScript Notes Mobile (ICR)
MyScript Stylus (Beta) (looks good)
Regards

Note Pro 12.2 as Watcom tablet

Hello, anybody succeed in using the Note PRO 12.2 LTE as a tablet for the PC? How good it is compared with the real Intuos Medium Tablet I use SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, 3Ds MAX, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Thanks.

Wacom not Watcom
Thanks but sorry I still can't find it. Could you please provide the link?
Avatron has been developing an application for this. I have been a user of their Air Display application for a while now and they have recently released a new application called Air Stylus. I've purchased it and can see promise in the development of the app. It's currently Mac only.
With a host application installed on my mac and the Air Stylus app on the tablet I'm able to connect the tablet over wifi as a second display. I then launch Photoshop and move the window over to the tablet display to use the stylus. It works ok with the obvious delay that one would expect over wifi. Resolution support is limited, either showing an interface thats far too small to see or one that is far too pixelated. Hopefully the app improves. I've reached out to support to inquire on plans to support more scaled resolutions.

Netiher have I, it appears to have vanished.
I do still have the link to the very promising program, but it doesn't work with Adobe Photoshop according to the FAQ from 2012, since Adobe uses a different display driver. http://www.sunnysidesoft.com/virtualtablet/

Is this Tablet still worth buying ?

Ok,, so I'm looking for a tablet and you can now buy this K1 device for £149.
So, I was wondering if this is the one I should go for or, can you please recommend a better one.
I want it for the normal stuff, Netflx, youtube and obviously gaming.
Thanks in advance.
IMO, The Shield Tablet is second to none. Its a true powerhouse and if you want to game, none do it better. I own 4 Shield Tablets. 2 I purchased at $299 and recently 2 more of the K1 versions at $199.
I would happily pay $299 for these so at $199, its a no-brainer.
The only real question is are you satisfied with an 8 inch screen? Some folks want to carry a TV around with them.
Double posted.

Thank you...just got home with it and I'm delighted. Only played with for 10 minutes. Turned it on for the first time and I got the MM update straight away which I'm really happy with. This thing is as smooth to use as my partners iPad air which I wasn't expecting.*
Can I ask you one last thing? I just signed up to the 3 months free game streaming service, do I need a controller to play them games or can you just use the tablet ?
Thanks again.

Can anyone give advice on what stylus they're successfully using with this device? I'm a lefty with less than stellar handwriting, but the stylus seems terrible regardless. I would love to use this as a tablet to take notes and, in a perfect world, turn them into text. Any stylus that is compatible, I'd be willing to try if it gave me a shot at doing that.
OR- Maybe just helping me know what type of digitizer is used in the tablet so I can better shop for a stylus?
Anyone else facing laggy experience in windows 10?? eg when pressing chrome to execute, it takes almost 10 seconds for it to get ready.. Or when double taping an exe, almost 10 seconds to even start executing.. Any ideas??
My Chuwi is Hi10 Pro HQ64G42170302xxx. After flashing rom CM12, camera doesn't work. I flash stock rom again, but this problem isn't resolved.

I have been using the Hi10 Pro / HiPen H2 Active Stylus Pen. I bought it when I bought the tablet because they still arguing that Hi 10 Pro is compatible with active stylus but in fact it worked like a ****. In Android I am using INKredible app but stylus work pretty bad and in Windows I download an app specifically for stylus and the stylus still not work properly when I try to write. It only work to swipe down and up and recognizes touching buttons too.
So I think that this tablet don't have real compatibility with an active stylus pen. It quite sad but it's the truth.
Cheers

Link for "Official Firware" does not work anymore. I found some downloads on this link instead:
https://forum.chuwi.com/t/hi10-pro-official-version-chuwi-hi10-pro-windows-android-bios-driver-tutorial-download/909
Before also those link won't work anymore, I downloaded all the things.
I modified my Chuwi Hi10 (HQ64), removed Android and installed Windows 10 only. Everything works but battery doesn't last long and lags badly. I assume if I change os to a custom android rom would eliminate both issues. Can anyone confirm? If so, which custom rom and how? Tha KS in advance.
