Yes, make sure to backup your TA first, otherwise you can't relock it again.

You need not unlockbootloader just to root, but if you are changing kernels..then you should unlock
no need to unlock
Here you can find how to root .14 simply with no unlocked bootloader required
tested by me and work perfectly

[Q] how to tell if bootloader has been relocked

I bought a used Z3. I want to make sure that the bootloader has not been relocked. I have gone into the service menu and it does not say that it is unlocked. If it had been relocked, would it say it there? Is there a way I can check that it hasn't been unlocked and then relocked?
*#*#7378423#*#*
Service info/configuration
Bootloader unlock allowed:No (Boot is locked and cannot be unlocked)
Bootloader unlock allowed:yes (Boot is loacked but can be unlocked)
Bootloader unlocked:yes (Boot is unlocked)
Greg
I don't think you can tell if it has been locked and relocked

Try using miracast
It's reported to be broken in devices with unlocked bootloader

Afaik
It won't
yeah I've got Bootloader unlock allowed:yes but that doesn't say whether it's been relocked.
on some HTC devices it would say "relocked" in the bootloader, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for.
and unfortunately I don't have anything to miracast with anyway.

Unlook bootloader then update or update then unlock bootloader? Or does it matter?

Just got my OnePlus One yesterday and I was gonna unlock the bootloader but there is a update out.
So my question is:
Do I update THEN unlock the bootloader?
Do I unlock the bootloader THEN update?
Does it matter?
Thank you

It doesn't matter - just unlock it before you install anything
Doesn't matter at all, as @spanna said. The bootloader can be unlocked no matter which build you're on.

Bootloader unlock allowed-no

I bought m2 from Croatian t-mobile and I can't unlock the bootloader.I can use this recovery:https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/development/d2303-philz-touch-recovery-6-t3047492
But I want to flash LinageOs 14.1, but @galaxyfreak says that it needs an unlocked bootloader.
I heard if you flash older firmware that it can change from no to yes.
Any recommendations?

The bootloader unlock allowed:no thing means that you'll never be able to use custom roms if they don't support locked bootloaders.
It can be unlocked, that is just nonsense. The phone is network locked since the bootloader cannot be unlocked. SIM unlock your phone and the bootloader will be able to be unlocked
Not work for me. My phone was network locked to telenor, and they give a code.
Now is sim unlocked for all networks, but still says -
Bootloader unlock allowed: No

You don't. You know the saying.... Once you go bootloader unlocked, you never go back.
There's a DRM fix which brings back camera and other functionalities that are usually lost on unlock. So use that.
