I need to clear phone storage but Gallery app won't let me. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a full storage on my Galaxy S6 32G, and I'm really trying to clear a lot of photos which are about 6,000... the problem is, that every time I log onto the gallery app, it atomically tells me I have to clear my files and redirects me to the files app, where it tells me the same thing any time I click on any photo. It's telling me to clear ffilefiles while not allowing me to see any, and I want to see my photos also. How can I look at them???

Over a PC?

Install a file manager, you can try with ES File Explorer, Astro File Manager, or any other file manager of your choice.

He stated in the OP that his storage is full.
@peteypaul You can eighter try connecting to your computer and remove/backup from there, or you can go to settings - storage and delete you "Cached Data" / Any big files under "Miscellaneous files"

[SOLVED]How to force images to open ALWAYS in Resco Photo Manager (even from Sense)

Hi all!
I'm currently totally overwhelmed by the capabilities of the new Resco Photo Manager 7 I've made the program to associate all image file formats. But I'm thinking further... Is it possible that my phone opens all images always in Resco Photo Manager, even when I open them through the HTC Sense Pictures&Videos tab? This would be so nice...
well, in the resco-options you redefine which format (*.jpg, *.bmp, ...) photo manager to handle. if you don't fix a format in the options photo manager woul'd not open it

I know that and already done it. My point is that it works only when I open images from file exploeres. I want it to work also when I open images through HTC SENSE Pictures&Videos Tab. The phone opens images from the Pictures Tab in the default HTCAlbum app, but I want it to open them in Resco
just make a copy of resco photo manager and rename the exe file to HTCAlbum.exe than copy ALL file to Winodws folder(replace the HTCAlbum.exe), than you can open images in HTCSense Camera by using resco photo manager

you should include all files (especially the dll and 2 folders...), then reboot the phone. (or not required)

Help
Hello!
Please help me how did you replace the HTCAlbum.exe file?? I can not delete or replace it either! Please write down the whole procedure! Thanks
You will need something like Resco Explorer or Total Commander to do it - the standard file explorer will not work.
On a different subject, can those who have tried this report whether the program creates any cache files and whether it is possible to install to the SD Card instead of main memory. I don't like the HTC Album app because its cache files seem to be larger than the actual files themselves and there are few options in terms of moving the cache to card storage - this could be a great workaround as long as it's not just creating another storage overhead in main memory.

Ok, my procedure was like this:
1) do a backup of the "HTCAlbum.exe" file from "Windows/" directory, for example copy it to storage card
2) select all files and folders (EXCEPT PhotoMan.exe) from "Program Files/Resco Photo Manager/" and copy them to "Windows/" directory
3) copy "PhotoMan.exe" to some neutral directory, for example storage card, and rename it to HTCAlbum.exe
4) cut the above file from the neutral directory and paste it into "Windows/" directory. The phone should ask you if you want to overwrite the file, say YES.
I used Resco Explorer to perform all the above operations
Thanks a lot. It works well.
Worked, but I must say, that when you click a random picture in the Picture tab in Sense, it just opens Resco photo manager at the start screen, and not at the picture you selected in the Picture tab in Sense.
ya can u plz tell us step by step what u just did cz my htc album always gets stuck everytime i open it directly or through camera so m really fed up of it......thanx
wana ask after u came a pic with camera and want to preview it does it open in htc default album or resco ???

after that, you may open any images from Sense by resco photo manager

Check the folder where you stored your pics...
For a file called "no media" if u found that delete it...
If this doesn't work delete the . thumbnail folder in DCIM folder.....this should work...
But to see that file or folder.. Hidden files must be shown via file manager...
If you not found that connect ur device to pc or laptop then delete that folder....
Hope this helps

Ok I just want to make sure of no catastrophic failures, lol.. I opened "my files" clicked device storage, and scrolled all the way to last files listed without opening any folder, and I see a file called .nomedia, is this the file? You did say open a folder to find this file, but in this case its not in a folder. 2, I clicked on .thumbnails in the DCIM folder and I see images, when I delete this file, will I now loose these images? I am awaiting further instructions before I do anything, because I have moved to quickly before and lost a lot of images before.. Please and thank you for your assistance.

Calendar Storage

My phone is a Blu Pure XL and rooted.
So I guess I made a slight mistake with wanting to get rid of the stock Calendar app because I just disliked it. Maybe should have just disabled it or something instead. I did a factory reset on it and somehow or another the Calendar app reappeared again. But I am still getting the issue where it shuts down because of the Calendar Storage not being installed anymore (Whoops). I looked online elsewhere and cannot find any apk. Help would be nice! I have tried with reinstalling the app as well and that does no good, I am assuming because it has nothing to do with the app, but rather Android itself.
I don't know if there is just that part I can install through TWRP or something? I know there is an apk app in the Play Store, APK Manager Downloader I believe, that allows you to save apks onto your SD card to send to others. Maybe that would download the apk files from the Pure XL calendar app, then it could be uploaded to this page and I could download and install it.
Resolution!
I was able to find a link (download.apks.org/?apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=5.1.1-981c9024fa&server=darkkiller) for Lollipop 5.1+ Calendar Storage APK. Somebody helped me out on Google+.
You need Link2SD and ES File Explorer and the zip file you downloaded from above (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)
I saved the zip to my internal storage, opened the zip in ES File Explorer, and installed the APK in the zip. After that you will have a pop up where you can install. So install the Calendar APK.
Once that has finished, head on over to Link2SD and you should be able to find Calendar Storage. Tap on that then in the top right menu select "Convert to system app". You will have to reboot your phone after after that completes.
This should resolve your issues!
If you are running 4.4.4 and need Calendar Storage APK: (download.apks.org/?server=12&apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=4.4.4-a1d45e8141)

gaint .thumbnail folder

Hi guys! I have an Xperia Z3 D6633 running on official Android version 6.0.1 with build number 23.5.a.1.291 rooted. My problem is that almost 5.0 GB of my internal storage is consumed by ".thumbnails" folder which I want to delete. I have searched some solutions and found out that normally people get some free space till these files reappear and in the mean time they can make this space useful but the case is different here. I have tried to delete this folder and all the containing files but even though the folder disappears for some time, I still don't get any free space even for a short time and the files start to reappear after some time. I don't have any Gallery other than the Album app and as it cannot be deleted, I have tried disabling but the problem still remains. I have also tried creating a new folder with the same name but the system would rename it to ".thumbnails 1" and another folder with the name ".thumbnails" would reappear . I had the same problem also with Lollipop on this device. I use FILE KOMMANDER, it is the system app.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Try MiXplorer from XDA (file commander isnt so good) then delete the .thumbs folder
Try Ccleaner from play store
Try SD Maid from play store
Try clearing data from Settings - apps - Media Storage (all your media will appear to be gone. It is still there but the phone wont see it until you reboot / download and run Media.re.scan from play store)
I wouldn't really know what else to suggest other than a clean install of your ROM even if it is stock as this seems like a bug

thumbnails folder store preview for all of your photos that you see on your gallery app (taken w camera or from whatsapp), if you want a smaller folder, transfer some pics to your pc or go cloud with google photos

FYI .thumbnails folder will always exist to make android media work properly, easiest method is delete those folder (.thumbnails) then create file named .thumbnails
In my case I'm using es file explorer, best file manager ever for me
You should accept all consequences, app that using photo preview from Android Media will not show or buggy (ie. Instagram, Facebook)

Okay, so they are in Android folder..
EDIT.. no succesful now.. so please help.
It seems that you are in file manager or so.
What do you want to delete?
If you want to see different details, open the menu at left, touching the horizontal bars.
If you want to use a better file manager, instead install Root Explorer or similar from the P store.
