Unlimited Mobile Tether help? - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I signed up for the unlimited mobile Hotspot from t mobile. After about 30 GB my speed was slowed down to 128 KBps. Can anyone give me or direct me to a guide of how to set up my mobile tethering so that it will actually be unlimited? I'm on 4.4.4 and I'm rooted. I've been looking for some help but all of the things I've seen have either been very complicated or hasn't worked. For example the PGA.net installer didn't work on my pc for whatever reason.
Thank you.

Seems like you can not increase your speed as it's policy by your ISP

free Mobile Hotspot ending on 15th.. best alternatives?

Few more days now and the mobile hotspost will end.. now my question is. what is the best tethering?
i am rooted and using dasbamf 1.6.3
is there any way to patch the mobile hotspot? i have the barnacle and i preferred the native tethering on TB.
Wireless tether for root users... Perhaps

It would be better to just pay for it..... Unauthorized tether is the #1 reason for locked bootloaders and such IMHO.

What does tethering have anything to do with the bootloader?

LMFAO!!!! Seriously! Wow. The hardware manufacturers that create locked bootloaders could care less about wireless tethering. The dumb pipe cell companies are the only ones that care about it. The locked bootloaders are so you cant screw with their bloated overlay. IMO.
"wireless tether"
I think its no longer on the market. Recently got removed. If u PM me I will send it to you in an email though
You can just download it from their site here.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
As long as you're rooted you can install it from there by going to the download tab and downloading 2.0.7 or any of the stable build.

Should be available from the market if you turn on airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi. It is the wireless carriers that are causing gathering apps to be filtered from the market, this should work around it, though.

Depends on what you are doing. Overall if you are just tethering to your computer PDAnet is your best bet. Xbox or PS3 (Ha if they ever get their network back) I would stay with Wireless Tether for root users.

Or you could google and see what everyone else has done on xda before you:

http://www.google.com/search?q=PdaN...um=50&lr=lang_en&ft=i&cr=&safe=off&tbs=,qdr:y
Note that all of the info is for 3g only phones and may or may not work 100% on ours.
They will be charging for the wireless hotspot app for sure. Does anyone know for sure if wired tether will remain free? I have heard "opinions", but nothing credible. VZ wouldn't tell me either.

Nope. All tethering will be paid unless you root to get around it.

If that's the case, has anyone been able to get wired tether (better anyway, data remains active on the device) to work? The htc tethering app seems to interfere.
Wireless tether works fine.
When I used "wireless tether for root users" my data was still active? I was able to make calls and reply to an email while being connected with a laptop.
I don't use it very often which is why I can't justify the extra cost per month. I had purchased "tether" while it was 50% for my blackberry for the same reason. They have that for android now to so that is an option for people.

If 4g speed can stay the same for the other tethering device. you can almost cancel internet at home, unless you play games
Is that like a cordless extension cord?

This is the sort of logic that will cause unlimited data plans to skyrocket in price or even be abandoned.

Portable Hotspot

Does portable hotspots work for anyone? I didn't know if there was a monthly charge to get it working but everytime I try using it the other device can't connect

If you're using an unrooted stock rom, then I believe you have to be a subscriber to T-mobile's add-on hotspot plan. If you're using a rooted custom rom, like CM7, then it's built-in...and the only thing you have to worry about is your data usage.

Did you set up encryption or leave the security open? I'm on the gingerbread update unrooted and my hotspot works fine. It worked fine on froyo stock unrooted as well.

yeah how can the cellular co's dictate how we can use our data ?
does it stress the towers more using wifi hotspot to our laptop ?
Somebody should do something about this , what can we do ?

Did they see the hotspot? Also it times out after a period of inactivity, perhaps it had timed out before you connected the laptop.
Maybe even try with encryption on.
I can also verify that the stock unrooted Froyo ROM does tethering without anything special in your plan.

[Q] Tethering without T-mobile knowing

Is it possible to tether (use wifi hotspot) so that T-Mobile won't know that I am tethering? I have the "unlimited" 2GB per month data plan and would really like to tether without paying for the tethering option. Does anyone know if there is a 3rd party app or some other way around them knowing that I am tethering? I know there have been a couple threads about this but none gives a clear answer. Thanks!

Root and install a ROM then use the built in tethering with the ROM. Carriers won't know you're tethering but it will show them that you're using a lot of data

I actually DID get fully blocked from Tethering back in January. They'd been warning me for 2 months when it happened. I had gone over my cap by quite a bit in December, if that makes a difference... crawling internet was better than no internet! Had received several warnings. Made user agent and other changes in my browser that was supposed to hide the activity, but they DID cut me off. Tethering stopped working completely.
Thankfully that was right at the time they were offering the free tethering add-on if you upgraded to 5gb data from 2gb so I called up and had them add that. I was already at 5gb, but I told them I'd be dropping my data if they didn't give me the tethering... Don't know if that is still offered.

Well I won't use tethering a ton because I'm usually in wifi range. I got a Xoom off of craigslist last week and I don't feel like paying for Verizon 4G LTE so I figured I could attempt to tether with the G2x cuz I'm cheap
Lol you guys are making this way too complex for the OP. Just get OpenGarden or Barnacle Tether from the Play Store! Just have to be rooted.

Some devices can't connect to an Ad-Hoc connection (which is what those apps create), like the PS3. Perhaps your tablet is like that too.
Ok thanks. I guess I'll just use the built in tethering app. I was using it yesterday for an hour or so and had no problems.

Prem Hotspot on PD2?

So I've figured a way to get the hotspot working on update pd2. Only thing is if i profile update it goes away, not much of a concern because i never profile update but i would like to have the choice to profile update and not worry about losing hotspot and then going through that progress to get it back. Does anyone know how to keep hotspot even after a profile update? Thanks much appreciated.

Hotspot working with PE1

Ok, I did not want to start a new thread but since this is not a mod and pertains to PE1 firmware only I started it.
Just and FYI of my history with the S7 Edge
Purchased it from Best Buy and took the first update by then the APN settings were grayed out and no hope for the hotspot mod to work as reported. As each update came out still no luck.
Then the last PE1 update popped up on my phone and I installed it. After a couple reboots, I took a chance and turned on the hotspot expecting for it to come on and then give me the subscription error. To my surprise it never did, I was able to login to the hotspot with my tablet and get internet.
Thinking it was a fluke, I rebooted several times and kept trying it with the same results. Sometimes I would even wait 10 to 30min before turning on the hotspot.
I have never been able to edit my APN or get hotspot to work before PE1. Installed PE1 and now it works?
Strange, yes but I am not complaining. Can anyone else that had no hotspot and installed PE1 check theirs to see if you have the same results.

Did you check to see that you weren't using the wifi sharing feature? Did you check that APNs are editable?
i havent isntalled the latest update but yeah, thats is a work around to get hostpot on if your APN settings are grayed out. Just restar your phone and as soon as it gets back on go to your settings and turn hospot on. It doesnt work for me the first time I tried after a reboot, I get the error message but the second time(without rebooting) always work. Im on sprint with the unlimited data plan.

That workaround is common knowledge and has nothing to do with this specific update. We are trying to find out if APNs are editable so that we don't have to constantly restart the phone for a chance of getting hotspot working . . . OP was not clear on whether he was able to edit his APNs to get hotspot working or not.
op your hotspot dont work your wifi sharing. in hotspot config turn off wifi sharing and try it
unless you have a pbc original rom (like i do lol) you have to do as stated above restart phone, turn on hotspot fast before the software loads up that blocks it
I just updated my Good Lock application today. I noticed hotspot is working without restating or without the mod.
