Hold home button go in google now - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI, I have my mate 7 mt7-tl10, and I want to hold home button to go in google now, and I know other versions of mate 7 have this function. So I tried to use more locale 2 to change my country to us, but it still doesn't activate this function. Is there any possible solution or idea for this?

[Q] Lock for default android buttons

Is there a method of preventing the default android buttons: home, menu, search, and back from being active? Or locking the default android buttons while still able to use the device? It seems like I am constantly bumping these keys, as I'm always back on my home screen some how. I tried google with no luck. Currently running vegan tab beta 5.1 which of course has the soft keys to use instead.I am looking for either a permanent our semi-permanent method. Thanks in advance.

As mentioned somewhere here, you can use Button Remapper to remap those four buttons to focus, effectively turning them off.
In addition, I would recommend the use of Button Savior to give you the ability to bring up soft buttons when needed (i.e. in apps where the task bar is not visible).
Use them both...problem solved
Which Button Remapper? Did a search in the market, found one for the hero and galaxy tab?

Thank you gonna give that a try now.
This works really well. Now I just have to train myself out of trying to use the capacitive buttons.

Change function of navigation keys (especailly long press home key)

Hi. I have the Chinese variant (AL00). In general I'm quite happy with it. One thing that I would like to change is the function of long press of the home navigation key. Currently, long press (with a swipe up) of the home key brings up HiVoice which as far as I can tell only works in Chinese. Is there a way to change the function of long press to start up another app without having root? I'm not interested in rooting at this point (at least until Xposed is up and running for Nougat). Also, I currently do not want to convert to international version as having Chinese version may have some, albeit small, advantages. Thanks!
Not sure if you have it on Chinese firmware but you can change it to google app, under application settings, click the settings and choose default app link.
Hi. thanks for the suggestion. I tried but it didn't work. Still get HiVoice. Hopefully it is not baked in...
One more note. OK google works fine in itself. Just don't want the current functionality given to long press home.
Have a look at Nova Launcher. I haven't tried what you want but it does have lots of options.

Thanks. I haven't used Nova Launcher for several years. Currently using Total Launcher. I'll take a look.
I tried Nova Launcher and it does allow me to reset my home button, but, I did not see an option to reset long press of the home button. Anybody know if and where there is such option on Nova?

OnePlus 8t not able to set default search assistant

I have the EU version of the Oneplus 8t kb2003. 100% stock locked etc. I depieced yesterday to wipe the phone as there was a number of things I wanted to sort out. So wiped it and set everything back up. I normally have alexa as my default voice assistant, when I long press the home button. But this time around when I go to change it in settings to alexa, nothing happens, it just stays on Google. Even if I select none it still launches the Google assistnat.
I tried it on my samsung work phone and it switches with out any issues, none Google or Alexa. Any ideas why I am not able to change the default assistant? I can set press double tap power to launch alexa, but that is not as nice as long press home.

Nah I dislike rooting phones now. I used to be all over it, You could make your phone so much better by rooting it. I remember the nexus 6, I rooted and even built my own version of android, but cant be bothered with the hassle in my old age!

Buggy OP phone is buggy.
I tested it for you and my OP 9 Pro (US T-Mobile version) "works" the same way. Changing under Assist and Voice Input has no effect on the home button long press. Even if I change from Search Assistant to Voice Search, it always uses the Goog.
Like you, only thing setting the default search assistant seems to affect is long pressing the home button. If I change it to Alexa, then it will use Alexa for that.
Maybe it used to work and you were "grandfathered in" to that setting so it didn't affect you until you reset the phone. Add that to the list of annoying, but not deal breaking, OP bugs.

Yes it is the long press home button I am trying to change. I would like to long press home and ask alexa to do X. But I dont seem to do that. I even used the msm tool and went back to the original version 11.0 that came with the phone, but nothing at all very odd.
Not a deal breaker, but as you say it is really annoying. The 8t was supposed to come with alexa hands free built in as well, but I never got it to work.

Remap home button key, really need help.

Hello guys
I spend all day today to thinking how can i remap home button (galaxy S7), i want to use this button as long press to install some application directly from directory.
I already tryed some remaps software from store, but there s no option to do it directly to file.
Best for me was tasker, but there s also no way to set up home button, the only way is volume up or down which is very uncomfortable, or i am doing something wrong.
Phone is rooted by magisk.
Please i really need help with that stuff or i am going to crazy soon...
And of course thanks for all people which will try to help me.
Found your solution ?
Ofcourse depends on the Rom you use.
Try Android 12 by @Ivan_Meler (?) LineageOs

Question Help as apps not updating

New GW 5 .
The set up completed. There are 10 apps to be updated - Wear Os, google assistant, google maps, messages, some health apps and others. I am in day 2 now. I can’t do a reboot as the holding the Home button for 7 seconds activates bixby. I did a back up, then a reset.
Is my watch defective?
A
No idea how you reboot.
But if you hold 1 Key this is "normal"...
Forced Emergency "Hardware Reset" require 2 keys to hold at same time... for few Seconds
B
Maybe give more details...
Model Name... Samsung Phone or other brand etc...
Best Regards
Try to update the apps one by one, as there have been issues with Google Play on some watches, where Update All doesn't work...

In case you need to in the furture you can remap the top button back to being a power button in settings. Also if you swipe down to quick settings, there is a power menu option for power off and restart

Yes, tried one at a time. Spotify just update, but that was not on of the apps. I don’t even have Spotify on my phone. Which is a Samsung S22. The download process just keeps going and going.

Found that setting remapping. The powering off and back on did not work either - meaning apps in a download “loop”

Looks like I got it. Though Watch said connected to wifi, it kept disconnecting. So, rebooted the router and apps updating.
