Couple of issues I have and wondered if someone could help.
The camera function places a huge grey chunk over 1/3 of the screen, with the capture button and settings. Can this be made transparent?
The pre-installws gallery app seems to have no means of separating photos. I've got my WhatsApp media jumbled with the photos I take and the other videos I've taken. Am I being silly or is this just a garbage attempt by Sony to revamp Android? Additionally, how can I change the default app that is opened through the camera, when trying to explore the media.
Thanks all
Renz
Change the resolution to a 16:9 resolution to get rid of the grey side. That's what 4:3 looks like on a 16:9 screen.
You can't change the default app from Sony's own camera. If you want to use photos from a camera app, use the Google camera app.

In album you can change how your photos are displayed, try the folder option from the left menu.
To change the default app,go to apps in the settings and click the app you want and clear default option.

no , you cant change the default gallery app from there. you can only do it by decompiling the apk and changing a line , or with an xposed module . sony camera doesnt give you the option to change the default gallery app that is launched from the sony camera

+1
Goto
settings/apps
and clear the defaults for the album app
Next time you open a picture you will be asked which app to do it with, choose the one you want and click always.
Quickpic app is and will always be my default picture gallery.

I have exactly the same problem. I've tried to disable the Album app, but then I can't open my pictures from the Camera App. It all worked fine in KitKat - the camera app was lunching the quickpic. Ever since I've updated to Lollipop it looks like Sony is forcing users to use the Album app, not very nice :/

Forcing? No. It is default. Want another one? Root.
Hello everyone, I really hate to bump an old thread, but I'm having this same problem. I sincerely dislike the Album app, so I've been trying to "fool" the Camera app by renaming the QuickPic apk just like the Album apk, with no success until now.
I am, of course, rooted. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Same here. Any possibilities to change the default app, which is opened by the camera app?
Also unable to change from the default Sony Album app to Google Photos. I used to have it set as default but then something changed/updated and now I am unable to change it back. I'm even unable clear defaults for either of the apps as they are not highlighted in App Info etc.
I guess that the default photo viewer is part of the camera app (just a guess), which would explain why you can't change it...
I got the same issue. One solution might be to just use Google's Camera app instead? And disable original camera and album apps. Or would that mess with something else? Like starting camera from camera button/lockscreen?
The Google Camera does work fine with the phone but when you press the camera button outside of the app, it will open the default camera app. Inside the app will just take a picture.
Hi guys,
check out this solution

For me works like a charm! (Z3C) -> QuickPic is now my default app

Thanks, but how did you install the fix?
Just follow instruction in the following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61614006&postcount=7
I uninstalled everything-literally. Works for me. I kept only video editor, timeshift burst, and the analyzer srvice. Opencamera and quickpic for me.
Could you do this for Xperia Z5 Compact?
Hey can somebody recommend me a tool for deodexing on OSX?

The best and easiest solution is to root your phone and remove the Sony album app from system/app folder and install any other app from play store (quickpic is the best). I have been doing this on every Sony phone that I have used till now.
I want to change the app that opens when I try to view the pictures I took from the camera app (by clicking the thumbnail in the camera app). When I open the last picture the camera app open it with Album which shows all the picture on my device !! is there any way to change it to another app, quickpic for example ?
I've tried clearing defaults in both the Camera and Album Apps but it seems that there is nothing to clear !

So why do you open another thread, asking the same thing. Is it not obvious to you that maybe it can't be done, which is why no response?
I've noticed the color of the thumbnails in the stock Samsung gallery app differ when they're actually enlarged. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't happen with third party gallery apps, but I'd prefer to keep the stock gallery app simply because it plays back the slomo video. If you haven't noticed, check it out. Watch the vibrant reds/blues slightly shift to a lighter red/blue.
Now, I've experimented with this, and noticed it does this when the "Adaptive display" setting is left on. However, leaving it on and testing this out with a third party gallery app, it worked perfectly. The display adapted and the colors matched. Of course the color will be the same once enlarged so as long as you change the display's screen mode to "AMOLED photo". However, I'd prefer the adaptive setting because I don't like the warmer white tones when using my phone for everything else besides photo editing.
Leaving it on "Adaptive display", the software should know when I am actually opening a photo and adjust the colors so they're accurate. But now I'm thinking that there's a glitch with the stock gallery. The adaptive display setting is working fine with third party gallery apps, just not that stock gallery app. Which is sorta ironic....
Thoughts?
i have the same.problem.. how to solve this ?? I want stock gallery too
In amoled photo or basic, when you use the camera or edit photos it automatically changes to Adaptive Display while doing those tasks.

This is exactly what is happening. When you're on the thumbnail view, the screen is set to oversaturate a lot, but when you actually click a photo to make it full screen, the adaptive display mode switches the screen calibration to a more accurate one, which is the change you're seeing. If you use a third party app, the screen will just remain in the oversaturated, not accurate calibration the entire time.
So what is solution, how to solve this? I want when I open the photo to see how it really looks on instagram and everywhere......

Put your display on Cinema, Photo or Basic as Adaptive changes the settings to look more vivid etc in gallery apps and isn't useful. Also i'd say it used more battery.
Hey guys, I have been searching a lot and I can't seem to find an app with this function.
All I want is to open up a camera app. Select a picture and overlay it on the camera/viewfinder. Then set the transparency of the picture to half or whatever feels right. Then align the new camera shot with the old picture and take a shot. This is one of the best ways to do a before after shot.
I have found few apps on the play store that do this function half-assed.
There is an app called "overlay camera" this apps looks pretty outdated but in it, you can overlay an image and set the transparency using the slider and take the picture. BUT when it saves the picture, it saves it WITH the transparent picture still overlaid on the camera. The transparent picture should only be used for alignment but this app saves the camera picture and the overlaid picture into one blurry mess of a picture.
There is another app called "Time Spirit" and in it you can create a photo lapse. But you can't overlay a picture from your gallery. It uses the last picture you took as an overlay for your next picture.
So does any app out there exists that will work or me?
anyone?
Hi Jsan133,
I am interested in an app you described too. have you succeed to find any? it looks like there is nothing like tat in app store.
Ditto this post.
Does anyone know of an app?
When we click photos using our camera and click the pick icon it opens Google Photos. Is there any way to change it? To open that pic in other gallery?
You can try to go into the "app info" screen for the Photo's app and doing a "Clear Default".
But I'm thinking that Google might have hard coded the link to their own photo's app from within the camera app, so if the above setting doesn't fix it, then I don't think anything can.

Yeah the ''clear default' is greyed out. So maybe yes its hard coded :/
The camera preview doesn't actually take you to another app.
It might leverage code from another app or it might just look like it does.
You probably can't change it without changing the camera app itself.
I think this has been the case for all Android phones I've had.

Is it an option for you to disable the Google photos app?
I think when I did that on my last phone it just didn't do camera previews but the gallery app I had still worked.
