Pros:
- rapidly charges Nexus 6P without issue (peak current of 2920mA according to Ampere) while using Choetech USB C cable
- packaging is mostly recyclable (except the polymer pouch)
- supports QC 2.0 tech (which I couldn't test because I don't have any devices to utilize this function)
Cons:
- charger heats up to 141*F whole charging the 6p, whole the Google brick only heats up to 94*F under the same conditions
Other thoughts:
- size is SLIGHTLY larger than the included Nexus 6P charging brick (see pics)
Would I buy it again: absolutely

How hot does it get when charging? I just got mine and have noticed it gets really hot when charging. Much hotter than the OEM charger. Also, with the 2m c to c cable they make I have only seen a max of about 1850ma when the OEM charger was pulling 2950ma when I switched to it to see. Is it possible I got a bad unit?

I definitely had closer to 3A charge rate with their 2m cable. I never noticed if it overheats or not. I'll charge my phone later tonight for half an hour and see if it heats up and report back

OK. I'm thinking maybe something is up with the one I got? I have their 2 meter cable and got no where near 3A. Did yours come with a cable? Mine had only a charger in the box. Thanks!

Charger and cable were separate items. I also use the 2m cable
Edit: charged the phone with Choetech charger and Choetech 2m cable from 6% up to 33%. Charging brick had a temperature of 141*F according to a handheld IR thermometer.
Edit 2: Charging with Google brick and Choetech 2m cable from 33%to 67%. Charging brick had a temperature of 94*F according to a handheld IR thermometer.

Indeed it's a significant difference in temperature. I didn't put it under cons since the temperature wasn't scathingly hot, but worth noting. However, I've decided that the Choetech will be my back up charger, and the Google brick will remain the one used more often.

I also received this charger along with both types of cables.
They work great! No temp issues at all, and this charger doesn't slow my phone to a crawl while charging like the OEM one does.
Honestly this is a great deal and a much nicer price point then the stock charger, and I prefer using it. Nice to see that inexpensive doesn't always mean cheap.
The actual female Type C plug feels cheap. You can hear something flexing when inserting it. It works though, will be a spare travel charger.
I reached out to the rep about the heating issue. I was basically told it's nothing more than a defective unit, as I was told that there is built in overheat protection.
Will update OP again when new unit arrives, again with temperature readings.

That's also been on the back of my mind. But my rational for still using it is that the phone is the one that requests a charge from the brick, instead of the brick sending whatever charge it wants. My background for how these chargers work is extremely rudimentary compared to what's floating around in the USB C thread, but I'd think any device that inappropriately received 9v (QC 2.0) would have fried by now.

I got this charger to test and it performs identically to the stock charger for me. I got it with some CHOETECH cables as well and the performance was on par with what I got from stock cable and charger. I got a 6 foot type c cable so I could get a little more reach and while I was successful on that front, the cable matters 6 foot cable in question did charge slower than shorter cables. This has been my experience with most 6 foot and longer cables, not just with type c but usb in general. I usually charge over night so it's not much of a hassle. On the days I may need a quicker top up however, I just use the CHOETECH charger and cable or stock charger and cable, whichever I'm closest to!
Choetech USB C review
Let me preface this review with the statement that the adapter and usb c cable were given to me for free for the purposes of the review. That being said, I’m not going to say this thing is great, if it isn’t and waste your money.
Now. On to the review
Choetech sent me a usb type c cable, and a fast charge adapter. The adapter model number is TC0001. I don’t recall the model number of the cable itself, and I left the packaging at home (I’m a truck driver). But it’s a standard 6 ft usb c to usb c cable. The short version of this review is that it works exactly as advertised. I didn’t get a chance to try it with an auxiliary input cord, since I didn’t have a chance to hit a Walmart or best buy. But, I’ve tried both in every other combination.
Cord with stock charger, cord with choetech charger, choetech charger with stock cord. All of this was on a Nexus 5x (my only usb c device), and they all worked almost identically. The combo of the choetech cord and charger took about 15 minutes longer to charge from 4% than the stock setup from 4%. But, I was also driving, and listening to a podcast, whereas I was still and sleeping on the stock setup. So, I’m pretty sure in a apples to apples setup they would’ve been perfectly matched
Fit and finish
I am HARD on electronics. There’s no way around it. Between crap falling off my bunk, or table because I forget to secure it, or just the vibrations of the truck, or whatever. My stuff gets beat up. I can’t give you a longterm review on this thing. But, after 3 weeks of usage, every day, I’ll say that the charger looks exactly the same as when it came out of the box. The cable doesn’t show any frays or nicks or crimps, and the whole assembly still works just as well as before. I’ll say that the connection for the port seems to be a touch looser. But, that’s not to say it’s loose at all. More like the newness has worn off so that it’s not so tight. I still get that satisfying ‘click’, and I can still dangle my phone by the cord, if I really want to. No. I don’t recommend that test.
The phone itself is just fine, while charging. No overheating, no performance lag (outside of the normal stuff you get with the 5x… please google, fix it?). it shows the ‘charging rapidly’ message on the lockscreen, if you need that to get your warm and fuzzy, as well.
All in all, thus far, I’ve not used my stock charger in 2 weeks. And, if you gave me a blind test based solely on charging performance, I’m not sure I could tell you the difference.
A note of caution. I don’t have a usb c – usb a adapter, so I haven’t had a chance to use this thing in a data transfer or adb/fastboot command situation. Since you should always be using the stock cord for the latter, anyway, I’m not too worried about that. But I did want to let you know about the unknowns regarding transferring files.
My only concern (and this is why I wanted to test the insulation with an aux input cord) is the fact that you can feel the wires under the external sheathing. It’s not ridiculously obvious, and it doesn’t make me worry anything is going to get exposed just by rubbing the cord across a corner. But you can feel it, which means that people who charge and listen to music in their car might have issues. I simply don’t know.

After doing a few weeks of testing with the latest Choetech Type-C to C *9.9ft(3M) cable and the Type-C 2.0 rapid travel charger, I think it's time I say a few words about them.
From my first impressions I was like wow this cable is super long. *Which could be a good or bad thing. I've been using stock cables for all my devices for a long time, and they have all been 3 to 4ft long. Which in today's world not long enough and not really logical if you need to have it behind a desk or while using it.
But anyways the cable is very nice and it actually snaps into my Nexus 6p. You can literally hang your *device from the cable without it falling to the ground. I tested the cable with CheckR app and it is approved and never had a issue charging my precious Nexus.
*Now for the charger not much I can say about it except that it just works. Charges my device from 5% to 100 in just over a hour. My Nexus says its charging rapidly on the lock screen. I have noticed sometimes when the charger is working really hard it makes a slight buzzing sound. But once the device gets to a certain percentage it stops. Now this isn't all the time just every so often. But it never effected charging. I highly recommend you all purchase these two products. You won't be dissatisfied.

How did you use CheckR with a USB C cable? Far as I know, CheckR is strictly to test if a USB A-C cable has the correct resistors in place.

When you open the CheckR app, there is an "i" symbol next to the donation symbols at the top. Clicking on that reveals a pop up that states the app is strictly for use with USB A-C cables. I'm aware you can still plug the cable into a USB C pc port, but my point is that it's a redundant test since the app isn't made for a USB C-C cable

So I was looking for a longer USB C to USB C cable. And found this one on Amazon.

It took ages to arrive but seemed like a reasonably decent quality cable. Does everything it should and I like the connectors and braided cable.
However it won't charge the phone nearly as fast as the stock cable / charger combo. That seems to charge at around 2700-2800mA.
This cable seems to top out at 1700mA.
I'm not sure if the length of the cable is a factor but I've contacted the seller to see what they say.
Moral of the story / topic - avoid this cable if you want guaranteed 3amp charging.
Give this a read. I personally just purchased the iOrange-E cable.

I used an app called ampere to show the charging rates.
I concur with OPs findings. Using this cable with the stock charger only gives medium speed charging. The phone will not report chatging rapidly. (Im using nexus 5x). I guess it's fine for me because I do overnight charging but needed the longer length, and in a pinch I sub in the stock white cable for a quick battery boost.
I do miss not having qi, that is my ideal bedroom charger.

I'm not too worried its a decent cable and 2m long so does the job.
I have this cable and it works find for me. Build quality is excellent and it charges me to 100% from 20 of 30% in about an hour and a half(ish).

That's the exact model I received.
Pros:
- Build quality: it's housed partially in plastic and aluminum. The Aluminum is nicely chamfered, similar to how the Nexus 6P looks
- Tactile and audible "click" when connecting to the phone's USB C port
- Net current of 2860mA via Ampere (this was averaged between a few tests while the phone was at 50% battery life)
- Fits very snugly into the 12V socket of my car; no wobbling whatsoever
- additional legacy USB port to charge an additional device
- packaging was very simple and frustration free
- charging head is slimmer than the stock 6P cable's head; this one doesn't interfere with my Poetic Affinity case in anyway at all, while the stock cable does.
- charges another device simultaneously via legacy USB (nexus 6p received 2860mA while legacy USB device [nexus 7] received 1330mA)
Cons:
- None that I can think of right now
Would I buy this again (or actually pay for it next time): without a doubt

Would love to see Benson test this one, or someone else with the required tools to ensure it is charging correctly and safely.
I preordered this when it was $12. I can confirm rapid charging, however when another device is charging from the USB port the Type C only gets 1.5 amp draw. If no other device is charging you get up to the full 3 amp depending on charge level.

Sammaul, how long ago was yours ordered? I recall another amazon review that said the same thing as you. However, I tested earlier with different results. The 6p continued to charge at close to 3A, while the nexus 7 charged at a bit over 1300mA. I did this whole the 6p was at 72%and the nexus 7 at 85%. Not sure if the nexus 7 being relatively close to full charge affected my results. There's also a possibility that the device has updated hardware that allows for full rapid charging while simultaneously charging. Just a possibility.
Anyhow, off to vacation! Maybe I'll get a chance to update again once I return.

According to the page it outputs 5V at 1A, definitely not fast charging... but I really wouldn't expect that on something like this.
I used to have a similar style micro USB QI charger I used in the past and it worked fine on my Micro USB devices.
For me quick charging is more important to me than the convenience of wireless charging. Unless you plan to use wireless charging exclusively I find having to take off and put on the adapter often a hassle.
Still nice find for those that really want wireless charging.

Don't know if this is even possible, but it would be perfect if there was one of these qi receivers with USB C that had a kind of pass through USB C plug, so that you could have the qi receiver plugged into the phone, but still be able to plug in a USB C cable from the wall when you want the faster charger.

That wouldn't be possible without breaking the USB spec, and making it really bulky. These little qi receivers are easy to unplug, so that shouldn't be a big concern.

What about if you were to stick the qi receiver to the back of the phone and then put a case on over the phone and receiver, can you still unplug it fairly easily when you want to use the USB wall charger?

That's what I was implying rather than using a pass through. There's still a possibility the receiver will not work if directly touching the phone depending on how it's made, so once it can be confirmed working that should be fine.

Oh ok. I may go ahead and order one and give it a try. I just thought maybe with a case on over it, that the case may pinch the cable of the receiver and not allow you to be able to unplug it from the phones USB port without removing the case first (which would be a pain).

I might order one too since I have a plethora of wireless chargers for my S7 Edge. I'm hoping they made it correctly so it can be in direct contact with the phone (I.e. jts shielded correctly)
I have a bunch of chargers as well from my s6. So excited to get this and use them again.

OK so got mine today and works as advertised. Tonight will be the first night to test. It's slower that's for sure when it comes to charging. The nub that plugs in isn't too big, which is nice. Takes some getting used to.
If you got time on your hands and have a wireless charge handy all the times then I would recommend this. If you dont have time then stick with usb c charging ad it's faster.

Doesn't heat up, at least not that I have observed. I am using a tpu case. The fosmon cases and not an issue at all with charging.

I've got my receiver and it looks pretty good. The plug is a bit thicker than I expected, but then it seems very sturdy. Unfortunately I don't have the actual handset yet so still waiting to use it. Hopefully it will slot in nicely behind a Diztronic case.

A while back I won a Choetech wall type C wall charger through XDA and Choetech. Those looking for an additional wall charger for their Nexus 6P or 5X should look no further. This one performs just as well as the original OEM version from Huawei. Came well packed in a small, sturdy cardboard box. Compact form factor makes it easy to carry around if you want to. My only wish is that it came with a cable but I can't quibble since I got the charger for free. Have been using it regularly for the last couple of months with no issues at all. Current Amazon price is $13.99

Just purchased 2 off amazon with USB to type C cables for 14.99.just make sure you pick the one with the Type C end cuz you can also get the micro USB if you don't choose...so far charge my phone fast as heck...

Choetech 29W USB-C Power Delivery (PD) Fast Charger
Good decided to change their charging spec again this year in a good way. The Pixel/Pixel XL now properly support USB PD over both 5V and now 9V as you can see by the included charger with both phones. Last year’s Nexus 5X/6P only supported 5V/3A i.e. 15W, but this year Google bumped it up to 18W which in theory will give you more efficient charging at a faster rate due to the reduction of heat at higher voltages.
Choetech made a USB-C PD charger that supports a broad range of USB-C compatible devices, none of which I own aside from the Pixel XL since the Nexus 6P seems to be picky about what fast charges it and what doesn’t.

The charger has more of a dual tone/texture with a smoother plastic on the bottom rim, and a textured one everywhere else. One thing that is hard to miss is the physical size of this charger; it dwarfs Google’s stock one, and even some other multiport chargers. This could be due to the tech required for a 29W charger, although I’m not exactly sure why it’s so large with only a single USB-C Port.
On the front you will of course find the USB-C port, and above it a subtle blue charging LED. As we turn to the back there is a handy fold away 2-prong wall plug that should be convenient if you travel a lot.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a way to really test the voltages like I did for previous phones because the USB-C PD spec makes it difficult. I know there is a way to check the voltages via a USB-PD power sniffer, yet I wasn’t about to spend ~$300+ on something that I wouldn’t use that often.
Here is the rated charging output:
5V/3A
9V/2A
14.5V/2A
Overall this charger works as it should, and despite its large size it would still be great for travel/bringing to work due to the folding plug in the back.
Choetech USB A-C Braided Cable 3-Pack
Last year we had to deal with non-compliant USB A-C cables everywhere in addition to a wider adoption of the USB-C spec for phones. Now, the majority of companies are on board, and meeting the USB spec thanks to Benson Leung.
I purchased a figurative ton of cables last year in an attempt to replace my then irrelevant Micro USB cables. I spent a good amount of money and time finding quality cables which at the time were very expensive. Choetech sent me a 3 pack of braided USB A-C cables that are nearly identical in quality to the i-Orange ones I paid $12-18 for each last year, yet now you can get a 3 pack for the price of just one cable.
Braided cables looks better, are generally more durable/expensive than your traditional USB-C cable. The ones I was sent feature a metal housing that feels solid, and looks great. I tested all 3 cables with a multimeter to ensure they were allowing the proper current to be pulled i.e. they have a 56K ohm-m resistor which is what Benson Leung checks for.
Choetech USB-C (2.0) Cable 2 Pack
If you want to rapidly charge (fast charge/quick charge) your Pixel/Pixel XL, then you need to use a USB C-C cable. This 2-pack contains both a 2[m], and 1[m] USB C-C cable that both allow your Pixel to quick charge on both the stock charger, and 29W one that Choetech also offers. I verified that rapid charging shows up on my phone no matter which cable I use (Choetech, or OEM Google) as they should. The only downside I can find is these only support USB 2.0 data transfer speeds not 3.0 which is fine because most people don’t have a USB-C port on their laptop/PC. These cables aren’t braided like the USB A-C ones, but they still feel nice. I’ve actually owned a number of these dating back to the early days of my Nexus 6P, and they have held up well over time. None of my cables have frayed, broken, or otherwise had issues over the past year. These cables are premium in the sense that they will last a long time despite not looking as nice as some other offerings. I keep one of these and a variety of cables, chargers, and adapters with me in my work bag just in case I might need one during the day, or when I’m out in the field.
Choetech USB C-A Adapter
USB C-A adapters aren’t the most common things you might need, yet they’re still very useful if you need to plug a flash drive into your phone, or another peripheral.
Choetech sells a small 3-Pack of these adapters which come in gold, blue, and black. Personally I prefer a more subtle color like black, although having a choice between colors can be refreshing. Each adapter is made in such a way that it should work with most cases. I was able to use it on my Nexus 6P with a Spigen Rugged Armor case, but it wouldn’t fit in my Pixel XL’s Speck Presidio (YMMV).
Both of my phones were able to instantly recognize any flash drive I plugged into them via these adapters unlike some of the earlier ones (I own one that’s very picky) that were very inconsistent. I then decided to test one of these USB C-A adapters on my desktop since my motherboard has a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port. I was able to plug my flash drive into the adapter, and use it without any problems (see pictures below).
Overall these adapters are more of a convenience than a necessity for most people, but it’s always good to be prepared. If you do get one, Choetech makes a strong case with their nice metal compact package.

I've been using the Motorola Turbo Charger and it charges the Pixel far faster than the included Pixel charger.

I find that hard to believe for a variety of reasons. First you're using an A-C cable which limits you to 1.5A charging i.e. 7.5WSecondly the included pixel charged will outputs 18W in phases so it will push 9V/2Aor 5V/3A depending in what the phone is requesting from it via PD.
I have a Motorola Turbo charger so I can easily prove my point with really data if need be.

I doubt this as well. Unless you have real data, I wouldn't be making these claims. Simply seeing "charging rapidly" is NOT indicative of ANYTHING. I have gotten this message to occur falsely before with chargers.

I got this 29W PD charger and charged my Pixel XL rapidly. I hope I can get a USB C amperemeter to get some real data.
Any recommendations on a car charger that will fast charge the pixel as well as the 6p

Just got THIS and it works wonderfully.
Also bought the 1 usb-c + 2 usb a version of the Choetech charger above (kobo, watch, phone) and it, too, works perfectly.

Get a USB Doctor or USB Ampere Sleeve, they are kinda cheap and work well. Let us know how well it works and if you can compare it to the stock one would be awesome. The Review doesn't say much about how well it works..
Edit; they only cost ~$5 and work great, the oled gives the best readout

Nope but my wife said my a Turbo Charger started making a whistling noise last night while charging my Note 7 so.... lol... I'll get a new charger with my S7 Edge

I just ordered a Turbo 30 off Verizon site, it's 50% off, it's USB C and says it is Power Delivery compliant. For only $20, it's worth a try.
