[Q] How to launch deployed app - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I deployed an app.
It works fine. It's seen by Program Manager, but I would prefer it to be shown between the apps (even not as tile), but I don't seem to find a way to do it. Is there any way to do it?
+ if someone is generous enough to answerthis question too: XAP Deployer - how to use it, as I don;t know how to put .xap file to my device?

PDF & DOC attachments

Did a search, so sorry if I missed it. But, a couple of questions.
1) If you have root, is it possible to download and save PDF and Word files that come in on POP3 (or even gmail) email?
2) Otherwise, does anyone know the phone folder where these files are temporarily store while on the phone, and can they be accessed that way?
I spend a lot of time overseas, and going back and forth to the web to retrieve is a pain and expensive. Thanks
Forget it, I solved the issue.
Informing use how you solved the issue might help others
I'd be really interested in how you managed this, I've searched here, and Googled everywhere (almost). But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

lol...gotta love these types of posts right?
I'm able to save attachments like this using k-9 mail., for those interested
Sorry to go AWOL -- had to leave the country for a bit. My apologies.
Yeah, I also "solved" it by using K9. But, I find the program very buggie.
On a larger, related question, how does the Android platform make its file associations? In other words, when I receive an email attachment (with the stock app), it will allow me to download and save that attachment to my SD card only if there is an onboard, associated program. I can download .jpg, because Android has an application built in that will read a jpg. So, if I want to download a .doc file, I can't unless there is an appropriate app onboard. (Although k9 seems to have found a way). Where, in the Android platform, is this association made? And, is it possible (with a rooted phone) to somehow manipulate those associations to allow downloading of ANY (or a chosen few) files?
For instance, I find that if I change the file extension on a Word doc (for example) from "doc" to "jpg", my onboard email will allow me to download and save to SD card. So, it obviously CAN do it, what's stopping it?
Again, sorry for "skipping out" in the midst of a thread.
Download Crutch Lite in the market allows you to download any file by making Android believe it can open any filetype.
Theres a app called download crutch on the market that allows downloading of files that may not have associated applications. Not exactly sure what file types it supports but its worth a shot.
EDIT: Fushichou got it before me but heres a link to Cyrket http://www.cyrket.com/search?q=download+crutch
Thanks, but my experience is that Crutch will not work on email attachments. It seems to be an internet based device. I used it for a while. Partially, this is a kind of tech question -- how are the files associated?

running custom executable from zip files on wp7

I am trying to run a custom executable on my schubert. I can send the file to my email as a zip and then open it. Wp7 gives a warning saying 'do you want to run the executable' I click 'yes' but nothing really happens.
can we convert a silverlight xap file which is actually a zip file into an exeutable and run it?
Also is it possible to depoly an app from within the phone?
There are efforts underway to either run native apps (EXEs) or to install apps (from XAP files) on the phone itself. Currently, I don't think either is possible. Feel free to lend a hand, though. A little searching on the forum will turn up the relevant threads, but I know that a lot of work has been discussed in the DllImport Project thread on this sub-forum.
People have been able to make native apps, but they are DLL's, not EXE's. TouchExplorer/TouchXperience/a few registry editors, File Explorers are all Native. Although there a problem with native Apps & the Multitasking Registry Hack. Once one Native app is loaded, no other will start up unless you restart.

[Q] Pull a XAP off a phone?

Is there a way to pull XAPs off of your phone? I'd like to pull a few apps with ugly icons off and edit their icons (it's fairly easy, I've done it before with stuff off of XDA).
... people keep asking this. The reasons vary but the question has been asked a lot.
The phone doesn't even store the XAP files, so no. It's like asking if you can get the "setup.exe" out of somebody's copy of a PC game.
However, the files in the XAP, and for your particular case the images in the XAP, are unpacked onto the phone's filesystem in \Applications\Install\<APP_GUID>\Install\. You can use an app like WP7 Root Tools to access them. I can't promise it'll work with marketplace apps (the binaries, at least, are signed and the signatures are checked every time the app is loaded) but it's quite possible there are no hash checks on content files.
Advanced Config allows you to change the icons for any app. If it's a free app there is a program floating around here that allows you to download the xaps to your computer from the marketplace then you can use winrar or whatever zip program you want and replace the app icon.

[Q] Repacking .XAP on the phone

Hi
I have big problem with wp7 PC Softwares like 7market OR ezDeploy because it doesnt run on my pc
Now,is there any way to repack apps in the phone (like in File Explorer) ??
It's not really practical at all, no. One app can't (legitimately, without hacks or a custom ROM) access the filesystem enough read another app's install location. Rebuilding a XAP file (assuming you can access the install directory) is theoretically possible, but I'm having a hard time seeing many legitimate reasons to do so.
Thanks 4 your answer my friend
But how Private Marketplace repacking after download the app???
XAP files are just ZIP archives; they're easy to unpack, modify, and repack. As I said, you *could* re-create them from the install location (you'd have a to tweak a few things, but it woulnd't be that hard).
As for "Private Marketplace", I'm not familiar with this tool but, from your description, it sounds like it downloads the marketplace XAP from Microsoft's servers, then repackages it so it can be sideloaded. That's interesting (and potentially sketchy, but I'll assume these are only free apps) but I don't see what it has to do with repackaging XAPs on the phone.
What is your goal, here?
By the way, the "re-package a XAP on the phone" thing has come up several times before. Please use Search before posting.

[Q] need help getting files from xap

I used to have an HD7 then upgraded to the Galaxy s3 there way an app I loved on the HD7 (Burglar Alarm Sentry Bot) by (AEON) and cannot get it on the android market at all. I have downloaded the app from the windows market place onto my pc as an xap file and I have found similar apps to the one this one but none have the same sound effects that I want like this one does. Is there anyone who could extract the sound files from this xap or get me the sound files? I would really really appreciate it very much... I have looked everywhere and tried all kinds of programs but I am not that advanced in this area.

In order to get that information, you would have to have the uncompiled source, not the compile XAP file
even if it's a larger file

I was reading that a xap file was just a zip file of sorts and the file I downloaded was 18mb which seems like it would be more than enough to hold a handful of sound files plus whatever else it needs to run it I thought at least. am I wrong on that?
also if I were to install the app on a windows phone again is there a way I could locate the files and get them off possibly? without having to root and jailbreak the phone?
