Battery drains 100 to 0 in 2~3 hours.
It occurs even sitting in idle and my spare battery shows the same problem.
I've flashed cm7, cm9, and stock roms but the problem still persists.
I have no idea whether it is a hardware issue, or RIL&baseband related.
switched off GPS, wifi, and auto-sync, lowered backscreen light to 25%
downclocked cpu to 245
battery calibration
battery saving apps
fix50
factory reset
Nothing could solve the problem... any help?

So your saying that even with a fresh install (no apps installed) you're having the same problem? The android system seems to be consuming a lot of battery, normally its around 2 to 3%. Do you have an SD card? have you tried scanning it for viruses? Or may be you could try installing an antivirus just to be sure and put your device and sd through a full scan.

thanks for reply. havn't thought about virus. now i'm trying full scan. hope this work.
After all these following tests, the problem still persists and now I think it is related to mechanical issue..
I will try to contact HTC reps.. Thanks for your advice anyway.
I have the same problem

android system on my htc chacha is using something like 48%, I charge my phone three times a day, was ur problem related to a virus or something? I try not to buy a antivirus since it costs too much and also I believe it drains much more battery than android system..

I doubt whether a hardware problem could be the cause, android system should not consume so much battery in any case. Did you wipe all data, cache and dalvik cache when you installed the custom roms?
I didn't install a custom rom, the only thing that I did was S-off and rooting the phone, could it have caused this issue?

You said in your first post that you have flashed cm7 and cm9 and I am guessing you must have done it using clockwork recovery. I am a little confused now. Did you factory reset the device?

I did factory reset more than ten times.
Actually, this battery issue has started to happen since I flashed cm9. At first, I thought this came from mismatched RIL & baseband.
(Note : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549488)
Sadly GetRIL doesn't support chacha, so I just flashed back to the one I used before - with full wipe - but it couldn't resolve the issue.
The last thing I could think of was flashing back to stock rom and I followed this guide.
(Note : http://androidforums.com/chacha-all...lash-back-stock-rom-chacha-please-sticky.html)
I agree that it is strange Android System process eats too much of battery, but I couldn't find any errors from it when I checked the process log.
Are you sure there is nothing wrong with your actually battery? try getting a replacement and see if that helps.
To me android system consumes the same amount and I have like 5 hours full use(e.g. browsing + 3G) , I believe there might be a problem with ur own battery, try replacing it and see whether it works for u or not

I have two brand new batteries and both of them have the same issue.
Today one of HTC tech reps told me they checked my cell and found a problem with mainboard. They will replace it.

Hello,
I know such tread were posted several time before and i read all of them but i did not find any solutions to my problem. My battery drain is really bad with stock battery, Anker battery, Mugen and others.
Battery darins like 1% per minute or 5 minutes even if Data,Wifi,Sync are off and i the phone not used at all.
So far i have tried the following:
1) Installing different ROMs (I even tried installing the ROMs and not adding any new applications and not modifying any settings to see if it is a problem with an app i have or ROM). So i flash a ROM and leave it as it is, without isntalling anything, but battery drain is still very bad
2) I have tried calibrating (charging 100% and wiping stats) several times
3) I have tried different batteries including Mugen and Anker.
4) I tried those all together several times..
5) I have tried better Battery stats and battery widget to check whats wrong but did not find anything unusual.
6) i have tired to charge my battery longer than ususal (to make sure it is 100%)
battery Usage says 89% of battery is used by Android OS
I suspect this might be a hardware problem but how can i check this? and is it possible to fix? Maybe i should go to recovery and check how long does it take for the battery to go from 100% to say 5% ? but i need some figures to compare with.
so my questions are:
A) Did anyone have similar problems? if yes were you able to fix ?
B) How can i check if there is a hardware problem with my battery connection or something else that might cause battery drain
C) Can anyone let me know how long does it take for the battery to go from 100% to 5% (or 10% or 20%) if the phone is all the time in recovery mode?
D) Can the charger be the problem? I am using stadard Sensation charger..
Any help and advice will be highly appreciated
Thank you
I don't know how long it takes for the battery to go from 100 to 5% in recovery but I've forgotten my phone at home and not plugged in the charger and it has lasted all day.
Do you just test right after the installation of a rom? My battery usually drains fast after I flash a new rom but I'll let it go from full to dead then charge it overnight and the battery will last way longer after that charge.

do you use Titanium Backup? if so, find the app called "Google Backup Transport" and back it up real quick. then delete it, reboot into recovery and wipe dalvik + cache. then reboot the phone to see if that helps.(wait 2-3 days) back on the MT4G there was an issue where that app caused the Android OS to use a lot of the battery, might work here too in your case.
Hello,
I am still having the problem with my battery drain. I have tried finding Google Backup in Titanium Backup but it was not listed.
However, checking the battery use Android OS takes more that 85%...
I have installed another ROM.
Android OS now disappeared compltely. and it is Cell Standby that is eating all the juice now... But the battery drain is the same. I think the battary Usage indicator does not give any usefull information on what is using the battery..
But the bettery is getting quite warm... and continues to discharge. I just charged to 100% and went asleep. When I woke up next day after 8 hours I onli had 20% of battery remained... WiFi, Data, GPS were switched off.

what rom do you have installed now? if your problems keeps happening after switching roms, theres probably 1 of 2 problems. Bad battery (Im canceling this out because you said youve used multiple batteries) or a rogue app that is running in the background, killing your battery
also, have you tried formatting your SD card? save all the important stuff and try formatting it, then transfer all the data you saved back to the card
You should try changing your charger. Once I bought a new charger from ebay and I had a lot of probs, the phone took forever to charge, it got hot when charging, the battery would hold less charge.
I suggest you try deleting system, cache, userdata, boot with fastboot commander. Here The instructions to use it:
-download tool
-unpack zip and click on .exe application (is a stand alone app, so you have to click and confirm installation, that's all!)
-open tool
-put DHD in "Fastboot Mode"
-plug it to your pc usb
-Wait for "print of device succesfull"--(if fails, check your sdk driver)
-here you go to "misc"
-select: erase partitions (system, cache, userdata, boot) Don't select recovery
-click on "Erase chosen partition"--
-Done
-manually reboot dhd to recovery
-don't care about error message like E:/can't found recovery log" or something like this.
(It's just recovery wich telling you that partitions are not mounted!)
-So wipe data factory reset to re-mount partitions, otherwise you can't flash anything!
-now flash your rom
this way you are sure that your phone is completely wiped! And when I said completely I mean COMPLETELY!! (except for recovery)
This tool is very useful to solves strange issues that a normal wipe cannot solve! Sometimes happen
Last but not least you could try updating your recovery to the latest version.
Hope you solve your problems:good:
Hello,
1) Yes i tried 3-4 different batteries. Is it possible they all are damaged? By say damaged charger?
2) As for charger, will USB charger work fine (connected to PC) ? Currently I am using the wall charger, but i do not have a sapre one to try.
3) I will try to wipe everything using the tool provided. Thank you.....
I think I already have latest recovery.
P.S currently I am swothching between MIUI roms, but i had ARHD and other roms before that with smae problem...
Do you spend a lot of time in an area with bad cell reception? If so it will spend a lot of battery constantly trying to ping a cell tower.

If you want you can try using my combination of rom/kernel, you can find them in my signature, I myself had battery problems, but with my Anker and this configuration I get 24 hours of medium usage. Yes the USB charger will do the job and just check if your wall charger has the right output voltage (5v).
Another thing you could do is download this app from Playstore Battery Monitor Widget. It shows the current mA drain/charge.If you see that battery drain is strangely high (example 200mA in standby than your problem isn't the battery/charger. I get a drainage of 3-10mA in standby, which is pretty good. Good luck finding the couprit:good:
Thank you all for your advice!
1) as for ROM i do not think any other ROM/Kernel is going to make a difference. I tried to many of them by now. And I do not think ANY rom is so bad to drain 10-15% per hour while phone is not in use
2) i tried different SD cards and tried pulling out the SD completely, so it should not be the case...
3) I am in good reception area. In fact the phone used to work just fine in the same area when i just bought it... but then something went wrong (cannot find what)
4) If it is an application - than should be something inbuilt in the ROM. because I have tried installin ROM and keeping it clean without installing anything at all. not even changing settings... but the problem was still there...
and 5) I am using Battery Monitor Widget and it is between -35mA and -75mA.
Seems too much but I still cannot find the cause..
IT seems that i also have this issue!!!
using 2 sense 4 roms and my battery usage never ever come down to -40mA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can not find culprit yet...
really annoying
I have learned a lot about my device since i bought it. The only thing I cannot figure out is the details about the Radio, and which one is the best for me. Can it be that the problems with battery are caused by radio?
What are three best radios to use with JB MIUI Member's choice and othe MIUI Roms?
Thanks
It seems like it was Radio after all.
I have checked my version and it was displayed as N/A instead of 11.68
so i reinstalled the radio and it seems like the problem is solved. at least today i have no problems. I will see if it will be fine tommorow and thereafter..

hmm thats weird? has your data connection gotten any better after changing radios, or is it still the same? good to hear you fixed the battery drain
Hello,
not the connection 3g, data. wi-fi works just as it used to work - just fine. The only thing that changed is that the battery does not die within few hours.
in standby - i have now easily more than 24 hours....
It seems liek the problem is back again. I did not isntall anything new or changed any settings. but suddenly i woke up with 40% of battery on my phone istead of 100%..
it really start to irritate me. There is nothin i mgiht have done to cause this. But the phone is noticabely warmer when it eats the battery for no reason....
Android OS is responsible for 83% of battery drain. While battery life was OK it only had 2-3%...
PS
Today i lost 60% of battery (from 100% to 40%) while sleeping and my phone not used.

Try installing CPU Spy from Play Store and see if the phone is in deep sleep while not being used. Although this tool doesn't give a lot of information, but at least the 1st thing we can see from this tool is whether the CPU is put into deep sleep while the phone is sleeping. Losing 60% while sleeping is very likely that the CPU didn't go into deep sleep state. So this tool should give you some indication. If the CPU ever goes into deep sleep, you'll see the Deep Sleep entry below 192Mhz.
Hi,
My phone is almost not charging full or it doesn't show as such.
This is detailed breakup of my issue :
I put phone at charging exactly at 2pm at 2%
3pm it was at 36%
4pm it was 54%
5pm it was at 64%
6pm it was at 73%
7pm it was at 82%
7:30pm it was at 84%
after this I removed phone from charging and rebooted it. Surprisingly it showed 100%.
Battery doesn't last more than 12hrs no matter what I do. I am using Greenify too.
BT, GPS, Auto-Sync, 3G, etc all are off. WiFi On 24hrs.
Screen-off battery drain is also around 8-9% per hour.
Can I do/try something on software side before I order a new battery ?
Right now I am on Carbon ROM (20131008) with stock kernel, 1512, Ondemand, SIO, No OC. Its same on every ROM I tried except seemingly on ARHD 7.3 (used it less than 24hrs. Its rock solid and smooth.)
I would greatly appreciate any help/advice !
I also has this issue still looking for the solution

this is a rom issue i think as this has also happened to many people and and this happens after many days on a single rom (and u make the rom unstable)
the solution is simple just backup ur data and full wipe and flash rom again and u will be good to do for next many days (if u keep the rom stable)
I flash ROM almost every alternative day and I always do Full-Wipe

Battery Kernel issue
I am new to xda. I actually flashed a new rom after that phone doesn't charge after switching off. Could it be a kernel issue or the rom's issue. I have a Canvas HD. And sorry if this is not the place to ask the question. I couldn't find any other thread related to this. Please help.
Similar issue here. My charging often stops at about 80%, but after a reboot the battery's full charged.
My battery also gets drained very fast, but it's about 2,5 years old so that's probably the problem.
With the CPU clock speed @1,5GHz and the GPU @266MHz i get about 15h +/-2h of battery life.
I keep battery saving ON most of the time. Bluetooth, GPS, 3G etc all OFF. WiFi ON for about 1-2h per day (if i would keep it on longer, my phone would be dead in 4-5h).
I'm using ViperS 5.2.1 right now (full wiped before install). I got the same experience on ARHD and previous ViperS versions.
Tested the charger - it's fine.
I was wondering if anybody else got an old battery like mine and how long does it last on full charge
Hi guys,
I have a HTC Sensation XE that i bought three days ago (second hand) and i have the same problem with the battery % not reading correctly.
Now this is what i observed:
- the charging is very slow - from 20% to 40% in 2-3 hours
- after 2-3 hours of charging if i reboot the phone the charging LED turns green and the battery reading says 100%.
(i tested to see if actually it got charged to 100% and it did, i turned everything on, watched a HD movie, played some games and after 5-6 hours of playing with it i still had 50%)
- tested the battery to see how fast it drains from 10% to shut down and it went on at full brightness and everything on for about an hour and something so this means there might not be any problems with the battery
- so the reading is wrong because the battery is charged after a few hours.
- i did a test to see if the same thing happens when the phone is off and i left it to charge for 2-3 hours and when i got back the charging LED was still orange. When i started the phone the LED went off and back on as green. The battery was 100% charged.
- If the same behavior happens in off mode it means it's not a ROM problem (by the way from what i know the phone is stock, the guy never did the rooting.....that's what he told me - can't know for sure).
- from my electronics background it seems the phone updates the battery information sometime at boottime. When charging, the software keeps the charging LED on because it's supposed to charge due to incorrect data but the hardware charging controller drops the charge current because the the battery is full. So this can be an incorrect sensor reading by the software or an incorrect feedback given by the hardware controller.
So what do you think, what can cause this.
Should i try rooting the device?
And i tried factory reset from android and factory reset from bootloader and the problem is still there.
Ok so i did the following:
- unlock the bootloader
- flashed CWM
- installed superuser
- wipe battery stats
- wipe device
- calibrate battery with an application from market
The problem is still there.
I figured that when in bootloader first thing you can read is the S-ON/S-OFF. Before doing the unlock it was "LOCKED" and after "UNLOCKED".
I did a relock and the status changed to "RELOCKED" so this means the guy that had the phone before me didn't root which again means the theory that says this problem occurs when the user tries to root the device is not true because it seems the behavior is observed on an unrooted device.
I will dig deeper maybe i find more ideas on what i can do.
I'm running out of software options so this is pointing at something hardware.
I'll get back with updates when i find something else.

probably it is htc's bug
the same happened to me after rooting the device
For now I will try to make some full cycles of the battery and see if anything changes. I usually use the phone at work and by the time I get home it's almost empty. Plug to charger and till morning it's full with a green light. I will have to monitor the charging times and get back with results.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA Free mobile app
Well i did some full charging cycles and nothing changed, still the same long charge time(read by the phone) and with restart it bounces to 100%.
I had the original Android 4.0.3 with Htc Sense 3.6 at the time. Got 4EXT recovery and an 4.0.4 rom with Htc Sense 4.1. Did a full wipe and battery stats , installed the new 4.0.4 rom but the problem persists.
At this point i think the battery is the problem so the next thing to do is to change it. I will get back after i change it, hopefully sometime in november.
After a long time I managed to change the battery and after a few tests it seems the problem is still there. The time on battery improved as I expected but everything else is the same which means it's something hardware defective in the phone. Also did some tests with android 5.1 and the same results. Meantime I sold the phone and got a Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo. Hope this research gives some answers to someone at some point. Cheers.
Hey dudes i have been having this issue for some time but I feel fed up now...I am running CM 10.1 on the DHD and sometimes as I use this device my battery meter shows that I have used all the battery which prompts me to recharge...funny part is that mos times if i reboot i get the battery level back up to something like 35 - 50%; Now this is crazy since once I used a battery calibration app (free version) hoping to solve the issue but this issue never went away even after calibrating the batter with this app... I wonder if there is a way to solve this or maybe reset the battery or something...Thanks in advance
Maybe you should do a Wipe Battery Stats, From CWM
1. Charge 100% of Battery
2. Enter on CWM Recovery
3. Choose Advanced - Wipe Battery Stats
4. Reboot and leave your phone plugged for 15 min. then you can unplugg and use it
maybe this could resolve your problem:good:
I've noticed something similar on my DHD too. Sometimes the percentage can increase or decrease between reboots... A few times it's gone down really low, to say 11%, and stayed there until about the time it would actually be 11%! It's probably related to my battery being pretty old.
@manuelchef89 If I have understood correctly, what you have suggested happens automatically when you do a full charge anyway. Maybe someone who knows for sure could confirm.

Sometimes is a kernel problem, but you should wipe the battery stats
Take out your battery and see if your battery get any fatter than before, if it's bigger/fatter, your battery is dying.

probably it stops
i am not sure about that
edit: the point is the battery is increasing its percentage slower when it passes 60%-70%
but it charges the same
so if you reboot the device then it jumps at 90% or full charge

Is it known what causes this?
Someone above said "it is a htc's common issue after rooting". Is there any source on that? For all I know, percentage of charge of battery is determined by a combination of output voltage and amps, preferably referenced by a table taking battery age into account (correct me if I'm wrong though).
Rooting the device should not be an issue, unless HTC did something in their rom to detect this and let the battery percentage be wrong. Then again, most of us aren't on the stock rom. To be on another rom, the bootloader needs to be unlocked. Did HTC do something that unlocking the bootloader makes voltage/discharge readings unreliable? I doubt that...
I'm interested in this because I unlocked and flashed a Sensation XE for a friend of mine (SultanXDA's KitKat rom), but the battery discharges very, very fast, without an obvious cause. So I wonder whether it could be the battery is not fully charged and/or the phone decides it's empty to early.
"it is a htc's common issue after rooting"<- i said that
it was a source but i can't find it now
also i don't know if htc did something with unlocking the bootloader by purpose
if you flashed the rom recently don't judge the battery too early
give it 4-5 cyrcle charges until it settles down then see how it goes

I have exactly this problem.
It sounds like the same ROM, Saltan kit kat. I am using the latest kernal 3.4, having tried two kernals I get the same results. For example I charged the phone to full, and after 2 hours of use I'm down to 55%, WiFi on and browsing, gmail synced but not much else, screen brightness turned down etc.
I only flashed a couple days ago, will it improve massively over the next few days?
The phone was giving a days charge easily before flashing.
I am also noticing a message saying 'unfortunately process com.android.phone has stopped working' (or similar). When this happens and I click OK I notice the signal disappears for a few seconds before coming back. Could this be the cause of the problem?
Could it be he ROM?
I'm new to all this but managed to unlock, root, flash recovery, and flash the ROM thanks to the brilliant guides on XDA. Any help with the above would be appreciated.
Rob
i am facing the same problem , rather my problem is goes much further .
iam on stock ROM and not rooted my sensation. my device often restart automatically even when battery is about 90% or battery is 40% and it continue this from last 2-3 months.
and after restarting battery percentage is also changed, see attached pics.
i am tired of this rebooting , i observed that restaring is mostly when i connect to calls or text msgs.
can somebody pleeeeeeaase help me.

since you are completely stock then the only thing i can tell you is to check your battery if it fits correctly
also how old is it?

may be it is battery as i purchased from local market.
i have ordered new battery and soon will recive that . will let you know.
i have observed that mostly mobile got restart when i make/recieve calls and sms.

Does anyone have any ideas? Today the phone lasted around 12 hours but with minimal use which isn't really good enough. I thought rooting and flashing would improve battery life but so far I am disappointed. I may try another ROM tomorrow.
Rob
i'm try to buying new original batery but still same problem,
now i'm trying viver rom sc.5.1, with last Sebastian FM kernel

This really sounds like your battery, especially if it's not the original or equivalent. But, it could also be an app on the background, keeping your phone from "deep sleep". Bad cell coverage (very low signal) also drains your battery relatively quickly when you're on 3G. A good WiFi connection consumes less power than 3G with bad signal. Another possibility could be (but unlikely) is that your phone is intended for another region and thus having trouble communicating with the GSM network.
- Check your battery.
- Check what your battery is used for.
- Check your battery time with network set to GSM only.

Still you keep saying "after rooting" which is significantly different from unlocking the bootloader and flashing. Furthermore, to me it seems far more people report "better battery life" with their new roms.
About initially flashing the rom: i thought format of system, data and cache (including dalvik cache) ought to be enough. It has had somewhere between the 10 and 20 charge cycles by now. Battery life improved a little, but it's still far from acceptable. The battery percentage between reboots should only differ marginally between reboots (might need a few minutes of usage to become accurate). Also notable: over 20% difference in percentage reading between rom and recovery.
I wouldn't mind investigating this. So I wonder if anyone with "proper" battery life could provide me a "dumpsys" for the battery service and would perhaps have the time to take a look at /proc with me.

i unlocked the bootloader and root the device at the same period and i stayed for months with the stock rom
i don't know which one is responsible for percentage misreadings
also don't get confused
i am talking only for percentage misreadings and not for better battery life
and only when you charge the device.not unplugged
of course i had(and i still have) very good battery life with whatever rom i have flashed
by the way i have noticed the percentage difference between recovery and rom but i don't remember if it was 20%

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. I really want to solve this issue, so I'm quite keen on getting the facts straight.
Back to my issue then (yeah I'm effectively hijacking this thread): is it possible the percentage misreading is causing the battery not to fully charge and/or discharge? Or should I direct my search to another cause?
This is what I found (or did not find) so far:
- Stand-by time seems great, the drain occurs when the screen is on.
- There is nothing in the normal battery usage (usage goes to screen)
- I was unable to detect an obvious culprit with better battery stats.
- I did notice that when I do a dumpsys, service battery shows voltage in V, while my Sony shows it in mV.
- I tried offline charging for about an hour today (light still orange), after boot the battery indicator showed 100%. It dropped to 86% in 7 to 8 minutes.

probably never truly reached the full charge(100%) when charged it in that one hour
by the way how old is your battery?
did you try with a new one?
