Ringtone selection menu is a nightmare - Blu Pure XL

i've been beating my head against the wall over this.. when trying to change the stock sound for any ringtone/alarm/notification the menu that appears seems to be a jumbled mess of every. single. audio file on both internal and external SD memory..
"hmmm… i wonder which nondescript audiobook file would make for the best SMS notification sound?" says absolutely nobody.

I've had the same problem. I just downloaded zedge and change ringtones and notification sounds through that app

i go into settings->system and click [add ring tone]
i switch the one i want and press ok
then i go into settings->personal and click [Phone]
and find the file under the Ring tone: dropdown box
you dont go into sounds and notifications to change ring tone
If the ringtone is a .mid file, or possibly even a .wav (others will confirm?), then you first need to choose the option to 'create ringtone' on the phone before it will appear in the Notifications listbox.
On the other hand, where some users get confused, is when they cannot find a .wma file, when going into the "create ringtone" option, for the simple reason that .wma ringtones don't NEED converting, and are already in the notifications list box, if you saved them in the right place.
So for .wavs, midis, and similar, you need to first choose the option on the phone to Create a ringtone.
But for .wma files, if you save in the right place, these will NOT be available in the covert list, and instead ALREADY in the sounds and notifications drop down list.
All I had to do was to copy them into the Windows/Rings folder. And they were listed along with the original ringtones.

anyway to lift the 300k restriction on ringtones?

im transfering my ringtones from my bold to my captivate and it states that i cant use anything above 300k, as most of my ringtones are above 300k. Is there anyway to get around this? Thanks. Also is there a way to set said ringtone as the DEFAULT ringtone besides using the stock sounds that samsung provides? please advise.
i used MP3s for my ring tones and they are 3-5 megs with no issues.
what you have do is sync to your computer and create a folder in the root directory of the SD card (/sdcard/) that's labeled ringtones.
i copied my MP3s there and they showed up in the list of available ring tones.
you may be able to do it right from the file browser on the phone, but i don't know how to do that yet. just got the phone yesterday.
now to figure out how to get custom txt message noises.

Click to collapse
btw i downloaded ringo-pro and was able to change the default ringtone no problem...
thats sorta stupid the 300kb cap... i would just go into the sd card and make a folder named ringtones that works usually
Get Rings Extended
I actually own a Captivate, and the only way I was able to get around the limit was to install the free Rings Extended app. I had already put my full-length ringtones in the /media/audio/ringtones folder on the phone's internal memory, after trying to just have the ringtones folder on the root of my SD card to no avail, and it didn't work.
In order to get Rings Extended to work (it doesn't have an icon on the app list), go to Settings, Sound and Display, Voice Call Ringtone, check the set default box, and choose Rings Extended to manage ringtone selection. You can then change your phone's ringtone to something larger. To set ringtones per person, just go to your Contacts list and do it as normal. Rings Extended will pop up to allow you to choose longer ones.

[Q] samsung transform use mp3 as text message notification

The subject basically says it. I can't find a tutorial for my specific phone the Sprint Samsung Transform. I have downloaded my songs, trimmed them down, created the ringtones folder on the root of my sd card, and dropped the mp3s in there. went back to phone settings sounds and notifications. changed my phones ringtone, that worked. now i want to change the sound the plays when i receive a new text, but i cannot find the option to do that on the phone. am i missing something or is there a hack or anything that will enable this?
i found a sort of fix for this. change your notification ringtone to whatever you want your text message ringtone to be. the only problem is it makes that same sound for every notification. most noticeably when you plug your phone ino the charger. thats the best ive figured out tho.

[Q] Sounds still there but not showing up when I try to...

I can see the sounds in ES file explorer but they don't show up under the ringtone select or notification selection. Just all of a sudden disappeared. They don't show up in the Music Player app either.
Anyone? The LiveProfile sound is there but none of the rest. They are all in the same directory.
I'm still having this issue. The sounds returned for a few days but then disappeared again.
what is your question ? you want set "your sound" to be a ring tone or notification ? is that what you asking ?
try copy your sound file to /system/media/audio , you should see few folders , copy/paste to "alarms" (clock) , "notifications" (like SMS arrive) and "ringtones"
They are there. I can see them in Es file explorer, even play them but they don't show up in the music app or in the ringtone selection list except for one.

Unable to set custom ringtones or notification tones

I have a number of custom ringtones/notification sounds in the internal SD all this time. Suddenly, I am unable to see them in this list to set custom ringtones and notification sounds. The Z3 can't see them for some reason.... not so sure why.
The notification sounds are in the notification folder while ringtones are in the ringtones folders. Nothing has changed. I have confirmed that those custom ringtones are still in the internal SD (in the notification and ringtone folders respectively!) via the file manager.
Rebooting the phone doesn't help.
Even using ringtone apps like Ringtone Maker .. I am unable to see any of the files and set them accordingly. I could do it before. The only way I can see the ringtones/notification is when I use the Browse option in the app... then I can locate them.
Thanks for reading.
