Hey, Guys, hopefully, this is not asked now, but what exactly would happen, if I would flash XT1540 firmware on my XT1541 device? I just found this thread with differences http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/help/variants-moto-g-3rd-gen-t3168594 but the differences looks like just to be the frequencies. My provice uses thre frequences for LTE. 800,1800,2600, Would my XT1541 work "normal" with XT1540 firmware? Or would it brick? If it bricks, why? Are there hardware differences? So much variant for one device is very confusing..
Thanks in advance.

Hey there friend. Let me tell you something about carrier locking today. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FIRMWARE OR ROM. Carrier locks are on a completely different partition on your phone, one that is not even easily user accessible so flashing the factory image won't re-lock your phone if it is already unlocked. Hope you understand.

I do not understand why you would want to risk this beautiful device by flashing a firmware not meant for the model you have. I'm sure factory images for XT1541 are available. And if you simply want to take this risk for Marshmallow, don't! Have patience. You will surely get it soon as the rollout will expand gradually.

Is this a Tesco BRANDED device, meaning is a customized version of the device? If so, I would tread very lightly in trying different ROMs, if it is carrier locked or using special radio firmware, it could likely bootloop on any incorrect firmware.
Carrier branded devices are often not the same as the retail versions, and sometimes they are identical... All I am saying is proceed with caution, and although a true brick is unlikely, it is possible.

Yes , its a TESCO branded phone. There is tesco label on the box itself and also the build name in ABOUT PHONE is like this OSPREY_RETGB-TESCO_5.1.1_LPI23.72-47. But its carrier unlocked right now
My question here is if i flash the same XT1541_OSPREY_RETGB-TESCO_5.1.1_LPI23.72-47_cid7_subsidy-TESCOGB_CFC.xml stock rom , will my device be carrier locked or not ?

I can't say that for certain, it *should* work, but I can't tell you that for certain.
Most likely case if it doesn't work is a bootloop and you reflash stock firmware... You will not relock you device (bootloader or carrier).

My dad recently upgraded to a new phone, so his old 1st gen Moto G is just lying around now.
However, it's an XT1033 (Dual-SIM) variant.
What I want:
-Unlocked Bootloader
-Root
-TWRP
-CM12.1
-No Dual-SIM functionality (so basically I want my phone to be an XT1032)
The phone has a locked bootloader right now, running on stock 4.4.4 (Asia Retail) and is unrooted.
My main question is, can XT1032's TWRP work on an XT1033?
Second question, can I flash the 'falcon' builds from the CM website on my phone, or is there something else I have to do?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This requires no special modification right? Just root, and an unlocked BL.
When I flash it, I'll just lose Dual-SIM, but everything else will work, right?

There is a possibility some ROMs may refuse to install because the Developer has written the install script to fail if 'XT1033' is detected - but I doubt that is very common.
Unlock Bootloader, 'rooting' is rarely something you need to do separately - more often part of the ROM zip. Everything should work apart from the 2nd SIM slot.

I have a Verizon tablet. I would like to flash a version of the firmware did not come from Verizon, the same firmware that I'd have gotten if I didn't buy it from them and is not tied to any carrier at all. Is this possible without doing anything weird that you'd have to do with a custom ROM like unlock the bootloader? Or can this be accomplished with no complications whatsoever by flashing through Odin?

Firmwares are model number specific plus, Verizon has locked bootloader on every one of their Samsung devices younger than 2 years old and some of the older ones that have been updated to Lollipop or newer have locked bootloader, some are locked as far back as KitKat. If the device you have has a locked bootloader then it's not gonna allow you to flash anything that isn't Verizon firmware.

Got it, thank you.
This is an unlocked T-Mobile G5, but why have a special ROM for unlocked phone? I wonder if I flash other ROMs, I could lose the unlock. Anyone have any problem rooting and install twrp?
Conclusion after a month long discussion:
G5 with H83020i_un ROM is NOT factory unlock. Upgrading or downgrading will result in SIM lock to T-Mobile, period.
Once locked, it can only be unlocked by T-Mobile customers via T-Mobile unlocked app. Some has to go thru T-Mobile customer service and request SIM unlock by adding IMEI to their database.
I bought 6 (New to New other) unlocked H830 and 2 has the hacked ROM H83020i_un and 4 were completely locked to T-Mobile. Yes, those stupid sellers on ebay just keep sending lock phones as unlocked phone! Good luck getting a unlocked one.
No, you cannot install TWRP or root this version.
I ended up returning mine.
You shouldn't lose the unlock by flashing another ROM.
A ROM isn't just about 'locked or unlocked'. The ROM is the operating system. While it will still be Android no matter what you do, different ROMs are modified differently to provide additional features, or more control over the settings or just a slightly different user interface.
This has NOTHING to do with the phone being unlocked for use on any GSM network.
For example some people want to be able to control the CPU processor speed on the phone more. Some ROM's give you that control built into the settings and use customer kernels that allow the CPU to run faster than it does running stock. Other people just like a more simple UI that you get on base Android ROM's (rather than some of the overlays LG puts on)

I don't know when people will understand that it has nothing to do with sim unlock. Did you confirm that by trying the phone with a non T Mobile SIM on a different network? Or did you just let the T Mobile unlocker app tell you it's still locked?
The app isn't the most reliable thing in the world. It's known to say it's not unlocked when it is or that it can't be unlocked when it already is. Etc etc...
Unlocking it manually (through codes, ADB, root, etc....) messes with the unlocker app. But the unlock itself should still be valid.

Maybe it is something to the specific phones people are getting from the ebay seller. They are being sold as new yet are not factory sealed and missing the Tmo sim card. People are claiming Android pay doesn't work and the phone isn't rooted. A new out of the box phone shouldn't have that issue. So something isn't necessarily kosher.
Guys, I have the same version (H83020i_un) and it has April security update and T-Mobile has different version #s on their website. I have checked for update, but nothing came up. So I can't get T-Mobile updates?
The software version H83020i_un is apparently not an official ROM released by T Mobile or LG.
There is a lot of speculation on Slickdeals (a website for coupons and stuff where this eBay deal has been discussed quite a bit) that the unlock was done by flashing a modified ROM. If so that would explain why flashing a new ROM loses the unlock.
Additionally people are saying that Android Pay doesn't work on this phone with that software update, presumably because it's not official firmware. I've never used Android Pay so I have no idea if it works or not.
All in all if you have the H83020i_un software and bought the phone 'new' I think you got conned. It's not new and that seems to be unofficial software.
I spent a lot of time, with help from @autoprime, trying to figure out where the unlock is stored. I was able to dump the partitions from 20i_un using the method here. After I downgraded to 20A and flashed TWRP, I flashed back all the 20i_un partitions (besides recovery, cache, and userdata), and it still wasn't unlocked. So I'm baffled as to how the unlock works.

I see. It will be used as a second device, so it is fine. I flashed the phone with stock T-Mobile H83020a, then got few OTA updates. Now my phone has H83020i, but T-Mobile's page(below) shows an "f" version as the latest. So is the H83020i, the latest update or not? Also would be good if anyone with real T-Mobile unit could chime in.

AT&T, it's stuck on the May security patch.
I had an att s6+ before and used it oversea. I never got any ota updates. Only hope is Odin. You may want to att s8 forum to confirm.
Looks like it is my only hope. What exactly is Odin and do I flash a carrier one or a stock one. Then if I do the stock one do I get normal updates.
Possible for anyone to link me to a guide on how to flash this unlocked AT&T s8+ to a factory unlocked one or a Three-UK one? Also by doing this will over the air updates start working.
I think att locked the bootloader so no you can not flash other carriers rom. Sorry.
Update> Currently I recommend this method only for unbrick, if you are going to change regions or install stock use this new method: Here
>> Need bootloader unlocked <<
If you want to unbrick or flash stock, you must download the package corresponding to your device and RUI version
1. Download the .zip package and extract the .ofp file
Packages:IndiaRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.07: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.03: Download---------------EuropeRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.06: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.02: Download---------------ChinaRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.06: Download---------------Russia, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and other regionsRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.02: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.02: Download---------------
2. Download and Install OppoRealme-OFP-Flash Tool: Here
3. Place the extracted .ofp file in the same folder as the program.
4. Run OppoRealme-OFP-Flash
5. When running if you have placed only one .ofp file in the folder it will automatically select it.
6. Choose the region you want to install, if you don't know you can search on google country code, or go in automatic mode by adb (if your cell phone isn't bricked).
7. Then it will ask if you want to keep some partitions (if you're doing it for bootloader lock you can't keep any).
8. Accept the terms and then plug the device into fastboot mode.
9. Done!
Note: after this process if you want to lock the bootloader, restart again in fastboot mode and type the command "fastboot flashing lock"
At last! Thank you! Will try it as soon as I have some free time to do it!
One quick question please. So let's say I want to go from Europe to India rom. I need to unlock bootloader and start the process you described. Do I need to take backup any partition in order not to lose IMEI or something? And after flashing to relock bootloader only type "fastbook flashing lock"? Some people were saying there is no official method to relock the bootloader again that's why I'm asking.

That's right, I don't know if blocking with a system from another region would work, it could even work, but it's risky to test, only if you have 10usd to pay for the hard unbrick.

Listen, the thing is that I wouldn't even bother to test another rom. I already have made a thread here asking for some help because I have problem with incoming caller ID on 4G/5G with VoLTE enabled. Since no solution has been found, even after contacting Realme, the next thing to try was another (stock always) rom to see if it would work. If I would try to change rom I have to be VERY careful because there are absolutely NO service centers of Realme in my country. That's why I'm asking these questions. I want to know how safe is to "transfer" from another rom and if it is posible to return to my stock rom again with locked bootloader.
