Remix OS for N80XX - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just saw this modification of Android OS while reading articles at the Verge.
Would this be compatible for our tablets?
Remix OS has better options than what TouchWiz or other Android OEM frameworks can offer.

I was thinking the same, Remix Os should be great on our tablet
We need a developer interested in port it...

I don't have the knowledge to make the proper drivers for our device. I even study Computing Engineering, but so far I do not know how to do much

The first question that comes to my mind is that the extra features that will be available in Android M.... Then the ROMs can be discussed as they are always the icing on the cake.

Onereason Android makes it a better choice than Ios was this fact that you are onmuch more open work to walk on(easily root and stuff) but Android m accordin to news here is trying all it can to blockbring changes..i seems we are again going through OS which is going to limited our capabilities in customizin its environment...if this happened,I believe other OS like firefox or in near future, MIUI(independent of android in future),will have more chance of getting attention ...hope google won't cose the paths to root and stuff as root is really what brings out "the most feature of Linux system in android" and having an androind device as being more pleasant

I don't think Google would do that. Because it would ruin Android's Open Source. But if that happen, there would be another OS to develop for SmartPhones: Ubuntu Touch

Well brothers, we hope Marshmallow brings prosperity to Android. Or more
Will Galaxy Grand Neo (GT-I9060) have 6.0 Marshmallow rom, im stuck over 2years with JB 4.2 its horrible
One thing that is awesome about Android 6.0 is the fact that we will be able to limit what apps can access.I'm hoping that in turn adds to better security to your device since we live now in a world that security gets harder as technology gets farther along.
wonder what new features will be in CM 13..

CM13 nightly released for Asus Padfone S/X.I am not sure about this just saw a guide on theandroidsoul.com.If it is true then CM13 will be available for other devices. soon
This thread is interesting, and could be one to follow re the progress of CM13. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/cm13-0-unofficial-watching-code-merged-t3228335
Apparently we know that Doze will be included in CM13, which is good news IMO....I'm very excited about the battery life increases it should bring.
Cool
Now that Cyanogenmod is in bed with Microsoft and will install Microsoft apps as default system apps that can't be removed...I no longer care about any new CM news or builds.

[req] request to all developers

Why there are no ported roms for moto g 2015?
I request all developers to port rom foe moto g 2015 such as MIUI, ZENUI, XPERIA, TOUCHWIZ etc
Please vote guys so that developers would listen to our request....
U r ordering the developers which is against Xda rules. Miui has not come up with 5.1.1 so its not possible to port. Apart from that tell a Samsung device with same hardware to port touchwiz.

Bro I'm not ordering to anyone I'm just politely requesting developers to do so.... Its just my opinion, everyone can have different opinions thats why I've added poll option . No issues at all
OMG! TouchWiz? Really?
We have out of the box the most requested feature on every phone... Pure Android experience. Sincerely, apart of CM variants, i don't want any port for moto g.
Simply my opinion.
I don't see it as ordering, I just see it as showing the dev there's an interest in having that rom. I know I'm not going to waste much time on a project if only a small handful of people will use it.
I personally would love an xperia rom, as well as a FFOS and Ubuntu rom. If we could have a multiboot kernel, as well, I'd be in pig heaven dude!!! I'd have all of them on my sd card!!
I can port Zen UI,Vibe Ui,Funtouch Os..miui ...it might be difficult to port ...to this device cuz its 32 bit only. someone add me in a telegram group of moto g3 for further talk. And discussions
Why?!?! Those manufacturer interfaces are just bloatware crap... Grab a ROM that supports themes, either RRO or CM Theme Engine (and maybe the new Substratum) and you can likely find a theme that would give a better experience with the same appearance.
And BTW, there is a Sony Xperia "clone" called XOSP, which takes most of the good parts of Xperia devices and integrates them into a very Sony looking and behaving ROM with many of the actual Xperia apps. It is actually a very good ROM.
Instead port should be made for SAILFISH OS its kinda really demanding

Yeah Sailfish OS, remix os, kali Nethunter package are a few things that are really cool and useful. I used the alpha sailfish port for osprey and it was indeed a great experience even though most of the things didn't work.
And I want nethunter for fun things (You know what, no?).
I prefer the above operating systems/tools more to the themed ui ROMs. Probably because I like to create my own custom styled one.

Question for devs, Is it possible to use source code from Redmi 4 Note with SD (code name: mido)? Hardware is quite similar and they have real strong dev community. Maybe quickest way is to use custums Roms for Redmi 4 Note, adjusted hardware differences and compile Rom for R4P?

Xiaomi doesn't release kernel source for building AOSP or CAF based rom, kernel source only work for MIUI at most. Also most proprietary vendor driver not available as sources (only blob). It's pain to build custom rom from Android fork.
Compared to Samsung, Sony, Lenovo, Oneplus etc, almost all abandoned xiaomi devices suffered same fate, the custom rom will always missing something. We were very lucky if we had such a great developer.
My previous device, redmi 1s never get update beyond kitkat, but armani-dev (especially fefifofum) were a great team, they bring mostly stable nougat release (LOS, Mokee, Slim, etc).

That would be essentially the same proccess we are now. It can be achieved though to use the tree from Mido and modify it for our device. Make a stable tree then compile

Intel Atom x86 SOC, how hard is it to load rom from a different atom z25xx device?

I am on a Asus trio tx201la INTEL x86 tablet on android 4.2 on the tablet part. I researched that The zenfone 5, dell venue 7 and the samsung galaxy tab 3 10.1. All have the same intel atom z2560 cpu soc and some are running Android 7 & even 8 now.
The Galaxy tab 3, zenphone 5 got a lot more attention and thus a lot more custom rom attention. Dell venue and my Trio got little to no attention due to poorer sales.
The galaxy tab 3 has been updated to 7.1.1 see:
http://techbeasts.com/install-android-711-nougat-galaxy-tab-3-101-lineageos-141/
Now How can that help the Trio? I found this tool, but no flash.xml so no luck using it:
https://01.org/android-ia/downloads/intel-platform-flash-tool-lite
Here is a guide on how to use it: http://www.aryk.tech/2016/04/how-to-flash-stock-firmware-using-intel.html?m=0
This is all NEW as of 2017. So its not been available before this.
The TX201LAF a french tablet version of the TX201LA is in the same boat but it at least it is on 4.4. Its kernel firmware is here: http://support.asus.com.cn/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=TX201LAF&p=3&s=587
My big question is with all these roms for x86 atom z2560 & z2580 soc's shouldn't I be able to get an updated rom somehow? I imagine that would involve building a rom myself but if the base soc is the same isnt it possible to build the rom for a different device and use a different kernel source like I linked above? The kernel source has the drivers I need right, for the device to run? Ive heard a lot of people talk about you wont get the touch panel to work or the wifi. I understand that but isnt it all loaded from the kernel source? So basically if I have kernel source and grab an updated rom from lineage 7 for the galaxy tab 10.1 and replace the kernal i'm good to go right? I know there is more to it but really looking for some help here?
Even if I can just get the tx201laf image to load on my tx201la that would be
something, its an update from 4.2 to 4.4. Both devices are identical, so that should make it a lot easier right? Looking for any insight to xda experts can provide.
Hi ! I'm still using my trio so I'm very interested ! Did you succeed ?
Thks a lot
no luck yet
I had hopes that this would turn out to work but you cant use the intel flash tool without a flash.xml which is written for the device. SO that stopped me dead in my tracks.
I recently found this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/efidroid-t3447466/page37
Hoping this dev will give the tx201la a shot. There is also this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...g/tool-multirom-recovery-replacement-t3102395
Do you realize how simular the tx201la is to just about every zenphone made since the newest. IE almost all of those roms would likely boot on our tablet.
??
Any other input?

Anyway that lead me to this: https://cs5-3.4pda.to/10031052/20170404_145326.jpg?6c8bd0e99d5f5d5ce8c14e92c456565c

[CHAT] HD10 (2017) - custom ROM brainstorming:

With HD10 (2017) unlock/TWRP available - link (thanks to @k4y0z!!!), the next natural question is a custom ROM. The subject may turn out to be slightly trickier than what appears at first sight.
Let's have a discussion thread to brainstorm on this and not wonder off-topic in other places.
I had seen @DragonFire1024 & @Rortiz2 tried to work on that, so feel free to chime in as necessary.
What we have:
HD10 (2017) chipset - MT8173 (2+2 cores), there is an beefier brother to it, MT8176 (2+4 cores). For most practical purposes both chipsets seem almost identical software-wise.
MT8173 was introduced in March 2015 (time of Lollipop domination - Android 5). MT8176 was introduced in October 2016 (getting toward Nougat - Android 7).
The efforts up to date on a custom ROM for this chipset appear to be by @Goayandi, who is still active on XDA, so his work could be used a starting point. I believe @Goayandi was working on Android 7 (Nougat). Here are some of the original links:
XDA : Mediatek MT8173 & MT8176 development
Reddit: Mediatek MT8173 & MT8176 development
Stuff from Amazon for MT8173 (both HD10 2017 and FireTV2) is Lollipop-vintage (Android 5), other devices with these chipsets seem to have reached Nougat (Android 7). It does not appear that there is any known MT8173/MT8176 device with Android 8, or 9 (or is there?). It seems that @diplomatic has an Asus like this with Nougat.
At the moment, it feels a a Nougat custom ROM might be the ceiling for the device, given the difficulties of finding proprietary pieces for MTK chipsets to get Android 8 or 9 going. Now, even Android 7 is still a bit of a challenge, given limited prior success.
More thoughts/ideas? Feel free to fill this thread with random thoughts as much as you want - that's what it's for!!!
I'm really looking forward to an AOSP experience on this tablet, to be honest. Can't wait to see what they come up with!

As long as I can set up everything properly I'm ready to go. I've managed to get past script issues I think. I can get it to flash and it boots to the orange fire logo and sits for eternity. This was the same result pre and post TWRP. So at this point it's probably the installation and improper setup of the tree and files. If someone can point me to a guide or give me instructions on how to add support to my AOSP working directory, that would be great. This bit of the leg work is hard as there really aren't any guides that are detailed enough or that work anymore.
Secondly, I think if we are going to use a kernel, we either use the 7.0 source, or just use the kit I have to build our own. Amazon cherry picked the crap out of the kernel practically to the bare bones, so I think expanding from it is just a waste of time, especially since we have the kit that does a lot of the work for us, including providing signatures and the tools to sign etc.

I wouldn't mind even if the best ROM available is a 6.0 Marshmallow one. Anything that gives AOSP on a stable base for the Fire HD10 is going to be awesome.

Sorry for being out of the loop - were those kernel sources for Lollipop? Or does it even matter at all - meaning they would be good to go with newer Android versions as well.

They will likely need some patches to work with newer versions, but it's a good start I'd say.
It's the most recent version amazon has published.

I am working on it as we speak. I downloaded the zip from the second post in this thread, 1.1. extracted and ran sudo ./bootrom-step.sh. said it can't find build/payload directory it doesn't exist. So I assume I use that folder from the other unbricking thread copy it to yours? Assuming its a yes to that question, I keep getting the serial port errors. I also had to delete a setting in udev (this was my own addition to it) and rebooted PC. Now I am having a cigarette. When I do it again, if I still get serial port errors, time to try each of the 8 or 10 other ports on the PC.

Hi bibikalka,
Very good idea this thread.
What you can do, is to port a port a ROM of another MT8173 tablet to the FIRE HD10 2017.
This works and I have tested it on my BQ Aquaris M8 (MT8163) it has a similar MTK so I guess it will work. I have ported for example a ROM of an asus zenpad that uses MT8163 and at least the rom boots.
BTW: Oreo on MT8176: https://www.xda-developers.com/alldocube-x-10-5-inch-android-8-1-oreo/

Apparently I forgot to add the right files.

But these aren't amazon sources are they?
They probably are missing some drivers then.
But if they are for mt8173 they could be used as a source to patch the amazon-sources.

Excellent find! Here is a review link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ldocube-x-review-media-playback-king-t3902539
Alldocube X kind of has 2x of everything compared to HD10 2017, but at 2x price I wonder how fast Oreo would be on HD10 and if 2Gb of RAM would cut it. But this is definitely the device to copy if one wants latest and greatest!
And here is a thread with misc download links for ROMs:

I will try to port lineage 15.1 but the safest thing is that it will not work.
I have also ported an AOSP Rom for anyone who wants to try it. Tomorrow I will give more info.

Alright, we have both an eager developer, and a tester!!! Just remember, avoid bricking !
Very recently (March 2019) @wangyiling seems to have put together a LineageOS 15.1 ROM for MT8173/8176 - link, so hopefully we can re-purpose that for HD10. It's great to have an active developer elsewhere looking at the same thing!
It feels that if there is at least something that boots the kernel, it'd be a huge step forward.

If my testing on ROMs caused my brick, we have to be careful. I've been testing and flashing test ROMs for months now and never bricked like this. I think I may know what happened and if I'm right, I'm not sure what effect if any this will have on flashing a rom. According to the fstab.mt8173 file in the root directory, the partitions we flash for a rom, aren't part of the EMMC: data, system, cache are all ext4. All other partitions are however EMMC. So if I recall correctly, I did list the system as EMMC in the build script, but did intend to remove it. I made a last minute adjustment to the script and didn't change that part though.

Ok guys so here's the first test for the AOSP ROM.
First of all, I am not responsible for bricked devices. It is you who decides to try the ROM without knowing if it will work because it is a TEST.
DOWNLOAD: Removed
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
- Boot TWRP
- Make NANDROID BACKUP
- Make wipes
- Format data
- Install ROM
- Reboot
Please. If the installation fails, send the errors and if the ROM starts, comment on the bugs.
Regards!

Which AOSP version is this? Could you try that Oreo Lineage stuff from @wangyiling at some point as well?
One of these days we'll have a ROM developer and a tester within the same person Too bad we've lost @DragonFire1024 since his tablet got bricked
