The Smart Manager app is really helpful and original by Samsung. Why would the stupid Verizon remove it? It's damn stupid, foolish and selfish of Verizon. Fortunately I can always use the Greenify app, though.
I'm sure you could download the apk as long as its on another note 5 version.

I think the app is actually installed in our system. Looking in priv-app the is a SmartManager-Provider apk, but there is a good chance that there is a csc line that is not allowing the app to load.

Not that I have found yet. To edit the csc file we need root, I did find another thread that had the smart manager apk and tried to install it but I would not. It needs to be a system apk.

Unfortunately from what I have seen is Verizon and AT&T decided against it because they want their apps instead..... Like the data control Verizon wants you to use family base... Which works well granted but also is an added feature on the account

I found a semi solution, let me know if it works for you...
Download es file explorer, then download the task manager add on. - Has an option to quickly clear ram with a touch of a button.
Next option and closer to System manager...I recommend this one..
Download all in one gestures set either your app or back key with long press and select kill app.
Once set, go back to home screen, long press whatever button you setup, you should see a ram manager popup and hit boost.
Viola.

Thanks for your reply. Actually ram is not a problem here. Note 5 has 4G ram after all. I'm using Greenify's unroot mode and everything has been working fine for me so far.

Thanks for the relevant information. By the way, I'm really curious about how Verizon is gonna deal with Andriod 6.0's strict authority management.
They have to accept it. Google runs most phones we sell. ? I personally can't wait

While my one x is charging, wanted to see if I can find workarounds till root is available for a few things:
Battery percent on status bar (something nice looking but lightweight)
No search button, including assigning long press to an app.
Notification toggles
Using nova, and even in a lot of other apps, missing the menu button. Any suggestions or is anyone else having this issue?
Sure would like to restore some of my app data.. Especially for the few games I have.
Any good and battery friendly lock screen replacement? Last I heard widget locker still wasn't ics compatible.
Any way to block ads on an unrooted phone lol?
Anyone get Google voice working?
Sure was spoiled having root during my entire prior android experience. I've went ahead and got this assuming we'll have root in the not so distant future. Just trying to get by till then. I have a hard time seeing myself with anything else but a htc phone but I'll switch to the s3 if nothing changes by the time its released.. Grr.. sure don't want to.
Ty so much for any help I can get.

As far as Google voice is concerned, still can't get it to take. It changed two of my forwarding numbers but won't switch my voicemail in settings, nor does my call history include my google voice mails.

As far as google voice, I set it up on the phone and it would not work correctly, so I logged in on the pc and went to settings and it gave me a code to type into the phone and it works now, but in the voicemail settings on the phone it still says my carrier but under call forwarding it has my gv number
I think I had to deactivate it then reactivate it

was wondering about the GoogVoice issue as well. dude... i cannot freaking wait until we get this thing rooted. so many problems on the software side. it's pretty horrendous imo. there's quite a lot i'd like to tweak.

Yes, I've used Apex before. Nova (for me at least on the Inspire) just seemed to be smoother (and I had already paid for the prime version). I might give apex another shot on this phone.
There is a Google Voice thread on this forum. It worked for me. You have to log in on the computer and use a number. After that it works like a charm regardless of what the VM settings on the phone say.

You can even put your most used apps in the drop down if you want.

Yeah it kind of stinks having to run another app but it is very customizable which is very nice. You can even make more than one toggle bar if you want to.

I was wondering if any developers would be willing to look in to the Moto Assist app, I know there's a few of us that would like to be able to toggle the driving functionality on and off at will.
I work from home programming, so it's great to be able to just vocally tell my phone to read me texts, or answer calls... but then I'd like to be able to turn it off when I go out to dinner haha. I've already tried work-arounds like forcing car mode on, or downloading other apps. Nothing works as well as the stock Moto Assist app, but unfortunately it only works when I'm driving, it must pull from the GPS.
Anyway, if someone could look into this that would be awesome, it's a bit beyond my ability regrettably. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
Like being able to say.. "okay Google now. Turn on moto assist"

EDIT
New finding in SmartActionsHanashi.apk ... there's a service com.motorola.hanashi.CommunicationMediatorService (my guess on which service it is) and I think (I dont do much reverse engineering) we just need an app to activate the service after we edit the SmartActionsHanashi.apk to make the service exported (it is false ATM)...
I would try it myself but with no root I cant reinstall the SmartActionsHanashi.apk
Edit like 4
SmartActionsHanashi.apk also has all of the right resources. so i am 90% sure that this is the apk we are looking for.
If anyone would like to try my idea PM me, you WILL need root.

In all fairness, it's a completely different situation. I know with my Droid DNA it took MONTHS to see anything other than slightly modded stock ROMs.
I'm sure the Moto X community will pick up in the next few months but that being said i'll probably get a Nexus 5 to satisfy my urges.

New development assist app uses new modified smart actions app and there are rules in here that correspond to assist actions but using the ones they have all I can do is confuse the phone..... There are also strange actions that don't do anything except if in the driving sleeping meeting actions ....in the pictures I'm sitting at my desk but in the status bar you can see I'm "driving" but no texts are read and music didn't start either....
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk 4
Edit the command i got to open the assist engine is
adb shell
su? idk i just used it
[email protected]:/ # am start com.motorola.contextual.smartrules2/.app.AboutActivity
AOV is Touchless Controls
I believe LED is Active Notification
use with caution i probably messed up my assist just now
Is anyone still working on this by chance? The only thing about my Moto X that I wish was different is having the ability to switch having the phone read my texts aloud on and off at will. I'm surprised that such a useful feature is limited to only driving when there are so many situations where it would be useful. Being able to do this without needing root access would be ideal.
This would be very useful and definitely be awesome for a work environment.
I am going to try and do it again. I have some new ideas on how to do it!
Will post in here and make a new thread if profit is achieved :fingers-crossed:
I would defiantly donate $10 for this.
Profit
Hello all. I recently had a Samsung Galaxy S5. While the phone is nice and fast, I never really liked it. So I traded it in and Got a Nexus 5. I love this thing. I love the Google launcher. Very fast and easy to use. However one of the the things I would really like to get is the the Pandora unlimited skips .apk (I think I said that right). I currently pay for the no-ad version, but the skip limit sucks. I have rooted Android phones before but that was always to remove the stock launcher. I really do not want to remove the stock Google launcher in this case.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can add the Pandora .apk without changing my phone too much?
Thanks ~ Erik
PS I know this is probably easy for 98% of you so please be nice. I did try searching and couldn't find what I was looking for. Perhaps I am using wrong search terms, IDK...

You don't need root to install APK files. Just go to settings -> security and enable 'Unknown Sources'. After that, open the apk using your favorite file explorer. Done.

He is not in this case . There are hacked Pandora apks here on xda that just allow unlimited skips. (There is also an xposed module here on XDA that does the same thing a hacked apk would do) keep in mind Pandora is a free app. The only benifit there is with Pandora One (the paid service) is no ads. Pandora does not allow skips regardless of using free service or paid service. So really this isn't again XDA rules since he is not exploiting a paid feature for free.

This is correct. I pay $36 a year for Pandora One. I would gladly pay more if I could get unlimited skips. I have found that on my way into work that Spotify, iHeart, Amazon, etc all skip and buffer. Pandora plays perfectly. All I really want is a way to have unlimited skips. I am going to ask about that in the Q&A section.

Trying to use selective text/ photo whatever it's called. On note 4 I could select a group of words from a picture, post etc. and after selecting a T would pop up if I wanted to extract the text and allow me to copy to clipboard. Still haven't found the built in to snote feature; however, apps like TextFairy or Optical Reader essentially do the same thing (just one more step). They also allow to export to snote/pdf. Wouldn't be too bad to add one of them to the air command menu.

Blame the us carriers for disabling it, god forbid giving the customer an easy way to disable their pricey service...
