Moto G (2015) Update issue - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Background: My phone is rooted and I have TWRP installed as my recovery.
Android 6.0 rolled out to my phone, and I really want to update it. However, everytime I try to install it, my phone boots into TWRP and does nothing. After booting into Android, my phone will boot into TWRP on its own again, and after repeating this for a while it will read something along the lines of, "There was a problem with the update" My question is this: how do I install the software update sent to my phone?

You can't flash the OTA with a custom recovery or root. You'll have to flash a stock recovery to get the OTA.

help to Root moto g(xt1033) with no OS

my phone was rooted and i had installed cm12. since it had many bugs, i was trying to return to stock lollipop using mfastboot. but mfastboot stopped working in the middle of the process and now i have no OS in my phone. also when i tried to switch off the phone from recovery (TWRP), my phone said-" your device does not appear to be rooted. install SuperSU now? This will root your device." there is an option to install supersu and an option to cancel. so i tried to install it, but nothing seems to be happening. can someone please help me out. because, if i am not mistaken, to install stock ROM by adb sideload...i need to be rooted. what should i do? :crying:

No need to worry. Just download the stock lollipop firmware again and reflash it.
Have a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/lollipop-stock-rom-t3018568

Shutting down Repeatedly When trying to Update Marshmallow

Hi All,
I have Moto X play running on android 5.1.1 lollipop. It was rooted recently and used with cyanogen Mod 12.1 for a month. during that time i did back up of entire phone. later i restored that and at present i have been using stock Rom. Recently i got official update for Android marshmallow and i downloaded the 500+Mb file and tried to install. In that process it was going to Twrp recovery mode and not installing properly. So i did reboot system. After 5 mins i turned on mobile, it got shutdown and i again restored my backup . It was working fine. cant we update to Marshmallow with the rooted device? If so how to stop the notifications of android system updates? I tried this way but still i am getting update notification
Apps--> All---> Motorola Update services--> turned off the notification
.How to disable it so that i should not receive update notification? or any other process to upgrade to marshmallow even after rooting? Please let me know

you need stock recovery to update to OTA mm, you cannot update from TWRP. download the lollipop stock-firmware extract the recovery file and flash it, then update.
i wanted to ask that after restoring from backup you got OTA update notification ? or you downloaded the MM update from other sources?? because i thought after rooting i wont get official OTA.

if you have your backup just do a full flash on stock rom and start fresh. there's an Asian 6.0 rom (I believe it is Indian) on the x play github. then proceed with root again.

Actually i am not android developer or android related person. After i heard many things about rooting the devices. I just give it a try by watching the video in you tube. So i am not aware of the core technical terms you specified.
First rooted the mobile. before installing the cyanogen Mod 12.1, i took back up in TWRP recovery mode. i used that same backup to restore after my device got shutdown. Yes even after rooting i got the Update notification

i think if you can block/disable notifications for Google Play Services, it'll remove the update notification.
settings>>apps>>google play services>>disable all notifications

Sir, Is it possible to unroot the rooted devices in any way? if so could you please let me know
if you want to unroot you can do it from superuser, its mentioned in the youtube video. just unroot from superuser settings.
then if you want to upgrade to marshmallow download Indian stock lollipop rom from https://github.com/motoxplay/stock. unzip it on your computer to the the folder where you kept TWRP while flashing it . you'll see a file named recovery.img.
from adb run the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
i.e flash this recovery just the way you flashed TWRP.
then you can update to marshmallow.
and did disabling google play services removed your update notification???

You just have to download the twrp flashable 6.0 zip file and restore it through twrp. No extra things.

or
nope no problem just flash the recovery. but before doing anything take a backup on your external sdcard twrp>>backup[look at bottom to change where to store the backup select sd card] for security if in case anything goes wrong, you can flash twrp again and restore.
and remember to select 'ALLOW OEM UNLOCK' and usb debugging options from settings>>developer options

Just follow the procedure as given in that thread and everything will be fine.
It has nothing to do with the way you rooted your phone.
If a phone has twrp installed, he has nothing to fear about upgrading to latest versions as the updates are made available on Xda in Twrp flashable zip.
So no need to format the stock firmware again and then update and then all the headache.

Sir, In your previous post you meant to say this?
1. First unroot the mobile using the super Su (settings)
2. Then flash the Stock lollipop rom mentioned in the github
3. Then update the mobile to Marshmallow
4. Then again root the device
You meant to say this?

1. correct
1.1. check oem unlock and usb debugging
1.2. Copy the original old backup which you took, to your external sdcard. [just to return to stock if anything goes wrong]
2. Just flash the recovery which is present in the lollipop rom, no need to flash the whole rom.
3. correct
4. Do NOT flash the old superuser to root. To root again follow these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/root-how-to-root-6-0-easly-t3277202
that other post was much easier

Ive installed on my rooted phone and got problems!!!
The phone restarts, and keep looping restarting on a screen with a logo written "TeamWin".
Help!
Sounds like a typical ota. Don't take it if you're rooted or have a custom recovery. On mm you might not even want to take it if /system has ever been mounted rw.
Entered on recovery and booted to the system. Got the screen above.

i had the same problem, flashed the original recovery and stopped the loop, but i'm still getting the error you posted. In my case, the phone reboots, attempt to update, then in the middle of the instalation it says "error", and reboots to system.
now i've got this goddamn notification that i have an update available. BR XT1572
What should I do to stop receiving this popup message about update avaiable?
Yes recieved in india too
6.4Mb
how can i install this? i have systemless root, no custom recovery but i'm still getting an error while the update is flashing... i woudn't mind but there is a pesky notification telling me everytime i have an update available, does anyone in brazil have captured the ota
Same question. How to install this with systemless root and TWRP Recovery?
The point of systemless root is to be more simple to unroot it when needed to take an ota.
So my thinking is:
1. Reflash original boot image (that systemless root changed)
2. Reflash original recovery?
Is this all, or do we need something else?
Thanks

That's mostly it, if you have xposed you should remove it first as well.
The only problem is where do I find the stock boot image and stock recovery ?
In superSU app we have a full unroot option - will it restore the stock boot? (The supersu was installed by TWRP Recovery flash)
The TWRP recovery itself was installed through fastboot...
thanks

Failing updates after installing TWRP

Hello,
I have a Mate9 phone. Installed TWRP and rooted. Today I found that there is an update. System downloads the update and restarts into the recovery mode, but update not recognized, and I don't know the location. of the update to manually install. After rebooting phone downloads again the whole update.
How can I install this update?
Thanks in advance.

G920T : "dm-verity verification failed..." Help.

Hello, I currently have a G920T that had been working alright for quite some time. The problem is that yesterday while using it normally, it suddenly froze. Thought it was the app, but saw it was the phone itself. Thus, I decide to turn it on again. When I do that, the phone does not continue after the logo and has the LED light white, while blinking on an off. When I manage to enter the Android Recovery menu it gives me the error shown in the title. The phone's rooted and was unlocked, so I could use it with AT&T.
I attempted doing a full reset, upgraded it to Nougat, and I am still stuck. Any help's appreciated in advanced.
Would like to say, when I installed the official Nougat Upgrade for my phone, upon starting, it began installing some things and then preceded to start Deleting. Afterwards, it just froze again. Did I do something wrong?
To get past this issue you have to Root with SuperSU, this will patch the Kernel to disable DM-Verity and will allow you to boot normally.
If you don't want to get rooted then reflash stock firmware via odin. never do OTA updates as i have always say the come "Dirty"
EDIT: Sorry didn't read you were rooted, just re-root again with SuperSU (To get your Kernel patched again) for DM-Verity

So I use (what I previously used) cf-autoroot again? I ask this, since it seems their website have the recovery for marshmallow version and not for nougat (if I am not able to downgrade to 6).

Root with TWRP and superSU zip, i don't recommend CF-AutoRoot
Before flashing the Zip do the following on a Terminal in TWRP
Mount o- bind /dev/urandom /dev/random

When I use CF-Autoroot and attempt to boot it into recovery I get the following message, "recovery is not seandroid enforcing".
So I'd take I try installing a custom ROM first before attempting to start it in recovery?

Oh, that means CF-AutoRoot has not updated to work on 6.0 & 7.0 bootloader for G920T (It is updated and working on 6.0.1 & 7.0 for G920F)
Flash the stock ROM again. After that, flash TWRP and than flash latest SuperSU zip via TWRP.

I tried doing that, but wouldn't get past the main ROM's screen. I tried a custom ROM then (I think nemesis or such) and lasted longer, but again froze and loops with the white LED light on.
Any suggestions?
