Stuck in Optimizing App xxx of xxx - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently upgraded my phone from 4.4.4 to the latest OTA. It was working fine for a while but it crashed, rebooted and keeps (re)optimizing the apps. It'll get stuck on some of them for a long time and might make it through, or I hard reboot it and it does it all over. Whenever it does make it through, it says "starting apps" and then reboots and does it all over again.
I've cleared the cache multiple times and restored the stock recovery, but still not working. Does anyone else have any other suggestions that I could try??
Also I read somewhere that there was a zip I could possibly flash to use all the cores, as lollipop only uses one during this process? Does anyone know where that is?
Thanks.

To make things clearer. Previous what ROM were you on? After your proclaimed (OTA), what was the ROM suppose to be?

I went from the Oneplus One CM 4.4.4 to the CM 5.1 OTA. Not sure why you're don't believe me..

I think I might have bad memory or flash or something at this point..
So since yesterday I've tried using the tutorials here to flash stock Kitkat with the same errors happening. When it boots up, I get a done of crashes on things like gapps and process.acore. I also tried flashing the stock Lollipop; both using the non fastboot and fastboot way. Every time wiping everything with all the same results. The only rom I've had some slight uptime with has been slimrom without gapps as there's not much running there. Once I add the gapps package to it, processes start crashing again.
Does anyone know of a memory/cpu/flash test I could try, or any other suggestions? Thank you.

Random Freezes and Reboots with 4.1.2

I reluctantly took the OTA to 4.1.2 on my Verizon Droid RAZR MAXX HD. The phone runs fine. I haven't had any noticeable issues with signal strength, battery life or anything that other people have been mentioning. What has been happening though, is it will randomly freeze then after a few seconds reboot.
My first thought was to do a factory reset which I did twice. Little to no improvement.
After I unlocked my bootloader, I installed the TWRP recovery. None of the modified 4.1.2 ROMs meant for Safestrap would properly flash.
I then used AD Fastboot to completely a Flash a new image of the firmware, back to stock recovery and everything. I couldn't go back to 4.1.1 so I flashed 4.1.2 hoping that the problem was in a corrupt file. Still rebooting.
Finally I flashed an Image of a mdofified firmware with the DST ROM, TWRP and a few other improvements baked into the firmware. It's rebooting less often now, but it's still rebooting. The reboots don't seem to be linked to a specific application, which makes me think it's some sort of background process, but every process I recognize as unneeded hasn't stopped the rebooting even when force stopped.
As anyone else having any problems like this? I don't feel that it's a hardware issue as the phone worked flawlessly on 4.0 and 4.1.1. Any suggestions?
So my situation is similar... sorta.
Stock non-rooted phone. Its my wife's phone.. Every since the 4.1.2 Update her phone constantly randomly reboots.
In safe Mode it seems to work fine so that led me to believe it was an application.
So Out of safe mode I removed EVERYTHING it'd let me remove.. Still Rebooted.
Factory Reset... Still reboots.
Then I Used RSD lite and Loaded the Firmware back onto it Manually. STILL reboots.
Any Ideas would be appreciated..

I hadn't tried safe mode. If that is the case, then maybe it's an issue with a system service and the kernel? I feel that if that were the case there'd be more people having the problem though. The only other thing I could think of is maybe an issue with the new radio firmware? Do you know if safe-mode disables the radios?
just got my brand new HD today and after a few hours let it OTA to 4.1.2, and have experienced the random freezes and reboots since upgrading... like the OP I've tried freezing/disabling everything in turn trying to figure out the culprit and found none... however I've noticed it does not happen that much, if at all, if the phone is sitting idle, however happens much more frequently only when I'm listening to music through Poweramp if that helps at all

I had the exact same problem as you guys, and the issue was that somehow, I had accidentally gotten the stock 4.0.4 sbl1, sbl2, sbl3, and rpm partitions mixed in with my 4.1.2 installation. After fastbooting stock 4.1.2 everything, my phone worked without a hitch. And like you said anoninja118, it rebooted more often when I was listening to music. I would suggest trying to fastboot stock 4.1.2 again, and put nothing on it, make sure it works, and then experiment with putting on applications. sammyboy405 and AtrusNex, when you fastbooted, was it working fine until you started loading applications onto it?

Not really any difference between no installed programs, so I'm guessing it's something in the Motorola or system applications. I've been noticing that it seems more likely to reboot during media streaming. Currently testing the phone in my free time to see if I can trace the issue.
Got fet up with it enough I just called Verizon and did a warranty replacement. They shipped one overnight. And wife hasn't had a reboot/freeze yet. So I suspect there was a hardware issue causing the issues.
All seems well so far.
I just got a recertified device and am having the same issues. Seems connected to music. It only happens when I'm using Spotify or Pandora. Also appears others are having a similar reaction with music apps.

I'm confounded as to finding hte source of the problem. Every application I've checked, that isn't a main Android service seems to be working fine and doesn't stop the reboots when disabled. I guess I can only hope the problem is remedied with a newer issued kernel or the Cyanogenmod kernel.
its definitely music related, only happens during playback through headphones or phone speaker while playing music... doesn't matter if its streamed or local from SD card... strangely enough it plays fine through bluetooth but I'm rooting and putting CM on this thing as soon as it charges before I throw it at the wall, its sooooooo freaking annoying

Installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 seemed to fix my problem. I'm guessing the AOSP based kernel fixed whatever issue existed within the Verizon 4.1.2 kernel. You might try the same and see how it works out.

Hi, I'm having the same issues. Now my phone is stuck in a factory reset. It goes to the Android Robot with the spinning symbol in his chest, and stays there. I can get into Fastboot mode, and did try flashing what I thought was the correct file. But I keep getting a "Failed flashing process. Unknown fastboot command. (getvar)" Where did you get the file that you flashed in RSDLite?

You have the right file.. but you need to edit the XML file in it.. inside it there are 2 or 3 lines with the getvar command.. delete those lines.. save it and bam.. should work fine.

Okay, so here's my question. Do I delete the whole line or just getvar? Do I delete this whole line? I believe it's in there twice.
"<step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />"
---------- Post added at 07:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:53 AM ----------
Ok, so I went ahead and deleted the whole line and moved it up so there wasn't any space between lines. I tried flashing the file, and now I'm getting another fail. It says "Failed flashing process. 1/27 flash sbl1 "sbl1.mbn" -> USB error occurred while reading/writing" What do I do next?

[Q] Need Help!

Hi, I just tried flashing cyanogenmod on my us cellular galaxy s3, and I ran into a problem. I followed a great youtube tutorial on how to flash cyanogen, and everything went fine. the tutorial used goomanager, and was done only using the phone, no computer. I flashed the rom after backing everything up through titanium, and everything appeared to be working like it should. After the flash was complete, the cyanogen animation popped up on my screen, but as soon as it finished loading, two messages popped up: setup wizard has stopped and goo.apps has stopped. I would hit okay, but the two messages just kept popping up. I restored my stock rom, but id still like to flash cyanogen and I need to know what I need to do to prevent this from happening again and how to restart the flash process. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

before you flashed the rom did you wipe data and cache? you might also be on the nightly version, try looking for the stable version, and if its on 10.1 its on 10.1, theres nothing you can do but wait for it to become stable if it isent already.

Everything was wiped. what I think happened was when I backed everything up, I didn't set titanium to not restore my app data, causing a bootloop. I could be very wrong about that though. What I need to know is how to reflash it, as I have already tried to but when I do it brings up system recovery instead of reflashing. Is it because I already tried flashing it once? and if that's the case how do I start from scratch? Oh, and I did flash the stable version. it was 10.1.2

might want to try flashing a stock rom via odin cause it sounds like you have stock recovery now, i dont know if anyone will pick you up in the q&a section, since yours is us cellular i dont think they have a forum for that specific contractor just only t-mobile at&t and verizon would have one. you can ask them in their q&a but tell them your situation and that your on us cellular. good luck mate. if ya have any questions just ask right here.

[Q] XT926 Stuck on 11/07 CM 11

I have an XT926 running KKBL CM11 nightlies and have been updating through Cyandelta since Towelroot gave me an unlocked bootloader (thanks Geo). I have been updating without issue until the 11/07 nightly. Ever since then, Cyandelta shows no updates but if I go through the CM Updater, it shows all of the updates released for the moto_msm8960. If I try to apply any of these updates outside of Cyandelta (either through CM Updater or flashing full zip through recovery), I can boot my phone but will start getting a persistent error saying "There's a problem with com.android.phone process and it has to close" or something to that effect. I have tried wiping both caches and even doing factory resets but the process crashing starts back within a few minutes of getting everything set up. I did notice that even though I did a factory reset, all of the apps I have installed still had data from before the wipe so I feel like the wipe is missing something that is causing the crash(?). I've been using custom ROMs for a while on a few different devices but this is the first time I've ran across this. Any advice?
Nuke and pave.
Something is stuck and vaguely familiar to me but at this point, if it were me, that's what I would do. Just time consuming.

I've never had to go further than a factory reset before. Which partitions should I format?
I'd format system, data, cache and dalvik. Definitely time to flash clean.
When I had my XT926, I also found that after so many updates via Cyandelta, that I would get the same issue. I would then go back, clean flash the latest update and things would be good. I eventually stopped using Cyandelta altogether. It's a nice idea, but I just don't know if I completely trust its abilities in determining what to bring down and what not to. I'd rather go with the CM updater instead. Yeah, it means longer downloads, but which is longer: downloading the full update from CM and having it work, or downloading via Cyandelta and then having to wipe clean, install and then restore all your backups?

Yup, but I stated in my post (where I said my goodbyes), that I would still hang around and help out. I know there are a lot of people still on this phone, especially with CM12 now running on it.
But, loving my G3. Still on stock, though (4.4.2), but I have no reason to go to anything else right now. Runs smooth, but it is rooted so I can run TiBu and also enable SD writing. But, I have no other reason to go to CM12 at this time.
I can get at LEAST one day if not more. Usually, after 24 hours, I'm right around 50% on battery. I probably could go even longer, but definitely I get more battery life out this phone than I did on the XT926 (non-MAXX), but I was able to do the same on my non-MAXX, but only if I didn't use it much. With the G3, I can do quite a lot and make it through the day without having to recharge during the day. I love that!
In any case, I'm still lurking about these forums to see if anyone needs help.

Just rooted, froze apps, and now stuck on Verizon screen

I just rooted last night and everything was good... This morning all I did was freeze some of the stock Verizon apps, and the system crashed. Now when it reboots, it's stuck at the Verizon screen. I can access Bootloader/Recovery, and have tried "fastboot erase cache" but that hasn't fixed it. If I let it sit, I can hear notifications and stuff in the background (I also have MightyText installed, and can send/receive texts via that), so Android is running in the background - it's just "stuck" on this Verizon screen. I'd really rather not have to do a factory reset, since I just spent last night getting everything set back up from the root process.
Any suggestions? Please help!
Uncertain. Just a shot in the dark but which recovery do you have? Have you tried doing a "fix permissions" within it?

TWRP. Just did that now, no changes.
You may have froze something you shouldn't have. At this point, I'd personally do a full wipe and reflash the ROM. If not on a ROM and on the stock RUU ROM. I would:
1) consider flashing a stock based ROM:
This ROM is 100% stock based off RUU -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-4-17-605-9-stock-resources-firmware-t3196906
2) run RUU again, and freeze one app at a time to narrow down what may have caused this.
3) you can try a wipe of just cache/dalvik cache

Thanks, yeah I just wiped and flashed a ROM. I needed my phone running in the next two hours, and didn't have the time to investigate. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Next time when you're cleaning out Verizon bloat, don't take out anything that you're not sure of.
Leave in there: VZWAPN and vzwdummylibs if you dump any Verizon apps.
Besides being able to start the phone, it's got to be able to send and receive calls. I have learned this thru bad decisions and their results.....

Apps stop working

Hello everyone
I broke my phone so I took one of my friend's old Nexus 5 which was not working and I tried to make it work.
However, I'm a complete noob. The phone wasn't turning on, so I used Nexus Root Toolkit in order to flash Android 6.0.1 M4B30Z
I had a lot of troubles, got stuck in booting loops and I couldn't solve it, even by wiping the phone over and over. So I finaly decided to flash Pure Nexus Hammerhead, and the phone finaly turned on.
However, all the apps are crashing (I'm not talking about store apps, but the one on the phone. Let's say I want to go in my settings, then the "settings" app will crash.
Sometimes, apps don't crash but the phone just freezes.
I don't know what to do anymore, that's why I resquest your help. What should I do to have a working phone ?
Thanks

Sounds like you need to clean flash, factory reset as well as wipe system in advanced wipe in twrp before flashing ROM and gapps (I recommend Beans gapps minimal, not the full package) Make sure to wipe caches after flashing. Also make sure you're flashing an up to date build of Pure Nexus https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-pure-nexus-substratum-t3477787
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-dynamic-gapps-t3487192
Hello,
So I went to TWRP and clicked "Wipe", checked everything and restarted. Now I only have the "Google" screen displaying, and I'm not sure what to do to solve that
