Kind of defeats the purpose of having a top of the line 4G phone to be using it on EDGE doesnt it?????

don't worry, in a year or so, (after the hostile take over) there will be devices that support the whole spectrum that TMO & ATT supports

i was thinking the same thing, after att takes over..probably the new devices will have a wide 3g/4g spectrum, att has alway says that they need the aws from tmbile 1700/2100
Seeing as inzaneip has a Fido (Canada) symbol, I would not be surprised if this "Sensation 4G" is actually the Bell Canada model that works full speed on AT&T.
Another thing it consider is that if you do manage to get the HTC Sensation 4G (Bell/ Canadian Version) that has the 850/1900 Mhz bands, will ATT detect that you are using a smartphone and automatically give you the 30 dollar 2GB limited data plan which you cannot get rid of?
I currently use a Samsung Vibrant on ATT and only have a 15 dollar unlimited data plan. However the Vibrant has 850/2100 Mhz bands in which the 850 mhz is the onle that i use to get data. However, I feel that data fluctuates way too much from location to location. It jumps from edge to 3g to 4g back to edge within a block. Also, there are known reception issues with the Samsung Vibrant (kind of like the death grip on the iphone 4). I am also one of those people considering a HTC Sensation 4G (bell version) or the HTC Incredible S as a substitute IF ATT does not charge me the 30 dollar limited data plan.
Shouldn't happen
I got away with the dumbphone data plan for a long while on my Nexus One until Google gave AT&T the IMEI numbers and they realized I had a smartphone... So as long as AT&T doesn't recognize the IMEI it could be a Motorola V3c with some wicked data usage for all they know!
Do you think ATT will recognize the Bell version of the Sensation because the HSDPA runs on the same bands and I think it was either Bell or Rogers that had some relation with ATT? Not sure if they gave ATT the IMEI numbers though...
The general pattern seems to be:
If your unlocked phone is a model NOT sold by AT&T in the USA, nor is it an iPhone or Nexus, then AT&T won't recognize it as a smartphone.
If it's a model also sold by AT&T, albeit from a Canadian carrier (e.g. a Bell Atrix or Rogers Infuse), there's some chance they might recognize it. The Sensation and the Incredible S are probably safe.
Also the TMo Vibrant has 1900 3G but not 850. It has poorer building penetration than 850, so it's not surprising that the 3G drops out a lot.

That sounds pretty practical. I'm looking to buy an HTC phone that has both the 3g Bands for ATT. But with that vague merging between T-Mo and AT&T, not sure if it would really matter in the near future.
The merger should not affect compatibility of phones that today already work on AT&T 3G. Be aware the Bell Sensation does *not* have the T-Mobile AWS band if you were thinking you wanted something for both networks at once.
Yea, I'm well aware of that. T-Mobile sucks around my house because I have a big tree in front. I'm only concerned about AT&T but thanks for the warning.

Network doesn't work.

Hello I have clean rom 5.1 and I don'tget network that I bought.I don't get 2g or edge.On stock it showed E but the network didn't work now on clean rom all I get is signal bars.BTW I'm unlocked on a polish network and it works on my other phone.Any fix for this?Thx

How am I supposed to do that? I downloaded apn manager and picked my service. But the E didn't come up.There isn't any apn in the original (mobile settings). But on my htc desire there are 2apn networks and if I pick one then the internet is great.Would a different rom work? What's your suggestion?thx
Nobody knows a rom that works with Tmobile network and other gsm apns??? Thx.

Depends on the ROM. The devs will include the APNs for whatever provider they want, or by request. If your carrier is not included, you can easily enter one manually (create a new APN and simply input the various parameters). Google for your providers APN settings, or call your provider and they should give them to you. Not sure why the APN manager you tried didn't work, I've never tried an app like that. Possible the app just has the wrong settings.
Thank you for the reply. I just don't understand why my desire automatically has apn and it doesn't work. But on cleanrom my apns don't work.Do you guys know any working gsm network Rom? Would be happy if 3g would work but still I'm gonna be happy with edge.
Is your Desire running the stock ROM from your carrier? If so, they pre-configure the APN info on the phones they sell.
APN settings are different for every carrier. For custom ROMs, the dev can't include every APN for every carrier in the world. They will typically include the ones they think are popular, or by request.
ny ROM should work, as long as you have a model that is compatible with your carrier's frequencies, its not SIM locked, and you enter the right APN info.
Also, what version of the One X do you have? Can you make voice calls?

I can't tell from the info you've provided. I ask again what version of the phone do you have?
If your version has the right 3G band compatibility with your local carrier, and you have the right APN, it should work. According to the following, Poland uses 2100 MHz for 3G. It doesn't list anything for 4G. You sure your carrier offers 4G? http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
I have a unlocked att one x if thats what you mean by version.I'm not sure if I have 4g but 3g for sure just didn't buy it yet cause I'm afraid it won't work.Btw its polish tmobile.
Yes, if its AT&T version of the One X, it has the 2100 MHz 3G band. So it should work fine on your carrier's 3G network as long as they use 2100 MHz (the website I linked above stated 2100 MHz is used in Poland). Most of Europe is 2100 MHz, so its probably correct. I don't think 4G (such as LTE) is widely deployed in Europe yet. So you probably won't get LTE regardless.
APN setting is the problem

[Q] HTC 8X unlocked sim free international on AT&T 3G

Picked up htc 8x international to use on at&t 3G u.s.
having issues
1. At&t 3G data doesn't work well. Seems to have issues keeping connection
2. Search doesn't work well. Again on at&t 3G, can't use voice search but voice search works on tmo and WiFi
3. No mms even after manually setting apn
4. Manually set apn for both data and mms
5. Tethering checks for provisioning
6. This is 3/4G device, but doesn't work well on at&t
any suggestions?

KJ, what APN settings are you using? I went through half a dozen before I finally got the right ones. Also, any idea what the exact model of the phone is?
I used the more popular ones, I think.

I've found by selecting the other carriers in the connection setup some things start to work.
How do I get the model #?
It's is sim free from UK. No branding but behaves as if its branded
What apn worked for you for windows 8 and at&t 3G?
Search doesn't work consistently on mobile 3G on at&t. Not happy with purchase.
T-mo works well but using 4G t-mo service. No issues.
Try this one;
MMS APN
Access Point Name: pta
WAP Gateway (URL): proxy.mobile.att.net
WAP Gateway port: 80
MMSC address: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
To find the model number go to Settings>About and it's under phone information.
The problem with the unlocked phones is that even though they are unlocked, they still have the original carrier firmware and as far as I know, there are only a couple of models that you can flash with a stock HTC rom. You may be in luck since it is a European model. You can take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137556.
Anyway, good luck to you. It's a great phone.

[Q] Unlocked One S on Straight Talk - stuck at 2g speed

I have a straight talk AT&T micro-sim that I was using in my wife's AT&T iPhone 4 (unlocked but shouldn't matter) which was configured with the att.mvno APN. 3G data and MMS worked wonderfully. Now I have taken the same SIM and put it into a T-Mobile HTC One S and I cannot get 3g, let alone 4g, data to work. MMS is functioning and 2g data works. I have unlocked the bootloader via the HTC Dev method, rooted the stock ROM, and I have SIM unlocked the phone using ascot17's method on this site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491). I have tried the att.mvno APN setting (works, but only 2g data) and the newer tfdata APN setting, which gets me NO connection at all. The funny thing is, when I reboot the phone, it shows 4G data for about a minute, and if I run the speedtest app, it gets 4-6mb down speed which is about right for 4g in my area (Janesville, WI). After about a minute, it switches to 2g. I have also contacted HTC (no help, they say it's a network issue) and Straight Talk (no help, they walk me through APN changes and then claim I need to contact the manufacturer). Has anyone had any luck getting the One S to use 3g or 4g on Straight Talk? Would I be better served to get a T-Mobile SIM? Is it worth trying to flash a custom ROM instead of my rooted stock or is that a waste of time?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
