Unplug your phone from everything & switch it off.
Next hold volume down & press power - this should take you to the bootloader.
Plug in your phone & run these commands via a command shell on your PC (make sure fastboot is installed)

HI all I have seen many users on internet who had bricked their phone by rooting.(I was also the one  )
I will tell u how to unbrick your phone and bring it back to working state.
(I am not responsible for any damage to your phone. I have tried it on my cell and finished successfully)
You would be requiring Motorola USB drivers. You can download it from official website.
Steps:
1. Install RSD Lite v5.6(Link attached) and open it.
2. Take your phone in your hand connect to your windows PC via USB cable holding volume down (-) and camera button.
3. Once you see the boot-loader screen on your phone see if it's showing up in RSD.
4. If it is then you are ready to bring back your phone to working mode.
5. Extract the ROM you downloaded before in your pc using winrar.
6. Go back to RSD and navigate it to the file you just extracted.
7. If your device shows up and Rom loads in RSD then you are just a click away.
8. Finally click on start.
9. It will start flashing rom and within 4-5 minutes your phone will be working fine.
10. After disconnecting your phone, it will be in FTM mode. Just hold Volume up(+) and power button it'll restart the device.
Warning : It wipes all your data in phone memory including contacts, apps and messages.
Note : Do this if and only if RSD stuck for more than 5 minutes.
Its being very rare but if you get this problem that in the end after your phone gets in FTM mode and the process In RSD stuck on Executed 100%. Don't worry just unplug your phone, remove battery, keep it for 5-10 seconds place battery and again connect it and start boot loader mode as you started above. It will show finish.
All I want is you to click on THANKS
So it will increase my encourage me to post new threads.
If you face any problem please reply or message.
The whole process doesn't take more than five minutes.
Good luck. And reply me back your experience.

I tried it. My phone does not seem to go into download mode. Any idea why? I held down the three keys for more than 5 minutes, but the white lights just keep showing. Nothing else happens.
Update: The phone screen turned on after a few minutes of holding down the buttons. It shows a screen where there's a battery icon. I believe the phone was severely drained. No other reason for it. But why didn't the screen show when I had plugged it into the computer yesterday or when I tried charging it for hours long back?
I'll keep you posted when the phone turns on.
I think it's some hardware error you got.
I too had the same problem you have.
I returned it to the sc they replaced it's motherboard.
But I think your phone turned on for a reason known as stack charging.
It is cycle of continous charging. Let it charge and ensure that battery is more than 70%.
Then you can perform this procedure.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this, or at least get the data from the internal USB storage?

Is there a chance to get the device 'online' by adb?

Hey there,
I am Nexus 5 user. Recently I updated my phone to Lolipop 5.0.1. At first the phone worked fine. A few days later the background apps started restarting. That was still manageable. A week back the phone started restarting. So I read about in a Google Forum, it advised to delete partition cache from the 'Recovery Mode' . I did so. It worked and phone stopped restarting. Now a week later the problem started again. So I wiped partition cache. But during the process the battery ran out and the phone switched off.
Now when I try to switch on the phone, the Google logo appears and then the phone freezes in the boot animation.
The phone boots into bootloader(power button + volume up + volume down), but when I try to get into Recovery Mode, an android is displayed with a red exclamation mark.
The bootloader is locked, so I can't flash the original image.
Need help to get the phone back.
Additional info about the device:
a. Nexus 5 32GB
b. Lolipop 5.0.1
c. Locked bootloader/ unrooted
d. Still in warranty.
The dead android is recovery mode. When you see that press and hold the power button then press and release vol up. Try a factory reset in there. Note, it will wipe your device so backup first if you can.

I think you're going to have to unlock the bootloader and flash the factory image. If that doesn't work then you have a hardware issue.

If it doesn't turn on there is nothing you can do. You need to be able to boot into the bootloader. Usb debugging doesn't matter. You don't need it on to run fastboot commands.

Google 15 second adb install xda. That'll setup adb and fastboot on your pc. Then boot the device into the bootloader, open a command window on your pc and then with your device connected via usb cable type into the command window

You don't need to get into recovery. Boot into the bootloader, unlock it, then flash the factory image. All that is done in the bootloader, not recovery.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
There is little confusion here @ShobhitJethani. Let's make things clear.
Bootloader mode (or fastboot mode) is when you press and hold volume_down+power keys.
Recovery mode is when you select the recovery mode with the power key in the bootloader mode.
To enable the menu options in stock recovery you have to PRESS and HOLD the POWER key and while you do that you just PRESS the VOLUME_UP key and then you RELEASE the VOLUME_UP key and then you can RELEASE the POWER key too.
What you did is starting to press and hold volume _up and power keys at the same time which is wrong.
Also, to unlock bootloader you just have to put the phone to bootloader mode. You dont have to do anything special before that.
I hope you now understand.
I somehow managed to remove the tamper flag and then gave it to the service center. They flashed KitKat on the phone. And now I also have updated my phone to 5.1 OTA. Thanks to everyone for trying to help me.
My Desire S no longer connects to PC and so in my enthusiasm to try a cm12 ROM I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1764398 and tried to install TWRP recovery via Terminal Emulator but there was an error "insufficient space on disk" or something like that. In my curiosity I typed "reboot bootloader" and the phone went dead (not even the HTC Logo shows up). While connecting the charger the LED lights up. If I press power+volume up the LED lights up even if there is no charger connected. Is there any way to get it back to life?
