OJC Rootable? If so, which Method? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I used to have another S6, but cracked the screen and sold it. I have finally recieved an insurance replacement unit. But it seems to be on the newest firmware G920T OJC 5.1.1 I just thought I should check before tinkering if this is rootable, and which methods work. I don't really mind tripping knox, and losing pay since I never use it and it was only a $175 deductible replacement unit (IKR ) So I was looking to just ODIN flash unikernel and twrp the classic way. Should I go that route?

Theres a new CF Auto Root for 5.1.1 on G920T but i'd go for UniKernel because its better than stock kernel.

Thanks! I just flash the unikernel via Odin and that roots it right?

Yup, but remember, always do a backup. If anything does go wrong, I would suggest downloading Stock ROM and root through CF Auto Root.

i am thinking to get the s6 and i dont think i can give up on root so i heard there is a root method pingpong does not trip knox if i do it
can i install custom recovery on it without tripping knox or anything else on download mode
if i restore to stock will everything stays the same?
thank you in advance
You can root without tripping the KNOX with Ping Pong Root , but if you flash unsigned software like custom recovery or custom ROM the knox will trip and you will loose the warranty.

There is something strange about knox. I flashed BTU(UK) stock ROM on my XXV(vietnam) SM-920F brand new phone using odin 3.10.6. And hell, knox is tripped now. Strange? Anybody any clues?

I'm so glad i saw this, i was about to do the same. Got all my backups ready to flash and wipe to change the CSC to BTU (from EVR). So your KNOX has tripped, how was this confirmed?
Were you able to do anything since tripping it?
Thanks

Nothing much. Once knox is tripped. Its tripped. There is nothing one can do about it.
Can I Update S6 via Odin
I have S6 (SN-G92F)
Made in Vietnam
Original CSC code "ECT"
Active CSC code "ECT"
Knox Warranty void 0*0
CSC Country Nigeria/NG
CSC version

Android version 5.0.2
When I tried to OTA update, it shows "already latest OS installed"
I have tried to update it through smart switch, but it updated to the same version.

Yes there is root, flash the kernel from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395 using Odin and then flash twrp 2.8.7.1 using flashify or Odin.
I have had root on 5.1.1 since last weekend.
Is there any faster way to get this firmware?
Now, I am downloading from samsung updates but it's too slow and will be taken 8 hours. Can I get the firm. through any cloud share?

Easiest way to root G920F on 5.1.1

I made the error of upgrading to 5.1.1 (S6 on EE) before rooting and now I understand Ping Pong won't work?
So can someone suggest the easiest way to root? I'd rather not trip knox but I will if I need to.
I saw a post about rooting without tripping knox but it lost the fingerprint scanner and I'd rather not lose any functionality.
Thanks!
I have the same question. I don't need samsung pay, but I don't want to broke the fingerprint sensor.

Flashing TWRP through Odin is really easy:
Run Odin
put your phone in d/l mode and connect it
choose the TWRP file to flash
press start
After that, you have got a custom recovery menu from where you can install a clean ROM or a custom kernel.
Literallly, the whole procedure takes just 2 clicks in Odin and 1 Minute.
Make sure you use the latest version of both Odin and TWRP and you're fine; i reinstalled some Samsung apps and features like fingerprint scanner; working flawless.

Does it "trip" KNOX?
Edit: Yep, it does for those wondering.
The way I get root is to flash via Odin, Unikernel then you will have root on your stock rom. If you then want a custom recovery I use Flashify from the playstore to flash twrp recovery, it's so easy and so quick and works on firmware 5.0.2 and the latest 5.1.1
Thanks for the advice all, will this wipe all my data during the process?

No but it will trip knox.
Thanks to all, the ODIN method worked a treat, very easy and quick and didn't lose any of my data.
Coming back to this, I just noticed that this method of root has changed SELinux to permissive. Why is that? I'm not too up on these things but doesn't that mean it is less protected from malware?

Not able to root or install TWRP on Galaxy S6 5.1.1 (SM-G920I) at all.

Hi everyone,
Trying to root my Galaxy s6 SM-G920I India version but no luck. Had to restore stock firmware thrice today. Every time I used ODIN 3.10.6 with Unibase or Unikernal it would say kernel is not SEAndroid enforcing and stick to a bootloop. If I use the CF auto root method it says Recovery is not SEAndroid enforcing and again bootloop.
Trying the alternative method of installing TWRP also does not work and I get the same recovery enforcing message and bootloop. Please help. R/L is off.
I had the same problem with Indian firmware. The latest one.
I quit trying to get root.

I tried this method on this website but no luck.????
There is a thread on xda about how to root DOL5 formware by an INDIAN USER USING G925I.
Not all had success with it. I would suggest sticking with DOK9 firmware and wait for a few days as android 6.0.1 has started rolling already in Korea for s6(both variants)
The changes between DOK9 and DOL5 is not huge and not worth an upgrade

G900P MM downgrade

HI I was wondering if anyone could help verify that the downgrade is possible from 6.0 to 5.0 OK4. I used Odin to flash the stock OK4 firmware to my phone when I was on the 6.0MM firmware and I just want some one that is willing to test what I did just to verify that I wasn't just lucky.
What I did was while on 6.0 I setup ADB for the phone, rebooted to download mode and used Odin3-v3.10.6 to flash G900PVPU3BOK4_G900PSPT3BOK4_G900PVPU3BOK4_HOME.tar (got this from sammobile). When phone rebooted it got stuck at the boost logo screen for longer than I liked so I used "ADB reboot recovery" command and in recovery did a factory reset and then booted into system and I am having no issues. So can some one else test this so that I know it is a 100% way to downgrade?
I just flashed the OK4 tar via odin to go back to stock and take the MM update again. I wiped everything but internal and external storage in TWRP first. It's currently downloading the MM update.
i've successfully taken the PCA update twice, and used ODIN to go back to OK4 and update once again.
the bootloader does not appear to lock firmware.

Correct, because when you odin OK4 it restores the stock recovery and everything else etc, so everything is stock again, system status is official etc. then you can either download the OTA as normal or take the zip from your thread and update from stock recovery. i've done it both methods.

I can also confirm that too, I just did a downgrade to OK4, after I unsuccessfully tried to downgrade to OA6. I assume that pyrochance (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66266625&postcount=138) is right.

Are you rooted? I'm not rooted, and from BOK4 I was not able to downgrade via Odin to an earlier firmware that supports towelroot. I am now on Android 6 (OTA). Question - on Android 6 is it now possible to downgrade to an earlier firmware (without root, and without tripping knox)? If so is it only to BOK4? Thanks in advance.

Yes. You can only downgrade to OK4. If you weren't able to go to a previous version when on OK4 why would you be able to once beyond it?

Thanks Kreatur3, was thinking that with the new firmware they might have relaxed their restriction on downgrading. I would think that with any new official firmware, they could pretty much do whatever they want, like even take out all protections and allow you to root without tripping knox (which I know they wouldn't), or am I misunderstanding something?

They could allow it but won't. It's obvious with the direction they are going with the s7. I can see why maybe providers don't want you to have that power but don't know why the manufacturer cares. Beyond the pressure from cell phone companies. I don't care about knox personally. I'm way beyond the warranty period and trip it every time the day I gety phones.

I'm having a bit of trouble. I was on MM, then the phone started freezing up. So I went back to OK4 but I can't get past the Samsung boot up logo. It stays on there forever and doesn't move past it. I even tried to replays through Odin multiple times but still not working. I'm stuck.
