Make Hardware keyboard act as soft touch keyboard - General Questions and Answers

I have a Motorola Photon Q. In some of the apps/games I use, it won't allow for any input from the hardware keyboard. Is there anyway to make the hardware keyboard act as the soft touch keyboard?

Issues with soft keyboards

I have tried a number of soft keyboards - SpbKeyboard, FingerKeyboard2, PCM Keyboard, as potential replacements for the hardware keyboard, or even the soft keyboard that comes with the device. I have two issues with them all, and I wonder if others in this forum share this view or have a way round the issues:
The fact that none of them has readily accessible arrow buttons makes them clumsy. If I need to move the cursor to a particular position, in many cases, I would have to use the stylus; this defeats the purpose. If the x7510 had a joystick it would not be a problem, but it doesn't. FingerKeyboard2 does have arrows, but you would have to press two other keys to bring up the arrow keys.
The second issue is related to the first: When filling a form on the screen, the keyboards often cover the entry fields. Because there are no readily accessible arrow keys, I often have to set aside the soft keyboard for either the hardware keyboard or the stock keyboard.
Any ideas on how to get round these issues, or is there a soft keyboard that addresses them?
I can highly recommend TouchPal from Cootek
Its word completion is second to none (but needs a little learning!) and it has access to arrow keys via the navigation screen (there are screens for alpha, numeric, special and navigation all selectable from a row of icons)
It doesn't always move the underlying screen up so you can see what you are typing, but is better than Fingertouch, and at least you have all the navi and editing keys to hand.
Currently costs $9.75 using the promo code SPM2TP
I have used Resco Keyboard until now because the keys are so large that even my large fingers can cope easily. However I sorely miss having arrowkeys, punctuation (comma and period) and also ctrl on the top screen, so when I want to write quickly I often end up with the extremely tiny and sucky standard wm keyboard which is kind of ironic when I installed the other keyboard for ease of use. So right now I'm looking for a better alternative.
As above- TouchPal has a screen dedicated to navigation and text management, so although it doesn't have a Ctrl key, it does have buttons for Cut/Copy/Paste etc and it has common punctuation on the main keyboard screen.
I always find it annoying when the soft keyboard covers the screen in browsers, especially when I'm using the hardware keyboard. Is there a way to disable the software keyboard from popping up unless requested?

[Q] Send event to IME/soft keyboard

I'm running CM7 which has the ability to interface with Bluetooth keyboards. I have a Bluetooth numeric keypad, and it correctly syncs with my EVO. The key scancodes are accurately detected once synced.
Basically, I wanted to know if it is possible to send an event to a soft keyboard. The HTC soft keyboard IME has a T9 keyboard setting, and I wanted to link the scancodes of my physical keypad to the T9 softkeys. However, I don't have any idea how to interact with the soft keyboard IME and set up a key map. If anyone has some ideas, that would be most helpful.
Thanks!

[Q] Slide it in combination with the dock

Hi,
I'm a big fan of SlideIT so i installed it on my tab as well.
Now, i'm a belgian user so my keyboard is Azerty. In slideit i can pick an Azerty layout; so far so good.
However, when i plug the tab into the dock (which is also azerty btw), the tab complains that the keyboard should be set to the standard layout to assure consistency with the hardware of the keyboard (but i want to keep using slideit)
unortunately, the end result is that the keyboard now reverts to qwerty mode ... (which is very strange if you think about since both the software (slideit) and hardware (dock) are azerty...
i've solved this partially by editing the keyboard layout file and remapping buttons but only for the most important keys and can't be bothered doing it for all of them...
anyone know of a more elegant solution?

[Q] Custom touch keyboard with hardware keyboard dock

Hi, I need to use a Norwegian touch keyboard, and since the ASUS one doesn't have norwegian letters, I will find a new one. However, when a non-ASUS keyboard is activated, the Norwegian letters on the hardware (dock) keyboard stops functioning!
Is this really how it is designed - only one touch keyboard is allowed, because the hardware keyboard won't work otherwise?? Or is there a solution? Maybe a program that changes touch keyboard when the hardware keyboard is plugged/unplugged...

My bluetooth gamepad disables my on-screen keyboard. How can I use both?

I just bought an iPega 9023 gamepad for my Note 4 (rooted stock 5.1.1), and while it is awesome, it completely disables my on-screen keyboard in all apps while connected. This happens whether the gamepad is paried in keyboard mode (where that would make sense) or gamepad mode (where it doesn't make any sense at all).
As long as the gamepad is connected, any time I tap on any text field expecting the keyboard to show up, nothing shows up, or in the case of Swiftkey, only the suggestion bar shows up on the bottom of the screen, no keys. Doesn't matter what keyboard I use, even hacker's keyboard gets disabled.
How can I use my gamepad and use the on screen keyboard at the same time?
