Marshmallow 6.0.1 for LG G Stylo - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

Do you think that the LG G Stylo will receive Android 6.0 and Android 6.0.1? I know the variant from T-mobile will get the updates, they have confirmed that, but will the Stylo's on Metro PCS get them too? Its exactly the same phone. Metro PCS fb reps won't comment on this.

yep, they bought it about what two years ago or so now.

So now the question is.... How long do we wait.. Any ideas?

Their comments on it. I don't think the customer reps know much anyways though...

Well I think I need to switch to metro then. No word on boost love. There's nothing to lose. And I'll gain an extra gb of ram

Boost and sprint are getting the marshmallow update zv7. Don't know about T-Mobile and metro

Just grabbed a Boost Stylo today for a decent price, installed the rooted system image from 6th_Hokage and have it working fairly well after freezing out a lot of stuff but even so the RAM usage seems pretty excessive with not much going on - this is with no apps running after a reboot and at about 1 min I started up System Monitor Lite to take a peek:
I mean, I've gutted it of most everything I can that could interfere with the startup and suck out the RAM en mass so, I suppose it'll work itself out. Not bad performance I suppose but of course the Boost/Sprint variants of the Stylo are handicapped for no good reason with 1GB of RAM and when I had a MetroPCS variant a few weeks ago it was very noticeable in terms of overall performance.
Anyway, I just noticed this Marshmallow info over at another site so it's pretty cool to see it being pushed from Boost just before the end of the year, pretty cool indeed. I don't know if I'll bother with it at this point since root is a must and I'm not sure if or when we'll see it for Android 6.0.1 on this device (LS770). Will be nice to see if there's any improvement in this after-boot RAM usage as well, especially after some removal of some bloatware whenever it happens.
Will be interesting to see how things progress now that it's finally here, definitely.

according to T-Mobile's software update tracking site the Stylo is confirmed for getting a 6.0 update, although they haven't really given a timeframe for it. It's currently listed as "Manufacturer Development" which means that they most likely haven't started their own testing on it just yet. My best guess is that we'll see it come before Q2 of next year on T-Mobile, and possibly a similar timeframe for MetroPCS as well (since they're a child company of T-Mobile).
Can't really say for the Boost/Virgin/Cricket models though. Sprint already has 6.0 pushed to the Stylo in some markets and is supposedly rolling them out across more now. And since Boost and Virgin are child companies of Sprint, they'll probably also see an update soon.

It will probably be soon. They can't roll out updates to everyone all at once. They usually do it by region.

Ehh....warned my bro that has my rooted Stylo not to except any system updates....hopefully we can crack that update soon

If it's rooted it shouldn't accept any updates, at least that's how most every phone running Android is these days: any tampering or changes to the system partition (which obviously flashing your rooted system img does) should prevent the OTA check from being successful. At least that's how it is on some other devices I've owned in the past 1.5 years - if the device ain't pure 100% bone stock with no mods done at all the OTA's usually just don't even happen but, this could be different, I don't know but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

So is that 6.0.1 marshmallow or just 6.0. What variant do you have (boost)? Just curious

[Q] Lolipop Update

Hi, I'll be quick,

I have received the update yesterday and i'm also using fido in the montreal area. My advice: stay away from this update for the moment. Lots of bugs.... will probably flash back the 4.4 image tomorrow and will wait for 5.1 instead.
My son just got the OTA on Telus this afternoon. Be patient, you will get it.

believe me, you don't want to update.... be patient and wait for 5.1. lots of issues in 5.0. Android L is great in general, but with all those bugs, it doesn't worth it for now. Actually I can't even charge my phone unless I turn it off...
And there is nothing wrong, google said it could take many weeks before all N5 get the update.

Any metod to update H950 ATT To 5.1.1 OUTSIDE of USA ?

Im searching something To update lg g flex 2 h950 to 5.1.1 WITHOUT OTA because im outside of usa... Can someone help me?
Me too, man. Me too. Hopefully we can collectively figure out how to do this!

ATT phones require an authorized SIM to access their OTA server. Without one you're out of luck unless someone captures the file from the update, and uploads it. Based on other posts Big Blue hasn't published the tot file publicly for their users on their site yet.
If someone roots after downloading the OTA the file might remain, then they can pull it from /cache or whichever directory LG stores updates on this model.
(A similar method was used to help G2 users that didn't have an ATT card for their D800. )

Didn't see your guide yet, but hopefully those people will post their results soon. I would like to get this phone maybe next year when the price drops further, and having access to updates is important b/c development is basically dead & LG has no plans to unlock the loader.

So from snooping around in anticipation of getting my flex 2 and knowing that an update from ATT is probably not gonna happen using the phone up here in Canada I came across this idea.
http://webtrickz.com/how-to-update-lg-g2-to-official-lollipop-os/
@Sj12345 I take it that this is the procedure you were talking about trying to for the OTA update you captured?
It seems quite straightforward to me! Definitely got me more excited. I want to have that 5.1.1 goodness to bask in like the rest of you here in our little curved community. [emoji2]

Yes, it is basically that we need to do but I was trying to copy the files using download mode, unfortunately the system deleted the files when you reboot, so you need root and update with root is dangerous XD who wanna be the tester

I didn't see anything posted or i may have missed it, but can you use someone's sim card that is with ATT just to get the update and then swap back to TMobile cell? Or does it have to be used for a certain amount of time with ATT?
thank you,

You should be able to pop in an active AT&T sim, turn on your phone, and check for an update, and then swap back to your Tmo sim no problem.
There's in no time limit, but the problem you might run into is updates don't get automatically pushed out even if available and even if you check. They get rolled out by region or some other formula, so sometimes you have to call ATT support and ask them to push it to your phone, which you can't do since you'd be borrowing a friends ATT sim.
The other problem is you can only check for an update once every 24 hours, so you kind of only get one shot with a friends ATT sim. People get around this by manually setting the date forward and re-checking. Lastly, the most recent ATT update was just released September 3rd. They roll out slowly, so you often can't pull them when manually checking for an update right after a release because they are still rolling out per whatever formula ATT uses.
The more time that passes after ATT releases new software update-- say at least a few weeks -- the more likelihood you'll have success checking for an update with a friend's ATT sim because they've already rolled out and, hopefully, they are just available on demand.
(Disclaimer: This is all my best guess/understanding. I'm no authority and certainly welcome anybody correcting me).
Thanks for the answer. I get my phone next friday so will see if it picks it up.
Thanks
D
I'm on cricket wireless so I got tired of doing all these tricks for the update and lost my patience. I flashed to the Puerto Rico version of 5.1.1 and it worked. Got rid of all AT&T crap and updated me from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. As always beware that there are risks involved and you may end up with a brick. Here's the thread where you'll find instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3180847

Unlocked US LG V20 Updated At Long Last, What's in the OTA?

I couldn't find anything anywhere online about this OTA that I got yesterday on my US996, no record of it ever existing. So I asked LG about it and this was their response. I haven't applied the update yet, but will update this post if I notice anything other than what LG stated. I will hold off for a while on installing it so if enough people want me to capture and share the OTA then I will.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsD3pGv5cv8
From what I see all I've noticed is the Nov 6 security patch which means blueborne and krack are fixed among other exploits, ARB is still 0 so can be rolled back if wanted for some reason. Cool that it adds rcs support, not that my carrier has support anyway
was there a point for a video? simple screenshot of the conversation would have sufficed
updated, and i can't use my sim card anymore, the phone detected sim card but no signal at all, got some extra buttons in dailer.

As I mentioned in another thread, after I installed the update, it listed "unknown version" for baseband and wouldn't connect to Verizon for a few minutes. Then the baseband version showed correctly and it connected.
Since baseband is a wholly separate CPU and OS, it's not clear what it was updating in the background, but it fixed itself eventually.

Obviously LG thinks that we don't need to know the details, just that LG has improved the usability and functionality of the phone, that's all we need to know. /s
From what I can tell, it's the same build of android, NRD90M, as before the update. So probably only has google supplied security patches.
As long as LG gives us US996 Unlocked users an Oreo update early next year, I'm OK with them not doing much with the original 7.0 firmware... but definitely security updates more than once per year would have been nice.
The "slower than" or "completely missing" compared to major carriers updates up until this one, has definitely been a disappointment since the factory unlocked version of the phone should be the easiest to get updates pushed out for.

9 coming soon or you be the judge.......

Hello, Kaluna, May i send you a private message?
I'd really like to see this phone get the 9 update. Hopefully, somebody out there still cares about messing with these old things and even if it does not roll out directly for all variants.... someone will hopefully modify it for versions such as the H910. Mine is a backup device and is unlocked from AT&T so there's no chance it will get an OTA update. It will have to be side loaded and flashed.
I see the v30 is getting there's today. Fingers crossed.

Good but to that good.
2 things:
1-LG has not mentioned that Pie will roll out for every LG V20 variant. As of today, it is only mentioned the F800 variants. The rest is still on the unknown territory.
2-Despite it is a good thing that we are getting pie (that is to say all pie features and somewhat updated security patch), from a talk I had with someone who is running the beta build on his F800 variant, LG didn't bother to restructure the partitions like system, boot, vendor, among others that would make the phone treble compatible (making it, in simple words, its very final update). Suffice is to say that this update is arriving to a very limited portion (until proven otherwise), also arrived way too late, and it didn't add something that would make this legend of a phone live for as long as it turns on (that is treble support).
Honestly, This has made me think not once, nor twice, nor three times, but MULTIPLE TIMES before ever buying an LG phone again.

But if it was only going to be for f800* model they would probably say that but in time and knowing in the past LG has made mistakes on some roms on other device's namly bootloader issues there probably make sure it is perfect......

Help with flashing note 20 ultra

I have an att variant that is unlocked. I've been using it with straight talk and would like to flash it to an "unlocked" variant instead of att. I don't want to root it. I have rooted previous galaxy phones but not ones that I don't want to trip knox so I can keep using samsung pay and stuff.
My main reason for doing this is after updating to one ui 4.1 it messed with my device and I'm unhappy with the results. Such as no data icon most times, but data still works. I can't get internet on devices with hotspot, which I could before the update no problem. I had to use a different APN to get data working again after the update as well, which I'm guessing is a major issue with the hotspot.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You
The unlocked variant likely isn't much different.
I have 2 N10+'s, one a N975U, and a N975U1.
Both have plenty of bloatware. The AT&T bloatware is easily package blocked.
The debloat list for both is near identical... disappointing and a bit surprising.
I take it you're on Android 12, roll back to 11. 10 would be better but the updated bootloader version likely won't allow it.

Could you point me in the direction of how to roll back Note 20 Ultra updates? The new updates broke my short cut maker app that let me change/choose bands and now it doesn't have permissions to access those secret settings.

If you're on Android 12 I think you can go back to 11 by reflashing the same version it had before.
Others have done it here so I think it's doable.
As long as the boot loader hasn't been upgraded too. I never had to reflash any of my Androids, I avoid it if at all possible.
I have 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10, I prefer Pie though. Unfortunately the one running on 10 can't be reflashed to 9 because of the boot loader version It's not that bad though... I guess.
