[Completed] Why won't the System folder from the root of my device show up on my PC? - XDA Assist

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Lollipop. When I connect the phone to the PC it shows two storage's, Phone and Card. According to root explorer, the phone storage directory is /storage/emulated/0 . I need to access the /system folder which is located at the root of my phone but the root of my phone won't show up on my PC. I just want to Deodex my phone but the deodexer software requires the system folder.

Because the user partition(sdcard/internal storage) and your extsdcard are the only things that can be accessed via PC file manager. If you want to manipulate system you'll have to use a different method.
You can use the device itself to copy the system folder to internal or external and then you can transfer it to PC.

[Q] Enter root as SD card from PC

Hi,
Some files from my efs folder were deleted (which resulted in corrupt imei, but thats another story) and I found a program that can restore deleted files from flash storage.
But the problem is that it sees only storage cards. (It sees the phone's storage if I mount it)
Is there a way to somehow mount the root of the device as a storage device? (I have the drivers of the device so I can access its root through adb or "android commander" but not through this program)
Sent from my imei messed up (half bricked)Nexus S using XDA App
Any help here?
I don't think so. Before you can mount the sd card on the computer, you have to unmount it on the phone. So in order to mount root on the computer, you might first have to first unmount root on the phone (not sure about this). I can imagine your phone having a small problem with this.
Could you copy the contents of root to the sd card (maybe in fastboot or recovery), and let the program work on the files there?

Gone Wrong Somewhere

Hi, I followed the instructions to install cynagen Mod, I used a new micro sd card
installed to the root , along with the google apps file , when I go to install zip from zipcard what shows up on my screen is
- Android/
- DCIM/
- LOST.DIR/
none of these dir have anything in them ,
where could the files be , where did i go wrong
thanks a bunch in advance
Hello Jazzygaz. It sounds like you have put the installation files (cyanogenmod7.zip and gapps.zip or whatever) on your external sdcard, but when you are trying to install them (through Clockworkmod I assume?) it is looking at your internal sdcard.
Try copying the files over to your internal sdcard's root directory (where the directories you mentioned showed up) and install from there instead. Use a root file explorer to copy the install files over, or remove the sdcard before putting it into mass storage and copy them from your PC. Remove your external sdcard before you power up the tablet to enter Clockwork.

ES File Mgr Issue With SD

I'm using ES File Manager to copy files from my computer to a new Note PRO. I can copy files to the internal storage but I can't copy to the external SD. Also, I cannot use ES File Manager to move files from internal storage to the SD. I can use the stock file manager to move files between internal and SD. So the questions are:
1) Can ES File Manager be made to copy files to the SD card?
2) If not, then can the stock file manager access Windows devices to copy files from the computer to the SD?
Likely the Kitkat SD write permission issue. See here:

Yep, that looks like it. Thank you. I'm not ready to root yet to solve the issue. I was not able to tell if this is a bug or by design. It's pretty limiting.
Still trying to figure out if the built-in file manager can be used to copy from a Windows computer to the SD card.
If you connect your tablet to your windows PC you should be able to access internal and external sdcard. They will show up as separate drives. If they don't, install Kies 3 then connect your tablet again.

I was hoping to get this done using wi-fi just for the convenience. It is something I did with previous devices. It always surprised when a basic feature goes away.
If you have an FTP server installed on your PC, My Files app can pull your files that way, then save them to external sdcard
ES File Explorer implemented the workaround within the first few days of KitKat's release. I've been using it to move files in all directions to and from my MicroSD on my Note 3, S5 and NotePro for months without issue. The main thing that doesn't work is renaming.
However, the WiFi transfer to MicroSD has been blocked by Google for security reasons after a series of WiFi-related file security problems. No file manager is capable of this without Root. Same as how you can no longer download files off the internet directly onto the MicroSD.
It's much faster to just pull out the MicroSD and plug it into a PC, anyway. The transfer protocols on Android are a nightmare.
