Transform my Pico in a portable player. - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hello guys,
I would need a lil help. after some years of using my htc i will soon have another glorious machine XD
So i was thinking in converting my htc into a simple media player. Mostly to use kodi for video/music playback & use the stock fm radio when needed. Maybe here & there some internet in case of emergency. So i would love if someone would help me choose one of the builds around to do it. Right now i am running 4.4.4 (sorry it was downloaded here but dont remember much for now), but my aim was to use a light one ( cause right now it uses alot of battery since its mostly running from the sd card). I wanted to strip everything i would not need like the 3g options, gsm, etc etc.
Can some1 give a lil help on this? =)

You can flash cody rom 9 by @thewisenerd if music is all you want because this is the latest version with working fm in my knowledge.

Also, to strip off GSM and everything, you can delete the phone and mms apks but I cannot guarantee that the APN settings will work after that m

well tyvm. still on the project. had lot of stuff to do around and 2 new android devices. But my pico player its a plan to be ready for my summer vaccations =) will work on it soon and then ill report

Hey there,
Kool no probs, the vogue is a reasonably old device and as such doesnt have a huge amount of memory.
Running the apps you mention will use a lot of memory esp if you have some other apps open.
If i were you, i would wonder over to the vogue section, do some reading to understand how to flash a cooked rom on ur fone.
Using a cooked lite rom will release some memory and will depending on the rom will give u a much newer interface to use, rather than the old touchflo.
Just make sure you do a bit of reading first so u dont end up bricking ur device
Greetz and have fun.
i have researched a lot about putting roms in phones but im still not confident enough and worried about bricking it, i wish there was a video on this website b/c ive seen only one on the internet and it wasnt too specific.
One last question what else can i do if i decide not to take the risk with the rom is there other software? i know that htc home coustimzer is one option.
sorry but forgot i got one more question, if i put a micro sd memory card would that also solve the proglem?

Yes u can use that to change the appearance of htc home, you can do quite a lot with that, like colours etc.
If you delve into ur device a little, you can find the pic files for the clock and change them so they look like the touchflo3d clock (just wont flip)
Dont worry, spend your time reading, it is acutally quite simple to hardspl and flash, just the first time is kinda scary lol.
okay man thanks a lot.

[Q] TUN.KO needed for CM6.1 b4

Hi all,
Now that I have CM6.1 b4 running smoothly on my gTablet (was very laggy until I removed all the phone-related apk's) I would love to be able to use this sweet tablet to VPN into my work network and remote some of our machines....
For this, of course, I would need to get a tun.ko for this kernel....
Can anyone with the right amount of knowledge do the bit of work necessary to compile this file?
I have found this information and instructions, but unfortunately they do not mean much to me:

Thank you all in advance, and blessed be the one who does this first!

Bump. I'm an Android dev, haven't done much at the ROM level, but I am going to look into this. I'd also like to use OpenVPN so I am going to start looking into this. If anyone else has more info it'd be appreciated.
Btw, which APKs did you remove? I'd love to use CM but it kept getting laggy after it would wake so I switched to TNTLite

[Q] Is there a "Have it all Rom" ?

Trying to find a Rom that has it all. A2DP working, HDMI working, cyanogenmod settings, Spare Parts, updated radio, extended options in phone / contacts where you can remove the picture icon etc. No TMO boot / exit screens or bloatware. Does it exist ? Just getting a little frustrated flashing / reflashing if ya know what i mean. Thanx much.
Thanks to all the dev's out there.

LOL, you don't want very much do ya?? To answer your question though, I dont believe any of the roms out have everything you want. I think you will have to decide what you want more and go from there. I can tell you that X-boarders stock, tweaked is very stable, also Faux123's AOSP is very nice and my daily driver, and now I am running Weapon and it also seams to be working great. You'll just have to look through the threads to figure what has the features you most want. Hope this helps with your decision.
Yeah I know huh. Always been a dreamer. I wish there was some way to learn how to do all this, Im not a dummy by any means. I would love to contribute to the devs some way. Guess $$ is the only way for now.

[Q] Inspire 4G custom roms

Just a few questions guys. Sorry if it has been discussed before. But, I'm coming from an HD2 and am thinking about getting an AT&T Inspire. Since the Inspire is a native Android device, it probably doesn't suffer the same bugs that the HD2 did when it has Android on it does it? In particular when you ran a Sense 3 rom on it, you would have trouble with graphic glitches. I'm guessing you don't have that problem with this phone? Is there some other known bugs that you face when you run a custom rom on the Inspire? I loved my HD2 so much that I had to get a comparable newer model of phone. I just felt it was time to get an actual Android native phone because of the various issues that I ran into. Also, if I root the Inspire will I be able to get rid of the AT&T bloatware if I choose to stick with the stock rom? I was running my HD2 on AT&T so I could only get EDGE with it and I got tired of the slow internet when I was not in a wifi area. Thanks for your answers!

If you're partial to CM7 based roms, not sure if this is a problem across the board for all devices, but at least on the Inspire CM7 roms don't like to read your SIM card, so back up your contacts to gmail and sync if you want to use a CM7 ROM.
I've used ARHD, Bindroid and Absolution. I have tried just about every rom there is on the Inspire but these 3 seem to be the most stable, a lot of support and just an overall great time. This isn't to say the other roms out there are terrible, I just fancy these and as anyone will tell you, different strokes for different folks. Your best bet, if you do get the Inspire, try all the roms out and see what best fits you, what minor bugs you can deal with and ones you can't. You'll find out very quickly what you're willing to live with and what you're willing to do without! Each ROM is not totally bugless, each have their share of little bugs and honestly the devs do a great job at fixing them and keeping their respective ROMs up to date (or at least the ones I have mentioned, again this isn't to say the other roms don't..I just use these consistently and can only attest to what they do). There use to be an audio issue but many roms have since fixed that. If you do get an inspire, the Desire HD is the same model phone pretty much and thus many of those roms can be flashed onto our device, if you take that route for whatever reason, you'll need to find the audio fix.
Thanks for the information. I think I will stick to the Inspire roms instead of the DHD ones. I'm a bit more partial to the Sense roms than the vanilla ones. I really like Sense. Yeah, I found that out with the HD2 running android. You had to try several roms out to see which one had the fewest most tolerable bugs. As far as roms not wanting to read the sim card, I always have a backup of my contacts on gmail. I thought it was convenient when I flashed a rom and signed in with my google account it would sync them all back to the phone.

No problem! I'm partial to sense roms as well but every now and then my CM7 inner child wants to have some fun. I typically keep to Bindroid (releases aren't as frequent and the following is small but man do they put out a really really stable rom). ARHD is another sense favorite of mine, also very stable, great development and a lot of mods/themes/add-ons. I use Absolution for my CM7 fix...again, great development, friendly group over there too!
Cool, I will be sure and check those out.
I also noticed with this phone you don't need to partition your nand everytime you switch out a rom. As a matter of fact you don't do that at all. That is a plus!!

Simple answer is no. There is no rom that is like that. A search of the available roms would have told you this.

what are the "must haves" for the tf101?

Hey guys I have never owned a tablet before, and finally picked up a tf101 with keyboard for a sweet price on CL.. and I want to give this tablet thing a real fair shot. That being said, I have tinkered around with android cellphones for a while, Im not a 100% noob but not as clever as most of you guys.
anyways I want to cut down on the amount of reading to do and boy there is a bunch , its the same song for every device/vehicle I buy, Purchase product, then spend the next couple months reading your brains off on a forum related to the product. (need to cut down on the reading... gf always on my case lol)
What are the most popular mods, accessories , settings (I will check into all the various kernals and Roms myself) apps. What are some life changing functions I can perform with the tf101 that would make me wish I got into tablets a lot sooner?
pretty much, I like the device and it looks real sleek and cool... just not sure what to do with it now , lol.
thanks in advance
Must have for me - Root - install custom rom - install kernel.
My PERI tool makes this a one-click from latest stock. I highly recommend you skip all the issues people have with stock and go straight to a great rom like ARHD, AOKP, or Megatron. :]
Other - counterstrike mobile, yes
This can be tough to answer because Android, unlike granny smith, has many things to read about and tinker with. I have had the tab for a while and tried numerous different roms and kernels. Each have slightly different responses and it depends on your tinkering desire.
I push my tab to the limits and try to do everything it wasn't originally designed for. Unfortunately....a lot of reading.
At any rate, my life changing functions were very quick access to RDP and VNC to home computers. I can also view my home security video cameras from the tab.
SSH to my phone is another plus for me.
I'm still contemplating attempting to install Linux on the tab as well.

I have it installed in an image loop and up and running fine on my B80 SBK2. It is slow and doesn't have any sound and I can't figure out what to do next in terms of getting a decent speed from it because there is pretty much no information out there other than getting it running. I know decent speed is possible because I had a WebTop phone.

but my main issue right now is ad-hoc.. Im trying to figure out if there is actually a real fix for it, but its all pretty confusing
I just made this thread regarding it

Tell me more on your tether issue. I tether the tf to my phone using built in tether function through the aopk rom. The tablet picks it up just fine. There is a lot of confusion between adhoc and infrastructure mode also but there are a lot of articles on the subject.
Define what you want to do and what way you want the data to flow would help out for a better answer I think.

hey tom, I think I have solved my problem, I applied the suplicant fix that was in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438297
and it has been working since, I havnt used it too much yet but so far so good
was that what you were going to suggest to me?
My phone is a rooted tmobile vibrant running tmobile web , I dont have a native tether app on this rom and I didnt want to mess with my phone much either. (been over a year since I installed a rom or even wiped, its getting too old for me to want to invest time into it)

I have heard this option many times but for quite some time ago when I was using Wifi tether for root users on the phone I had to select galaxy nexus cdma and netd master so the tablet would recognize.
Now things are becoming different such as the aopk rom and I use them on both the tf and my samsung fascinate. I stopped using the separate tether app since the built in function did all the same things.
I personally suggest a rom like this to make sure your phone and tablet can all peform the same functions.
Glad it worked for you though.
