identifying Galaxy s6 clone? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought one of these and it doesn't seem to be addressing its hard drive properly. I don't mind flashing he ROM but think I need to identify what on earth it is. HDC or Goophone? (or something else?)
I tried installing aida64 but keep getting the message that there isn't enough disk space. It may even be one which has an SD card slot?
Somewhere??
Anyone got any ideas on in which direction to point me please? I would be intrigued to know if it is any better spec'd than my galaxy S3 (or my HTC Wizard)

Thanks, is that the proper forum for the goophone or hDC?

No, this thread was moved to the S6 forum because of intent to identify whether device is fake or not. Therefore, this is still the relevant location to be moved to.

Well that should raise a laugh on that forum, someone has a fake S6 and is asking a forum of genuine G6 owners whether it is genuine!!!
Now, where can I get my problem actually answered?

We need at least some photos of the phone, and maybe a screenshot of the "About phone" settings screen.
(You know, my cristal ball has broken.... :silly: )

Try to enter in download mode (pwr + vol- + home) and send us a picture of the screen. Also will help some rear and front pictures.

Please excuse my incompetence but I can't now get the thing into download mode: I did manage it yesterday and am not sure the results are going to be all that useful as (somewhat predictably) every one of the four lines is in Chinese!
Are these photos of any use in diagnosing what is going on? For my part, I don't trust much of what it says because it seems to have been rigged to give these results? I will try to get a chinese text screen in case anyone here speaks Chinese
A few more things I noticed late last night: Firstly, storage shows that this is a 16 gig model but that all but 1.7 gig is used! Secondly, aida64 wont install, showing an out of space error message AFTER DOWNLOAD when it tries to install. I suppose this indicates that it is the app which won't install (cos it needs rooting?) rather than that there is a space related error going on here? I did manage to install the 'DU Battery' which is a whole lot bigger than Aida?
Various places in Settings offer to wipe all data on the phone but I am wondering how much of that is in ROM and how much is apps if 15.2 gig of space on this phone is mysteriously used! I tried bringing up the phone in windows explorer to see what is in any identifiable directories but XP sees it as an HTC device and gives a no driver error message. Maybe I might try ES File Explorer.

Instead of aida install cpu-z and try to get inside, if you see the CPU info it will help identify the model. When i was searching one s6 to buy, one of the sellers tried to scam me but when i asked for the shot he was dumb to send me

Looks fake. The S6's lowest storage variant is 32gb. The side bezels are too thick as well.

Something needs re-configuring on this thing as even CPU-Z wont install (sic) because of what it calls insufficient storage, what with all those 15.1 of 16 gig being taken up. And it is constantly trying to download something to update Flipboard. Which constantly fails for the same reason.

No, it wont even load cpu-z and is constantly failing in updating Flipboard from its download.
This thing seriously needs re-configuring in some way.
Does anyone think this means anything?

The model shows SM-G920G in the About device with a SM-G920F baseband version. The picture of the rear shows SM-G920F. And Samsung is misspelled.

Well spotted!!
But within the context of trying to identify precisely which clone this is, I assume you are suggesting that means sometihng. But you don't say what?

1. You are not able to enter in download mode: fake (original must enter in download mode)
2. Pushing two or three buttons combination (download or recovery modes) you enter in a screen with chinese letters: fake (original s6 would show english words on these modes)
3. 16GB: fake (original s6 has 32gb and above)
4. Rear image, Blue Camera sensor: fake (all colours original s6 has a black/grey camera around the objetive)
5. Front image, three proximity/brightness... just at left from the ear speaker: fake (s6 has only two sensors at this location
6. Made in Korea: fake (s6 is made in Vietnam)
So, 6 signs to say it is a fake s6. If you try to flash a original g920F ROM on it, you will brick your korean phone.

Please don't take this the wrong way but this is the second page of a slightly lengthy discussion trying to identify what is known a clone. Have you just caught up to where we were BEFORE the first post?
Take a look at the title.
What made you think that this "clone"which we are trying to identify is original?

I did, and I was trying to answer your first post here (#10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=64343483 ) after ask you some pictures...
Before that, yes, I read the thread tittle, and above on my post you have my response based in my experience and opinion. What do you thought people would answer after read this tittle?

Anyone would have thought that I was trying to identify a clone. [Once you have an original Samsung Galaxy S6, why would you need to identify it??]
Please let me explain if English is not your first language: A clone Galaxy is not a Galaxy. It is made by some other company. It isn't necessary to show how a clone isn't original in minute detail, no one thinks it is original, with the possible exception of the moderator of the XDA-Questions forum who moved this thread to this forum. But that isn't a reason people here would want to ignore the word clone and move on to identifying what is non-original about a clone?
I was trying to figure out on the proper place to ask questions (the Q&A Forum) where a post about a Goophone or HDC should go, who had played around with one of these slightly technologically advanced $100 octa-core phones and whether they had flashed their phone with any better ROM. Or how to contact the manufacturer.
As XDAers play around with all flashable phones (as well as numerous phones where flashing gives dubious results), I figured someone must have tried to get this Chinese phone which does actually work with android to work better.

Galaxy S7 Touchscreen Problem

Galaxy S7 screen not responding to touch sometimes. The bottom portion of the display is affected. I tried 6 different S7 and all of them have the same problem, test yours like this and tap gently not hard, when you press hard you press 3mm on the screen and that is a lot ! The problem is worse when the phone is cold (20C) This is annoying because the place where its not working is the same place where the space bar is and the "." Does anyone else have that exact problem? Here is a video of the problem : https://youtu.be/OW_FQBMcuOE
IMPORTANT !
Install Phone INFO app (green adroid logo) see when the phone is manufactured, mine is 2016.02.18 ! maybe the first batch of the production have that problem! We might be on something here!!!
There are two threads already open with this situation.
I have this problem at the same location you demonstrate. The right side has this problem too. From bottom right to the top 1 cm and 2 or 3 cm up you are going to reproduce the same thing.
I get used to it but it is very annoying. Never liked Samsung because of this things. They use low quality material all around. I will never trust them.

Just received H9 update and the release notes did not mention anything about LCD, touch screen or anything related to it.
But since the update, I've been trying to reproduce the problem trying to find the blind spots and for my surprise I did not find anything. The touchscreen is perfect and I can feel it is more sensitive.
Before the update I could reproduce the problem very easy! Now it is perfect.
The update here in my region (Brazil - ZTO) was about 170MB. Samsung Cloud was introduced.
Wow, mine was manufactured 2 weeks ago (2016.08.16) and I've owned it since about the 24th too, so it was 8 days old when I received it

How to check for a FAKE Galaxy S7?

Hey guys, what are some ways to check if a galaxy s7 is fake? I want to buy one on craigslist but I saw a video where some guy posted about a fake s7 from china and it looks so alike. Literally 1:1, so what are some ways to check if a Galaxy S7 is real? I know a few ways but would definitely like some input. I know you can boot it into recovery and if its a fake, usually it will have chinese letters. Also, if the device is locked then thats a good indicator that its real. Running antutu might not work for it because they made it so that the fake phones can produce fake results.

Search YouTube, there's videos on there comparing real vs fake s7's. Also checking the Android version In settings and software will usually give away a fake, it will still be lollipop software. Another way is rebooting into recovery, fakes will boot to a recovery screen with chinese or Japanese writing.

check this video out, it looks so similar to the real one that its hard to differentiate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o7aONAfX-I
As stated already, boot in to recovery mode and verify that it in fact says it's a G930 model.
I bought a fake and there are a few ways:
1. The box: the S7 has a nice flip open box. The fakes imitate last years' s6 box with the slide out
2. The screen: The S7 has a 5.1" AMOLED, the fakes have a 1280x720 LCD.
3. Click on any samsung app. The fakes don't have the correct apps installed
4. Reboot into download mode. The fakes have a test mode and no download mode
5. reset the phone. The fakes don't have the 10 screens of samsung/google logins before getting to the home screen.
6. Pull down the notifications. The real one has an arrow on the top right to edit the quicksettings.
7. Check the back of the phone. The bottom has writing below the glass

simple ways to find out if a SG7 is a fake.
1.) go to the system about and click the software info android version and click it a few times
you will see a lollipop
2.) download a app that will tell you the cpu of the phone
3.) also a fake the back will come off as they have a ****ty battery
4.) the screen will look a bit off and when u press it you will see like a old calc looking liquid under it
5.) they mostly will be the FD model will 2 sim cards
6.) the phone weight is almost the same its about 20 grams off or so
7.) everything looks pretty dam good on the clone/fake/replica
8.) most will not even have a download mode
9.) recovery mode will be old
10.) the side edges cant be faked on the clone so that's a big give away
Best way is to download a app that can show you the processor the system has
I can tell you i seen some fakes that even look better then the one in that video
can you tell me a bit about how you came across it? Was something trying to sell it to you on craigslist/kijiji? did you report them to the police? what happened after you realized it was a fake?

Samsung Galaxy S7 Snapdragon G930F (MT6580) getting to Factory Mode instead of Odin

Device: Samsung Galaxy S7 Snapdragon G930F (MT6580)
Kernel: 3.10.72
Android: Marshmallow 6.0.1 (possibly partially unlocked)
I got the phone from outside seller, the problem I am having is :

* I see malware com.ovs.themes.slicers (Kiss me, beach kiss) and not able to remove it since not able to get it full rooted (McAfee detect it but not able to remove it)
* GPS not working even its enabled.
I want to root the device or flash with BTU rom but not able to get into Odin mode every-time I tried to get to Download Mode(Odin mode) it take me to "Factory Mode", I tried all way to get into download mode but none helped.
* Key combination: Vol - + Home+ Pwr

Note: using Vol+ I can get into recovery mode but not download mode
I just wanted to mention, its working fine for Call with any Carrier.

The G930F is the international version with the Exynos and not the Snapdragon, which one do you have?
You bought a FAKE S7. It will never be compatible with odin and S7 firmwares.
Yep its a fake, the mt6580 is a mediatek processor most commonly found in cheap Chinese devices.

Thank you so much Travis Bickle, kykint, gsmyth for quick response
@travis it says Snapdragon
So looks like I got cheated by the guy and now stuck with this Chinese clone of S7.
Is there anyway I can root it and get rid of that Factory Mode and the adware?? As rest of the phone is really amazing, quality of picture, sound/video quality, fast charging and performance except the battery life.
So if I can remove the adware and get it rooted the phone is still usable for few years.
Please suggest.!!

One thing I could suggest is to disable a few apps from your phone. Check for the presence of SystemLocker and GoogleVending - that might account for most of the malware showing up especially when wifi is enabled.

You're welcome! There might be a few more depending on the ROM used. If you could give me the boot.prop and/or system folder I might try on coming up with a fix.
Oh and out of curiosity, can you take a pic or two of the phone in question? Usually with fakes they come with a slightly smaller screen hence the borders and/or thicker bezels. That's one tipoff with a fake Samsung device compared to the real thing.

Would you be so kind enough to take a pic of the bottom of the phone? Right now I somehow bricked my phone and I am looking for someone kind enough to dump a similar ROM for me.

The gap between the top of the home button and the bottom of the screen looks too big on that phone, it's much closer to the screen on the S7 (G930F)

Hard to tell from those pics, just turn it on and see if it has a thick black bezel around the screen like this one on the right, if it does then its a fake https://i.ytimg.com/vi/AzKnmffM2K4/maxresdefault.jpg

Do any of you all know anything about this one?
They claim it to have a "real" 820 Snap in it.
...I think at best case, a octa MTK and of course everything will be plastic.
G930f have sd820?
Enviado desde mi E6603 mediante Tapatalk
The real Samsung g930 phones have 820 (or Exynos in variants), The site I posted is a clone phone, that claims to have the real 820 snap processor in it. I am wondering how/if it can be true????
There are many ways to distinguish from a fake to a real s7, just youtube it.
- The fingerprint scanner on the fake one works with any fingers
- I bet the antutu score on the fake will be significantly lower than the real due to cheap outdated hardware
- battery, as you already know, is terrible on the fake
- No heart rate monitor on the fake, even if there are, it will just read random fake numbers
- The print on the box and manual of the fake are significantly lower than the real in terms of quality print, and even content are not the same.
- The fake one will display false specs on every monitor software such as 4.00GB ram (when it actually has like 512MB or something stupid like that) and snapdragon CPU when it actually has a MediaTek chinese cpu

Looks like we have a slightly different device then; mine had the microphone pinhole on the other side. And yeah, I am still looking for that damn Z6U030HA_V101En firmware. Haven't heard from anyone with the same ROM so far. :/
Friends,
Finally, I was able to get details for the phone its HDC S7 which is clone of Samsung S7, I was able to locate ROM for it on needrom and able to flash it.
Now the problem that I found is the phone doesn't connect to T mobile 4G LTE network, its only showing 2G and that is causing the GPS issue.
I am able to see AT&T 3G so looks its only Tmobile that has issue with this phone, I tried to add network ID myself but that didnt helped. Do anyone know if there is working solution for HDC S7 4G LTE network issue? Or suggestion on any alternative ROM for HDC S7 G930?
Hi, I have the same phone and I need the firmware because I flashed a wrong one. Can you give me a backup firmware from this device? Thanks

Huawei Watch 2 China Version

Hello guys!
I purchased this from China and realise I cannot change the language to english. And also having to use the China Version of Android Wear. Is there any way to flash and change the system language or change to global android wear 2.0?
I have my eyes on this too and would like to know myself!
On the original it looked fairly straightforward, hopefully it is on this one too...
You don't have to use android ware 2.0 chinese version. I have global version installed on my iPhone and have successfully connected to huawei watch 2. I could enable Feed and sync calendar cards, email cards etc.

This is my current problem now, watch was bought from China and requires me to install the Android Wear from China as well.
Any idea how to get a copy of the English ROM for Huawei Watch 2?

I don't want to risk flashing HW1 firmware on this.
BTW, is it possible that the developer preview for Huawei Watch 2 will also be available to the public? Is it also possible to just ask Huawei for the files and flash it myself?
They provided a QR which helped me download the Android Wear Chinese Version but it still shows the text in Chinese even if the language in my phone is set to English. Are you saying that there is an Android Wear China App (com.google.android.wearable.app.cn) which can make the HW2 text in English? I think I could live with that for now, else I'll just wait for the English Version before using this daily...
(I can't post the actual link from the QR code, but it's just from VMall dot Com)

you are right, better not risk to flash other ROM, just wait a bit, developers will give us all we need. I am waiting too.... I am trying to get custom recovery on it with no results...... will wait too... you cant set watch to english, no way at all. forget it until we will see an international ROM
I am also about to purchase the china version, but need to know it it will be able to flash the international version later on. Can I assume it will be possible?

Hi, I finally given up the 2nd gen and would opt for the first gen even it is actually more expensive.
the 2nd gen is simply... a toy watch. The original one would seem sustain better.
But my last concern would be battery, will the 2nd gen last much longer than the first one?

Nice is not what people say it is, is what you really like, this is for all things, always.
in second, if you dont mind to spend a lot (my personal opinion) in a watch that was out on 2015 is ok, but 2thgen is better in performances, pixels, ram, battery and so on.
I have apple watch steel ($$$$$$) that is perfect for iphone owners(me), huawei 1th gen, good for sure and really nice, now time to try something more powerfull and also price is finally "real".
anyway, as I say, up to you.
battery is a bit better than 1thgen cause is bigger but not that much, depend on how you will use it, gps and gyro for exaple are consuming a bit, but it will be not a problem for you cause 1th gen have not gps....
by the way, why you are care about version? you are in HK you should find international version too. I always buy my phones there, all international.

The international version in HK will usually cost at least 40% more than that in China. That's the only reason.
On second thought, I am getting an Huawei 2 despite the Huawei 1 is much more appealing and better build quality. In any way it is a tech toy. The battery should sustain no longer than 3 years and it worths nothing by then. So keeping the toy with latest techology would be a good choice.
under what circumstances you can use the china watch except using it as an digital watch?
Almost all app are incompatible. Not even the spotify. Only those happened to be in the Huawei app store will run.

Vernee Mars Pro

Hello gents,
I am pretty sure this is the correct place for this post, my apologies to the mods if not.
I preordered the Vernee Mars Pro, which on paper sounds rather impressive. My only concern with the device is that not too long ago there was a bunch of hubbub about malware being on devices originating from china.
I understand that if my concern is that deep, that i shouldn't be buying Chinese devices, but ehh?
Anyways, I was hoping that someone might have some knowledge into looking into firmware to check for said malware. I would very much appreciate a little help when I get mine in.
Cheers!
A lot of Chinese phones do contain bloatware and other forms of crapware. It can include malware, but not always, it is a gamble really. Unfortunately, I am not sure about anything related to this. But I do follow one practice if the phone doesn't have custom ROM, I usually don't buy it. I tend to wipe original ROM away and add a custom one, that is the safest way to protect your data from chinese providers.

Chinese phones are officially not allowed for people in Armed Forces. I read it somewhere that they send whole text messages to servers in china...
Anyways get a custom rom ,install xposed framework and then get Xprivacy.
Then block any existing malware
Don't be afraid beacuse it is chinese phone. They made some bautifull mobs. I have Jiayu S3 for two years - best ROMs, android 7.12, but it is somewhat slow, after 2 years. I look to buy this one too Or it is better to wait something with MTK x30
There is one opinion on youtube..it says that Mars pro has bad quality tone in calls

About bloatware in android of Vernee Mars Pro:
On mine, "CheckChineseBackdoor.apk was checked positive and App-remov find a "com.adups.fota" as "mise à jour" (updates) application ..... It was configured to be able to modify system (!) and you had to be root to erase it .... before uninstalling i hope desactivate "modify system" is true and stop application too.

the exact stock rom name is mars_pro_21070630154451
Yeah, I guess fair point stands, right now a lot of Chinese market phones flagged for backdoors, malware and just in general a mess. It seems they are using the same either Android distributor or software distributor, that just adds plenty of unnecessary apps.
I accidentally activated the e-ink mode.
Unfortunately I can not disable it because you can not pull down the notification bar.
Does anybody know how to deactivate the e-ink mode to have a color display again?
