Hi RJ - my wife has recently gotten the same phone (Neo L) here in China. I installed a GooglePlay .apk on the phone but like you RJ it also crashes right away. Have any of the suggested solutions worked for you RJ?
Thanks,

[Q] Make OTG on the go (Usb Device Access) Support for Xperia L

I wish to request you for the support of usb on the go OTG Support (Usb Device Access) in XPERIA L --C2104, because this is an important part of the SONY XPERIA user's.
I want to attach a pen drive on my Xperia L and access the data through OTG cable. please help me.
make a procedure to do this , if it happens without rooting the phone then it's unbelievable.
please you guys also tell sony for this support of OTG Cable , I have already mail to sony for OTG Support in the next upcoming firmware upgrade. So all XPERIA L users like this or not?
I like the idea of it but hate your color, font and size. That was the most annoying thing I've ever read on XDA.

If your firmware is 2.17 then wifi will not work!
If your firmware is 1.31 or 1.36 then go ahead, everything will work fine!

AFAIK you need root to enable pairing with DS3; as i recall they already have removed support to it. Only now works with DS4
