[Q] Has anyone been able to access network on XT1548 after flashing CM12 based roms? - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Virgin Mobile's version of the phone and every attempt to use a CM based rom, I can't access VM's network. When I look in my phone settings, my phone number is displayed as 000-000-1432. (Which is obviously wrong) I've tried to use the VM network fix, tried changing my mobile network settings, and tested verious other methods from other phones to get network back, but it hasn't worked. I've also tried to nandroid backup into CM from a working stock rom. That works for about 10-20 minutes then the number reverts to the 1432 one and no longer have access.
I have heard that the CM rom is based specifically on the Sprint version and that the "pre-paid" versions are slightly different, but no one has confirmed this. Has anyone been able to get it working or do I have to wait for someone to develop a CM based rom specifically for the XT1548?

Yes

You need to flash the 3rd try of Alberto's derp boot IMG after flashing ROM.
Then you can change CDMA subscrition to RUIM/SIM
Glad to see more folks using the VM moto.
Seemed like just me for awhile

Lol, I thought I was the only one using the VM variant. Thanks for the tip. Ill give this a try when I get home.

Flash Modem Files!
Hi! , I'm James, and il be happy to try and help you today
My suggestions are the following
Try and add the correct APN details for your provider (VM). These details can easily be found on Google !
Try the following commands to fix the issue: Download the stock firmware files for your device, load fastboot & adb , and then make sure that USB debugging is enabled. type adb reboot-bootloader . then type into fastboot : fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin , then type fastboot erase modemst1 fastboot erase modemst2
Hopefully this helped !
Please click thanks , if you think my post was worthy of it !

Thanks for the info hossman. Everything worked and was able to sustain connection through multiple reboots. Ill update after a few days of use.

[Q] NO 3G! Frustrating Problem!

hi devs!
It's been a month (or less) that my NS GSM can't connect to 3G network!
I flashed new baseband and now i'm on CM9 2.1. When I switch to 3G network (I know it's a bit slower) even with the secret *#*#... menu and I get ICS grey bars or blue bars but no way i'm getting data!
I tried also to delete some files in /efs folder and rebooted...Nothing.
Even with the trick of changing radio band...Nothing!
Performed a factory reset (+ relock/unlock bootloader)...Nothing =(
I know I'm a bit hungry of flashing new ROMs and taste new flavours of ICS, but I cannot live without 3G in Italy! That's so lame!
any suggestions? (maybe the SGSII is better)
U probably flashed the wrong radio....
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
try flashing a different radio. Make sure you use the correct one for ur phone. Just match i9020t/a etc
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Flash correct radio for your device and restore your efs backup. I hope u did create a backup if your efs folder, especially if you have been deleting stuff, best way to brick your phone is to mess with that.
also , probably setting problem like APN or somewhere
---------- Post added at 10:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 PM ----------
i don't know about your country , but in Spain , some operator and sometimes , you have to manually set APN in order to get 3G connection
What carrier you use?
Nocerinos with CM9 :-D
What Radio do you have right now? And what phone model do you have?
You need to make sure you choose the appropriate radio for your phone. Please choose appropriate from following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Now, remember that deleting files from EFS folder is really dangerous. You might end up with a bricked phone (as CONTACTMC stated). You might want to restore this from a working set up you had before.
After flashing correct radio, make sure your APN settings are correct according to your service provider (from ICS roms some of these are extracted automagically )

Sprint Nexus 5 APN, 3G, LTE, SMS, MMS, all jacked up

I have a Nexus 5, rooted, unlocked. A couple of months ago, I started having data issues on CyanogenMod 12.1. Could not change APNs, couldn't really do ANYTHING about it. Tried modifying telephony.db files to no avail. Tried deleting them and letting new ones generate (they generated but it didn't help). Tried copying the telephony files from a working nexus 5 over and it worked for 5 minutes.
Eventually I flashed CleanCore and CleanCore 's radio. That worked BEAUTIFULLY and I had no Data issues for a long time. Well the other day, I went back to stock, upgraded to the most recent Nexus 5 Build and now no matter what I do, I can't get it to work. Tried reflashing CleanCore (nada) CyanogenMod 12.1 (nada) CyangenMod 11 (Nada) Factory Reset before AND after flashes (nada) I am barred access to APN settings on ALL roms I flashed and NO changes I make stick.
I have a Nexus 5 that is no good to me unless I have Wifi. and Even then, what good is that?
Please help.
Edit: Im thinking the problem lies soley in the APN settings being broken. Does somebody have a current flashable Sprint APN file? Im desperate people. I dont have a phone right now. And Sprint told me they were stumped (nice right?)

if that doesnt work download the stock image from google and manually flash those and then if that still doesnt work flash that zip after a reinstall of twrp hopefully that should work @NexusGazer
What ROM are you running that with? I tried flashing it with the latest cm 12.1 nightly and no dice. It flashed successfully, but I didn't have data, and the standard and non standard troubleshooting methods didn't change anything.
Then attempting to access apns went and wiped em all away again. And ideas @R800x_user
..
Have you flashed the sprint.zip by any chance? After flashing any rom and try cataclysm that one should work with the sprint n5. Data was working fine on that @NexusGazer
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I got it working finally, and Now Im running CM 11. It says in the other thread that support for the zip stops around 5.04 or some stuff. But you say it was working with the Marshmallow preview.... Hmmm. Decisions decisions.

AOSP ROMs causing data connection issues

I've tried two ROMs so far, Xenon and CM. Both the latest build. I did them after a fresh RUU, using TWRP 2.8.7.0. The only change I made was to install the VZW firmware that DigitalHigh provided in the OP of his GPE ROM. That was needed to ensure that I could install the newer TWRP and the lollipop roms and whatnot.
Anyway, data connection is incredibly spotting. Half the time I have nothing, then it's the R for roaming, and occasionally when toggling APNs and airplane mode I can get regular data for a little bit, but it never lasts long.
Has anyone encountered this before? What can I do differently to fix this?
Why didn't you just stick with the 5.0.1 firmware? I would try flashing that firmware & see if that fixes it.
---------- Post added at 10:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:50 PM ----------
Its a GPE firmware. So its not a vzw firmware. That could be the issue

Need help downgrading

So i used odin to install a rom from my phone i found last night, but this marshmallow rom doesn't connect to my mobile network. I tried installing a older rom from odin, but of course it won't let me. what do i need to do to fix this?
nvm, did the non auto reboot and pulled out the battery, did the trick.
since you have been doing this for 2 years, anything interesting i should try? i just upgraded from 4.4.2, to 6.0.1, installed twrp and superuser, any neat stuff i should try?
what baseband are you on?
---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 AM ----------
and why are you using odin to flash roms? thats not highly recommended when youre not in need of changing your firmware. what tar.md5 file did you flash? if its not connecting to your network, it could have been a tar.md5 for a different S5. here is the link for the 6.0.1 PCA tarball and here is the link for the OK4 tarball. Im currently using the OK4 one and its pretty solid, but if you want the ability to flash ROMs, then you want to stay away from the PCA baseband
sorry, too noob to know what baseband i was in. all i know its a sprint phone, g900p and my original was 4.4.2. i've been trying to flash roms from http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint) (SM-G900P)/Stock ROMs
but they all have the same problem, it stops at like 1% probably cause i'm trying to revert to a old version, must of flash 20 roms i found on the internet... i'm looking for a kitkat version that would work. I would think thats my biggest problem, just haven't found a stock rom that works. Would i need to clear anything with twrp first?
thanks for the help, this lolipop rom works great
yes, and it might need for you to fix permissions too. do a factory reset (i always recommend doing it 3 times), delete the android folder in both internal and external storage, and then try to flash the ROM again. Id also upgrade to at least OK4 via Odin. After doing that, youll have to reflash TWRP. That should clear up any issues youre having
OK4 tar.md5
---------- Post added at 12:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 PM ----------
no problem. let us know if you run into any other issues. ive had my S5 since launch week (over 2 years) and its been rootd, flashed, rommed, sim unlocked etc etc so many times, its pretty nuts
also, even if your ROM is working well, it would still be wise to get on OK4. Its just a better baseband
could you help me with installing twrp? i downloaded this https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ from the website, its should be simple to install like flashing the roms, but i did it a few times, but when i boot into recovery mode, its still using the android version. like nothing has changed.
it has to be a tar.md5 file and flash it in Odin using the AP slot. Put your phone into download mode (pull the battery, put it back and press and hold, volume down and home, while still pressing those two press the power button until the phone vibrates and then release the power butt while still holding the other 2), itll ask you if you want to continue, select yes. If you need more info about how to use Odin, let me know

Anybody have any luck getting LTE/4G and MMS working with Virgin Mobile?

Before I rooted I was running the Android 6.0.1 OSA update. Now I'm running CyanogenMod 13 Nightly and everything's working awesome except LTE/4G and MMS.
I feel like I've tried everything. With previous devices I was able to use the "Universal VMU APN Fix" to fix any issues but not now. I've also tried the "MVNO Slayer" with no success.
I've even tried pulling the stock build.prop from the stock image file from sammobile.com and making my own "customized" version of the VMU APN fix but I've noticed that the CM13 build.prop file doesn't have any cdma options in it so I'm not sure where those are stored.
And I've tried setting my APN settings manually through the settings menu but that doesn't work either.
Also, trying to revert my device back to stock using image files from sammobile.com results in my device getting stuck at the Virgin Mobile splash screen upon boot.
So I can't get 4G/LTE and MMS working and I can't revert back to stock. I'm worried I've screwed my phone permanently. :/
If anybody can provide some advice that'd be awesome. Thanks!
the weirdness in the first part of your post doesnt make sense as to why your phone is doing that unless the modem got screwed up when you flashed CM13 or if youre on a MM baseband. If i was in your position, i djust go back to square 1 and try again. Reflash the tarball, chainfires root tar, TWRP and let it boot. Make sure its all working fine, then flash a g900p ROM in TWRP and go from there. If you are seeing a virgin mobile bootanimation, they you likely flashes a ROM that wasnt built for your phone. Youre going to want to stick with ROMs made for the g900p specifically
if you want to revert, heres a faster dl of the OK4

Thank you for your help youdoofus.
I was able to get back to stock using the OK4 image you linked to.
I also tried flashing CyanogenMod 12.1 and applying APN settings to that without success.
So I guess I'm sticking to stock un-rooted for now unless anyone can help me get APN settings working for Virgin Mobile. :/

Ok. Gimme a min. I'll be at my computer shortly. You can also hmu on hangouts, I'm youdoofus there too
If you come up with any ideas youdoofus, that'd be awesome. Otherwise after working on this thing for like 8 hours, I was able to get a stock deodexed rooted rom running with Xposed so I'm content for now, lol.

does virgin mobile use sprint as their backbone for it as a MVNO? If not, the reason you might not be getting data is the network lock.

I'm not exactly sure what a MVNO is. I know that Virgin Mobile uses Spring for it's mobile network. I was able to get my old device (Galaxy S3) running with CyanogenMod 11 on Virgin Mobile no problem. (After of course running the Universal APN fix)
an MVNO is a "cell provider" that exists only on paper just like straight talk. they buy their air time off other carriers and sell it as their own. I use straight talk but am using AT&Ts physical hardware. I think virgin uses sprint, but im not entirely sure. if thats the case, you should just need to use sprints APN settings. worth a try at least
Universal apn flasher for virgin mobile. Flash your rom then flash this zip. Works on 4.4.2,4.4.4 and lollipop but cant vouch for it on marshmallow as i havent updated my s5 to marshmallow to try it. Although it shoild work ok.

So I figured out what was wrong with my 4G/LTE. After restoring back to the stock rom, I realized that my 4G/LTE still wasn't working. I talked to the Virgin Mobile customer service rep for a little bit a figured out that my SIM card didn't support LTE. I had actually purchased my phone used via Swappa.com and I purchased the SIM card from Amazon. So apparently I got the wrong SIM card. Virgin Mobile sent me a new one and now I have 4G/LTE again! Still have to test it with a non-stock rom but I'm pretty sure it'll work just fine.
Thank you everybody for the help/suggestions!

Anybody that pays for a lte sim card should get their money back. If you call your provider they will give you one.
