Foxfi problem, no Internet detected? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Worked great yesterday, tried this morning and no matter what I pick, hot-spot, USB tethering, or Bluetooth it all gets stuck on verifying Internet connection and after a minute pops up saying Internet was not detected on my phone.
Nothing updated that I know of, phone 4g runs great, foxfi worked fine last night, I've tried reinstalling and no luck.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am having same issue on verizon unlimited data. Just started this morning too. Rebooted nothing, deleted foxfi certificate nothing, deleted and redownloaded foxfi nothing. If this is verizon again... I... well, I'm pissed off.

Yeah this is killing me. Without foxfi I'm screwed for internet, I have only one company available in my area for dsl or fiber but they want $61 for 6mb down and 1mb up and first and last month payment... Yeah...
And that's the "cheap" package.

I'm up and working again

curious as to why the foxfi app when there's a stock verizon app already installed.?????

Foxfi allows me to use the to use the hotspot on my phone for free, this way I'm not stuck with an additional monthly fee and a datacap on the hotspot with data I already pay for.
I've always viewed it as them double dipping.

[Q] MEdiaNET stopped working??? after tethering today

I have a FUZE and today ever since I used CMInternetSharing and downloaded a 12 MB file (which isnt much, in detail it was a printer driver and i had to at the moment but i used windows to look which probably took forever searching various servers...god knows) point is I used it then and now my interent hasnt worked since then on my FUZE...i havent called att yet but does anyone think it could be that they cut me off of internet for somehow imagining that i was tethering???
try a soft reset, could solve the problem, idk why it doesnt work for you now after downloading a 12MB file because i always tether wireless all the time and i pull in around 100mb a day!(sometimes i download like 3 or 4 songs which is well over 20mb) and still manage to have internet on the tether or the phone....did u by any chance get the limited data plan? and how often do you usually tether?
No i have the unlimited $30/month i rarely tether and still usually pull about 100MB a month since im a college kid and have internet everywhere i go except a few days ago my router blew and the ethernet was being gay....
Reseting as we speak
EDIT: Still didnt work i guess i should just call ATT and ask them

what area are you from? because it might be just downtime for maintenance and 100mb a month is nothing, like i said 100mb usually everyday for me, if not, then the weekends which turns out almost 500mb for Fri-Sun
I'm in San Antonio and it wasnt network downtime or anything because the internet worked through Android just not through windows mobile ???? very strange.
I called ATT and they just guided me through a master reset....i was so frustrated even though i had nothing to lose on my device.
After a master reset my internet didnt work at first and then after trying it again in Android and it working like it did it later worked in WinMo.

Working app for Wifi tethering?

I heard the wifi hotspot that is built in the phone has like a trial period or something (you'll suddenly get a tmobile page on your browser when you hit the limit) and I tried the wireless tether for root 2.0.7 & 3 beta... but doesn't work.
Any other options to wifi tether for my laptop & Iconia A500 with MT4GS?
I've been using the Wifi Tether app -- http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ -- with no problems. Can you elaborate on how this was not functioning properly for you?

I used the old one and it seem like it was getting a fail on accessing the wifi (when looking at the log).
When I use 3.0beta, everything loaded fine in the log... but when my laptop connected I get the yellow yield sign and no internet signal supposedly. let me download the latest one from your link and see what happens
what settings are you using? I just tried again and same problem. I tried connecting with my Iconia tab and it just kept saying "Obtaining IP address" and didn't do anything.

nevermind, got it to work. keep playing with the settings.

No it doesnt. WI FI app is 100% free. When you reach your limit you get a text saying you reached your limit and you connection has slowed down.
I've maxed it several times. No need for an outside app.

I thought T-Mobile charges a *fee* to your account when using that app?
See this support discussion: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/6272
Also, go try and sign-up for a new plan on T-Mobile and check out this add-on service I've screen-capped...

Free ... assuming you've paid the monthly fee for tethering, right? The TMobile hotspot app pre-installed is only for those paying customers. Right? Or am I missing something here?

No monthy fee for the app itself. You can have it but without a data plan or a wifi it won't connect. I'm not sure if it would run on another phone as a droid x etc.
. I could try to find the apk and let you try it?

I got the wireless tether app to work already.. so I'll just use that.
ok our native Tethering app works for FREE, as long as you dont abuse it, that tethering option fee only if you abuse it constantly and are constantly going over your set amount of data, so 1 you are hitting your data cap, so now your web is slower than a snail, two if you are constantly tethering T-mo is going to make you pay for tethering, and three, STOP ABUSING! i only use tethering for checking email every once in a while on my Laptop, and have never payed for the tethering option, i even spoke with a t-mo rep, and he said its basically only for abusers that tmo makes pay the $15 for tethering. hope this clears things up a bit.

Not calling your integrity into question, but I wouldn't believe this for a second. T-Mobile is a business and it doesn't seem likely that they would give their services away for free when they have an explicit add-on service they charge for.
Why run the risk when you can *easily* just install the Android Wifi Tether app and use that service a bit further off of T-Mobile's radar? It just seems far, far safer.
Just use Barnacle to wifi tether.

Well of course not. The app came installed on the phone. The data service that it requires to be able to work is $15 monthly. Rip off.
I've used the android wifi tether app but can't seem to get anything to work with it. Not many ad hoc compatible devices, I guess?

It works with my android tablet (nook color) and all my Macs, so not sure what to tell ya.
I have been using the built in tethering for a long time but just a couple of days ago I got redirected to T-Mobiles site and asked to pay 14.95 a month to continue to tether. I hardly ever used it so looks like they are starting to crack down.

This has been happening to me for a while, I even started a thread about it, but no one responded....if you change your user agent to the same one your phone uses, then you will be fine, but it will take you to the mobile version of some sites.
Have you tried one of these 3rd party apps? Does it still happen?

Yes I have tried Barnacle several times, and it will still direct me to the the Tmobile warning screen....but if you just change your user agent on what ever you are trying to tether to (computer, tablet, ect..) change it to the same one on your phone, and the stock app and 3rd party apps work fine, but occasionally it will take you to a mobile version of the site you are trying to view.

Inconsistent Wifi Tether Issues!

I have been having intermittent wifi tether issues with 2 different wifi tether/hot spot apps. 1 being "Wireless Tether", the other the official verizon hotspot app. It is also worth noting I have had the same issues with each individual tether app across many different roms, with/without kexec, and tested with more than one wifi connecting device.
The first is the Wireless tether app. I have it configured with wpa2 security, I've tried both generic ics profile and galaxy nexus cdma/lte. When I launch it and turn tether on it appears to work normally but most of the time it does not broadcast the SSID, preventing devices from seeing the neteork and connecting. Sometimes restarting tethering will solve it but usually I have to reboot the entire phone to get it to work and broadcast SSID.
With the verizon hotspot app the issue is completely different. It always starts and broadcasts SSID, but after some time the internet will start running very slow on the receiving device. If I look on the phone the 4g lte icon will then be off. If I run a speed test locally on the phone it performs great with 25mbps dl speed and then wifi data will start working again on the receiving device.
Am I doing something wrong or just the first to complain?

Try on the wifi tether app to use the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cdma/lte.
Sometimes I have to start/stop/restart mine to get it to work. Usually it works after a fresh reboot, turn it off for whatever reason breaks the ****ing thing and I gotta reboot. Sucky.
I haven't used vzw's app

I hope someone comes up with a solution though :good:
I have the same issue so I switched to using FoxFi. Seems to work 100% of the time. Sucks that it doesn't have a widget to activate the hot spot with a single click.
I am running synergy 1.3 and wifi tether works fine!!

I'm considering changing my plan on Verizon from a data only to the Everything and getting the SIII. I never use the data plan for laptop anymore but just haven't close the account.
You might be able to answer my question... Does Verizon still charge wifi tether (hotspoting) fees on their new plans? Before, avoiding this fee was one of my main reasons for rooting my phone (different carrier).
I realize you're having trouble with this feature anyway.

On the new plans, it's free to tether. On the old unlimited plans, its a fee service.
Not that many of us pay it.
Data only plan? Can you elaborate at all please? I want aware of such thing...

[SOLVED] One Click Wifi Tether with t0mmy not working... any ideas?

For some reason, I am getting an error when I try using t0mmy (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677261) one click tether enabler. I've done some searching and cannot find anyone else who has had this issue. What the heck am I missing (screenshots attached)?! Any ideas?
Info:
- Stock AT&T ROM
- Rooted
- Android 4.0.4
- Used on StraightTalk... all APNs are setup correctly... data works on the phone.
For solution, SEE BELOW
One other thing I should mention is that even when I am using `android-wifi-tether` it will not work. It just shows up as a device on my computer when it is turned on as a wifi hotspot.
I've downloaded SQLite Browser and have changed all fields with "broadband" to "pta". Still no go.
I don't understand what you need that program for...

When I click to activate the native wifi hotspot, it says that I cannot have a hotspot and to call 611. So I am trying Android Wifi Tether, which works for a little bit then after about 3 seconds, says "what the hell, your phone is taking over. shutting down wifi." Something like that. I'm just trying to get this phone setup so my friend can use it as a hotspot.
SQLite is to edit my `telephony.db`
Well, I do believe that it could be because you are using a stock rom, so att bulit in securities could be taking over. Also, I do want you to know that ATT does have advanced technology to detect tethering. without notice, they can upgrade you data plan to 5gb ($50) because you were caught tethering. it is the way the apn connects. now you can try to change your apn to BROADBAND, which is tethering, but again, but warned. if your data plan changes (esepcially if you are grandfathered into one), then that's on you...
so here are my suggestions: change the APN to broadband, get off the stock, and im sure there are a plethora of apps in the play market that should work

They will send you a warning (physical letter or SMS, can't remember which exactly) notifying you have been caught tethering without the appropriate data plan. Then, if you are caught again, they will change you plan.
Probably nobody except folks at AT&T know the exact methods they use to monitor for tethering. But the thought here is that a high amount of usage will raise red flags, then they will examine data packets for the signs of tethering.
Some folks (myself included) have been able to tether without getting caught, by just doing it occasionally, and keeping the data usage low. But even then, the system seems far from consistent. I've seen a couple of folks report on here getting the tethering warning from AT&T, despite having never even tethered.
The days when you could easily pirate tethering may be coming to an end. AT&T has really cracked down on it and improved their methods of detection. Even if you get this working, you will get caught if you start tethering regularly.

I do apologize, you are right. You will get a notice first. And then if you continue, then you will still bumped out. It is an email AND a SMS. Using small amount of data is usually the way to go. But if you trying to tether a computer, then most likely the data usage will be high. As I mentioned in other posts, as a former AT&T employee, if you want to tether, just upgrade your data plan. If you are on unlimited data, you will already get throttled at 3gb, so the Unlimited data and 3gb are basically the same thing, which is why the price is the same.
I have seem some accounts when excessive tethering is done, that the data is actually suspended, no matter what the case is. It's weird that AT&T can do that, but it is in their wireless agreement, which is at section 6 i think.
Thanks for the heads up about AT&T clamping down on this. It is good to know. I am doing this for an elderly couple who rarely use the internet. This is their first smart phone. They are savvy enough to know what that message means if they get it. I will let them know about it too.
They mainly will be accessing on the device itself but wanted the option to use it as a hotspot as well. They are already paying for data... they purchased the phone used and are under no contract (on Straight Talk). They want to use something they own, however they want. It's too bad AT&T is so mean.
It's like buying a computer and then the manufacturer says you cannot use bluetooth unless you pay them a monthly service charge.
[SOLUTION]
Oh yeah, I forgot to post that I figured a way out to get 'android-wifi-tether.apk' to work on the stock AT&T ROM.... here we go:
Get "Proxoid" from the Google Play Store
Get WiFi Tether from the Google Play Store (or from here [QR Codes in link]: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/)
Get a mobile data widget
Once you have them installed, get them all lined up somewhere you can easily run them one after the other.
Make sure mobile data OFF before you turn anything on.
Open Proxoid and check the box to start/stop Proxoid... you want it ON
Open WiFi Tether and turn on tethering
Now you can turn on mobile data
This worked successful for me. I tested it for about 10-15 minutes, playing YouTube videos, reading some blogs, checked out some google image searches and so on. If you do not turn Proxoid on before mobile data is on, this will NOT work.
ENJOY! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
UPDATE: This only worked on my Mac and Android phone. Mac picked up the HOX as a "device" instead of a wifi connection but it worked. Windows cannot find the connection at all. If someone knows how to get Windows to find the device and use it as a hotspot please let me know.
While tethering is a feature of the phone they own, the data being used is a service that is not owned and while I don't agree with what at&t does, I can understand why they would discourage tethering and it is technically within their right to limit how their data is used. They/you could have picked another company that allows tethering but as a consequence you may face saturation from all those heavy tether users.

Which is the reason behind the detection. Same as throttling. With the explosion of bandwidth needed, the big companies cannot keep up. Hence why smaller companies offer unlimited data.

[Q] Verizon S3 Root Tether ROM

Hello,
I have a rooted verizon S3 i535. I'm one of the lucky to be on the unlimited grandfathered plan. Anyways, I've been using wifi root tether for months and all of a sudden it just stopped working (yes I do have updates disabled, still on 4.0), well technically the wifi portion of the tether broke, it still starts but just no longer broadcasts the SSID. I also downloaded the SVTP wifi hotspot app (non-root) and that worked for a few days, it still starts up but I the wifi broadcast is now messed up on that device (can't connect with anything to the broadcasted network).
So anyways, I really need to get tether working again, I figure something is ****ed up likely with my S3, and I don't have too much time to **** with this, so I figured I'd just ROM it and start over. (Unless someone has some better advice?)
The only thing I really care about is wifi tether. What is a good ROM that you would recommend for me to use to get this back?
