Kernel - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Is there a "rooted" stock vzw 5.01 kernel or something like that? If there is can someone direct me to it? Thanks!

Someone else could likely provide more information, but the kernels and the rooting process are separate. Ideally you can unlock the bootloader which makes "rooting" easier and you can install custom roms with permanent root access. Sunshine is the bootloader unlocking tool. I believe there used to be a free version, but now it's $25 which is worth it if it works. Sunshine
If you can achieve S-Off (permanent bootloader unlock) you can always achieve root after that. Custom roms, kernels, and recoveries can be flashed easily.

i I am fully rooted. Perhaps I should have said a list of kernels that can be used with custom roms.

How to s-off and root Desire S hboot 2.00.0002 2.3.5?

Hi,
I have a Desire S:
- hboot 2.00.0002
- 2.3.5
- S-ON
What is the best and safe way to S-OFF and root this device?
Thanks
I dont understand, its possible root and install a custom ROM without S-OFF?
Just htcdev to unlock your phone
no way to s-off
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA

If you wish to s-off then you need to downgrade to a supported hboot, search the general thread (search:downgrade) for how to.
If you wish to stay s-on and have most of the advantages of s-off (root/recovery/roms) then you need to use HTCdev, but your warranty could be voided.
To me the best way would be; downgrade, revolutionary to s-off, install 4ext recovery, and use it to install super user.
s-on
Guys,
can you flash a custom kernel with s-on?
please respond this is the only thing keeping me from rooting

Y y yes, although you can only flash them via fastboot with HTCdev unlock.

hboot 2.00.0002 will be supported by Revolutionary? If it will be i prefer wait instead of do something wrong and damage my beauty.
@Fredericosilva
It may be supported down the line..... Not a guarantee though.
Many steps..... not really.... Its up to you at the end of the day.
If you don't want to downgrade your hboot u can try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
It'll leave your phone s-on, but you'll be root and you'll be able to flash roms.
So if I follow this guide what is the difference between this and do s-off?
I'll be able to install custom roms and install app that requiring root?
What the difference?
I rooted my phone earlier this week using the unlock bootloader method that HTCdev provided, and then rooted my phone, still have S-ON. At first I was very excited, but as I began trying to do other stuff, like flashing the kernel to overclock, flashing a rom and such I found out that it was not possible to do while I still had S-ON. So i went back, locked the bootloader, downgraded the bootloader 0.98.0000 and then used the Revolutiony.io to get the S-OFF and unlock the bootloader. It worked like a charm, and the method described in the guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20535265&postcount=26
is very easy to go by. It is, as mentioned earlier entirely up to you whether or not you want to do it. But I won't suggest waiting for Revolutionary to support the updated bootloader, since it might never happen and you'll end up growing weary knowing that you'll miss out all the fun you could have with a custom rom, overclocking and so on

it is possible to flash a custom rom, look at this tutorial i've posted before, you only have to do it via fastboot. I'm not sure about the kernel thing.

[S4] Completely stock phone: how to root and hide the "relocked"

Ok, I've seen many threads about my same questions but I haven't come up with a full answer.
I am completely stock and I want to simply gain root access (while keeping the official HTC rom), but hiding every proofs of unlocking ("RELOCKED", etc.),
From what I have understood, the procedure to take is the following:
1) unlock the bootloader, flash a recovery, install superSU: the guide is in Hasoon2000's AllinOne Toolkit thread.
2) gain SuperCID following this guide.
3) S-OFFing using Facepalm method.
4) getting back the "LOCKED" mark in bootloader following this guide.
My questions are:
a) am I forced to install a custom recovery in order to gain root access? I'd prefer not to install it, since I'd like to keep as closest as possible to stock.
b) is the linked guide for SuperCID still good? It's from May 2012 but I haven't found anything newer. Just to be sure...
c) do I need to relock before resetting the lock status flag as per number 4?
d) how can I get rid of the CID showing in the bootloader? If I set the CID back to what it was before SuperCID will it go away?
Thank you so much! If we can answer to these problems, this could become a good starting thread for other users too!
1) No, but it is the easiest method.
2) Yes, it's still valid.
3) Might work either way, but I'd recommend that you're unlocked.
4) S-OFF does that. If you S-ON again, it won't show.
Thanks usaff22!
About the recovery, is there a link to rooting without custom recovery? I haven't been able to found anything. If there is some documentation I'm willing to try.
Edit: did you mean the sideloading via "fastboot boot C:\recovery.img" method? As far as I have understood this allows me to boot into a temporary custom recovery without permanently changing the default one.
Do you think it's safe?

I'm trying to understand this.
Usaff22, what were you referring to when you said that you could install superSU without a custom recovery?
Thanks.

New M8 user, not sure where to start on installing a custom ROM.

There is unlocking bootloader, rooting, SuperCID, flashing CWM recovering and installing a customROM (ViperOne) on my new device, M8.
I'm completely capable of understanding and following the guides, but I'm just not sure the order I should be following to achieve all those.
Could you please guide me with the correct order?

Root using weaksauce first. Then use firewater to get s-off and unlock the bootloader. Then flash any of the recoveries in development (I like philz) using fastboot. Then boot to recovery, do a backup and flash your rom of choice. I don't see a need to use supercid unless your rom requires it.
Here is a little guide I put together that includes links to get you going.

Verizon HTC One M8 - Stock to GPE ROM

Can anyone refer me to a how to for how to go about flashing this rom on a 100% stock phone? Every guide I look at says before starting this you must s-off first, must root first, must unlock bootloader first which is confusing. Is there an all in one guide available for doing this?
With my GS3 it was much simpler, just unlock bootloader, flash recovery/root/ROM and go.

You need s-off because on Vzw HTC you can't unlock bootloader with s-on via htcdev cause Vzw blacklist it. So their for you need s-off to unlock thru there. If you use sunshine which is a app you run very simple that will s-off an unlock your bootloader then you can just flash a recovery an flash SuperSU for root an then flash any ROM you want.

S-on Rom, Kernels

With S-on I know with older HTC devices you could flash kernels from fastboot. Is that still doable? If not then what Roms can I safely put on the phone?

S-on won't prevent you from flashing kernels. On the other hand, a locked bootloader I think will keep you from flashing kernels and will definitely keep you from flashing roms. Given the status of our options for turning s-off and unlocking our bootloader I'm gonna assume your bootloader is locked and you're full stock.
Also assuming you're on lollipop, your only options to be able to flash roms are to wait and see if sunshine gets updated or find someone with a java card to turn s-off.

unlocking the bootloader is easy. I just want to make sure that flashing roms is still possible even with s-on.
Unlocking lollipop's bootloader is easy? Do tell... I haven't found anything in these forums about how to do that.
