Internal Storage: Recover lost download folder images without root? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any way to recover deleted images without having root or unlocking boot loader? my phone is a moto g xt1042 running lolipop. i hear unlocking bootloader wipes your phone clean making recovery impossible? can someone please assist.

Without root, you are limited to the data recovery apps available on Google Play. In future, at least unlock bootloader if possible - so you give yourself a lot more options for getting out of trouble.
Edit: With phone connected to PC / Laptop - perhaps you can use data recovery software to scan internal storage and recover the files.

Very unlikely in MTP, most if not all recovery software won't even see the storage.

I'd even say impossible. MTP allows no access to the raw storage, only to "objects" (usually files).

So if you want the photos, you are left with one option: unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and dump the userdata partition. Unlocking will erase userdata but that doesn't mean data recovery won't be able to restore the images.

If unlocking does the erasing right as it is implemented in AOSP's recovery, it uses secure erase (BLKSECDISCARD), which makes all previous data inaccessible.

Perhaps you are correct, but I have done the unlock erase myself. It takes seconds, and my perspective is that unless the data has actually been overwritten - there is still a chance of recovery.
At this point what is there to loose? and at least with an unlocked bootloader, OP won't be in this situation again.

[Q] Prevent CWM start from Bootloader?

With CM7 installed I am able to start CWM from bootloader by selecting "RECOVERY". Clockworkmod recovery itself has full adb support, so everyone who has stolen / found my Nexus S can gain full root access via USB simply by rebooting into CWM.
Is there a way to prevent this? Or a CWM version without adb support?
I'm worried about my google/dropbox/mail account - is adb root access for everyone with a simple USB cable a security issue?
I don't it's a good idea, but if the recovery partition contains only recovery, then you can format the recovery partition to prevent from booting it. Then keep your bootloader locked, so the only way to get access to the phone is to unlock the bootloader, which will wipe the phone clean.
Don't try it unless you are 100% sure though, I've read another guy whose brother formatted every partition in the phone, and the phone became bricked with no fastboot mode as well. I don't know which partition contains fastboot mode.

Forgot my unlock PIN

Hello, I have a
Nexus 5, bootloader unlocked on kitkat 4.4
I somehow forgot my new 4 digit unlock PIN i put right before I went to sleep.
I can't connect to my phone with the USB, doesn't show any files. Neither it has usb debbuging on.
I've entered PIN over 500 times but i still dont have "Forgot PIN/Password/Pascode" button.
I CAN'T , in no possible way wipe my data because the items i have there are crucial for me.
If there is nothing I can do then ill go hang myself.
Thanks
If your bootloader is unlocked you can flash a custom recovery, then pull your data from there using adb.
If your data is so crucial, maybe next time the best thing to do is keep backups and/or don't solely keep it on a mobile device.

USB Debugging is completely irrelevant. It is ONLY used for adb while in Android. NOT fastboot while in the bootloader or adb while in recovery.

can i pull using the method you suggested the GOOGLE KEEP with it's content?
If i flash a recovery, will i be able to flash back to stock with no recovery for warranty purposes?

In a custom recovery you have access to the entire /system and /data partitions once you simply mount them.
1. Boot into the bootloader
2. Flash a custom recovery using fastboot
3. Boot into recovery
From there on you can either use adb pull to retrieve files in your Internal Storage, pull app data if you know how, or remove the set lockscreen PIN/whatever itself.

You won't flash to "no recovery". There is a stock recovery (you can only really wipe data/cache from it hence the need for a custom one).
Technically you voided warranty when you unlocked the bootloader and triggered it's tamper flag, but it is easy to reset and relock after you finish doing whatever you want to do and reflash factory images.

Ok, thanks for helping me. I feel much calmer now
Ok, i've got into the recovery. How do i erase the lock pin?
Nevermind, used this link to solve the problem
http://www.androidfanclub.net/2014/03/reset-android-pattern-lock-password-without-erasing-data.html
I'm not certain of any conditions that you need to have fulfilled in the past but try this. On any computer go to https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager login using the Google account that is used for the device and you should be able to see your device. Click on "Lock" and you get:
New lock screen
Your current lock screen will be replaced with a password lock. Don't use your Google account password.
New Password
Confirm password
Recovery message (optional)
That gets sent to the N5 as the new lock screen and hopefully problem solved.

XT1032 another broken screen and get data post

Hi there,
first of all, I am not a native speaker so please be patient with me
I only want to have all the pictures from my last journey to Thailand which are stored in the internal memory. Nothing more.
Since several days I tried to get a solution for my mentioned problem but without any luck.
The current situation is:
- USB debug off
- bootloader locked
- stock rom (Guess somthing like 4.x)
- stock kernel
- no custom recovery
- screen is completly broken
- anything I have forgotten? If yes, then it will be locked or stock too.
For now I guess all the pictures are lost but I would be really happy if there is a way to get those pictures.
Thanks a lot!
You don't say what model Moto G you have. If you unlock Bootloader you have more options.
How to unlock Bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47705438&postcount=6
Alternatively, and I doubt it will work, but you could try booting (not flashing) into custom recovery.
Downloads:
mfastboot
ADB
Latest TWRP
(1) Put phone into fastboot mode - hold vol down and turn phone on.
(2) Use the following fastboot command
mfastboot boot twrp.img
You do not need to enable anything in TWRP.
(3) The following command will copy the contents of internal storage (including photos) to hard disk:
adb pull /sdcard/ c:/motog_backup/
EDIT: I just remembered unlocking Bootloader erases internal storage and would delete your photos.

Obviously try without unlocking Bootloader, however even if you do have to unlock and erase internal storage - it may still be possible to recover some / all of your photos.

How to recover files from stock TL-10 B560 stuck in a bootloop?

My completely stock TL-10 on B560, suddenly switched off during normal use and went into a perpetual bootloop.
I have attempted wiping cache and rebooting, but no progress.
My priority is to recover my personal data from the phone.
Is it possible?
Phone is factory stock, locked bootloader, no root etc.
Thanks for any assistance
I'm afraid of trying anything and losing my data on the phone.
If I place a copy of B560 on a micro SD and boot using Power+Volume-up+Volume-down, will that possibly allow the phone to boot?
If so will my personal data remain intact?
Thanks

First of all unlock your bootloader if you succeed then flash twrp recovery you all done now you can backup your personal data from phone I think flashing stock again wipe all of your data so try to unlock your bootloader first...

it's Simple.
1-just find your Update.app file with B560 or higher buildnumber.
2-extract system.img file from firmware package by Huawei Update Extractor.
3-Bring extracted system.img in a adb&Fastboot folder(Download it from attachment).
4-open a CMD Windows from this folder(by holding shift key and RightClick in a white space in ADB folder and choose "open Command prompt window here")
5-write this command: fastboot flash system system.img
6-wait to flash it completely."system.img" has a Big volume,so it may take a while to complete.
7-Enjoy & Click on Thanks Bottun PLZ!
1: if you Do the steps correctly any user data won't wipe from your phone.
2:No need to Unlock Bootloader as I think.but if you got any errors in CMD flashing,Unlock it and try again.
3:sorry For weak english.

Backup persist partition without unlocked bootloader?

I've read advice to backup persist partition before making any changes to the device but I can't seem to access that partition without root(?) or something like a custom recovery, both of which require unlocked bootloader (even if only to run the recovery and not flash it).
Is there any way to back up persist partition on a locked bootloader? Does it matter if I never set up my fingerprint?

try MSMtool readback function. google it pls
Although it does require bootloader unlock, I found it is possible to backup the persist partition without rooting and without installing anything by using TWRP:
* find a TWRP that is compatible with your phone
* fastboot boot <twrp.img>
Even though that's not a root tool, it makes partitions available such as boot, recovery and persist partitions for backup either via the "dd" command (in adb shell) or by "adb pull"
