Any alternative to stock magazine app? - Galaxy Note5 Themes and Apps

Just wondering if anyone know an alternative to the stock news magazine from Samsung? I have disabled the app due to occasional display glitches and I find with it disabled the screen is a lot smoother...less lag.
Is there anything that is similar to HTC news feed?

Have you tried Feedly? Or Google News and Weather?
If the Samsung Briefing is not working well for you, just download the main app, Flipboard. It is very polished and has no glitches. I use it everyday.

Yes.....but I want something where I can just swipe up and down instead of widget that keep changing to different news. Most of these feeds app have widget that work just like Flipboard. Damn I wish Samsung can fix that glitches bug with magazine..cause I like it just fine.

Friendstream replacement for AOSP ROMs?

This is the only thing that I've been missing since moving from a Sense ROM/launcher.
Does a nice scrollable widget exist that's similar to the stock Friendstream one?
EDIT: I've tried out Socialite, but it seems to never sync properly and eventually force closes on the CyanogenMod nightly builds.
I miss it too.
Try Pure Messenger Widget.

OP if you try Pure Messenger let us know what you think. I use Socialite and it seems to work okay... but could be better of course.

EDIT: I was just too tired to realize what I was doing incorrectly. Trying to get a widget setup that looks decent.
All of the different variants of the Sense style widgets look really "off" for some reason. Looking further, it's definitely the pictures, as they trail a bit off the left side of the widget. (See pic)
I'm also not fond of the left/right arrows on the widget. I only set up FB, so I don't need non-working buttons.
Pure Messenger will make you forget Friend Stream every existed.

Use the scrollable version with ADW/LauncherPro. It is better than FriendStream.
Like so:
Nice setup TheBiles.
PureMessenger > friendstream with the ability to use skins, add email and sms along with twitter and FB to stream, ability to select preferred clients for clicked feed, and oodles of config settings in a nice scrollable UI with ADW or launcherPRO. Well worth a buck-fifty.
I wouldn't consider Pure messenger better than Friendstream myself.
It's nice... but sadly needs a few fixes in my opinion
1) Won't display 'mobile upload' picture notifications properly. It only shows 1 picture in the internal viewer with no way to go directly to the person's photo list.
2) Pictures display as filenames in the list view, rather than the actual thumbnail as sense does. (This might be considered user preference, but I'd prefer to see a picture rather than <randomwords>.jpg )
3) No support for built in HTC applications for Facebook nor Twitter (aka peep). While the internal viewer can be dismissed in favor of a real 'app', the selection is limited to bout 3-6 apps none of which are the built in parts of HTC's rom. (Of course if you're not using HTC roms then this isn't problem
Overall it's a great app, and the best out there I've seen, don't get me wrong.. but Friendstream still has the edge in actual functionality for basic use. Sure, No themes, lack of customization hurt, but when it comes down to using the product for what it's intended for (Keeping up with posts/photos from your friends) it has a few issues IMO.

Had a chance to play with Pure Messenger Widget a bit more today.
Overall it seems "ok" but lacking in some ways as well. You can't post directly from the widget, which is a huge strike against it. I want the widget so I don't have to clutter my homescreens with redundant apps.
Guess I accidentally went past my 24 hours so I am the proud owner, or some such thing.

I'm using the scrollable widget currently, and like I said, it's neat to watch updates, but it's a killer that I don't see an obvious way to post anything to FB/Twitter through the widget, instead I'm forced to use the app.
It just feels "clunky" for lack of a better term.
I will say that the widgets can be set up to look better, it just seems that some of the skins are definitely not ones any OCD person would want to use.

It's Launcher Pro. I'm using the Froyo wide dock (in settings) and just setting up normal apps and using the Launcher Pro icons for them.
I like how it looks with a nice black/white theme.

Erm. You just click that little star, and select "update status." You never have to open the official apps. You can also click that little arrow and select "open Facebook" so you don't ever need an icon on the screen in the first place.

Where did you get that toolbar at the bottom. It looks a lot like mine but with a few more icons. Is that a 4g between the wireless and sat?

That's Extended Controls. The second icon is the Froyo hotspot toggle, but it does have a 4G toggle option. I just don't have it on there because 4G doesn't work with CyanogenMod at the moment.

Well crap, it looks as though I'd always been fat-fingering the arrow and only saw the "open Facebook" link in there.
I recant my previous statements and accept that this is a damn fine alternative to Friendstream. (after a little getting used to)
The only issue that I have with Pure Messenger is this: When a FB contact posts something on someones' wall it doesn't show who the other person is, even if the other person is one of your contacts it doesn't show.
Got socialite running on newest cyanogen nightly. Its pretty nice really, I actually like it better than friend stream.

Found another annoying bug

Well 1st there is no Tune-in Radio......and now it looks like my YouTube subscriptions from foreign countries are not showing up, it shows that i have 1 subscription, when open folder i see 2, and in reality on youtube.com i have 4
also i know there is a fix, but the lack on "settings" button is ridiculous, it doesnt even properly work in Google apps.
you mean FM Radio? It's there.

On my T-Mobile One S, Tune-in Radio is listed in the apps on the phone but is not listed in the app drawer.
However, it does have a widget, which can be added to the home screen.
I have no clue why they did it this way.
FM Radio is different that what the OP was talking about.
Another bug i noticed, cant share pictures with Picasa, i get "failed to retrieve account info" msg
this is while Pisaca sync works fine by the way, but i dont wanna sync, i always used SHARE option
also Geniewidget hourly weather results in FC.
Unfortunatly I was stupid enough not to do Nandroid backup and I cant test if thats my ROM or even stock ROM has those issues.
But development is SO slow on this, we dont even have stock ROM yet which I can flash.
I only have Nandroid of ROM with removed bloat and I still get ALL issues above

i have noticed this also .. it was there when i first got the phone and after some PLay Store updates now its not listed in the app drawer..personally i havent used the app before and dont really know if i were to root it if i would keep the app since i dont use it but i noticed it was gone the other day..
same thing happen to me last night when I got my one s
I updated tune in through google play store and the app icon is nowhere to be seen and I cant open it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but did not work.
I use this app everyday on my drive to and from work. I listen to 1310 sports talk radio in Dallas since I was relocated to Houston and I cant go without listening to this station!
I broke down and bought the tune in pro app and it works great and I have an icon.. something is definitely wrong with the included tune in app from T-Mobile..

Its not on the app drawer because its a widget. If a widget doesn't have settings it doesn't have a icon in app drawer. Some app just don't show up on app drawer like homescreen launchers. It's installed, but you can't get to It.

Its not a widget, Tune-In Radio is an app. Tmobile screwed up launcher settings. Work around it to use Nova or Apex launchers, they both work great.

Same problem here. I don't care much because the only reason I discovered it was clearing off photos before returning my phone. Disappointed, crossing fingers better luck with Galaxy S III.

HTC News app/wdget on Sence 4/4a

Hi,
I noticed that HTC removed their HTC News app and widget from Sense 4/4a.
Is there a way to get it working on Sence 4/4a ROMs?
And if not, what is the best replacement to its widget?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks! But I couldn't find it in Market. Did you mean FlipSocial maybe?
BTW, I didn't mention it before, but I'm looking for app where I can add my custom RSS feeds, and able to add my gmail (Google Reader) account, the HTC News could do all that.
The Google Reader app/widget is actually a good option which I'm using currently, just looking for other option also
minimal reader
You can use minimal reader. it is good customizable news widget.

Try that http://db.tt/2z9VGWTj
You still get a News and weather widget in Sense 4/4a. Isn't that sufficient
Miniread- new kind of news reading experience
Try out MiniRead news app. It shows the news updates in moving text style like TV news channels shows on the bottom screen(News ticker style).
It is very much customizable mini window and can be placed anywhere on the screen.
Just click on any news highlight and it'll open up in browser or youtube app depending on its web content or video.
Give it a try.

Is anyone designing a APK like the Samsung Multi View ?
My buddy has a g3 samsung and I like that feature , but after doing some research its only for samsung,
has anyone thought about doing this ?

The screen is probably too small for that, but if you really want something similar, you can use "floating" apps.

tried searching , cant find any info on this expect this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173227
The viper 3.1.2 already has a selection of floating apps as well as a sidepannel launcher to go with them it works great. Also search the XDA forum app section and there is the floating touch which floats on the screen and lets you do quite a few things without leaving what you are working on and you can add any app to it. and there is a few small apps in the appstore that can float over other apps. Such as a phone dialer calculator a mirror and a calendar.

Why? The Gallery app was only on the previews cause it was the AOSP app, same with messeging and browser apps. Once the factory image came out it reverted back to GApps and they were removed
There was never the new lollipop gallery app in either previews.
Check this and you'll know. Material design: http://youtu.be/Q8TXgCzxEnw
Im not sure how i feel about google not including an AOSP gallery and forcing me to install google plus so i can use the photo app or use a thrid part app since kitkats gallary FCs when i try edit my pics. I wonder if google is breaking any kind of antitrust laws with its unfair and deceptive practices because if anyone decides to puchase a stock lollipop phone their only option to view thier pics is to either sign up for google plus or download a thrid party app.

Can anybody tell me which music and picture app they show in the Video?
Thanks!
Absolutely hated this. Dont wanna use no crappy G+
The G+ gallery is terrible, an average app developer could reimplement a better version of it in half a day. Quickpic isn't a valid alternative if you have your images on google's cloud. Quickpic max rex is 2048x2048, and doesn't support geotags from picasa cloud, while the old aosp gallery didnt have neither of these limitations. Plus quickpic doesn't support photospheres. I wish there was a valid alternative, but atm it seems that we are stuck with sideloading a 2011 aosp abandoned apk
Try Pikture, a material designed Gallery app, beautiful and fully fonctionnal : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.diune.pictures
They said that the old Gallery app will not be present in the Lollipop version. I don't like this either, maybe if we had waited for the OTA, the old Gallery app would still be there. And it doesn't necessarily need Google+, you can log out of Google+ inside the Photos app.

I'm not really sure what's the fuzz with quickpic is about. The app is stuck in 2012. As I said, it has severe limitations when dealing with cloud images from Google, like the lack of support of geotags, or higher resolution than 2048x2048, or photospheres.
