Droid MAXX vs Droid Ultra? - Motorola Droid Maxx

Looking through threads, I seem to see the word Droid MAXX, and Droid Ultra interchangeable. I have a Droid MAXX and want to root it, and possible use it on T-Mobile Network, but when I search threads and google I seem to find results for Droid Ultra as well.
So if there is a difference, in either phone specs or guides that are online?

Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx (Droid Ultra Maxx) are the same phones, the only difference between them is the battery capacity. Other than that everything is same, they can be rooted by the same method and by the way I think you can use all GSM networks on this phone without rooting it, it will just give an error on bootup which can be ignored and everything else is fine.

[Q] Swap battery + back of razr hd maxx with razr hd?

I was interested in getting the Rogers Razr HD since its GSM but I was curious if I could swap the back of that phone and battery with the back and battery of the Razr HD Maxx. Anyone know?
From looking at them side by side, it should be possible. The only difference is the Kevlar back.
I was thinking about doing the same thing if I get a Dev edition for Verizon.

Prospective Droid Razr Owner....Frustrated...Please help

I have posted this around a bit because I am a bit frustrated so much over a phone that is not even mine.
My mother broker her OG Droid Razr maxx last week from dropping it so since I am the tech guy at home she wanted my help to get a new phone...
Friday she added a line to her account....and got a GS3....She loved the phone and the colors(eye roll) but the phone had horrible reception which Samsung is known for. Call Quality was awful and she was willing to settle for it. Of course she'll settle now but i refuse to deal with her calling me for the next 2 years complaining about her phone....so i convinced her to take it back.
Monday We got a Droid DNA by HTC.....again she loved the way it looks and the colors and the sense animations(eye roll again)....Except once again she had crappy service.....it is better than the GS3 in the sense it doesn't drop calls but the call quality is crap...People can't hear her and she can't hear them.
We've already exchanged the phone once...so I am praying Best buy will let us exchange it one last time...I know they are sick of my face and I am sick of being there in best buy.
My mother is not a power user...this is partially my fault. Her droid razr maxx seem to perform well and i rarely heard her complain about it...But i wanted my mom to have a good phone that is going to be supported hence me choosing the GS3 and DNA since they were newer...but both were crap.
So it is obvious that Motorola is our best bet since where she lives it is extremely rural...trees surround the back of the house....
I have a Nokia Lumia 920 on ATT and i only get 1 bar of service but I never drop calls.....
So here are my choices...
Get my 100 bucks back for the DNA and get one of these phones
1. Just get her a new OG Droid Razr Maxx
But from doing research on the web, I hear the Razr maxx has a screen that is so fragile it literally spontaneously cracks...which makes me wonder was it really her that did it when she dropped it or what.
2. Moto Droid Razr M
It's free at best buy and i get my cash back.....but i hear it has that stupid antennagate thing the iphone has when you hold it at the bottom and you lose signal.
and lastly
3. Moto Droid Razr Maxx HD
I want to get her this.....It is a nice looking phone except i hear the screen randomly turns purple for no apparent reason.
Also, apparently the Maxx HD has some kind of hissing sound that is noticeable when talking on the phone....
So i need help....what phone should I get?
What issues are there with the Maxx HD? Or have the issues been fixed?

I have the RAZR HD (not maxx) XT925 which is very similar to the RAZR M. This isn't presumably the same RAZR HD that's available where you are which would be possibly the XT926. In any case, thought you might want to know that like the M, I have a very slight antennagate effect on mine and the hardware is very much the same, just a differant sized phone. Sound quality isn't excellent in calls but it isn't what I had read about before buying it (and as you described) either. Its is good quality, but just not crystal clear as you might want given the amount of research and presumble frustration you've put into the search. I usually wouldn't reply to a thread that wasn't asking about my handset but it seems like you've done a lot of background work and felt I should give some input given the lack of response. Overall, the antenagate thing and the sound quality aren't issues for me, and I'm very picky as well. My biggest gripe is that the crash handler sucks on my phone. It rarely gives me the option to close an app but instead freezes and then I either shut it down after a while or it actually does a simulated battery pull all by itself. It's not that often but it is frustrating that it happens at all. It seems to be an issue when RAM is scarce. Admitadly, though, I may have frozen one app to many and this could be the cause.
thanks for your reply
I have the Maxx HD and notice none of the things you mention. I'm overall very happy with the phone and like the size and battery life. It also seems to be able to withstand some abuse; I've dropped it a couple times with no sign of damage. I haven't dropped ti flat onto concrete or anything, just fumbles while getting it out of the case or back in. If there is a color cast to the screen it don't notice it but I'm also not looking for it. Calls, data and coverage serve me well. I do think the camera is sub-par. Different software seems to help but if using the phone as a full blown camera is your thing you may be disappointed with that. It seems fine for snap shots and quick postings online. I'm currently having an issue with the hotspot function not working, which is included in my plan, but other than that the phone has worked well for me for the past 3 months or so.
I have a regular Razr HD and don't have any issues.
I had an OG Razr Maxx with no issues.
I would not get the OG Maxx, because it is close to end of life.. It's been out (Razr anyway) for more than a year.
If buying a Motorola phone, you should get Razr M or Razr HD family.
I think the regular Razr HD outperforms the OG Razr Maxx, in terms of battery life. At least the way I use the phone. YMMV
Get the Razr Maxx HD. Motorolla is well known for making phones that have great reception. I've had an iphone 4 for personal use and Blackberry for work, bothwere used in my home office. The Iphone would not work at alland the Blackberry has poor reception. The Razr Maxx Hd does not have all bars but works way better than the Iphone and Blackberry.
Battery life is awesome.
I've had no issues with the phone at all. The most recent update downloaded and installed without a hitch.
Now I just need a root method for the latest update

Worth Getting Razr HD?

I am getting a Razr HD, is it worth getting now? or should I wait to get maybe a S3 with 2gb ram or HTC DNA? they are like $100 more money, I like that Razr has almost stock android like cm's but Im not sure
spec wise the droid dna has more raw power than the s3 and the razr hd !
2gb ram should not make much difference if you plan on using cm because cm is superfast on the razr hd- which has 1gb ram.
if you're after a great build quality, excellent ergonomics, the superb kevlar feel and most importantly battery life,, i suggest you go for the razr hd maxx.
if camera is your primary concern, i suggest you avoid the razr.
i would go for the droid dna amongst the three devices you mentioned above..
good luck.

I recently chose between the DNA and the RAZR Maxx HD....obviously I'm in these forums so you can see the one I chose.
Razr HD is the best built line of phones. Bonus with the maxx HD is you'll reduce your charging time by at least 50%

Currently there is no phone like Razr Maxx HD, not even new Droid (lack of sd card).
Actually that's really sad. Maybe Lenovo will change that..
I recently bought a used bootloader unlocked RAZR maxx hd. I don't regret it one bit. $280 with a shell case holster combo, 16gb card, and OEM car dock.
Went from DROID1>DROID 3>BIONIC>RAZR MAXX>RAZR MAXX HD.

Had one from my RAZR maxx xt912, put it in as soon as I got the HD. Using the 16gb in my WIFI XOOM.
I just traded my droid DNA for the maxx HD. So far I like it much better. The DNA had a nice screen, but I think the maxx screen is pretty nice too. Mainly, I really like the notification light. Even though the DNA had one on the back which I thought was very cool, it gets covered up by a case.
Just for curiosity, could you compare battery life between dna and maxx hd?
Sent from my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD
I can tell you right now the DNA had the worst battery life of any phone I have had. I personally didn't have a problem with this, as I have a wireless charger and am normally near a charger in some form. My usage would need a charge later in the day. Haven't exactly had the maxx long enough yet but I am pretty sure it will go at least the full day for me, maybe more.
Thank you. Some guys on another forum tried to convince me that "The DNA gets awesome battery life, comparable to the Maxx HD, if not better depending on the rom and settings.". What was hard to believe...
Yeah that's nonsense. Don't get me wrong the DNA is a great phone. But look at the specs, the battery dwarfs the DNA. No amount of ROMs, kernels, apps will change that.

I've had my Razr Maxx HD for almost a year and like it as much as the day that I got it. I can get 2 days out of a battery charge and custom roms make it like getting a new phone all over again. :good:

I saw specs, that's why I couldn't believe that 2020 mAh battery with quad core, bigger screen, higher resolution, etc. can last longer than 3300 mAh with lower specs. Maybe if custom rom and kernel shutdown two cores and undervolt. But what's the point to buy high end phone and slow it down?
Razr chipset is good enough for normal use, without Verizon bloadware would be even better. More primary memory would be good but maybe kk update will improve memory management.

Right now I use razr a lot, online all the time, synchronizing gmails and corporate emails, calls, navigation, browsing, listening music and even occasionally play games. Last all day and still left some juice, usually 20-40%.
I didn't even know the DNA had a quad core. Performance wise I don't see any difference between the two. The battery is a huge hit though. Development seems much larger for the DNA, but with that said I really didn't like the new sense.
And DNA doesn't support sd card, what's very important for me. Unfortunately new maxx doesn't support it either
I had HTC Desire. Community was great but tbh HTC is not famous with their support and they always made some hardware fail(s).

Droid ultra/maxx/mini all the same?? Exact???

Hi. This may seem like a silly question to some but I have looked around and haven't seen a clear answer anywhere. Are all 3 of these devices COMPLETELY interchangeable in terms of root/roms/updates? Stock updates as well?
I just bought a Droid mini and was shocked not to see my device listed at all on this site.. Not a single page dedicated to the Droid mini.
Again sorry if this is an obvious question...
Basically they're the same in the sense that they all use the Motorola X8 chipset (just as the Moto X does), they all have the same display resolution (1280x720), same Adreno GPU, and they all share other aspects in common as well but they are not exactly the same devices, no, there are some differences.
The Droid Ultra came out, people complained about some aspects of it, then the Droid MAXX came out to resolve some of those issues, and then the Droid Mini came out to be the "low cost" model, I suppose - the Droid MAXX and Mini are closer to each other than the Ultra is: the Ultra doesn't support wireless charging whereas the MAXX/Mini do, that's one difference.

Huh? All three devices were released at the same time. The Maxx isn't a bugfix version; it was marketed for the monster battery and the Ultra was hyped as the thinnest phone on the market. The Mini was sold on the smaller form factor, not as a bargain phone.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/article/2013/07/droid-mini-droid-ultra-droid-maxx.html
I bought my Maxx for the battery life and my girlfriend got a Mini because it fits better in her smaller hands (though she sometimes says she wishes she got a Maxx, too).
Thanks all. But I know that information already. My question was, do people use all hacks/tricks/roms from 1 on the other without issue? If I see a good looking rom for the ultra, am I to assume it works equally well for the mini? Root options etc. Stock sbf (or whatever they're calling it nowadays...)...
Yes, the phones are kinda interdependent, as MAXX and Ultra can use Moto X ROMs. The Mini CAN run the same ROMs but it seems it's not fully compatible... Sound doesn't work on many builds, apparently.
Was being facetious about the releases, guess I need to add that tag for clarity sometimes.
A while ago I verified that the stock system images were the same for the Ultra, Maxx, & Mini. But as pointed out there are some subtle hardware differences. For example the smaller form factor of the Mini may have led Motorola to use a different component for the audio. The stock image apparently can handle these differences at run time based upon what model phone it is running on. Custom ROMs could possibly do this as well, but not necessarily.
Well, as the general consensus seems to be that that they are indeed the same device, wouldn't it be fair to include that in the name? Instead of "droid ultra", this device family should be called "droid ultra/maxx/mini" so that people with a phone other than the ultra know that they are in the right place... Or am I missing something..?

Droid Maxx or Samsung Galaxy S4 Tmobile

Hello Everyone !!!
I wanted to ask a question...
Iam going to buy a phone for myself and Iam confused between 2
Motorola Droid Maxx 32gb (Verizon) for 250$
Samsung Galaxy S4 16gb Tmobile M919 for 250$
both phones are in used and mint condition.
which one should i go for ?
Get the maxx and don't even think twice about it. The battery on the s4 is pretty terrible. Build quality and speakers also leave a lot to be desired. And don't even get me started on touch wiz... The DROID maxx is a lot better than the reading reviews on the Internet will lead you to believe. They combined a great screen (non pentile amoled) with one of the best cpu's of all time (s4 pro used to wreck quad core chips a full generation newer than it), an excessively large battery, incredible speakers, great build quality, durability, and the most useful software features in the entire industry. Seriously, this shouldn't even be a question.
is the price fine for it ?? 250$
One could look on SWAPA for a comparison price, but I haven't seen to many 32 GB maxxs in a while. Soooo glad we got ours when we did. Best phones we have had yet. Then again had mostly Motorola's anyhow. From a Droid 2 Global rooted to the Droid Maxx unlocked.
im currenlty have a s4 and i miss so much my maxx for the battery life.
truth is, if you want a good camera, grab the s4
if you want battery life (obviously) grab the maxx
also for fashion reasons, people recognize more a Galaxy s4 than a Droid Maxx, S4 catches the views, Maxx not.
me? i just really miss my 2 day battery and 32gb memory, i already filled this s4 and have 1gb left and i dont even have all my music on it.
Its your call.

I am going to buy this phone and I would like to know how big of a difference is the camera in the s4
Looks this examples of picture quality, the crisper image is s4, i took all the photos, same position, with my s4 and my friends droid maxx.
you decide.

first 3 images are s4, next 3 are droid maxx, then s4 again and the last one is droid maxx
thnx guys...
i have decided to go for Droid Maxx because more juice is better than just a little crispier picture quality ... for me
