allow unknown sources - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using a moto g xt1032 with latest cm 13.0 nightly. I would like to allow "unknown sources". I can't access security settings, because I always get the error message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" ( old problem i never got fixed). my workaround used to be to use SQLite Editor to edit settings storage --> settings.db --> global and change the install_non_market_apps value to 1. But on cm13 SQLite doesn't find settings.db . The "adb shell settings put global install_non_market_apps 1" from my pc doesn't work either. Does somebody know another way how to allow unknown sources ? I need it to install xposed installer, so i can't use a xposed module to change the setting. help would be appreciated

[Q] How to allow Unknown sources if..

Hey guys,
I'm trying a stock-based rom, and I can't open "security" option in settings (I always get fc) in order to activate "Unknown sources". Thus, I can't install last version of GravityBox (and any module). My question is, how can I activate "unkown sources" option without enter in settings? Thanks in advance
PD: I guess "security" option wouldn't give me problems if I install an official Kitkat, but I don't wanna to
Thanks for all
Try to remove Xposed first, sometimes it does strange things.I couldn't open Dev options before cos of it.

Moto G Security Settings Crash

I have a Moto G XT1034 1st gen. I have tried flashing multiple lollipop and kitkat roms and everyone crashes when I try to open the security settings or the vpn settings. The settings app crashes not the phone. I have wiped all the caches including dalvik and erased all userdata. I currently have the latest CM12 rom, May 26 2015, and the 4118 bootloader. Another issues is when I try to uninstall an app the phone will reboot and not uninstall the app. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Bump having the same issue !
Did you find how to solve it ?
It's seems that it's related to gapps.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/109433-fc-when-trying-to-open-settings-security/
But i don't want to install them (privacy) , how could I fix this issue ? Because I can't install any apps without it...
Edit: Found a way to install apps with unknow sources via ADB " adb install -r filename.apk "
Edit2 : The command "adb shell settings put global install_non_market_apps 1" does not work (no error message but the files are still blocked°
Check on root explorer and the setting is right , This is really weird...

Nope I don't but the full (fastboot image) is available online.
That will not work.
Lets start like install xposed framework app.
Open it. Goto framework and click on install.
After a reboot install xinstaller module for xposed from google. Install it as an app. Goto xposed. Goto modules. Tick on the xinstaller and reboot your device.
After reboot you will see xinstaller app just open it and mod your package installer as you want.
If it helped hit thanks.
Always have a nandroid backup of your stock rom even if you hate it by your heart
Thanks a lot , it's solved , thank to you !

Xposed framework : Unable to complete the download of modules

Hi,
Facing some weired problem with xposed. Using stock MM 6.0.1.
When trying to download any module via xposed, the download progeess bar complete its process but no install button is displayed to install the downloaded module.
What I tried :
1. Unchecked the option for greenifying system apps in greenify app and rebooted (of course).
2. Ensured that there is no such app which draws over another app by changing the app settings.
3. Cleared the cache and data for Android download manager (not the app but the default download manager, i mean the one which comes with the OS)
4. Checked the proxy settings of my WiFi network just to ensure that xposed is getting the Internet connection as and when needed without any blockages.
5. Checked system time and date.
Still no luck. Anyone has any clue about it? Am I missing anything? Any help would be appreciated.
Attaching logs with name "exposed error" which indicates there is some error but I can't figure that out on my own.
Also attaching the screenshots when I press the download button and screenshot of system info.

You can give up on dload, it doesn't work.
I can't find any firmware for your model. You could rebrand to C636 and flash an older build for it, I don't get though why you don't want the latest firmware

Thanks a lot for your help, the reason is that Google introduced after the original no fixes, but restrictions for users, I think google has forgotten that its operating system is linux based and that it can not bother to restrict the freedoms of the users of Android, it's sad to know that google reaches that and as you see I do not want to have to root the phone to be able to do what I've always done with freedom. Thanks again for your help, you're a 10:good:

Use this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Dload does not work, except for 2 older builds. The guide linked is much faster.
I downgraded with firmware finder.
Open Firmware Finder, find the update you want to install (only use the full ota's), tap on it, install it with proxy or DNS, after you updated do a full wipe in the recovery or you will stuck in a boot loop

Many thanks to both, I could restore the cell to the original firmware use the program you told me and the version that (before) said EMUI 5.0 MHA-L29C636B158 fullota, I watched several videos from youtube to see the steps of the Firmware Finder, verify With the compatibility button from the program and said that it was authorized the firmware that (before) said, then I had to be careful because the download of the Firmware Finder although one check the three options do not lower them, you have to download the three files one For one, after following all the steps of the videos and do the proxy recognized the firmware as an update and installed correctly, rebooted and stayed as you said in an infinite cycle, I did the reset factory from the boot and ready And charge, the funny thing is that I do restore to the original MHA-L29C605B111 version of the cell phone factory in January 2017 just what I wanted, many thanks to both !!!, are a pair of " 10 ":good:

There are basically 2 methods how to force the firmware to the system update.
The first one is by using a proxy. Go into FF -> Settings -> click "use proxy to install" -> download & install the add-on -> go back to your fav firmware and click on it -> then click on "get an update throw proxy" -> the Add-on will show up -> go into your system settings -> select WiFi(WLAN) -> long press on your current connected WiFi -> click on "Change Network" (or something like that idk it's an poor translation by me) -> Do a check mark on "Advanced options" (or something like that xD) -> click on proxy -> select manuell -> hostname type "localhost" and port "8080" the last one just leave empty and save -> go into the system updates and have some fun
The second one is by using a different DNS server ^^ just go into FF -> select your fav firmware -> click on "get an update throw dns" -> scroll down -> select "register update" -> now click on "copy dns address" -> go into your system settings -> click on WiFi(Wlan) -> long press on your current connected WiFi -> click on "change network" -> select "advanced options" -> next go to "ip settings" -> select static -> scroll down to dns -> delete all dns addresses -> paste the copied dns address into DNS 1 -> save -> you are good to go and can now install the firmware

Yeah it should, but you must check if you can install the firmware (with "check firmware access" ) or the installation with abort by 5% and the device simply restarts

My recommendations son:
1- to give you in the program FF check the access to the firmware by IMEI
2- download the 3 files one by one because they are all selected only low one
3- In the configuration of the wifi as well as put the manual of the proxy, also put the manual ip addresses without gateway and without dns, the reason is because when the pieces in the system configuration look for updates and the this one finds the one that this Available in the proxy, when it starts and ends the proxy download searches the internet for more updates and finds all that are available and takes hours of hours to go down when you really only occupy the one you downloaded from the proxy.

Ok I got it to work, You need to reset wifi settings to default once again for it to authenticate.

Try to do it with internet connection, with the gateway and dns posts so you can see the internet, configure the proxy and try again
After downgrade from 185 back to 156 update of January 2017 phone feels a lot faster. It is definitely faster at opening my favourite game, clash royale, as well as overall loading times. Could it be that new updates are limiting the processors for some reason? On latest changelog version 190 says: "Fixed overheating problems in some cases". Opinions?

Greetings, I'm from Costa Rica, my operator is Movistar.

Magisk.apk Install Error - "app not installed"

I just to had to do a fresh install from a Qualcomm dump to 9.0.4. I am running into an issue when attempting to install the Magisk.apk. It attempts to install the apk, however, it quickly errors out with, "app not installed". I have turned off Play Protect. I haven't been able to find the 'Unknown Sources" switch to allow it - thinking that could be it.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Thanks, in advance.
For future reference....I found the answer by enabling unknown sources in Settings > Apps > Special Access > install unknown apps
