Attemting to get my HTC One M8 out of boot loop... help? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Okay, I'm going to begin by saying I'm not particularly well versed in this sort of thing.
Sunday night, my phone ran out of juice and I went to plug it up. Rather than function as normally, the screen stayed off for several seconds while the LED remained orange, as if it was charging. A few moments later, the phone would only go to the bootloader screen, and was stuck in a boot loop.
Now, the phone is still in a boot loop, but I'm trying to boot it from the SD card in order to fix it.
The phone software is official, I've never Rooted it or made any modification to the OS, and the phone status on the bootscreen is as follows:
*** Software Status: Official ***

I"m not quite sure what these stats mean, but any help towards me fixing my phone would be greatly appreciated!

Try putting RUU on an SD-Card or through ADB and see if it works.

Apparently having it as S-ON is a bad thing?

S-ON is fine if you don't know or need S-OFF
The thread explains exactly how to flash the RUU
"Option 2
Copy 0P6BIMG.zip to root of a physical SD formatted to fat32. No exfat! No internal storage! Must be external SD formated to fat32!
Reboot phone to bootloader and follow prompts once RUU is detected by phone.
Option 3
Fastboot RUU mode . This method assumes you have a working ADB/Fastboot directory on your PC. Download RUUish file and place in your working fastboot/adb directory. Boot your phone to fastboot mode and connect to PC. Issue the following commands.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
###while in this mode your phone will display an HTC logo on the screen
fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
##while in this mode you will see an HTC logo on the screen and a green status bar across the bottom of the screen. When command output ##completes it may say reboot required to flush etc... if that's the case issue a "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command and restart option 1 again.
example
## assuming flash completes and no further flushing/reboots are requested from the cmd output you can now reboot IF you simply wish to reboot the system you can issue "fastboot reboot" which will reboot system.
## expect a good 5 minute plus first boot!"

Okay, I'll attempt this tomorrow b/c I'm in an area with REALLY bad Wi-Fi right now, can I update you in the morning?

It seems that your problem is complicated. Stock software and no recovery access makes it difficult to give an appropriate advice. Maybe something wrong was flashed on this phone or the worst case - "fried" eMMC chip. You can try to search across the forum for any similar or try various solutions but I cannot advice how to proceed. Sorry

Please just tell me what to do or give me the thread cause I have searched and can't find precisely what will help. Just post something please I beg you.

please what else can i do?? is there a hboot installer for windows for me to try??
please help AmidaBuddha u have done a lot but i still need a little help. thanks
As much as i know would be the last possible solution to replace the bootloader with dd command inside adb shell or try to flash it with fastboot (to make this the htc drivers [if you are using windows] and the android sdk with the given android plattform-tools must be installed, if some parts are not present look at the index thread)
Walkthrough:
fastboot:
reboot your device to bootloader and put it in fastboot mode
open commanline at your pc
attach device to pc
cd to the directory where the hboot.img is ( extract it from the pg88img.zip file)
Code:
fastboot devices
(your device should show up as some letters and digits at the right of it should stand recovery, also the adb daemon is started if it wasn't running before)
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
this replaces your current hboot with the hboot.img file, don't interrupt the process or pull the usb cable, this can brick your device, i'm not responsible if something goes wrong.
dd:
put the needed .img file of the bootloader at the root of your sd (extract it from the pg88img.zip file) and rename it to hboot.img
reboot to recovery
Open commandline at your pc
attach device to pc
Code:
adb devices
(your device should show up as some letters and digits at the right of it should stand recovery, also the adb daemon is started if it wasn't running before)
adb shell
(this opens the adb command shell, from where you can execute shell commands right at your device)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
(this backups your current bootloader partition to the backup.img file)
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
(this replaces your bootloader partition with the boot.img)
exit
(exits adb shell)
adb reboot bootloader
(reboots your device to bootloader)
this backups your current bootloader to /sdcard/backup.img and replaces it with the boot.img, but beware this is hard stuff and be carefull, don't stop the execution of the any dd command and never pull the usb-cable while it writes your bootloader, this definitly can brick your device, i'm not responsible if something goes wrong, good luck.
Tectas thanks, see what i get using fastboot:
on command line:
c:\users>fastboot devices
SH14HTJ05*** fastboot
c:users> cd c:\temp
c:\temp>fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
sending `hboot` <1024 kb>... OKAY
writing `hboot`... INFOimage update is bypassed!
OKAY
on phone under bootloader menu:
Can not roll back hboot version
........
will try dd option now.

[Q] HTC Sensation XE Flashes Frequently

Hi I unlocked my phone from a thread here in xda forum but can not find the link now. Recently I factory reset my phone because my it became terribly slow. Now when I go to an app and back to home, my home page always flashes white with HTC written and loading sign appears and then gets back to normal. But I cannot go to the market or online anymore and also cannot sign in to google account. So I wanted to restore the data from a backup I did before. I am not sure through which software I did that. I have some files in a backup folder I kept in my PC. The files are
1) .android_secure.vfat.tar
2)boot.img
3)cache.ext4.tar
4)data.ext4.tar
5)nandroid.md5
6)recovery.img
7)system.ext4.tar
Now I tried to install CWM recovery. I tried the method where you have to put a CWM image file and adb files in a folder(total 5 files) and install them through command prompt whlie your phone connected to PC as fastboot USB in bootloader. But when I tried to install it I got "writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)" this method. I don't know if the way I am following is the right one or not. I want to just go to the position where I unlocked my phone first time. Some information appears in the top screen when I boot into the bootloader.

Maybe this will help to understand what I have done with this device which apparently I don't. Also when I try to go to the recovery option in the bootloader it shows a Red Triangle with exclamation mark infront of a device picture.
My phone's software info are,
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version: 3.6
Can anyone please help me to get my phone to normal. Thanks.

I tried to install SmartDroidBerserk 2.2 for my htc sensation tonight. After following the instructions on your website http(removeThis://)smartdroidromsDOTcom/berserk.htm I ran into a huge problem; I'm stuck on the HTC splash screen.
I followed the instructions up to where it said to flash the rom. I believe that I misread this part as meaning that you could install the rom from the zip on the sd card, so I tried to do so. I got an installation error with a status 1 message during the installation. I thought that if I tried to reboot my phone that I could try to reinstall the rom or revert back to an old backup through recovery and then try to actually flash the rom the 'proper' way.
I'm now stuck on the HTC splash screen and can't do anything with my smartphone. I tried to connect it to my computer to run adb to get it back into the bootloader. When I try adb devices it doesn't even recognize that my phone is attached. The same goes for fastboot devices - no return. When I go to my computer and try and select my phone as a removable disk, windows asks me to insert a disk into the disk drive because I formatted the phone during your installation process. After I discovered that I can't use adb to get back into the bootloader, I tried to press volume down and power at the same time but I still can't get into the bootloader with that method, it just stalls on the htc splash screen, not even displaying the "quietly brillant" slogan.
If there's anything that anyone can think that would help my situation, I'd be extremely grateful! I've got a 600$ brick!!

I was able to get into the bootloader by holding down Vol + power (guess I wasn't holding it down long enough). When I get into the bootloader and try to go into recovery my phone still gets stuck on the htc splash screen for some odd reason. yes, I put adb and fastboot in a folder C:\mini-adb and navigated to that folder. adb would print out 'attached devices are' and nothing below it when I would run adb devices. fastboot devices simply returned nothing.
I got to the second step part 9 where it asked me to fastboot reboot after flashing the recovery (which was successfully written) however when I try to reboot it just stays stuck on the htc splash screen still.
Sorry for the double post.. I just removed my battery and was able to go back into the bootloader and could get into recovery. I was able to restore a prior rooted backup but whenever I try to reboot my smartphone it loads into recovery and not into my rom.
I have the added problem of not being able to access the sd card where I would put the Android Revolution .zip file. Whenever I try to access the phone's drive windows ask me to please insert a disk into removable disk F:.
EDIT: I just used the rom in the opening post instead of using the Android Revolution rom and it installed just fine. I can use my phone again! Thanks so much rzr!

4.Reboot to HBOOT: Shutdown completely (disconnect USB if connected and pull battery if necessary) then while holding down the VOL-DOWN key, press the POWER key for about half a second. The phone should boot into HBOOT, check the PD98IMG.zip for consistency, then prompt you to install. Select VOL-UP to install.
5.Once installed, HBOOT will prompt you to reboot by pressing the POWER button. Do this
I can get to step 4 and instead of flashing the PD98IMG.zip is says parsing and just goes back to hboot. I can't flash anything.
I have been making some MAJOR progress on my phone.. after messing around with a lot of fastboot commands, I found this with helped .. fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img if forces some images to boot.
Also the link I posted above only will work if my phone is relocked. I can't even make post in the Inspire 4G Android Development , because i'm "too new " to ask a question. But I managed to get his program to run again and I've noticed something. on step 7
7.Once successfully completed, the phone will automatically reboot to HBOOT and begin the process of installing the RUU. The only thing you have to do at this point is acknowledge the prompt to install by pressing VOL-UP. (Note: the RUU install may skip a couple of images during the install but this is normal.
IT FAILS to copy the RUU to the sdcard. and that's what has left my phone without an OS. I've also got the stock RUU htc_inspire4g_att_RUU_3.20.502.52_US.exe to run and complete But my phone hangs after the HTC logo..
So i'm headed in the right direction. Any ideas ???? ~ T
SO I've made a HUGE step in progress yesterday, I installed JellyTime rom and inspire mod and gapps. and forced the boot.img file to boot using fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot boot.img it made the boot.img to run and start JellyTime. You don't need S-Off to fastboot flash boot.img. Just an unlocked bootloader.

This is not at all helpful. He is asking for boot.img or S-Off help. If he can't do that his ROM is irrelevant.
OMG. this is the worst place for help ever. I have Jelly time installed and I can get into it But only AFTER forcing the boot.img to boot. I CANNOT boot into jellytime by it's self normally. BECAUSE I cannot flash the boot.img file I get an error message. Because I need S-OFF to be off. right now it's on. Everything I've tried has failed.

This is just about the worst way to start a post where you're asking for help.

Did you even read what I wrote before??

You don't need S-Off to fastboot flash boot.img. Just an unlocked bootloader.

Also, you haven't told us what error message you get when you try to flash the boot.img. And is your bootloader unlocked??

What does forcing the boot.img means? there is no other way to flash a boot.img that in fastboot if you are S-ON. There is no need to be S-OFF to fastboot flash. In fact, having S-OFF is not enough to enable flash commands in fastboot (you actually need ENG S-OFF for that).
I suggest that you give detail information about the errors and what you are doing if you want to get helped.
Hello,
I have htc inspire. My phone was new sept 2011 and worked until july 2012. My phone was set to charge only and usb debug disable and was never rooted. One night I put the phone to charge and the next day it I turned it on but it never made past the white screen. I have tried to put the rom on sd card as PD98IMG. I tried RUU. The phone lists:

When I try using RUU it gets stuck on reloading bootloader
When I try the PD98IMG method using a goldcard, it gets stuck:
parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER -UPDATING
[2] BOOT
[3] RECOVERY
etc
Please help
Not sure but What helped me get past the HTC logo screen is just recovering the old Stock of the phone.
The link provided is to return back to old stock AT&T Roms.

Boot your phone in Bootloader mode (PWR + VOL DOWN).
Run the RUU Installer.
For S-Off, Advanced Hack Kit (AAHK) was quite a big help to me.
My problem is I have s-on. Phone freezes when I try pd98img on sd goldcard. I can connect with fastboot but I am not sure how to use it. The phone was in charge only & usb debug off when it use to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can't access recovery

A friend has given me his Desire S to fix what I originally thought was just a stuck power button that prevented it from starting up. But the button is now fixes and I've been trying the last few days to get it to start up.
What I have tried so far is to enter Recovery mode, but upon choosing it, the phone would just go to the HTC logo screen, fibrate once and then fibrate agian after a second or two for a few times and the screen would go blank. The same happens with normal bootup. It also seems that the phone is still running with the blank screen because I have to pull the battery to startup again.
I then tried to use the latest RUU (Android 4.0) from HTC but the phone is not recognized by the computer (I think it is because it didn't startup enough to be able to present itself to the computer). So I unlocked it and used fastboot (from Ubuntu as OS) to flash the recovery (recovery_signed.img) and boot (boot_signed.img) from the RUU. With this recovery and normal startup would remain at the HTC screen and wouldn't go blank as before - still fibrates a few times.
I also tried to rename the rom.zip to PG88IMG.zip and putting it on a SD and the bootloader does detect it, but presents the normal boot screen afterwards (I think it complains about it being incorrect - the display is too quick for me to see the error).
Now I also have a Desire S and made a backup of it before I installed a custom ROM. So I also tried the recovery.img that I have from this backup, but then recovery is stuck on the blank screen again.
Is there anything that I did wrong, missed or may not have tried yet? And how can I go about to fix it?

The PG88IMG wont work coz ur s-on. Ul need to extract the zip file and put the recovery.img in ur fastboot folder and then flash it from fastboot, volume down + power then select select fastboot then plug ur phone into pc and open a fastboot command window and type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Also a ruu u run from fastboot and u need to relock ur bootloader.
(i dunno how all this is done using ubuntu but thats how on windows so im sure ul know or figure it out)
Ok, didn't know that I needed S-OFF for PG88IMG - thanks for pointing that out . I did flash the recovery (paragraph 3), it is just named `recovery_signed.img` and not 'recovery.img` - I assume that there isn't a difference between the two?
Do I open the RUU while in fastboot on the phone (after relocking) or do I run it from a fastboot command?
(On Ubuntu fastboot is installed as a program so I can call it after I CD to the extracted rom folder and I assume it is working since I didn't get any errors)

Well it depends, could be 4ext recovery, CWM, or TWRP. But as far as the name, could be called peterpan.img and it wouldnt matter haha

Yh boot ur phone into fastboot, connect it to pc, relock bootloader and then run ruu. The ruu should be exe file so just double click it to run.
Ok, relocked it and went into fastboot mode and then opened the RUU, but was not recognized. Then followed this (droid-now.com/2013/10/fix-working-fastboot-drivers-windows-8-1-x64/) since I used Win 8.1 for the RUU and it flashed successfully.
But it is still stuck on the HTC screen - gave it 30 minutes for the first boot after flash. Recovery is also still stuck, so I reflashed and same issue.
