Possible Locked Boot loader Root Method? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so this just reached reddit, could it be used for the xperia z5?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3un674/the_trustzone_vulnerability_that_unlocked_the/

I've only had a quick skim over this and it seems as though it is only for SD805 kernels, and it is for unlocking the bootloader. However I could be wrong, if any dev reads this and I am wrong feel free to correct me.

I am just jumping into the android moding world, and I just can't seem to find clarification on a particular issue. It seems that most phones are rootable but many have a locked bootloader. From what I can glean through reading many posts here and searching the web, the geekish options that you give up on a phone with a locked bootloader is the ability to flash the ROM. However, this is contradicted by examples here on this site of ROMs for phones with locked bootloaders. (Moto Atrix for example.) Is it that custom ROMs can only go so far with rooting alone, like the inability to replace the kernel? What exactly do you give up by only achieving root with a locked bootloader vs a rooted phone with an unlocked bootloader? Is it ROM related at all?

You can't flash a custom rom without root. Root is needed to write to system partition etc.
But you can get root without a custom rom.
A locked bootloader means you will have to stay on stock rom. Means no custom kernels, no custom firmware.
Someone correct me if im wrong.
still confused
As mentioned there seem to be custom ROMs for for phones with a locked bootloader. The new Motorola Atrix is an example. While there is complaining that the bootloader is locked there are custom ROMs (2, I believe, so far) available from members of this forum. What is it that can't be done with a locked bootloader?
I'm still confused, but I appreciate the reply.

[Q] Root & Bootloader unlock

Ok, I am new to this forum so please excuse me if I posted this incorrectly or if there might be another thread similar! (I tired searching but could not find anything so please don't scorn me )
So this is my problem...
I have the Moto G 2013 Verizon Non-Dev (XT1028) that I am sick and tired of seeing "lollipop will be coming soon!" But it being a non-dev edition it does not qualify for Motorola's Official Bootloader Unlock. I searched everywhere on YouTube (yeah, yeah, not the reliable...) and Google on how to root and bootloader unlock but none of those things have helped me. Let me cut to the chase!
Basically I am on 4.4.4
~~~Rooting~~~
It requires my bootloader to be unlocked
~~~Unlocking Bootloader (unofficially)~~~
Using Sunshine~
"Your device has to be rooted in order to check for compatibility. " (not the exact message but the gist is I cant unlock because I don't have root)
So with those two being in mind are there anyways to bypass one or the other? I'm stuck in an infinite loop between being able to root requires a bootloader unlock and the bootloader unlock requires a root to do... Any known ways to root 4.4.4 without bootloader unlock OR unlock my bootloader officially or unofficially?
P.S. This is my first post as well so I'm not sure if my random babbling helped explain so if any information is needed I can try to provide it! Thanks for any help and suggestions

Help a Xperia noob out with some questions please :L

So this is my first xperia device since the Xperia Arc was released way back when, and I have been using HTC phones. Which are WAY different in terms of Rooting / Unlocking / Etc.
So long story short, What I want to know is what Can I currently do to the Xperia Z5? I see there's no custom ROM's yet which is expected , but I see mixed results about unlocked BootLoader & Root , the main thread says that a bootloader hasn't been achieved, yet there's a few root methods which have been successfully completed , requiring an unlocked bootloader, so naturally you could see the confusion..... Can someone point a SONY noob towards the right direction in terms of bootloader unlock / rooting? Running the E6653 ( not sure if there's variants )
Basically you currently need to unlock the bootloader to to get root. And doing so loses some features which u may possibly never get back. So most people are currently waiting for another way around to be figured out

My heart literally dropped as I read this..... Because I already unlocked the bootloader. I'm assuming it's the bootloader unlocking that destroys some features? If so , which ones?
And how can I tell if they were actually destroyed / bootloader unlock actually worked
Unlocking the bootloader on Xperias will delete the device's DRM keys. These keys are unique per device and once gone are gone forever. They're needed for Image enhancements like X-Reality/Bravia/Super-Vivid and some camera features too - low light and noise reduction algorithms I think. Sound improvements (ClearAudio+...) too.

Well crap lol, is there any way to actually make sure that the DRM's were deleted or if the bootloader unlock was actually successful? I still have a few days to swap the phone out if anything goes wrong ( Bell wouldn't be able to tell a bootloader unlock ) , I haven't had enough play time with the phone before the process to actually see a difference with the camera, I read somewhere that if TrackID works, than it's not unlocked, is that true?

Any way to unlock the bootloader if the services menu says "No"?

I swear my z3c said no, but I was able to do it anyways - I think that was by flashing an alternative ftf.
the bit of reading I've done seems to say that the z5 has some added things preventing anything unsigned from running, so the only way to get and keep root is to unlock the bootloader.
I'm not concerned with keeping the DRM stuff, but I am concerned that I'd brick my phone if I went forward with trying to unlock the bootloader when I'm apparently not allowed to.
This is on a Z5, on contract with EE

Locked Bootloader, Config Says "No" Can't Unlock, But Have Root... Am I stuck?

Locked Bootloader, Config Says "No" Can't Unlock, But Have Root... Am I stuck?
Hey everyone,
Well, I had to pull out my previous phone, my Tmo D6616 Xperia Z3. I replaced it when the battery was all bloated and could explode, etc. I replaced it with an LG G5. And, I have the horrible GPS issue with my G5 that just doesn't work well at all. This bugs me. I travel with my family enough that I use it and has caused some wrong turns, etc. I want to replace it, but don't see any good deals in my situation since I have no number to port-in or a new person to bring on the plan.
So, here I am checking on what I can do with my Z3. I've replaced the battery, got a new case, and also replaced the screen protector... just like a brand new phone, except the ROM is really outdated. It is currently on the latest OTA from Sony, Android 5.0. I did check to see if there is a more recent stock ROM and there isn't.
I want to install a new ROM, in which I should be able to backup the TA partition since I am rooted.
When I do the *#*#.... code, then check to see if the bootloader can be unlocked, it says no. Because of that, am I out of luck?
Am I able to use root to unlock the bootloader and install another ROM?
Same question here...

I also want this answer.
If it says "no" to unlock the bootloader, then you can not unlock the bootloader.
You can, however, use root and recovery.
Check out https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056. Just stick it to xperia Roms. Search the forum, I think Marshmallow is the latest.
As far as I know, other Roms than Xperia are not recommended for a locked bootloader. But there are other, xperia roms, for a locked bootloader Z3.
Good luck.

I was able to get recovery installed, thanks for that. I am not so sure about the MM rom, however. I haven't seen one for the D6616. That would at least make it a little better to work with.
