I'm currently downloading it, but (as usual) the speed is horrendous. If anybody has a a link with proper speeds (mega, google drive etc) would be highly appreciated.

Installed, but no VoLTE on Telia. Device not rooted.

VoLTE will only work if your carrier supports it. Plus if your carrier supports it, the CSC has to match as well for the option to be there in the Phone settings.

I installed it. How it performs? Exactly the same as before. Nor better, nor worse.
Battery wise I cannot comment since the first thing I did was to root and install new kernel (the stock one in terms of battery is [email protected] af).

How would you know the stock kernel is bad if you didn't give it a chance.
To be honest, the stock kernels are pretty good. My wife gets over 4 hours of SoT every day with about 20% to spare everyday on bone stock fw!

Coming from the COI9 firmware, which had the worst battery life possible (when the phone was simply laying on the desk with 30 minutes of SoT I was at 40% battery. That is with power saving mode enabled FYI and no apps running in the background. Yes, hard resets were performed multiple times to try and fix the problem) I'm very skeptical about this firm's battery life. So I decided not to give it a chance

That sucks. my carrier supports wifi calling and volte and I don't have the choice to activate the settings. what a waste downloading this rom.

4.0.4 heavy battery drain

Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with the battery draining with the new 4.0.4 ? My GF Nexus S was still on 2.3.6 so I got the factory version of 4.0.4 and installed it. I obviously wiped the data/cache/etc. Also I rooted it with the latest superuser.
I'm running the latest nighly of CM9 and everything is perfect, so I thought it was time to give her the sweetness of ICS.
So with all that useless information, has anyone found a fix for the battery drain in 4.0.4?
Thank you,
WarpedMonkeys
Since I installed 4.0.4 my battery lasts up to 20 hours, no problem at all.
I'd suggest manual full wipe with fresh 4.0.3 stock rom and then manual ota update to 4.0.4.
I'm also using matr1x kernel, it's just awesome
Hope it helps

Yeah, me too! Try another ROM. I am currently using CyberGR-MOD|NS.NGN ICS v10 HYBRID and getting superb battery life (and performance, mind you ).

Stock rom is ok, but updating with ota from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 may lead to bad battery behaviour. Someone says that battery stats wipe could lead to better battery performances, but I think fresh install could do the trick

I used this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445621 and installed:
Android 4.0.4/IMM76D/UCKJ1 Radio/KL1 Bootloader
Official factory fastboot images, must be flashed using fastboot on an unlocked bootloader. Contains recovery, radio, and bootloader.
THESE IMAGES MUST BE FLASHED USING BOOTLOADER VERSION I9020XXKA3
I can't really be more fresh than this. I'll try messing around with her settings, but if it doesn't get better, I'll just flash her the latest CM9 nightly
Check your battery usage, if Android OS is using more than 8-9% after some regular usage, then that's the cause.

Updated form 2.3.6 stock to 4.0.4
OTA and battery usage is still OK. Lasts about 1-1.5 days. Permanent Wifi or 3g, internetusage and some gaming-No probs!!!

A full battery cycle could do the trick. Don't let it die, anyway, because it can cause battery wear... Just take it to 10% and recharge it nighttime... You may also wipe battery data before, if you wish...

Heavy battery drain ??? i don't have any issues with it, infact i have not touched my phone for 1 day 6 hours and 25 minutes and my battery dropped from 95% to 82%. My phone was fully charged (didn't go higher then 95%). I am very impressed by the results.
I changed 2 settings:
1. Automatic screen brightness.
2. Turn screen off after 30 seconds.

Hello,
my Nexus S was updated automatically to version 4.0.4. I will tell you. My problem is with data. Now I can not open any WWW page in default viewer,Opera sometimes opens some pages but quite rare. I can not get any email in K9 Mail. Update of Google maps took several hours, unfinished, eaten all my battery! Sometimes I am without signal or with bad signal.
It is for sure problem with 4.0.4 because I have unlimited data. So, no FUP in this case.
I was satisfied with 2.3.6. How can I do downgrade without rooting etc. my phone ?

Try find out what is hogging your battery/cpu. Download os monitor.
Or just flash a new rom to see if that helps. make a backup first

Which rom is best for battery life?

I recently purchased this phone, and have been appalled by the battery life, it's atrocious. I also seem to have a bug with Maps that keeps draining me, even though I don't use any location services, etc. So now, I'm going to install a new rom, and see if my battery improves significantly. My question is, which rom is the best with battery life? There is no point in having this fancy phone if you can't use it because the battery is dead before you even get out of work and it's just been sitting in your pocket -_-, this is what happened to me.
Right now I'm downloading CleanROM 6r2, latest build. I do intend on flashing it later tonight and testing how the battery level is, and if it still declares I'm roaming when I'm obviously not.
Right now I'm stock, rooted and bootloader unlocked I have no put any roms on the phone as of yet, but battery is terrible regardless. My brother has the same phone, same carrier and same battery issues albeit, not nearly as detrimental as mine.
Thanks in advance. If CleanROM is the best with battery life thus far that would be great. I'd like to try 4.2.2, but hear it's got terrible battery life?
Sorry to be the first to say that "what's the best Rom" is frowned on around here
You really need to find out what works best on your phone through reading and testing.
However just to point you in the right direction. clean Rom has never let me down and synergy can sleep like a baby
Finally I'd think it is safe to say aosp Roms will never compare to battery on tw
They can still be very good but for your purpose you may have better luck else where.
God bless the American people
You could just freeze maps if you are not using it.

95% battery life is controlled by the Kernel, not the rom. The other small 5% can contribute to battery such as odex vs deodex, quick boot up. Also, I'm not going to bring in user settings control such as screen brightness, apps sync intervals etc.. I'm talking about if we have 2 devices with the exact same setup, the kernel is where it makes a diff in battery saving.

This ^^. I thought about it, but its just too big and intrusive.
Besides, my phone shouldn't die idle in my pocket. My brothers AT&T S3 stayed on for 3 days without usage, mine died in under 8 hours.
Anyway, I do understand that "what is the best" is frowned upon. I've been around a little while, I'm just not very active. I really wanted more of a general answer regarding user feedback with certain roms, or experiences maybe.
Also, regarding the kernel that is news to me, I didn't know that. Thanks for the information. I guess I can redirect my search to a kernel.
I do want to report though that my battery life has improved significantly I think than what it was before. Granted the rom was just installed today and has already died, I used it very heavily today though as opposed to the very minimal usage that killed it previously. I wont for certain until I get back to school and have it idle around for a while.
I'll check out Synergy if I'm not impressed, although CleanROM right now has fixed the MAPS issue I was experiencing. It no longer shows it as something that's killing my battery and I left all the settings the same as they were. So that tells me it was an obvious bug in my software specifically or something of that nature. So far so good.
P.S., did you personally have better life with Synergy over CleanRom?
Btw, I have always maintained a modest setup on my phone that should improve battery life. Low screen brightness, no WIFI unless I need it, no mobile data unless I want it or need it. I never checked on sync intervals though, I'll have to do that.^_^
It all depends on the kernel and its setting. My experience so far is that I overall get good battery life with LeanKernel, GalaxyKOR, KT kernel regardless what ROM I use. I also use DS Battery Saver in Slumberer mode. At one point after fully charging my phone I left the screen off for 8 hours woke up it went from 100 % to 97%.
I'll check out DS battery and some of those kernels. What is your primary ROM? I'm digging CleanRom right now.

Leankernel has an TW and AOSP version. Good thing you did a backup.
Download Better Battery Stats to better track down your wakelocks. Besides that I don't really think there is anything that can be significantly improved going from ROM to ROM. 4.2.2 ROMs are starting to rival TW in terms of battery life. The biggest battery killer is low signal. If you are in a building or on the edge of a service area having your phone constantly switching towers or going from 3g/4g really eats up the battery.

I purchased the 7000mah battery and lost my data connection when I was away from my house. I asked around and it's a known bug, but a lot of people don't care because the battery lasts so long. I have the 4200 hyperion and 4400 Anker and love the Anker... as a back cover, I use Seidio's cover because the ones that come with Anker and Hyperion are crap.
On my phone, I have used almost all the TW and AOSP ROMs.... For me, CleanRom gets the best battery. I am not into messing with my performance settings, I don't find it helps all that much and causes more problems than it's worth. With the Anker battery, I go through about 35% battery per day... if I let my phone get down to 5% battery life left, I usually have somewhere around 6 hours of screen time. For me, that's plenty.

Terrible battery life on 4.4

Just wondering if anyone has had bad battery life while running KitKat on their gs3.
I get about 7 hours. Used to get around 11-12 with moderate usage with 4.2.
Anyone running a custom kernel?
Open to input and suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You won't be able to run a custom kernel if you have a locked bootloader. I've been running AOSP based KitKat roms for months since I never took an official update, and 14 hours is usually a non-issue.
I used to get 12-15 hours on 4.3 now with KK4.4.2 I get about 7-9 hours now. It's definitely a battery drain! I even replaced my battery and still doesn't help.
Have you tried a factory reset after taking the update?
Sorry I didn't mention this. I am rooted and I have flashed a custom ROM. Carbon to be exact.

Im stock and Verizon did a complete wipe of the phone and loaded 4.4.2 right to my phone. Didn't make a difference. They are claiming it's hardware but I don't believe that especially since I'm out of warranty.
Oh, that makes a huge difference. Look for Steve Spencer on Google+. I'm running his latest CM11+ build and getting ridiculous standby time.

People reading this can't use aosp, no cm11 unfortunately.
Anyone tried switching to ART runtime? Might not notice anything, but in theory it should save some battery with how the runtime operates. Switch to it, then let it settle for a few days and see if you notice a difference. It'll definitely boost performance.

If it is doing the same on another kernel, then it must be something going on with an app that is hogging battery or poor signal quality.

In 8k,yes it's the best shot.
The only downside is you won't get VoLTE,so you won't be able to use jio for calls and stuff without keeping data on forever.
And the second thing is it's single sim only so it limits you to choose one carrier for all your stuff i.e.,you can't use jio for data and other carrier as your primary sim for calls and stuff together.
Everything else is more than good .

Just like the above user said if you aren't planning to use Jio sim (you won't have Volte feature and jio app drains your battery) or dual Sim then go for it at 8000..but ensure it is a new device or a barely used device since battery is non replaceable. If it's used heavily for 2+ years then don't go for it.

Yes,though, battery can be replaced but almost all of the batteries available online are lame so yes if battery backup will vanish if the device is too old.
Though it won't be a problem as you only want to use the device for a year.

I would if in good condition, got my Oneplus One late last year which will hopefully last me through the majority of this year, if I do get a new phone it probably wont be because my opo isn't good anymore, probably because I'm bored and I'd sell it.
Coming from a Moto G3/LG G2, this phone has been great. Solid battery life, though personally can't break the 7hr sot barrier with my usage, no issues with performance, build quality and screen, and the camera is amazing when you get Oxygen OS blobs flashed with a compatible kernel (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/cm13-x-cm14-x-ab123321-kernel-oneplus-t3545468), and use the Oxygen OS camera to take full adavantage with a great manual mode. With this combo, I can challange the camera of my friends Galaxy S6 in the majority of cases. PM me if you want some pics I took from the cam.
And of course, this phone is one of the best supported phones by developers, and I'm sure this device wont die out in terms of aftermarket software anytime soon.
$130 is a great deal, got mine for £129, so about $160 ish. I highly recommend you get it.

And of course, this phone is one of the best supported phones by developers, and I'm sure this device wont die out in terms of aftermarket software anytime soon.
$130 is a great deal, got mine for £129, so about $160 ish. I highly recommend you get it.

Bro I won't be paying for Jio as I already have 4 mbps broadband and single sim is not an issue for me. Just I want is better device with camera , gaming performance and battery life (from 100% to 0%) in 3hrs of heavy usage. How would be the battery life for 2yr old device or 15 month old device.

It would be fine, don't worry.
You'll get around 4-5hrs of heavy usage.
This device has everything you want.
And kudos to 4mbps broadband.
Though, you'll still be using Jio till 31st March, right?

No sultan N ROM because he is still confused that he should take AOSP or lineage os as base.
I'm using Candy 7 ROM by @NoSpamDan , it's the best in battery life and camera(OOS blobs+sultan's Hal's).
Can't tell about mokee 7.1.1 as it is not so popular.
Tuga power also good but candy7 is much better in camera.

Oh wow, I went through the exact same upgrade path as you! I got my OPO for $320 at the start of last year. Sounds like a rip-off, but I'd say it was well worth its price, considering the prices here are rather high and availability for products is a lot lower compared to the US.

Depends if you use Gapps or not,it is optional because many people use micro g as an alternative for Gapps. Also I think you can flash Google Assistant and also home button animation zips.Am using substratum nav bar and after flashing dynamic Gapps,Google Assistant works fine for me.
There is dynamic nav bar feature too.The only thing missing for me is Quick setting headers.Because of that I'm not able to use any Qs_header substratum theme.
Lemme know if you need some screenshots
