[MM][6.0] Theme your 6.0 SystemUI ! - Samsung Galaxy S II Plus

!!!Thread is still under construction!!!
Hi,
Today I have installed an AOSP 6.0 rom to my old lovely Galaxy S2 Plus thx to @GHsR
Unfortunatly AOSP hasnt that much customization options and there is no build in theme engine so I decided to theme my device by my own.
I started by modifieng the SystemUI and now I will show you how I modded my SystemUI.
So, the cool thing is that the MM and LP xml's are nearly similar and this makes theming easy if you already have themed smth in LP
What modifications am I going to show you?
I don't know how they are all called but I hope you know what I mean
Changing statusbar expanded header color
Changing toggle area background color
Hiding the annoying "No notifications" text
Changing brightness slider background color (writing now)
Changing Notification background color (writing soon)
Making recents rounder (writing soon)
More to come soon (hopefully )
What do you need?
Apktool Programm; Best of all is this one but you need to insert this to the "Files" directory to make it work with 6.0 BIG thx to @Flextrick and @iBotPeaches
Knowledge how to use apktools
An xml editor. The best one is this
A Root-Browser. The best one is "Root explorer" (paid app)
WinRar (maybe)
Java and all that stuff
Patience if you get fc or recompiling goes bad
How will it look like (e.g)
This pic shows only a low modded SystemUI. The notification drawer header and the toggle area background colors are changed. The "No Notification" text is also hidden and the Recet app item's corners are rounded.

Getting Started
Changing Notification Dropdown Header Background colors
1) Copy your SystemUI.apk (System/priv-app/SystemUI) and your framework-res.apk (system/framework) to your SDCard using your Root browser
2) Make a backup of them if you want to restore your original themed SystemUI.apk
3) Copy the files to your PC and use your decompiling knowledges and decompile "SystemUI.apk"
4) After successful decompiling go to "SystemUI/res/values" directory and open "colors.xml" with Notepad++
5) Go to line 14 called "<color name="system_secondary_color">#ffff5A00</color>"
change the #ffff5A00 as you want. Here you can get colorcodes (the "ff" 'is alpha/transparency this 'should' stay as it is). The made changes will change the color of your Notification Dropdown Header AND long pressed Notifications menu. Save the XML
5.1) If you want to modificate more than skip the next steps here
6) After the modifications are done recompile the SystemUI folder and merge the "AndroidManifest.xml" and the "META.INF" folder from the original SystemUI to the modified one using WinRar or smth.
7) Push the modified SystemUI.apk to your phone (System/priv-app/SystemUI) and set the premissions to rw-r--r--
8) You may need a reboot maybe not.
9) You are done
Changing Notification Dropdown Toggle Background colors
1) Copy your SystemUI.apk (System/priv-app/SystemUI) and your framework-res.apk (system/framework) to your SDCard using your Root browser if not done
2) Than make a backup of them if you want to restore your original themed SystemUI.apk if not done
3) Copy the files to your PC and decompile "SystemUI.apk" if not done
4) After successful decompiling go to "SystemUI/res/values" directory and open "colors.xml" with Notepad++
5) Go to line 13 called "<color name="system_primary_color">#ff006458</color>"
change the #ff006458 as you want. Here you can get colorcodes (the "ff" is alpha/transparency this 'should' stay as it is). The made changes will change the color of your Toggle area background AND the Volume-Panel.
Hiding the bad a*s "No notifications" text
1) Copy your SystemUI.apk (System/priv-app/SystemUI) and your framework-res.apk (system/framework) to your SDCard using your Root browser if not done
2) Than make a backup of them if you want to restore your original themed SystemUI.apk if not done
3) Copy the files to your PC and decompile "SystemUI.apk" if not done
4) Go to "SystemUI/res"
5) Now look for the values-xx folders (xx standt for the language. example -> if your phone language is set to English open "values-en"... if your phone's language is set to Turkish than open "values-tr"... if your language is set to German than open "values-de"... and so on) open it with Notepad++ of course
6) Press ctrl+f and search for "No notifications" if your phone's language is set to English... search for "Bildirim yok" if your phone's language is set to Turkish... search for "Keine Benachrichtigungen" if your phone's language is set to German and so on....
6.1) there will be 2 results on the serach; you have to concentrate on the second one; delete ONLY the "No notifications" text and dont write anything else into the string. Save the XML
7) If you want to modificate more than skip the next steps here
8) After the modifications are done recompile the SystemUI folder and merge the "AndroidManifest.xml" and the "META.INF" folder from the original SystemUI to the modified one using WinRar or smth.
9) Push the modified SystemUI.apk to your phone (System/priv-app/SystemUI) and set the premissions to rw-r--r--
10) You may need a reboot maybe not.
11) You are done

Changing Notification background color (writing soon)

Great work ???
But I think it's not important because cm edit on aosp 6 and others developers like aicp and RR and all of them support these things you have made ,, so we only wait @haky 86 and @GHsR to build cm , rr and aicp ROMs
,,,
If you want to do perfect thing , try to port kitkat touchwiz from s4 to s2 plus Lol ,, that's amazing

Great work. I was wondering if you know how to make the "all apps" (in the app drawer) backround transparent as well.
Can you make the top bar fully transparent?
this is new to me... how do i edit the status_bar_background.png?

i just found this:
Pull your framework from your phone.
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk /android-sdk-windows/tools (or wherever you wanna pull it, I choose tools cause its easy)
Open it up with winrar or something of the sort. Navigate to res>drawable-hdpi.
Find the file titled status_bar_background. Change it to whatever you want (may it be a transparent image, or a blank image for 100% transparency.
once you're done use
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
to push it back to your phone.

i had to rename the framework.apk to a .zip and extract it. then you can find the .png file and edit it. haven't finished doing it yet, but so far, so good. i'll let you know.
EDIT: nope, just put my phone into a boot loop... i'll wait for better instructions.

Not sure if by top bar you mean the guy that says 'verizon wireless' when you drag the panel down, or if you mean the notification bar where the signal meter and stuff are. I really wanna see the latter happen - particularly with a 'frosted' translucent look, perhaps just for the icons.
Basically a notification bar + related icons to match the default Launcher Pro icons. Or a perhaps the effect the vanilla lock screen sliders have. By switching to launcher pro & hiding the notification bar, the home screens really open up compared to the dark framing the stock htc objects give the phone. When I get fired from work for spending too much times on cell phone and subaru forums, I'll get on this... but until then, I'd be happy to pay/donate to someone who can make this happen.
Thanks SoCalMiles. Works great!

How would I go about modifying the services.jar file myself? I'm trying to combine this with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740502
If I'm not mistaken, unless it's a difference in Froyo over Eclair, it's not necessary to modify services.jar AT ALL for a simple graphical switcheroo like this.
To modify any image in framework-res.apk, you need to associate APK files with your favorite Zip file manager (e.g. 7-zip, BetterZip, whatever). The key is to find a program that allows you to open and view the contents of the zip without extracting it.
Once you're viewing the contents of the apk file, extract a copy of the image you wish to edit. After your edit is finished, put the modified image back into the apk, replacing whatever original file was there. Then save the apk. Finally, push the apk back to your phone while in recovery mode, with the /system mounted, with "adb push <path to framework-res.apk> /system/framework/framework-res.apk".
Again, the key here is not to try to extract and then try to re-zip the apk -- Android expects all apk files to be "signed" in order to use them. You can search the XDA forums for more on how to sign your own apks (it's actually very easy), but what I've described here is sort of the "poor man's" method for theming framework-res.apk.
Of course, I take no responsibility for any pleasure/pain you experience from trying this. I'm relatively new to this myself, but searching the XDA forums will lead you to a wealth of information on this topic.
Good luck!
Thanks, I know I can change the files in the .apk by doing that. What I was referring to didn't get quoted. From the original post:

I tried opening services.jar with a hex editor but didn't get anywhere. I'm not sure what program I'm supposed to be using.
would like to know how to do this as well so i can combine it with the no location icon zip
its launcher pro
I like the transparent status bar so much I'm fine with leaving the location icon there but would prefer it to be hidden.

It is. With froyo, you have to make a change in services.jar as well as a transparent or semi-transparent image.

Yeah, true enough. It's a whole different kettel of fish now - we just need to edit the xml's (decompiling/recompiling with apktool) and drag them into the framework now.
I just had a bit of a play... I managed to change the color of the provider text by editing res/layout/status_bar_expanded.xml. Changing status_bar_icon.xml didn't seem to have any effect but I did add some alpha. I will have another look tomorrow and post what I find out in my themes reference thread.

Has anyone here modded framework-res.apk located in system/framework?
I'm doing what is wrote in this guide, but phone dosen't boot then. I had to flash it with SEUS.
Here is what i do. Am i missing or wronging something?
Code:
Step 1:
Connect phone to pc, enable usb debugging and open adb. Type:
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-res.apk
That will pull your framework-res.apk to whatever folder is displaying in your command line.
Step 2:
Find the framework-res.apk on your hard drive, right click and open with 7zip.
Step 3:
Use png's here or create your own and dump into the appropriate folder within framework-res.apk.
Step 4:
When you are done editing the files open up adb and type the following command:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard/framework-res.apk
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/framework-res.apk of=/system/framework/framework-res.apk
That will put the new framework-res.apk on your phone. It should automatically reboot (if not reboot it) and your changes should be applied!
When running the script above you can replace framework-res.apk with whatever you want. For example, Timescape.apk
Remember, it is CASE sensitive I made this problem many times)

There's a few things you could be doing wrong, the one that springs to mind is if your doing some xml mods and not adding resources.arsc to the framework in the proper manner.

It depended on unsecure shell.
All worked fine.

Thanks to this little beauty I got all of the icons done in one shot .

[GUIDE] A N00Bs GUIDE for Using UOT kitchen to theme your Android Device

This guide is written keeping in mind the HTC explorer users but can be used to customize any android device with a little changes in between.
1.Firstly open the UOT Kitchen site. You'll see the welcome screen as below
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now click on kitchen and you will get the below screen with all the mods u need to select to apply to the final theme.
2.Now click on the mods you want to make, like if you want to change the battery icon in the status bar select the battery tab and tick on "Use This Mod" and click on "SCB with %"(in this all the colors are predefined) or "Custom battery"(in this you can select the color at each battery level and battery bars of different styles) and select the one of your liking and click on generate preview to see how the mod looks like.In the mod I selected version c,new charger for which the preview looks as below.
Note:If you select the custom battery bar select the correct color of taskbar that you are going to apply in the status bar tab (as if u select the wrong color later in your mobile the percentage numbers may not show up correctly).
3.Similarly now in the icons tab you can select the themed icon set or custom uni-color icons. If you select the custom uni-color icons don't apply the as it has no affect on sense lockscreen. In the mod i've selected the preview is as below.
4.Then moving to the status bar tab , in this you've to select mdpi and click on the mods you want to apply and click on preview
Note:The transparency doesn't work with stock odexed rom but works on deodexed , the top bar text works for froyo only and the quick settings tab for 2.1 so leave these. After selecting the mods for my mobile the preview looks as below.
Tip:You may want to select the same color in some cases then just copy paste the color code so everything looks even.
5.Now in the pop up tab select the mods you like,in this the most beautiful one is the overscroll glow so dont leave it and select other mods of your wish. For my mod thepreview is as under.
6.Dont go for the lockscreen mod as it is not for the htc lockscreen
7.Now in the window animations tab select the animations you want, there's also a video showing how the animations look like check it and select one.
8.Dont use the font mod instead use the FONT INSTALLER app from play store.
9.Now in the boot animation tab select mdpi and in "select place for boot animation" select /system/customize/resource/(Froyo default) .It's says froyo default but this is the one that works with explorer.
10.Now follow carefully for the file upload part :
For proceeding with this first you need to have the com.htc.resources.apk ,SystemUI.apk,framework-res.apk.
These files can be obtained by using one of the following methods:
1.Using Root explorer:
Go to /system/framework/ and select mount r/w and copy the framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk somewhere on your sd card.
Go to /system/app and select mount r/w and copy SystemUI to your sd card.
Now copy these files to your computer.
2.Using ADB:
type the following commands one by one in the adb window.
Code:
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb pull /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk
adb pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk
Your final screen should look like this with the required files:
11.Now after obtaining the required files using one of the methods above just upload them in the upload tab under "Select your rom from kitchen's list, or upload your own files" and selecting Upload System Files then in the select the options in each section as shown below :
After selecting everything and uploading the files move on to the summary tab
In this you should see everything in green on the left side ,if you see anything in red then it means that you have made an error in that section so go back where you made the error ,correct it and then submit work to kitchen.
12.Then you will get a message that your work has been submitted and you'll be given unique number for your pickup.Make a note of this number.Later go to the pickup page and wait till your file is ready to download. Then download it and flash through recovery.
If you've followed everything perfectly in the guide you wont get a single error.
13.After downloading the zip you need to rename the bootanimation.zip file in system>customize>resource to hTC_bootanimation.zip(the case is important) using any archiver otherwise the selected boot animation doesn't show up.
In case you're getting an error:
1.If you get a shft error i.e your mod is incorrect, follow the guide properly and check you've uploaded all the required files.
2.If you get a ( status 0) error in the recovery while flashing check that you've selected Type EMCC in the update binary in Upload tab.
3.If you got everything correct and flashed the theme but nothing has changed then go into recovery>mounts and storage>mount system and then flash the zip again.
Now the theme is applied and your device got some new garments to look at.
That's it for now ,Have a nice day.
Any doubts regarding this feel free to drop some comments.

[GUIDE] Changing status bar icons and more (framework-res.apk)

So friends, here is a quick and easy guide for changing the status bar icons of your Gingerbread(Actually any phone )
For those who don't know how to do it(for anyone actually :highfive
Theory
Android is the awesome platform which is easily configurable and is able of being edited very easily
The icons used in every app and Android framework are located as png images in apk of those respective apps in location:-
*.apk/res/drawable-mdpi (in my case, as our phone is mdpi)
So, we can change any icon of our status bar like battery, signal, (not clock[clock is to be configures in SystemUI.apk{will post how to change it shortly}]), etc by editing png's in framework-res.apk
Not even that, you can edit images of any app as I told you
There are several ways to decompile and compile apk in which we have made change
If we want full access of apk and want to change every thing like the xml's in it and smali content in jar files, then we would have to do it on computer by apktool or apkmanager
But, we are here to only change image, so we would not go in detail of apktool or apkmanager. For changing images, that can be very easily done even on the phone by an app NinjaMorph that is made for developers by our senior head and DEVELOPING LEGEND Stephen(Stericson)
But be careful as backing up the original file if you do something wrong
And as you all know any developer or even a newbie posting something interesting that you want to try WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for your mobile blowing up, resting in peace, sleeping like a dead, behaving like a non-living BRICK, or anything whatsoever that may or may not happen to phone in this universe or any other universe known or unknown
What to do if anything happened to my mobile
We have had a backup of your original file so we can restore it
But if while editing the system files like framework-res.apk
If you deleted some un-backed up apk's
Well you can always have backup of your ROM and that is why Koushik Datta has made clockworkmod Recovery
You can restore your ROM from there
Pre-Requisites
Patience
Mind
A Android (A spare one if you brick your phone, just kidding)
Root access(to change the apk)
NinjaMorph(http://bit.ly/ninjamorph)
Root Explorer(Optional)(http://bit.ly/stericson)
GUIDE
So Let's Start
Download NinjaMorph. Install it and give it root access. It will prompt for starting checks. Click on start checks.
Now you would have three options, namely, New Project, Finish Project, Existing Project
Click on new project. Go to system/framework/ and click on framework-res.apk. It will start extracting files
Once it has extracted all the files, it will open to show you what is inside framework-res.apk.
Exit it and go to your file explorer.
Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace/framework-resapk
This is what is inside apk. Go to res/drawable-mdpi folder
There you will see hundreds of icons of your menu, lockscreen, battery, signal, and everything
You can edit them and replace them as you want. But the name of the file you are replacing and size and dimension must be equal to the file you are replacing with(I recommend Googling and finding icons of battery, signal, and other things)[I have even used hdpi icons, there was no problem]
If you download a theme file which is to be flashed in recovery that is not for your phone, no problem, extract the zip and place its framework-res.apk in your sdcard and extract the apk with Ninjamorph. Replace your icons with its icons and TADA
After you have done replacing the icons and you are satisfied(I am never)
Go to NinjaMorph. Click on Fininsh Projects. Click on framework-resapk. It will recompile and ask to replace the original apk with modded one. Click OK
Then it will ask if you want to remove the completed project, Say No(As you would need it if something gets wrong)
Reboot your phone
Maximum chances are that your icons will be replaced. Rare cases have their status bar gone or no change, if so:-
Download(Buy) Root Explorer. Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace,
There you will see framework-res.apk. Copy it and go to /system/framework
Mount as R/W
Paste the apk. If it asks that file already exists, overwrite it.
SET PERMISSIONS
Long click on framework-res.apk and click on permissions
You will see three columns
Read Write Execute
You have to set them in the following way
x means you have to tick it
blank means uncheck
Read Write Execute
.....x........x.................
.....x...........................
.....x...........................
Click OK
You will see it as rw-r--r--
Reboot
Do it over again if nothing happens
Enjoy
This way you can edit not only framework-res.apk but any apk

Could you please give me the project file as i want to modify a little by removing the lockscreen watchface and replacing it with stock.
I don't really know how can i take an apk file and turn it into something i could modify which is why i am asking for a project file. I promise I will not distribute the modified file. Thanks
