Hi all,
Im brand new to Android and this forum so go steady....
I have an xperia M2 running 5.1.1 Lollipop and I successfully manged to root it. I then tried to install the CyanogenMod CM 12.1 using their official website.
Download here download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=nicki
Tutorial here wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_nicki
I cant post the actual links because im still a noob.....
My bootloader was already unlocked so I skipped the first step and went straight Installing CyanogenMod. After completing step 4 and restarting the phone the screen went black, I knew the phone was on because of the vibration when it turns on. I have since managed to flash a stock ftf file and wipe the phone which has put it back factory.
So my question is, what did I do wrong? Wrong file? Wrong input on Windows CMD?
The end goal was to install the Flux CM 12.1 Theme but obviously I didn't get that far, any help would be great, thanks.
I have locked bootloader so i don't know for sure
you need to update your bootloader via Emma or flash ftf that @linuxct have made than you can flash CM
Good Luck!

I'd already done that, i followed a guide on here that unlocked the bootloader then i followed another guide to root the phone. All that went perfect, its the above that gave me the problem.
it's not a nikki device (isn't the original m called nikki)it's called Eagle the m2 is and I don't think there is a official build for Eagle m2 there are unofficial builds available on here,Facebook and g+ Although my bootloader is still locked aswell I'd say your trying to flash the totally wrong software for your phone and should do some more Reading before you turn your m2 into a paperweight.

Ah of course, Eagle...that makes sense! Thanks....i'll do some more 'reading' :good:

Good day all I have a question regarding my new device which I attempted to root. I have searched these forums and can't find anyone with the same problem as mine. Running 4.4.4.
For reference, I was following this guide: http: //tinyurl.com/o6v3hqf
Everything was going swimmingly. I followed the steps in the guide exactly up to and including typing "fastboot reboot". Once I did this, my PC would no longer recognise the device that was plugged in. In addition, the Xperia M2 will not boot, the Sony logo will appear and then the screen will intermittently flash. I can boot it into recovery mode, just fine, but there is no file on my Xperia to boot from.
The next step in the guide says to install SuperSU from an SD card which I am confident I can achieve, but I am concerned that my PC won't be able to recognise my device if the root is successful (therefore I wouldn't be able to transfer over music etc).
Will my PC be able to recognise the device once the root is successful? Should there be additional steps I need to take?
Sorry if my questions seem Noob-ish this is my first smartphone.
Thank you for reading
.
Open the sim tray.
There will be a small hole. Jam a thin pen or a pin or paper click into it.
Wait a few seconds and make sure screen is off. Go into a dark room or somin. If it's not hold the pin in until it is.
Upon boot spam the down vol. as fast as you can.
It'll send you into CWM.
Then you should be able to follow into the rest.
Also using the UK and the International .ftf i was unable to root (i could but after it was bricked)
So i had to use the vietnam rom.
ALSO it was (here comes the hate m8)
You didn't read it properly and was partially your own fault. It clearly states it for 4.3.X running 18.0.A.1.30 – v01. By running a boot.img or kernel based on "completely wrong" generations you have bricked it your self.
I suggest you redo this but following this guide here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/help/tut-flashing-ftf-4-nbz-t2970145
Flash the vietnam .ftf also find out what model your phone is D2303 or D2305.
Wrong .ftf will waste a good 30mins of downloading and render your phone useless until further flashing a new rom or ftf.
Then flash the boot.img from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...2303-cwm-based-recovery-6-0-4-6-root-t2884503
The 2 posts explains it very well in the posts it selves. But don't be afraid to ask questions.
Hope I helped
Thank you for the advice. I agree I started following a guide without doing the necessary research. 100% my own fault. I will read the guide you posted and report back!
I can't find this Vietnam ftf anywhere.
My model is D2303. I have followed the above guide but flashed to Central Europe 4.4.2. I am still looking for a Vietnam .ftf file. I have found links for Malaysia and Russia, but no Vietnam yet.
I used the internal/journalists jb4.3 ftf top one in list on flashtool. Has the 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 updates waiting once booted up. I'm in UK and it works 4g n data just fine ,I Rooted 4.3 with towelroot apk (one çlick) then updated over the air twice each time checking root with root checker. Then force root with flashtool then installed SuperSU but don't update binarys in SuperSU till you have forced root and updated to 4.4.4 this was my first time ever rooting a phone too.
It helps to do your home work though i did two months reading up on here and the net it helped loads

Hi! I've decided that I'm going to upgrade my rooted Z3 (D6603) to Lollipop. I currently have a locked bootloader and I'm running Android 4.4.4 (23.0.A.2.93) which I rooted using Giefroot.
Now if I follow this tutorial, I can upgrade without unlocking. However, I'd prefer Stock Xperia at 5.1.1 (since its built for my specific hardware) over Generic. The problem is, there's no US T-Mobile 5.1.1 build for the D6603. The closest two builds are 5.1.1 Generic and 5.0.2 T-Mobile UK. I'm torn between these two options, as I can't seem to find any good list of pros/cons concerning Xperia vs. Generic and 5.0 vs. 5.1.
However, there is a third option I am considering. If I were to unlock my bootloader I could run CM12, which would be much better than both Stock Xperia and Generic IMO. The only issue with that is that I'm confused as to what I would end up loosing. I've backed up my DRM keys, but I don't know what good any of that is going to do for me. I've also seen that I may be able to restore functionality using this, but I'm worried I'd screw everything up, since I fully grasp what I'm doing. I also don't know if I could turn back and re-lock if anything were to go wrong.
So my question is: Which firmware do I flash? And what will I end up having to lose? My three options are as follows:
CyanogenMod 12 (After Unlocking the Bootloader)
Generic, Unbranded Android 5.1.1
Branded (T-Mobile UK) Android 5.0.2
There are NO differences between branded and un-branded Sony stock software. you can flash the "generic" variant (please be sure to match you phone model... d6603 and so on)
you can also update you phone with a flashable zip made of:
a stock sony FTF
Xzdr recovery
Supersu package
To do this you need: PRF creator ; Xperifirm (to download FTF's) ; Flashtool (to make FTF's) ; Xzdr Recovery Flashable package ; Supersu Package.
My experience with CM12 is terrible because you won't get any benefit over stock software, because stock is the most optimized / featured Rom for Z3. with CM12 be prepared to forget the "power on and play"
the "this" mod is a package to restore the features (the magic behind the DRM keys of stock roms only when you have lost your DRM keys. this mod cannot be used on non-Sony based software. DRM keys are lost forever if you do not backup them before bootloader unlock.
Just to verify before I go on with this: I won't need a unlocked bootloader, correct? All the links for Xzdr Recovery I can find state that they will brick a locked bootloader.
Hi xda developers, I'm a new z3 user (D6633) running lollipop 5.1.1 , and I want to root my z3 to use titanium Backup,
1) I'm afraid that if I root my z3, I won't be able to update to marshmallow when it arrives, I also read somewhere that I still can update but will lose drm (I don't know what that is )
2) is there a way to unroot, to install the official update ?
Please explain in details and provide links if you could, cus I'm totally new on Sony
Any advice is appreciated
Im sure there will be a pre-rooted stock ROM for dl as soon after M. hits. Depends if one need to flash other things as well like firmware etc. but these things are included in the same FTF. I have gone through a few Android versions and things usually works out fine in a short matter of time.
If you absolutely want to go full stock, just flash a stock FTF from http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061
Using Flashtool.
Hi,
I'have tried to manual update my D6603 Xperia Z3 to the latest firmware 23.1.A.1.232 (from 23.1.A.1.200) which is StageFright free.
I downloaded the FTF from XperiaFirm and than I flashed it using flashtool, no errors displayed. The phone now is in bootloop, stuck in boot animation.
My phone was unlocked and not rooted
Please, help

You didn't have to use flashtool. Use PC Companion. Sony's tool does the update for you.

Ok, I know, but my purpose was to change form Customized-ES to Custominzed-IT.
Once done that I would have downgraded my phone to Kitkat in order to root it.
Some minutes ago I managed to run 23.4.A.1.232 on my D6603 but I have some compatibility issues, preinstalled GAPPS don't run and the screen back illumination never turn off. I really don't know whats going on on that phone...
Now I'm using sony companion tool to repair the phone, if all goes right and I'm not going back to Customised-ES later I'll try to root it.
Basically all of this was a trial to understand if a was able to root it.

So earlier today, like an idiot, I flashed a z3 compact stock rom to my z3 d6603 using Flashtool. The bootloader is locked and I was planning on rooting, so I was downgrading the fw. The phone booted to a black screen and then a loud beep and then into bootloop.
Realizing my mistake I tried to use Flashtool with the stock roms for the z3. First I tried the D6603_23.0.A.2.93 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056. This was a little better as I got just past the sony screen before it began to beep and bootloop.
Finally, I used the latest stock fw I could locate taking the generic UK from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061. This one got me past the sony screen to the colorful wave loading screen before once again beeping violently at me and bootlooping.
I should mention the phone is straight out of the box with nothing added/enabled/done to it.
What can I do?

I used the latest stock branded rom for my phone downloaded using xperifirm. Using this guide http://techbeasts.com/2014/08/26/how-to-download-sony-xperia-official-firmware-and-create-ftf-file/ and the phone has life again. Will try to root later using fw from xperifirm.
