Thanks, going to cry now.. no more emulators with HDMI on TV :*( I will just find a software solution

Well, it might not have an HDMI out socket, but I believe the USB socket is certified for MHL 3.0:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z5-dual/specifications/
Obviously you need an MHL adapter and they usually (always?) require an external USB power source. But, given all that, you should be ok to push your display to a TV via HDMI.

Good response and you are correct. I may have misunderstood the inquiry. I thought the op was asking if the Z5 had a direct HDMI port like the Xperia Arc.

Oh no I was wondering if it was HDMI capable I will buy an MHL adapter. Thanks guys.

yeah, you need a MHL adapter like bonesy posted
Hey thanks guys... I thought its a simple way...lol..
Why didn't they make mini hdmi like the one in Sony Eric phones... ?
Btw... I don't understand the USB power port in mhl adapter. do we need to plug in our USB power adapter charger in that mhl adapter? Its a power source necessary for this mhl?
I bought an MHL adapter off ebay.
I have found that I need to plug in the charger to the cable but that might just be because I am using the HDMI through an auto switcher that doesn't have it's own power (gets the power from HDMI input). I haven't tried with the HDMI straight into the TV.
I watched a film over HDMI last night and the quality was really good even though it wasn't even a HD movie.
Just get the cheapest one you can find on ebay... they all use the same standard (MHL).

HD doesn't really mean **** if you know what you are doing.
It's all about using high bitrates, low-artifact, low noise, etc when encoding videos. I'd rather have a 25Mbps 720p than a 10MBps 1080p.

Just read this:
The power cable must be connected to the adapter while using it to send video and audio through HDMI. Power charger is not included in packaging. The MHL adapter features an USB Micro-B (female) power input. Connect the charger supplied with your mobile device to the MHL adapter to power your mobile device while it is in use.

I guess we have to connect a power adapter.. I think Sony Ericsson phones dont need this ****... i dont know why would they come out with adding annoying technology...
oN second thought, I believe it can also take power from a USB port. so If ur TV has a USB port then u can simply plugin the adapter with it to supply power and use HDMI cable to connect...

Correct!
Just tried with the side HDMI port on my TV which is next to the USB port and it worked.
Most TV's even cheap ones have a USB on them these days.
And yes... completely agree about the HD video comment. It was a very good DVD rip I had done with a decent bit rate.

HDMI cable

I noticed the S5 does not use standard HDMI cable...Is any available that will work with the phone?
This cable worked well for me - http://http://amzn.com/B00GE51T9Q
For some reason it received a bunch of negative ratings but I am satisfied with it. Its also super cheap but I'll warn you ahead of time, it takes weeks to receive since its coming from China.
Link doesnt work...?
Sorry about that. Try this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GE51T9Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
or just search Amazon for "niceeshop White 1080P Micro USB MHL To HDMI HDTV Adapter AV TV Video Cable For Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300/ S4 i9500/HTC"
Do you need any sort of app to get the s5 to mirror to a tv? I bought this cable but I cant get it to work...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DUCB65I/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1#customerReviews
Nvm got it working! Is there any way to change the resolution?
Resolution is automatically handled, no custom options. Your best control will be to choose the TV's display options and see which scales better.
Hdmi
I just bought a chromecast to get a workaround the hdmi cheap as chips these days
I didn't know that s5 needs a special hdmi cable.. I bought one that doesnt work.. Is there anyone i can do? What is the difference from the standard? Perhaps solder a cable or something?
Thanks,

You got a regular HDMI to HDMI? You need to purchase a micro USB to HDMI MHL adaptor. You will plug the adaptor into the phone and HDMI cable into the adaptor and television.

No. I got a microusb to hdmi adaptor but doesn't work.. When i connect s5 with tv, nothing happens.
I read above that s5 needs a special cable and not the regular (which i 99.9% have..)
So is there any way to make it work?
What special and different the cable that Samsung do?
Thanks,

Does it say it an MHL adaptor? I am looking at other forums and seeing people say that they are unable to get HDMI output to work with 4.4.4, what ROM are you using?

Yes it write mhl. Rom is 4.4 2 alliance rom.
Here is the cable:
http://www.e-shop.gr/startech-passive-micro-usb-to-hdmi-mhl-cable-3m-black-p-PER.813877
This is a photo of the cable:
Because it is a passive MHL cable, your display must be MHL enabled. The S5 is, so you need to look for your television model on this website
http://www.mhlconsortium.org/productlist/
If it isn't on the list, you need a different cable (or different TV which is much more expensive. )

Obviously no integrated mini-hdmi port on the device. Me thinks the bandwidth, complex data transport (video + sound) plus dcma characteristics of a modern hdmi interface can not be emulated via OTG (usb port). So I'll wager a semi-educated guess - NO.
Read somewhere the device supports miracast and/or chromecast but haven't dabbled with those directly.

I tried with a mhl cable, which is micro usb like the charging cable and must be connected via normal hdmi to tv and via usb to some sort of powersorce
Chromecast Mirroring works with fireOS 5.3.1. though the resolution is pretty bad.. mirroring is not working with the latest cm12.1 rom. Others reported it worked with an older build of cm12.1 but couldn't find out which built that was and where to get it.

it does not connect to a normal HDMI port, it must be an MHL compatible HDMI port on the back of the display. Usually the letters MHL will be above the specified port.

I have a Xperia Z5 and hdmi via hdml works fine with the same cable and port...
The MHL port has the same form as an HDMI port, but it isn't HDMI. HDMI is High-Definition Multimedia Interface, a standard connector included on most new TVs, which allows for uncompressed high-definition digital video and multi-channel audio via a single cable. MHL also allows for the same quality of video and audio input, and uses the same physical end-connector, but it's a different technology that uses five wires or pins to transmit high-def video and audio from a device to your TV while at the same time sending power back to the device.

As previously noted there is no evidence the 5th gen Fire will support MHL due to kernel (and possibly hardware/hardwire) restrictions. I would be shocked of Amazon baked in that capability. Hope I'm wrong ....

You can use TeamViewer app on your Fire tablet to mirror through PC and mobile. But no capturing audio in TeamViewer, it's only in tablet speaker. You want to using Bluetooth speaker.
Just to contribute, I tried a very cheap and simple looking microUSB to HDMI cable (probably not even MHL, no option to add a power source)
and I can't see any communication between the Fire 7 (5th generation) tablet and my non-smart TV.
Same results when I tried with AmazonOS, and with LineageOS 12.1 recently.
Maybe it would work if there was a way to provide more power to the cable?
However, this cheap cable does not give that option.
And connecting the microUSB part of the cable to the Fire tablet
means that I cannot charge it at the same time.
If I could figure out how to charge the tablet at the same time,
maybe the TV would receive a signal from the cable?
I also tried this cable with my android phone and again, nothing.
Maybe it's the cheap cable. Maybe it's not compatible with anything I own.
My non-smart TV does not seem to have internet capabilities either
but does have USB ports (I have a USB wifi antenna but I doubt the TV has the software to be able to do anything with it).

HDMI Display drivers for LG-H955?

Hi,
Some time ago I bought an OTG (Male microUSB, female USB) cable, and recently I have also found a USB to HDMI cable. Being the curious person I am, I bought it and connected the two. My TV saw the phone, however it says "No signal" which probably means I need some drivers. Does anyone know if such drivers exist and if so then where?
P.S I know - I should have bought a miracast adapter instead, and I will, but I want to know if I can get this working first.
Thanks,
Matt

Does an HDMI cable not work? Why?
Why would it work?
You can't just plug an USB output into hdmi and expect it to magically work. Standard is called MHL.
Sent from my LG-H950
LG uses the other standard named SlimPort that work without external power and is micro-usb to HDMI directly. MHL needs power from external source to output to HDMI and it does not work with our phones at all

That is absolutely true!!!
Well first of all - I don't know why it would work... I just did that to see if it would work and it didn't and so I went on here to see whether it's me doing something wrong or whether it's just not gonna happen. And secondly - thanks for telling me it's SlimPort, but now it's a bit too late. Next time make sure your information is accurate before you post it.
P.S Just posting this off of another account, I forgot the password to my chmodder one, and didn't have time to reset it.

Connect Xperia to TV using USB-C to HDMI cable? HDMI alt mode capable?

Does the XZ or the XZ Premium support HDMI alternative or alt mode through the USB-C port?
This is what I'm talking about :
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/9/1/12758384/usb-c-hdmi-alt-mode-cables-specifications
I think Sony dropped MHL support because of the google cast.
Not sure if usb C to HDMI works, but you can find out and let us know
Apparently the Snapdragon 835 natively supports Displayport alt mode.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWlkkM8SkDQ
I've bought this HUB with HDMI recently: https://www.amazon.de/Delivery-Auflösung-Ladefunktion-Macbook-ChromeBook/dp/B01BXOW3V0 but haven't got the HDMI Port to work so far, I'll try again later propably.

I've tried it again but it didn't work. The Device might not support Displayport over USB C at all or we just need to wait for an Software Update.
Check if your device supports Displayport alt mode.
Or you could try it with a Displayport alt mode capable USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter.

May I ask which USB-C to HDMI cable you tried to use on your Sony Xperia XZ Premium for direct audiovisual output to TV ?
Is your cable DisplayPort alt mode capable?

Is your cable DisplayPort alt mode capable just like this one? This cable here is marketed as DisplayPort alt mode capable and it's supposed to work with Samsung Galaxy S8 which also uses the Snapdragon 835 chipset. So theoretically it should also work with Sony Xperia XZ Premium out of the box.

[UPDATE]
I checked with HTC U11 and it works, so cable itself is good.
Unfortunately I can confirm that the Sony Xperia XZ Premium does not support Displayport alt mode at this moment in time. Perhaps Sony developers might add Displayport support in the near future though but don't hold your breath.
The hardware capability is there thanks to the incredible Snapdragon 835 but for some reason Sony decided to remove this feature through software or rather a lack thereof.
It's a shame really. Now I need to return this phone and buy a flagship smartphone from one of the competitors just to get this displayport functionality.
Hi, Oreo update has been just released for Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Any new info about USB-C to HDMI output compatibility? Can someone test it? Im thinking of buying this phone, but this is a must have feature for me. No luck with Google search.
Ditto-- any news since Oreo update?
Anyone try since the Oreo update? Results?
I just try to plug in the phone with a switch to usb C dock (capable to use with nintendo switch) but it still didn´t work for me, and nothing appears on the screen. The charging and usb are working correctly, so Oreo still haven´t HDMI support for our Phones
I connected the adapter I bought, and my phone did recognize my TV, but it didn't actually stream video to it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xz-premium/how-to/displayport-alt-mode-t3739553
just because a chipset supports something doesn't mean its physically connected, not even having the pins connected on the PCB will determine if it can support it, the hardware could be disabled in multiple locations and supporting chips may not even be present. yes it may well be software limited but don't hold your breath, since time began manufactures have be dropping functions from chipsets
Yes it's possible and feasible. Ignore that lame know-it-all naysayer and doubter above ^^

You might want to turn it into a crowd funded fundraiser though.
100 bucks is not much of an incentive for the talented and hard working developers. Keep in mind they do this in their spare time. We must support their hard work.

I have an app called Sentio desktop. It activates if an external display is connected, or a keyboard is connected. I didn't connect a keyboard at that time, so it must've detected an external display. I tried using OTG for plenty of other things. It doesn't make mistakes. Sentio only launched when I connected a keyboard, not external storage, or even a mouse. Only when I connected a 2 in one (mouse+keyboard) did Sentio launch.
And when I hooked my phone up to the TV with the HDMI cable.
Do you think that that piece of information could be useful in making a kernel mod to make it work?
