Advice HTC Sensation Battery - HTC Sensation

Hi, after restoring my phone to run CM12 again, I find that my battery is taking too long to charge and draining so fast. I have tried calibrating 3 times, installed greenify, cpu tuner (extreme saver) but it is still the same. In standby mode (when the screen is off and doing nothing) the battery is great and can last for many hours without losing a percent. However, when I'm using it drains so fast and the bottom part of the phone heats up (not the battery). Given this info, do you think it is best to replace the battery? Or is the problem the phone itself? Thank you.

[Q] For those who get 24+ hrs of battery usage

Battery drainage has been a major frustration for me with my phone. The frustration stems from the many variables associated with battery drainage. For the most part the terrible battery drainage started after flashing the modified ROMs. I believe the stock ROM was respectable when it came to battery drainage.
I am not ignorant to flashing ROMs. I have tried everything to figure out this battery problem; everything to keeping stock kernals, to battery calibration (delete battery stats), to battery bump charging, to matching radio files with RILs, to limiting data syncing, charge cycles etc.
But I am noticing that some of you are able to get good battery usage from a single charge with these modified ROMs. With that said, I want to cut the variables down and see what those folks who are getting over a day's worth of battery usage from a single charge are doing. The best indicator for battery usage to limit variables would be the battery usage standby rate with data network on.
I am not getting any better than 8%/hour on standby for any of these ROMs. That is crap. I wake up in the morning after 8 hours and there is only ~35% battery left. Unacceptable. I figure no more than 10% should be lost in 8 hours of standby.
So for those who have good battery usage, please answer the following questions so that we can eliminate all the variables.
1. What is your standby battery drainage rate?
2. What version phone do you have (TMoUS or EUR)?
3. Clockwork Recovery version?
4. What ROM are you using?
4. What Radio and RILs are you using?
5. How many charge cycles are you doing after the battery calibration and before you are getting the good standby rate?
6. Are you using any battery saving applications?
Please help if you can. Everyone seems to emphasize speed and performance but battery life is number one priority for any phone in my opinion.
Thanks
I'm currently running the P3D Neon ROM. I was having the same issues you are having due to flashing a new ROM jsut about every day. The big thing I noticed is that the longer I stayed with the one ROM the better my battery was. But as I'm sure you already know that no matter what a smartphone is a battery hog anyway.
By the way have you tried this, I am using it and love it !

I've had my phone a week and am using stock Rom. I've S-Off, Root and install backup. Overnite, the battery only goes down 5%
If I were u, I'd get Android Assistant from the Market and check that all apps are closed. Check ur start-up apps and clear ur cache before u shut down ur phone.

More than likely, there are apps that are not allowing the phone to sleep when the screen is off. CPUstats will show you how long your phone has been in deep sleep, as well as your CPU clock speed.
Here is what I would try out:
1-Get CPUstats.
2-Turn off the screen for the night
3-Check to see how long the phone was in deep sleep mode. It should have been for awhile if not, you have a rogue app that is bothering your phone while it sleeps.
To check your standby current:
So far, we cannot accurately see what it is. I dont know of any app that can for our phones. I do know that the values I see cannot be correct, otherwise my phone wouldnt be lasting long.
1-Write down your current battery capacity in mA/Hrs.
2-Write down the time that you put your phone into sleep.
3-Leave it off for an hour.
4-Wake it up and check the new battery capacity.
An Example:
I started with 1900mA/Hr.
I let it sleep for 1 hour.
I found that after an hour, I was down to 1850mA/Hr. That is 50mA gone, over 1 hour time. So my standby current was 50mA/Hrs.
Now this is only a crude way of judging whether or not your phone is behaving. Since the battery apps update capacity every 5 mins or so, you may not be right on the money, but you WILL know if something is BAD. Calculating 50mA +/- 20mA means the phone is likely sleeping as it should. Calculating 300mA+/- 20mA means something is USING your phone without your permission.
Youll need to find out if some apps are syncing (or trying to sync) while it sleeps. Or, your phone may be trying to improve your signal strength.

The anker battery will help but it is not solving the problem. We need to be getting around 1-2%/hour standby drain like some of you guys are getting.

Going nuts!! Battery...

Have to charge almost twice a day... I believe it happened after latest 1.45.531.1 update....
Disabled all animation, got auto adjust for display, disabled all what I could.. Still gives me 12 -16 hours on standby only....NOT even using the phone!!!!
Does anyone have something like that??? Or there is some remedy I skipped?
Sorry if I repeat someone's question.
Running full stock, HTC battery.
Thanks in advance!!
Tester.
PS. Recently exchanged the phone.... First one R.I.P......died completely, didn't even charge.
Is there a chance they swapped a refurbished one on me??? How to find out???
can you provide a screenshot of the battery usage graph? also, have you tried getting an aftermarket, bigger battery such as the anker?
I was the same way as you. I checked my battery graph, and standby was using something like 80% of the battery with almost everything turned off. By the time I got home from work I would need to charge it immediately. I bought one of the Anker batteries on Amazon for $15 bucks or so, and I'm now getting about 2 days for a charge. I don't know what it was with my battery, because it sounds like my experience wasn't typical, but I didn't really feel like going through HTC when I could just pay the $15.
I'm with ya...
This phone was running PERFECT prior to the HTC update. Now I'm having a plethora amount of problems, including the battery. For example, prior to the update I would get 13-16 hours on HEAVY usage... Moderate usage? Try a day or day in a half. Now take today for example, I unplugged my phone a little before 7am and I had 20 something percent 4 hours later.
I'm telling you, that HTC update really messed this phone up IMO.
Thanks, guys!!
Will try to get Anker battery, I believe it's 1900 mAh.
But again something running on the background with that update. We'll see.
I'll try to get the graph, maybe someone'll get some sense of it...
Much appreciated,
Tester.
here are the battery stats...
Display..........74%
Cell standby...13%
Phone idle......11%
Voice calls......2%
THAT'S IT!!! Nothing else is running...... SUX...
Still gives 12 - 16 hours of life on almost idle......
I hate to say it,but if you're battery's dying a lot faster after an update,a bigger battery won't help much.
I'd be getting in touch with HTC and ask them what the heck is going on.
Really annoyed with the battery performance. I checked and only display is using 90% of battery. Tried everything to reduce it but no change.

I've had the same issue since the update. My battery drains at a ridiculous rate. I've become really frustrated with the phone since. I rooted it and flashed a custom ROM in hopes of solving the problem but it's the same deal.
I've confirmed it's not the battery either since I've got another one I've tried and only get the same results. Even with Juice Defender running I get nowhere as great a battery life as I did before the update
I'm doing decent 8hrs 20,mins on batt. With 40% left mostly text and internet browsing

Try clicking the graph at the top of the screen it will give you another screen that shows awake/screen time etc. Is your phone going to sleep when you screen turns off?
I was having the same problem and realized that some app was keeping my phone awake even though the screen was off. I uninstalled 80% of the crap I had installed and now my phone sleeps like it should and battery lasts amazingly long time.

How can you tell if your phone is going to sleep when you lock the screen? What is a good method for this? And if I find it its not sleeping when it should, is there a way to find the culprit easily?

Click on the graph in battery stats, it should show awake time and screen on. If your awake time is constant when the screen on time isn't, then chances are you've got an bad app somewhere preventing the phone from sleeping
my battery life was plain **** on 2.3.3., device was running hot all the time (=waste of energy), charging took ridiculous 4h+! When I took it off at the charger around 23:00 the battery was dead at 14:00 the next day with most time being idle!
Since my update to 2.3.4 things got so much better. charging takes around 2h and battery finally lasted a whole day and had 40% juice left in the evening.
Since I got my 2 Ankers+charger for 20$, battery life is crazy now. Been on one charge for 2d2h and still had 16% left. Pushmail on, wifi on (cellular data only when not at home), brigthness at 100%, taking video, pictues and some navigation, messaging and phonecalls. Oh yeah and a few minutes of flashlight use
I would say between slight and medium use.
If 2.3.4 worsened your batterylife, contact HTC or your vendor.
I now replaced the battery at 16% with the other Anker because I still need to do my 5 charge cycles on that one to calibrate it.
Here's an example of the graph. At the bottom you can see awake and screen on time. I pulled phone of charger last night, did some browsing, then ran for an hour with music playing in the background (you can see the small green bar on awake even when screen is off). After I surfed a little and left it off the charger when I went to bed. The phone is properly sleeping when the screen is off and almost 16 hours and still have 62%.
Before I uninstalled the apps, the awake time was solid green across the screen.
Anker battery worked wonders on my device. Before I would have to throw it on the charger after lunch as I like to go for a beer after work and the stock battery would never make it that far... Now when I get home from the bar I still have ~30% battery. Anker battery FTW!
flash a custom rom and u will go gaga over ur battery life. definitely works for me. on standby overnight drain 0-1%.
I found out that if you don't have strong signal at your location your battery drains pretty fast that's why I always connect my phone to WiFi at my apartment where my phone looses signal sometimes. now I lose just 1-2% of power during a night.
Sorry to hear about your battery troubles. A couple days ago I rooted and switched to "Android Revolution HD 3.0.4" and my battery life seems pretty solid. I wasn't having battery life issues prior to this though.
I'm currently in the process of calibrating the battery:
- drain it mostly
- turn off
- plug it in overnight while still off
- in the morning unplug, wait 15 minutes, replug for a few hours; do this ONLY ONCE or you may damage the battery
- power on, immediately go to recovery, advanced, reset battery stats
- start normally
- drain battery until it shuts down; a continuous stress test or stability test app is probably ideal
- once it shuts off, turn it on again to double-check that it's dead; it should only come on for a second or two
- while off, plug in and allow to fully charge; no fooling around with plugging/unplugging, just normal
- calibration complete!
I think you can follow a similar procedure (minus clearing battery stats) to refresh the battery calibration even without rooting/custom recovery. I've read the effectiveness is similar. The phone just needs to be retaught what "full" and "empty" mean, all in one charge cycle. If you calibrate it wrong you could have issues with it shutting off while still reading ~15% battery life.
Anyway, as I said, I'm in the process of doing this. Currently I'm in the "drain it" phase... with my screen at maximum brightness (remaining on), overclocked to 1.5 ghz, I've been running "StabilityTest" (from market) for one hour and fifteen minutes. It stresses both cores as well as the RAM. At this time, my battery is at around 30-40% or so, and it's getting really hot! The phone's temperature is reading as 54.8 degrees!
Also, yesterday I used the GPS for about 4 hours before it died, this was prior to any calibration attempt. I think this is within typical battery life considering that the screen stays on.
TL;DR: Maybe you just need to try a custom rom or recalibrate your battery. Miscalibrated battery can be caused by flashing/updating a rom, I imagine even when it's an OTA. Sense is crippling your phone anyway, you might as well give it a try IMHO.
get yourself an anker battery..I havent charged my phone since the day before and now i have 20% left! heavy usage

[Q] Battery is dying multiple times a day, need help!

Hello everybody!
My HTC Sensation is acting kind of weird the last few weeks.
It all began when i flashed CM 9 on it. It worked great, but pressing both the volume button would cause it to crash, so i flashed CM10 (kang) to it.
Now what happened at CM9 already was that it would just turn itself off at some points. During browsing, or taking a picture, Or just sitting in my pocket.
I had a almost full battery at that time(about 70%+) and it just went dead, reboot would give me 1% left. In CM10 the same problem happens. This time i took screenshots of the battery management screen, i included them in the attachments.
I wiped battery stats even tough it is a myth but could always try it. Did not fixed this.
Now the funny thing is when i reboot the device and it says it has only 25% left of charge. It reboots and BAM i have 75%, Reboot it once more and i lost 10%, rebooted again and it kind of stabilized. Now i have it on the charger and i am watching it, the LED on top stays on orange for about 2 seconds, then turns to screen for 1 second and then it turns of. then it just cycles trough the same again.
I hope i am making myself a bit clear about this and i will answer all questions i might have left out that are important.
Please help me because i cannot trust this phone anymore, it dies without warning and i have to boot it to find myself stranded with 1% left (which ironically can last for hours if the phone doesn't die).
PS. I included 3 screenshots. The first 2 are from when it died 2 times, as you can see the dips.
The last one is when i rebooted it and it gained allot of percentage.
Thanks in advanced
Skippy
Have you checked to see it if you have any wake locks? You can check with better battery stats apk. Also might be time for a new battery. You can get a good extended battery like anker for under 20 dollars,. My stock battery life was so bad, changed it to extended battery now it's really made a difference!
Hi,
I recommend you to see if you have any wakeclocks (Check via BetterBatteryStats)
You might have a bad flash. Check MD5 of ROM/Kernel
Check your running applications.
Let your newly installed ROM settle down for a few battery cycles.
But in your case, maybe a new battery?
I moved before few days from stock ROM to Bruces CM10 from 14.11. and have battery problems too. It drains to fast ROM is pretty stable, but with this battery life, I can hardly use it... Now I am on battery only for 10h 26min, display was ON for only 1h 55min and I am on 17% with battery... Something is bad

I have same probleme. I move from stock Rom to 11.11Bruce CM10 then upgraded to 14.11 but my battery life now very bad. I could reach up to 30h battery without charging with stock. In addition to that, I realized that the battery level could be significantly different from one boot to another : Phone show 41%, I reboot then it show 57%...
Need help but can't report on bruce thread.

It´s the same for me too... Battery skips on different values after reboot... For example when I am charging and battery is on about 90%, I do reboot and after that phone is on 100% battery... Weird...

[Q] Battery Problem

hi,
Phone Model : HTC Sensation Z710e
Status : Unrooted
Since I upgrade (official upgrade) to ICS 4.0.3 my battery is having an unusual problem. Say if I charged the phone to 100% and keep it, the next morning the battery drains out to almost dead without any wi-fi,bluetooth,data connection.
I have tested some other things as well, after it is 100% charged, if i power off the phone, remove battery and put it back and power on the phone, it still drains like 4% of battery in that 1 minute. Sometimes it is more. I have checked the battery and it is in good health.
Could it be due to the OS or something? How do I fix it? Please suggest
Thanks
Charging might help

If your phone is not rooted then first drain your battery below 10% and then switch off the phone. Then charge it to 100% in the off state. Now disconnect the charger and turn on the phone. It will not bring a drastic change. So don't blame me if it doesn't work.
If you have any idea of rooting, then I would prefer clearing battery stats using clockwork mod.

Check running apps on settings - battery - (varies from versions of os settings - battery usage) From there you can see what apps eats the battery eg. Facebook eats 23% Android system eats 70% or whatever (example only dude ) Or just buy a new battery
I have done full drain and full recharged several times. I might try that clearing battery mod.
Secondly, I have already mentioned that my problem is not with battery.
Any other ideas would be appreciated

[Q] Moto G 4G (XT1039) Battery problem

So I've an app called: BatteryBot who tells you an estimate on how many hours you've left to fully drain the battery. In the past, I could easily reach a day with my battery, as the app said, even when I played some games. But suddenly the battery suddenly drains a lot faster and the app says I've like 16 hours left after a full charge. And when I use some apps and games, the battery will decrease faster. I had to reset my phone to increase the battery life again back to normal and it was alright for like 1/2 months till I had to reset my phone again because of the decreased battery life. This process keeps repeating and I'm sick of it now.
Does anyone know how to fix this without resetting the phone (as it takes a lot of time to set the settings of the phone and all the apps etc.). And does anyone know why my battery has a decreased battery life after a while, but after a reset it's back to normal and will increase again?
I would appreciate some help as this is driving me nuts.
Thanks !
Ps: My phone is not rooted and I'm running Android 4.4.4
