Hi,
If you know the link to the website where one can input the IMEI and get an output of the model number, that would be much appreciated.
Also, a command or software, to see which frequencies this device uses/supports would be good (as this can also confirm the model as 701 or 702 or 703 have different frequencies).
Thanks!

I know for a fact that If the Logo on the back says Honor then it's a 703L. The only way I know to tell the difference between the 701L and 702L is to look at the bands when you're buying it. Here are the differences between the 701L, 702L and 703L
Model: GEM-701L
GSM: band 2/3/5/8
UMTS: band 1/2/5/8
LTE-TDD: band 38/40
LTE-FDD: band 1/3/7/20
Wi-Fi: 2.4 GHz/5GHz
Model: GEM-702L
GSM: band 2/3/5/8
UMTS: band 1/2/5/8
TD-SCDMA: band 34/39
LTE-TDD: band 38/39/40/41
LTE-FDD: band 1/3/7/8/28
Wi-Fi: 2.4 GHz/5GHz
Model: GEM-703L
GSM: band 2/3/5/8
UMTS: band 1/2/5/8
TD-SCDMA: band 34/39
LTE-TDD: band 38/39/40/41
LTE-FDD: band 1/3/7
Wi-Fi: 2.4 GHz/5GHz
Thanks.
At the back of mine it says
(logo)
Huawei
GEM-702L
But any sys info software says 703L for model # and build #.
That's why the questions
re IMEI to derive model # from
as well as
re test software to read the frequencies from the hardware capabilities.
This would be conclusive.
Is there any other/better method?
confirm model # by hardware info:
dial *#*#2846579159#*#*
then look at
veneer info
s/h version
hardware version

It seems like you own a 702L.
The back cover cannot be used to determine the model #.
Only a frequency capability test would be conclusive.
It is already a bit of a matter of belief to go by hardware version (as it could be faked perhaps).
However, the model # and build # any sys info displays should also be consistent with the hardware info, and for my device that is not so, as written before.
So I wonder, if it displays in "about phone" emui 2.0 and android 4.3 as well as resolution 540 x 960,
while in HiSuite it shows different info: "emui 3.0" and android 5.0, how can that be?
Also, if I put my IMEI # into https://imeidata.net it comes up with 'prototype model'?!?!

I think you're having the 702L model as I"ve the same "About Phone" showing the wrong info like yours until I flashed the CUST.IMG from my stock 702L.
The "model" and "build" info in About Phone is changeable by the way so may not be a real indication.
From you description you're either a 702L or 701L owner because these 2 models still stay at EMUI 3.0/Android 5.0 whereas 703L already at EMU 3.1/Android 5.1.1
Thanks for the confirmation (and sorry for not having been around here for so long).
Can you tell where one could get the CUST.IMG from a stock 702L?
Also, is there a way to use the developer option 'upgrade via SD card' with this CUST.IMG or any other (cyanogen, etc)?
Where can one get the latest (EMU 3.1/Android 5.1.1 and later) clean cyanogen or better suitable system for 702L?
thx
You can use Huawei extractor software to extract the stock CUST.IMG from the stock 702L ROM file.
'Upgrade via SD' is meant to work with stock complete UPDATE.APP that is usually packaged in the stock ROM zip file, not custom IMGs.
There is another thread by "aj" on upgrading to 5.1.1 for the 702L - do refer to that guide which is quite comprehensive and detailed. If I read correctly it's now the latest B112 version of 5.1.1

Depending on your model of 702L, the cust for your phone is in the universal cust mod. It's the cust/hw/neeu, seas, or spcseas folder inside the cust (my 702L uses the spcseas folder.) Whatever model you have is which cust folder the phone uses.

Great advise, thanks kpcheang2!
Still need to find out, how to go from GEM-703LV100R001C001B005T01 to B112 / 5.1.1 - it seems to require an intermediate step, and am not sure where to get the right img from...any ideas?
Also, if this makes the 702 a 703, will that influence the frequencies?
Many thanks

Would GEM-703LV100R001C001B005T01 be a b005 on my 702L ?
Does the GEM-703L_EMUI3.1_Android5.1_V100R001C233B109.zip or the STOCK_B112_ROOTED_GAPPS.zip contain the universal cust mod?
It was not in "GEM-702L Cust Installer.zip" (8,087,371 b), or is it wrong to look for a file called cust.img?
For the gentle rooting as described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2/general/root-mediapad-honor-x2-supersu-kingroot-t3149326
where can one find the "super_boot.img"?
Some files were lost, so this needs to be rooted for recovery with minimal writes to the internal storage. Will try also sdk mount and partition snapshot if poss, any ideas?

You can refer to this guide from "ajsmsg78" for going up to B112.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2/development/rom-stock-b106-gapps-t3230585
Your "GEM-703LV100R001C001B005T01" - is this the ROM on your X2 ? If it is then yours is the 703L model which makes it easier to upgrade to B112/5.11 per "ajsmsg78" guide.
If yours was a 702L there is little impact to the LTE frequency based on my own experience, at least in the area where I used my X2.

From the "GEM-703LV100R001C001B005T01" stated in your post it seems you're having the 703L, not the 702L unless you've modified the model number earlier internally.

TO add on.....if you're having the 703L you need not worry about applying custom CUST.IMG - this is mainly for 702L users like me or other 701L users. The Huawei official ROM upgrades upon which "ajsmsg78" has modded and shared is based on the 703L ROMs published by Huawei.

Hi guys,
My phone is originally from Colombia. Since I was anxious to get on Lollipop I ended up flashing my phone with the B137 UPDATE_CUST.app, which now only allows me to flash the European firmware. I would like to get back to the Colombian version, but I'm unable to figure out, how? I have tried flashing a vendor.img with hw/nla, but it failed with Command not allowed. I took a look at the files that are included in the B137 UPDATE_CUST, in the hopes that I could create one for B120, which is the version I am currently on, but I have absolutely no idea how to go about it. I would really appreciate any advice and help I can get.
Thanks!
IDK how region works but I mine's from the Philippines and the version was B120SP04. I kept on upgrading and downgrading to and from B324 because of bugs.
I used B125SP02 from Romania and Italy, B120SP04 South East Asia, and will be using the B326 South Africa.
Flash B324 and flash B300 Transition Pack. After successful flashing of B300, flash B120.
Hope this answers your question.

You can find out what region yours is for by dialing *#*#2846579#*#* go to ProjectMenu, then Networking, then vendor and country info. Mine use to say hw/nla, which stands for North Latin America, but now it says hw/eu for Europe. This happened after flashing the B137 UPDATE_CUST.app, what I want now is to get it back to North Latin America, so that I can flash the B327 from Colombia.

where did you get the update_cust.app file from?
No need to change anthing, mine is also nla version, i've already upgrade to B522. I am on B511 first(tried several times cannot upgrade.to B522), then I downgrade to B324, and then use B522 full package upgrade directly.

I have a mexican telcel model MHA-L09C69B110, and throug huawei firmware finder, found OTA MHA-L09BC69B110, but due the fact that other two carriers AT&T and Movistar have Mexican versions, have a doubt to install it. How to be sure that it belongs to Telcel?
1. How to find Vendor Info
Go into dialer (only stock works)
Enter *#*#2846579#*#*
Go to 3. Network Information Query
Choose 4. Vendor Country Info
2. How to analyze ROM.
Go to FF site with your model
http://hwmt.ru/hwmtsite/firmware-database/?firmware_model=Mha-l09bc69&firmware_page=0
Choose filelist and notice what text written in vendorInfo.
In common case, there are three files:
update.zip
update_data_(full_)public.zip
update_(full_)[your vendorInfo].zip
Example: update_telcel_mx.zip
If 1 and 2 are same, so you can install this OTA

Yes. It is normal.
FF does not know path to ROM with your localization. Probably, Huawei flashed stock firmware in factory and did not post it on HiCloud.
All firmware are in Huawei's HiCould. FF scans some parameters and checks if update exists on exact link.
You can help if you will receive notification of next update and find link to it (you need find from what link phone will download update)

Even when I did extract the files with HuaweiUpdateExtractor appeared the file VERSION.mbn, opened with notepad, can be read MHA-L09C69B110, , and made the folder dload in external SDcard and paste the UPDATE.APP file, message told no valid version for this phone, etc.
So I desisted to update until be sure about. I had a doubt: does UPDATE.APP the only file to paste inside dload folder? Other files seem to have information so neccesary for update. But I understood that the only file to be paste does UPDATE.APP, so we need some help at this point

Most of ROMs are with tag online_update.
So, you can't install them via dload-method, sdcard-method and other offline methods. Only online, only via system update.
Using system update to MHA-L09BC69B110 give me a file bigger than 8 gb and fail

Your only option is to upgrade the current model to C432 or C636. Telcel,ATT & Movistar in Mexico will take a lot of time to bring an update to the Mate 9. You can flash the C636 for free and with this your device will have more updates by OTA or FullPackage. For the C432 you will need to pay an online method to do this but this will change your Mate 9 to Europe version.
I own currently an MHA-L09 from ATT-MX with C432 on it.

2) Is there any risk via FF to change from C605 to BC605 as is only OTA-MF?
3) Is this the correct way to change the CUSTID?

1. No. Huawei uses numbers in old ROMs. But in new ROMs you can select numbers or icons.
2. You can not change ROM via OTA-MF in this case. This type of ROM contains difference between previous version and current only. If you will flash it over other ROM (non-native) - ROM will not be flashed. I don't know what difference between cust D111 and D165.
Symbol 'B' in MHA-L29BC605 means beta or test.
Maybe, you can flash but ROM version is same B111, so very little chances to flash by OTA type.
If you're not planning to sell phone or not using special functional from your mobile operator, it is better to rebrand on world or china ROM. The most popular are C636 (Asia Pacific), C432 (Europe), C00 (China). But you will lost ability to return on your customization, cause there is no full version of your current ROM.

Where is your phone from? How you bought it?
Unfortunately, phones with extra customization are not updated often. I reviewed many stock ROMs, and ROMs with cust are hosted without FullOTA type even! So it is very hard to restore original state back.
Imho, if anyone wants buy Mate 9 and don't want problems with ROM or flashing process, he/she must buy phone with popular region.
I don't wander what Huawei included in addition to region when named cust. Maybe, it is special settings for domestic mobile operators, maybe some bloatware, maybe something else.
About existing OTAs.
Need to download them all and check what is inside. Changelogs are different, so it is chance that files are incremental. But I will travel for 2 weeks and without ability to get internet. Sorry.
I bought my phone to a guy who import them here in argentina. But i do not have any carrier branding in the ROM and i put my chip and it is not branded. Does my carrier affect in the time of the updates or no? As is not branded. I just reading reddit that the chip you put in the phone affects otas as mine c605 is destinated to colombia and mine is from argentina. Is really true that? In addition that since i bought the phone (1st May 2017) never received an OTA and still on october 2016 security patch.

Thanks for clarification. I was wondering why they changed C to BC for some firmwares.

Well man. Thnxs for all your info. I got the guts to rebrand this thing. Everything went OK in the first try. The only weird thing that make me crap my pants was that after the rebranding process (When i has finished intalling in the EMUI recovery) the phone start rebooting as crazy :crying: :crying: . It posted huawei logo, then black screen and start rebooting not allowing to enter either fastboot or ADB, after some time doing that the phone booted OK :victory: . Then flashed again the same model option and it was all a huge success :highfive:. Was the rebooting normal o not? Because in the guide that was translated to spanish that was a bit more accurate did not mention anything neither here. Any way, my phone is OK now i have the icons that was the thing that bothered me a lot and i am happy with that, THANKS TO EVERYONE :highfive::highfive:
Greeting, folks. Yesterday a got a brand new Mate 9 with a carrier in Colombia (South America). SInce I did some research I found that my current version (MHA-L09C25B16) is a custom ROM (I don't really know if the version is for the country or the carrier). I was wondering some things.
1. I searched on the web and used FF but could not find a ROM compatible with my current version
2. I'd like to know if there is some chance of updating without having to unlock the bootloader and install a ROM by flashing the device.
3. I need some guide on how to change my software to an European version so I can have the latest updates always.
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm.
1. I found only MHA-L09C25B106 OTA in FF. It is old version.
2. No chance. In case of rebranding you have to unlock bootloader, cause need change oeminfo.
3. There is guide but there is one problem also.
You have MHA-L09 that is one-sim model.
Oeminfo mha-l09c432 is not original, it was created from dual-sim model. Even if you're rebranded to this you will get gui elements of second sim.
Guide to rebrand: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Additional problem is that you can't back to C25 region. MHA-L09C25B106 is OTA rom, not Full-ota. It can't be installed over other regions.
P.s. it would be better to sell this model and get dual-sim L29 model. Even if you're not using second sim, you are able to use sdcard in second slot.
Well...I went a little deeper in my "search" and found something (I think).
Officially there's no C25 Software model... It´s a Custom ROM for the carrier Claro (CUST C25D005). A custom, I SUPPOSE, was created from C605 Official Software (which happens to be, Official Colombia Model...Other Mate 9 sold unlocked in Colombia are MHA-L09C605).
So...my guess is... Even if the version is the C25 custom...could I install a C605 ROM?
And...in case I could do it...how would I do it?
Thanks a lot 5[Strogino]

I never faced with this customization and never read that anyone did it.
There are some ROMs for L09C605, so you can go to this region, but imho you need L09C605 oeminfo.
Huawei uses localization model of ROMs. When flashing phone looks like generic model (M300). Then script finds metadata in oeminfo to generate product and vendor partitions. If metadata is not match, you will get wrong info in "About phone".
Maybe I can be wrong and in your case there is simple process of inherited region. But who knows? As I said, there is no way to return to stock state.

Well then. Whenever the OREO update is released for the C605 region I would definitely do it. Would you please indicate me how to change the OEM info file? And how do I update when I have the .zip file? Do not know much about these processes.
I was wondering too... Why some updates contain three zip files?

Main thread to rebrand is https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
To change oeminfo, you can place L09C605 oeminfo into directory for oeminfos
Or you can change bin file in TWRP backup and restore it.

2. Public.zip - additional apps
3. Hw/<region> - apps and customizations for specific region.
Hello friends,
I bought a Huawei M5 8.4 inch tablet with LTE in China (SHT-AL09C00), but I am fed up with using the Chinese ROM in the UK, it has very little Google integration and replaced many google services such as voice search with their own implementations that are of little use outside of China.
I have rebranded another Huawei device before and it involved getting an oeminfo file from device of the same model preloaded with oversea firmware. But after many months of waiting nobody has uploaded any usable oeminfo file for M5 8.4 LTE sold ouside of China.
After searching around, I combined the steps described in these two particular posts to rebrand my Chinese Huawei M5 8.4 LTE (SHT-AL09C00) to the the European Retail version (SHT-AL09C432):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...de-how-to-root-debrand-remove-retail-t3788326
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-10/how-to/successfully-rebranding-chinese-col-t3823782
Here is a summary of the steps:
1.Unlock your Bootloader (I did it with dc-unlocker)
2.Root the device by patching ramdisk using Magisk following the Root Guide in this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m5/how-to/root-root-guide-huawei-mediapad-m5-t3786157)
3.Get the Stock Firmware Files you want to use from FirmwareFinder and rename the files:
update_data_full_public.zip -> update_data_public.zip
update.zip -> update.zip
update_full_SHT-AL09_hw_eu.zip -> update_all_hw.zip
I downloaded C432B185 because I was on C00B185 before rebranding, I tried to match the versions but I don't know if this is important.
4.Copy them via MTP to your internal memory (the files should be in path /sdcard/)
5.Boot into fastboot mode and flash no check recovery from @Atarii / @mankindtw (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho.../recovery-bkl-nocheck-recovery-flash-t3778085)
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk_BKL-L04_nocheck.img
6.Make sure Magisk Manager is installed if you have not done so during the rooting step.
7.Download oeminfo binary file (this is not the oeminfo file but an executable to modify the oeminfo file) (https://mega.nz/#!X0AjASKS!KvXMfbtd8S3kPNZZO1Lm6bKHDyXGqXlBi0SDZdzJwfo) copy it to internal memory
8.Boot into Android System enable adb debbuging in developer settings.
10.adb shell
11.su
12.accept the prompt on your device to elevate the adb shell to root privilege (Good idea to back up your oeminfo file at this point, it is located at /dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name/oeminfo)
13.mkdir /data/local/tmp
14.mv /sdcard/oeminfo /data/local/tmp
15.cd /data/local/tmp
16.chmod +x oeminfo
17. ./oeminfo SHT-AL09 C432 hw/eu
18. mkdir /data/update/HWOTA
cd /sdcard/
19.mv *.zip /data/update/HWOTA
20.Paste recovery command:
echo "--update_package=/data/update/HWOTA/update.zip" > /cache/recovery/command
echo "--update_package=/data/update/HWOTA/update_data_public.zip" >> /cache/recovery/command
echo "--update_package=/data/update/HWOTA/update_all_hw.zip" >> /cache/recovery/command
exit
21.adb reboot recovery
22.The device was rebooted and an EMUI update screen was shown and updates were installed, I was able to boot into the system after that but it was not functional, I could see navigation keys and system shortcuts but not any desktop icons. At this point my the bootloader was still unlocked.
23.I flashed in TWRP for Huawei P10 as file transfer in TWRP for M5 is not working (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-emui-8-0-4-04-2018-t3773449) and used HuRUpdater 0.4 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279) to flash in the previously downloaded C432B185 firmware.
24.The device was able to boot into a perfectly rebranded C432B185 system and it received an OTA update to B186 and successfully updated.
For all the above steps I am wondering if I could skip the failed EMUI update but just ran HuRUpdater after changing the oeminfo.
This method should work to change region for any M5 as long as it is running OREO and I hope this report will help with rebranding your device.
If you rebrand a C00 to C432 LTE version how is the LTE Bands work? in EU we have little differens in LTE bands, example 800HMz, does the C00 device have that after rebranding??
Awesome. Do you get Widevine L1 on C432 now?

Huawei lists the following frequencies M5 LTE version use
GSM 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 1,900 MHz
WCDMA 800 / 850 / 900 / 1,900 / 2,100 MHz
FDD-LTE B1 (2,100 MHz) / B3 (1,800 MHz) / B4 (1,700 Mhz) / B5 (850 MHz) / B7 (2,600 MHz) / B8 (900 MHz) / B12 (700 Mhz) / B17 (700 Mhz) B18 (850 MHz) / B19 (800 MHz) / B20 (800 MHz) / B26 (850 MHz)
TDD-LTEB38 (2,600 MHz) / B39 (1,900 Mhz) / B40 (2,300 MHz) / B41 (2,500 MHz)
I am sure rebranding is not gonna change anything.

Unfortunately, I only got widevine l3 support. I tried relock the bootloader and factory reset and there is still only widevine l3 , I will be grateful if any one can explain how widevine l1 support can be achieved.

Hi, I am glad my report has helped you rebranding your M5, do you have widevine L1 support after rebranding? This will decide if you can watch Netflex in HD or not. Mine doesn't have it and I think the European retail version ought to have it.

Have you tried upgrading to Pie? On another device I had broken safety net + widevine l3 after some hacking. Nothing seemed to fix it until I upgraded to Pie.
You can use huawei firmware finder to download the firmware you need.

Just to chime in, I successfully used this procedure to rebrand my SHT-W09C567 to C432. I skipped step 5 and everything after step 17 and used HRupdater to flash the C432 version 8.0.0.196 (the same version I already had for C567) from Firmware Finder (using schwabe93's TWRP). After flashing, the tablet immediately prompted to update to EMUI 9 and today updated to EMUI 9.1... Only problem now is I don't have root because I can't figure out which firmware to download from Firmware Finder for the recovery_ramdisk image. I don't fully understand the LGRP terminology and there is no 9.1 firmware for SHT* when I search. Anyone?
The reason I used HRupdater is that I had successfully used it before for a previous upgrade and was more comfortable with it and the OP (bear_alex) said he ultimately had to use it anyway.
For those that are interested, Widevine is L1 with bootloader unlocked.
@rlw6534 I am in the same boat. Got the update yesterday but I cannot find any firmware package for 9.1 so root is lost
