I have a ZTE Grand X Max Plus with Cricket, running currently on 4.4.4. I rooted, put TWRP and flashed SU. Then I made some major errors. There's no official stock ROM available but thanks to Masterchief87 I was rescued (he posted his stock rom and it together with the lollipop update and the TWRP. I cannot describe how much thanks goes your way. You saved my phone). Now I'm on this stock and thought that just as Kingroot worked to root then, it would work now too but I was mistaken. I tried Kingroot about 20 times with different versions and none gave root. Can anyone please show me a way to root and move on?

Hello, someting really weird (for me) happened on my nexus 5. I was running stock 4.4.4 rooted with elementalx kernel, and i decided to return to stock and flash android lolipop. (I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701)
I firstly flashed 4.4.4 stock just to be sure there wont be any complication with the kernel change.
after that, i flashed lollipop according to the guide above.
after i locked the bootloader and opened the phone i saw something strange, an icon in the app drawer named ''SuperSU installer'' . it was a system app and i couldnt even uninstall it, but i could only disable it.
Also, in the past, i had used the ''simcardchanger.apk'' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/themes-apps/app-sim-changer-change-registered-sim-t2106490), to put my phone number in the ''about'' section of my phone because it was marked as ''unknown''. my phone number was still there after the flash of the new ROM (!)
How could these 2 survive the flash of 2 ROMS?
Is there anything i can do to return my phone to complete stock without even ''simcardchanger'' marking my phone number in the about section of the settings??
[PS: i am now running lollipop stock, unrooted and locked bootloader.]

You need to be reading/checking the Android Development thread. Read the OP's the the roms you're interested in. If they say they are pre-rooted, then all you have to do is use Odin to install a custom recovery first. Plan in advance, you'll need to have the rom you choose copied to your phone first. Then, in Odin un-check auto-reboot. When it finishes installing, unplug your phone, pull the battery. Reinstall battery and immediately go into recovery (Home, Volume UP, Power) and flash your rom. Again, I can't stress enough, "read" about the rom you're interested in. I can give you a couple of rom's that I know will work with OD3, but the decision is yours:
MOAR 6.2. This one has a strong user community for support, more features (and growing) then you know what to do with!
Stock De-odexed Very new, but if you want stock and rooted without any bells and whistles, this would be the one.
Hey can u help me again i downloaded the stock rom and wiped everything in recovery. Then i updated in recovery.everything loaded fine but it is telling me that it is.not rooted. Su say cant get binary and.root checker tells me.no root. I tried to reboot the.phone but its telling me.no root. I thought the.rom was rooted. Am i doing something wrong.thanks
Hello all, I am relatively new to the android rooting scene. I have looked into it before but always became discouraged by the amount of different informaton from different sources. I am a little bit familiar with flashing processes as I used to install CFW onto Sony PSP and PS3 devices. However there's a lot of new terms that I am soaking in and trying to figure out what it all means when it comes to phone rooting. I am currently using a Sprint Galaxy S5 Sport running Lollipop 5.0, with build number, "LRX21T.PVPU2BOH1" and Kernel "3.4.0-4445742 August 6, 2015". I've been looking around and every time I think I find a reliable source for rooting I see a disclaimer saying only works with certain build numbers, and mine doesn't seem to be any of the builds I have seen. A Google search of my build brings a total of 5 searches wit no information regarding it. Anyways I am looking to successfully root my device, install a working recovery mode, and if possible, install a ROM. I have searched through threads and scrounge up some information about the SM-G860P but not enough for me to go through with the process with 100% certainty of success. I also hope that this thread can be useful to other SM-G860P users and a one stop shop for all the files needed to safely root, backup, and restore files. Basically, I know it can be rooted using Odin and CFAR on Lollipop 5.0. But the steps after that I am unsure. Do I install TWRP, CRM, what ROMS can I install, what kernel do I need. Thanks in advance to any developers or members who can provide all the proper links to attain my goal.
I have a very similar build. I have successfully put on root, and CWM recovery, but, any attempts at custom roms have failed (assuming due to kernel), and I am unable to get tethering working, despite having root.
Followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/development/recovery-cwm-s5-sport-sm-g680p-t2907945 for recovery.
I rooted following something like: http://www.android.gs/root-sprint-galaxy-s5-on-android-5-0-lollipop-os/. The key was using the auto root, then flashing the update via CWM. Had to make sure CWM was installed, as flashing using stock recovery caused issues.
Tried to flash CM12 from:

But ended up in a boot loop.
I'm also scared to put xposed framework on, since most saying need to use a custom rom or else phone will bootloop.
Using most of the methods to tether, (like adb settings global or sqlite), tether_dun_required keeps resetting back to 1 after turning on tethering, so, I still haven't found a solution to that. I'd love to hear from anyone who's got tethering working on SM-G860P with lollipop.

Current situation is that I have a rooted M8 running mostly stock 4.4.4 ROM, but with a bunch of Xposed mods and a few system tweaks - it's dialed in just the way I want it, but the screen is separating so I've got my hands on another M8 running 4.4.2. I basically want to get the 4.4.2 M8 to the state of my 4.4.4 device. I've already made a complete backup ROM from the 4.4.4 phone and I want to restore that ROM to the 4.4.2 device. With the 4.4.2 device, I plan to:
S-Off (Try Firewater. May or may not work. If doesn't work, try Sunshine)
Install recovery - CWM or TWRP
Flash Super SU
Update firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52017763&postcount=2
Flash my complete backup ROM from my current device

firewater sever is taken down, even if you have an old version of it laying around it is useless.. you must pay for sunshine.
but other than that everything looks good.
you have your nandroid backup, on the new m8, s-off using sunshine, then update the firmware from 442 to 444, then flash custom recovery (TWRP is recommended), and then wipe and restore the nandroid and you should be good to go. :good:
(no need to flash supersu as the ROM you have backed up using nandroid is already rooted)
Many thanks! A couple of years ago when I did this I remember it being fairly straightforward. Do you personally find any real benefit in upgrading to one of the Lollipop ROMs this go 'round? Seems like it's more trouble than what you gain, though I may be uninformed of course..

I find many benefits to LP over KK personally.
If you like a stock ROM we have stock based LP ROMs, and firmware.zip you can flash and you are up an running a stock LP ROM within 10 minutes. Sure you need to set things up, but most can be backed up and if you take some screen shots of everything it's pretty easy to get everything set up to your liking.
If you want some customization there are ROMs like mine, that come mostly stock with some benefits like root, busybox, etc, and then offer you a MOD Pack.

There is the benefit of having all the security updates with the newest firmware.
We also have Marshmallow 6.0 ROMs out already that are rock solid.

You can also run some Sense 7 ROMs that are very stable, you can find one in my linked thread posted above, and in the Development area.
I personally would try things out, that's the great benefit of root/s-off/custom recovery/ROMs
You can always make a nandroid backup of your current ROM, and flash the older firmware to get right back where you left off.

Hello all! OK, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8013) that I'm still using and love, still running stock everything (Android 4.1.2, Build JZO54K.N8013UEUCMA3). Ideally, I'd like to upgrade to 4.4.2 and root it.
I checked the "Software Update" link on the device (in Settings), and sure enough, it says that I have I have an update downloaded...I'm thinking that it's an update to 4.4.2 that was pushed out to this device some time ago, but I'm not sure...I'm worried that it's some sort of "Samsung-software-only" update or something similarly useless that I may like less than what I have. So I have several questions:
1) Has anyone else experienced this before who can say what this update most likely is? If it's not 4.4.2, what is it?
2) I want to root this device, but from the different forums I've been reading, it appears that it's easier to root 4.1.2; rooting 4.4.2 seems to have met with mixed success, and that makes me nervous. But if I root, I won't be able to do the software update (and I don't want to deal with the custom 4.4.2 roms out there unless I have to, as the process seems very involved).
Does anyone have some insight or advice? Am I wrong about the difficulty involved in rooting stock 4.4.2? Thanks in advance for all your input!

I successfully rooted my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4) some time ago, and I love it...rooting gives me more finely-grained control over my device, particularly since a lot of apps ask for (in my opinion) rather intrusive permissions (e.g., why should a word-processing app want to know my location?). I have an app on my phone that monitors permissions requested and gives me the option to allow or deny access; I feel better having that and I just wanted to add that to my tablet.
If you're saying that 4.1.2 is the last release (that's what my tablet came with), then what is this software update the tablet is referring to? Also: I have noticed a few custom ROMs available for the 8013, but a lot of them are quite involved and require some unsettling jerry-rigging (e.g., after installation you must disable the phone portion of the ROM because it is added in by default, then you must install a Wi-Fi fix afterward that some users have reported does not always work, etc.)...so I'm worried about that option. But even if I find a custom 4.4.2 ROM that works great, would I be able to root after installing it?

I have SuperSU on my rooted phone: correct me if I'm wrong, but SuperSU only allows you to manage superuser access for your apps, right? I don't think that app itself can give you root. I'm thinking I'll have to use the second of two methods mentioned in this post, but there have been conflicting reports of whether this works on an N8013 running 4.4.2.
Oh, and for anyone else who might be researching this thread with similar questions in the future: I managed to reach someone in Samsung customer support (wow!): If you have the stock Android 4.1.2 on your Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013, the software update that the machine may say is available to you is an update to 4.2.2 and that is "the most recent update" (read: last one) provided for this model. You'll have to find a custom ROM to get it to 4.4.2...very disappointed in that!
