I'm having this problem lately, since I acquired my z5c I can't save files to my SD card, I only can save files to internal storage, when I download and everything I can still move them to my SD card manually but I would like to save them automatically to my SD card. Any solution for this? Thanks

Sorry I think I mistakenly created this thread in the wrong Sub-Forum,it was supposed to be in the xperia z5 compact troubleshooting forum. My apologies.
It was the same thing on my Z2 tablet, it's a general android security matter (since Kitkat).
You can see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...s/tutorial-ext-sd-card-write-fix-3rd-t3082857
Or search sd fix on the play store, these two methods needs root.
Without root, you need a custom recovery (twrp,...) and you can replace the file /system/etc/permissions with a modified one using adb or file manager.

Hi guys,
I just got the Z3 16GB and also brought a 64GB for my apps and files.
I am trying to move the big apps to my SD card but there does not seems to be any options.
How do I do this, sorry if this sound easy but I'm new to this type of stuff and would appreciate any advice.
Use the built in file manager. Not sure what it's called as I don't have a Z3 lol. But I know it has one.

can it move apps??
You can move data but not apps. That's why 32gb may be better.

You can try to root it, instal kk sd cars fix and then some app2sd app
You can not on stock firmware. Has been since 4.3

Root the phone. Then partition the SD card into two - FAT32 and ext2 (Search this forum on howto). Then you can install Link2Sd from play store and then you will be able to move apps from internal to SD card. I have done this in my Z1.
Remember the moment you root, you need to unlock the Boot Loader and the moment you do that you lose Camera Quality.

I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a 64GB SD card. I just purchased the tablet yesterday and rooted it using towelroot but that's all I've done. I put the SD card in and it's recognized and showing the correct available space. I'm able to create a file using ESFile explorer but I can't do anything with it. I tried a couple torrent clients to download files to the SD card and it keeps saying unable to write to folder or that it's write protected. When in file explorer I can create a file and under properties it does show it's able to be written to. I also have downloaded and tried the kitkat SD card fix app. I've gotten pretty frustrated with it so just did a complete factory reset and going to start from scratch. I was able to move apps to SD card using an app but that's all I could do. I'd really like to put any/all downloaded apps and files on the SD card since I only have a 16GB version.
Any ideas what I can do?

Well just an update after doing a factory reset everything seems to work now, of course i get to download everything again. I think it might have had something to do with the OTA update. After doing the factory reset it kept the update. Now I can freely move to and from the SD card so all is good.
FYI, since you are rooted I would suggest installing the Xposed Framework and then install the "HandleExternalStorage" module, the KitKat update cripples external SD card access so file managers, emulators, and the like can no longer write to the SD card. Installing this module re-enables external SD card read/write access for all applications, it is not the device. There is also an app on the Play Store call 'SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD' which accomplishes the same thing, however the Xposed module is much safer as it can be enabled and disabled at will. Simply install the module, enable it, and that's it.
Hey all,
Does the Z3 support installing every app fully to the SD card? I ask because 16gb seems a bit limiting if you can't fully use the SD card.
I just came here to ask the same question. In Kitkat 4.4.4 (and maybe other versions?) the 'Move to SD' is disabled/not there and it is up to the phone manufacturer to enable/add it. There is no option in settings on the Z3 to move app data to your SD card. It is very easy to enable apps to be able to use the SD card, either manually or using an app such as SDFix (but you will need to be rooted).
Here are some questions I would like answered if anyone knows:
There are folders on the SD card for most apps in /Android/data/ for example, 'com.microsoft.skydrive'. That same folder is also in the same place (/Android/data/) on the phones memory and contains data for the app. Can that just be moved with a file explorer to the SD card? If so are there any other steps to take?
Is there an app to automate moving data or a way to add the button in settings, apps?
Cheers
Wait till 5 ! It's was disabled is kk
You can use FolderMount to transfer game data to external storage (sdcard)
I use it and it is really essential to me
installed 4 big games
Hi. I try to explain this briefly and informative so you can help me out. I transferred a huge amount of files (video, music, pictures and apks) via zapya from my old xperia m dual to xperia m2 aqua. After moving files I just found out the files do not get automatically in Album, Movies and .... apps and just remains in Zapya and you can view them only there (So noone else faced such problem?!) But the main problem is, I just finded files and moved them with ES File Explorer File Manager, this is what happend >>>
I accidentally moved files to wrong section (storage/emulated/0) which I guess is systemic path. So the phone began to alerting me with love storage space and when I tried to move files to SD card (with same method i moved them to wrong path), It says the phone needs to be rooted for moving files. Now the files can not be deleted, copied, cut or modified as I guess the phone consider them as systemic files and phone internal storage became full.
I just don't want to root this new phone (at least now, or even root and unroot again), so please help me what to do without rooting (I consider root/unroot as my last hope).
What is the version of android you use ?
If I remember correctly in Android 4.4 KitKat without root you can copy, move files as follows:
Internal memory -> external sd card.
External sd card <-> cloud storage.
You can only copy, move in this direction, but not back:
Internal memory -> external sd card.
Cloud storage -> external sd card.
Also you can't rename or delete folders on external sd card.
You can fix this inconvenience only if you're rooted.
You need to add add <group gid="media_rw" /> in file /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml .
Root
I am concluding that only rooting can make it possible, but waiting for more responses maybe something happen! Now looking for a safe half root method.
Try with File Commander that came with phone as preinstalled system app. You can't use ES File Explorer to edit files on external SD card as KK restriction because it's user application, only system apps can do that.
@AleksJ
Sorry man, but you are so wrong, you can edit external SD card content only with system (non-user) apps and that's KK restriction. So I got this File Commander app preinstalled and I had used it until I rooted my phone. Now Solid Explorer is the best...
Go to Settings/Memory (I think). There is an option to move images/video/music files and maybe other content from/to the internal memory and the SD Card. It also has an option to wipe the cache files (not the directory /cache which is another thing).
Hello to everyone.
2 days ago I received via OTA samsung software update, everything goes well and the update installed succesfully. But yesterday I realized that I was unable to write data on the MicroSD card, my first finding was the camera, the storage switch to memory device when I took a picture, and when I tried to record a video, an error appears and the camera app close.
I tried to create a folder with the file manager but it's not possible, I can't create, edit or delete anything on the SD card, only read. I already tried to unmount and re-mount but not worked for me, also I executed a formating process but the problem still.
The SD Card on the PC works just fine.
Any suggestions to follow?
Thanks in advanced!
Best regards!
Hi. Try to copy all from a sd card to pc and do format in the phone. If the phone will see the card next copy all to sd card. Maybe it help.

bump an old thread, i'm confronting this problem, has a solution been found so far?
i did various searches and found the following links:
ExtSD Fix - a note in there says is Marshmallow is not supported yet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/fix-extsd-fix-v1-0b-2016-01-18-t3296266
a web showing platform.xml fixes for 4.4 (K), however, it seem this same fix wouldn't fix S7 with MM
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.sg/2015/01/how-to-unlock-external-sd-card-writing.html
i tried searching for WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE apparently the string is not even found in platform.xml on S7 with MM
other threads from s7 edge highlighting a similar problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/phone-write-to-external-memory-t3385764
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/write-to-sd-card-t3328704
this workaround for titanium backup works and it is good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/external-sd-card-write-permission-t3341613
but it seemed most of other apps / file explorers with READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permissions still can't write to the external SD card
note that the stock 'My files' explorer can write / create folders in the SD card, but if u try a 3rd party app / explorer, nothing gets created on the SD card. This shows that it is a permission problem, perhaps "My files" has system permissions and not simply READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. But that would be 'overwhelming' for a file explorer app to get full unlimited permissions to all resources just to write files / create folders on the external sd card
has anyone successfully made external SD card writable by (older) 3rd party apps simply editing/adding entries in platform.xml?
i tried it didn't seem successful. note that since 4.4 (K) i'd think most apps / explorers has requested READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. the trouble is that with S7 MM and the recent update. it seemed even READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is not adequate to write / edit files on the external SD card, e.g. not possible to create a new folder on the external SD card
