Post Lollipop OTA upgrade, IMEI numbers are erased or invalid - Micromax A106 Unite 2

Hi,
I am new to XDA and this is my first request for help.
I have MMX Unite 2 (8 GB Model, unrooted) with Kitkat stock OS.
Couple of days ago, I attempted increasing the apps partition using some of the links in XDA.
I could increase the apps memory to ~2.3 GB and internal SD to ~3.5 GB.
I was getting notification about Software Update(upgrade to Lollipop version).
I chose to do the OTA upgrade. Unfortunately I didnt take any backup!!
After the upgrade process, I ran into 2 critical issues.
I restarted the phone and it is unable to detect any SIM. Hence I am unable to make or get calls.
After some checks, I found out that both the IMEI numbers are erased!
I searched and found that MTK Droid tool or Maui Meta 3G tools need to be used.
However they seem to suggest that the phone needs to be rooted. But my phone is not rooted nor does it have custom Recovery.
Can anyone help me in restoring IMEI numbers? I have written down the numbers (printed on the back of the phone).
Thanks and regards,
Srinivasa Pradeep

While using MAUI Meta 3g, I think root access isn't necessary. Take a look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/unite-2/general/guide-repair-imei-invalid-micromax-t3048984

I actually went through the link earlier.
With my Lollipop version, the MAUI Meta 3G is unable to establish connection. I get the following error after few minutes.
Error:"[ 36] BootROM start command passed, but target has no response until timeout, please press [Reconnect]
button to connect with target"
From the MAUI tool log, I can see that it was indeed able to handshake and send initial data.
Is there an issue with the drivers?
I am confused and need some help or pointers to proceed further.
Actually I checked if the tool indeed worked and I tested with Xolo Q1010i (running on Stock Kitkat 4.4.x).
I could succeed and connect and the indicator turned yellow.
I also made an attempt to flash the nvram.bin specified in the link using sp flashtool.
However this was also of little help.
I am thinking if there is a new version of the tool for lollipop version of the device??

Downgrade to Kitkat and write imei's. Then try upgrading with sp flash tool. Don't know whether there is a new version or not. I was planning for a new video guide for maui tool. My lappie is in service. Will try something as soon as i get it. And one more thing, did u tried using nvram files from lolipop stock rom in maui? What was the result?

I was able to change finally by following the steps below:
1. I tried the same solution of downgrading to Kitkat and writing IMEIs. I didnt try using nvram from lollipop stock rom as the Lollipop version seemed to be very buggy. It didnt allow apps to access sdcard. It messed up with my custom ebr2 (It provided only 6 MB for internal storage !!)
I followed the video link provided by you in this post to downgrade to KitKat.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/unite-2/help/plz-help-how-to-downgrade-to-kitkat-t3208294
2. After Kitkat downgrade the IMEIs continued to be invalid as was expected.
The Maui Meta 3g(V 6.1316) as well as SN Writer(2.1504) were able to detect the phone and connect using META.
However the baseband version was set to unknown. I set the Modem DB and AP DB to the ones that came with Stock Kitkat ROM as in step 1. I was however unable to write the IMEIs succcessfully through both the tools. They were giving timeout errors.
3. Later I tried quite a few posts as well as youtube links but of little help.
Finally I came across a youtube video by Mohammad Sajid(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WlS0XuH14E)
for Micromax Canvas A116. The same steps of Formatting (with Manual Flash) and downloading the Kitkat stock ROM (as in step 1).
With this I rebooted the phone and it came with wrong IMEI as well as WIFI Mac address.
I then used SN Writer and used the DB that came with stock Kitkat Rom as in step 1 to write IMEIs as well as WIFI Mac address.
Voila!! This time it was successful. I am now happy.
Later I repartitioned the apps memory to have ~2.3GB and internal SD of ~3.7 GB.
Thanks,

I am not sure what you meant by nvram warning.
Once I downloaded the stock ROM after formatting, my wifi and IMEI were all junk.
If i remember correctly, it gave nvram 10 as one of the networks when I tried to turn on wifi
After I used Maui Meta 3G tool to update IMEIs and WIFI MAC address, it is working fine.

Once bitten twice shy.
I had taken the backup of the wifi address before I formatted and downloaded the stock Kitkat rom to the phone.

Imei problem

Dear friends
I used lg updater but after that I lost the signal
When I checked *#06# it didn't show me the imei
When I go to about imei it show 0
I searched the problem on 3d I didn't found any one have this problem
But I found some 2x have it and they solve it by baseband flashing
So did any one have the same problem before and how dix you solve it ?
Thank you all

any one can help me please
very similiar problem, imei empty, id not found.
is not detecting the sim card
and the only way to switch it up is with charger of the wall conected imposible to do with the usb
You should see the IMEI under Settings -> About Phone -> Status
Att flashed kz with lg update
I am having the same issues as you guys.. I flashed the KZ file with lg update software as explained in the XDA thread but I could not get the process to work right. My phone kept disconnecting at 28% and it would not turn on no matter what I did. It would only make a short vibrate as if it was turning on, and the computer would notice it but only for a short time. And never once did a light on the screen, or LG logo, or anything at all ever appear.
I figured I had really screwed it up, but when I plugged it into the wall it booted up perfectly. All my data was in tact and the rom i had flashed through cwm was still there, not the kdz file that I flashed with the lg software.. I noticed that my sim card did not come up as being in the phone at all. I looked in system setting status and noticed that all info related to my imei said unknown. I opened up the mfg app (277634#*# from the phone app).. Under "version info" then "factory version" my phone now says xmm6260.. It always used to say p925..etc... Even after flashing the zip to debrand from at&t this never changed from p925 even when every other aspect of my phone has.. I was hoping maybe once I put in an activated sim card everything would be fine and my phone would be unlocked which is why i flashed through lg software.. But seeing as how other people are having this similar issue and their phones not seeing the sim card, well im looking for some advice.. Should I try and re flash kdz file through lg software again? if i do, im going to do it on my XP computer this time, not Windows 7..
Just wanted to add that I did try wiping data and cache from cm and no dice.. Root and CMW work fine but no matter what I do, if my phone is turned off, i cannot boot up or boot to cwm or boot at all unless i plug the phone into a wall carger and then once its on it stays on and i can unlug.. SORRY ABOUT THE LONG POST, THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP..
Hello, I am having the same problemws as you.. Have you found anything out yet? I'm trying to get some answers.. Did you try re flashing kdz with lg update?

Hi guys
I'm getting exactly the same thing aswell!! I wonder what the problem could be? I can boot the phone up if I plug it into the wall charger, but have no signal at all.
Anybody got a solution, please?

try this with the correct cable.
No IMEI/GSM Radio
Im having same problem, has anyone found a solution?
Im attaching some screen shots of the errors I get.
Thanks
imei missing
Is there any soltion? Please.
Reflash the phone.
Take out battery. hold down the up key, plug in cable to computer.
Wait till it installs or activates the necessary drivers. eg usb protocol etc.
Then run the recovery via lg tool by entering your imei number in the application.
This will install the latest stock version based on your imei (including baseband)

Thanks, I tried but it did not work.
I tried everything possible. KDZ flashed about 20 times. Flashed bin and fls files many times. I do not know what more to try. When I put androuid 2.2 After a while the cell phone turned on appears IMEI and IMESV, but disappeared again after reboot.
I put the phone in the CP - USB (3845#*920# port settings cp-usb) mode and I connect with hyper terminal when I type AT%IMEI my modem gives me IMEI. When I type AT%IMEI=? back to me is: [IMEI part1 [7] + IMEI part2 [8]] but I do not know how to write it. I tried all possible combinations and I still write IMEI write error. (AT%IMEI=xxxxxxxx + xxxxxxx AT%IMEI= x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, ......) I found [LGFlash Tool 1.0]LGP920_20120213_Download_WriteIMEI.dll at the CSMG server and I tried with LG flash tool so that instead of stock dll I put this dll but it failed. It gives me an error not read IMEI. There may be a BIN file that is used whit it??? Here's the dll if anyone wants to try.
All this hapend after simple reboot. I found service manual for LG internal use it says that this could happen becouse of fault in firmware, and that after write IMEI firmware should be updated to V21A to prevent this to happen. So some early firmware cause it.
I dont have warranty.
sorry for bad english.
Interesting.
When you run the official recovery tool and it asks you to enter your Imei, does it go ahead with the process and fully complete 100% with the flashing?
Do the problems then still occur? If you can get your phone to turn on at anytime, have you tried a full factory reset after that?

Yes it completes at 100% everything is ok I can turn it on, off, go into recovery and everything. Device is working perfect but android cant see IMEI, that is writen in eeprom. I tried factory reset numeros times, no help. When i start lgupdate official tool, tool also reads correct IMEI from device.
Seems an issue with the baseband updating/corrupted, although the lg tool flash recovery should have updated this as well. Have you tried the other flash methods (try one of the kdz roms in this forum. eg v21a for europe gingerbread) and use this flashing method (you would need to block the lg updater from accessing the net) There is a tutorial on this in this forum. it works via forcing a rom update and redirecting it into the lg flash program

I did that metod too. There is any metod here on this forum that I didnt try. Thanks for help. I dont know is it baseband or CP chip problem.
This may be guesswork, but if the baseband is flashed in a specific area of the phones nand space, perhaps the nand blocks there are corrupt which causes it to fail. Perhaps with some additional tools, it may be possible to format this area, marking the bad blocks as bad preventing the baseband data from writing to these area's. Just guesswork here.
Have you tried flashing other baseband versions seperately

[Q] Telsda T9555 china

Hi All/experts,
I bought this phone 2 months back after lot of rooting efforts finally was able to root it. However I think unknowingly I deleted some apps from /system/app while trying to cleanup unwanted applications. Now my phone does not show any cell connection(its a dual sim phone) does not even show the SIM signal bars on the top right corner. when I look at the phone information about baseband it reports "unknown". I tried using various phone.apk but non of them worked and I would like to know how I can solve this issue and make my phone alive. My phone boots properly , all other installed apps work, I get a wifi connection and can use Google Play.
Can someone help me by providing the rom dump for this phone or a APK dump for this phone? The phone shows that its running 4.0.4 however its a 2.3.6 base I believe.
Ok to even flash a custom rom as long as its sure to work
Again the model is Telsda T9555 and it has a mediatek MTK6515 processor with 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM.
Thanks

Hello,I found your post about rooting Telsda phone. I would like to ask You, how did You done it? I have Telsda T8520 bought in PRC last week, I'm trying to install Google Play subsystem, but to be honest I don't know how... Can You help me? Simply installing google play apk doesn't help. Phone seems to be rooted, but some things are still in chinese, not english, so I'm not quite sure. Explaining your rooting and google installing procedure might help me. Thanks in advance.

to root the phone its simple, extract the boot image using mtkdroidtools and then decompile the image file. edit I think the build.prop and set ro.secure = 0 and ro.debugging =1 (I am no expert but this is what I did). repack the boot image and flash it back to the phone. Then use unlockroot and thats it you get your phone rooted.
However since your phone is rooted as you say, installing google play needs installing the below apk
1. GoogleServicesFramework-signed
2. OneTimeInitializer-signed
3. SetupWizard-signed
4. com.android.vending-3.1.3-signed
I have attached the zip here in case you want to give it a try. This worked for me, I dont guarantee it will work for you !!!
if I helped you ... can you provide me a full rom dump of your phone , I will try to flash it and since its the same manufacturer I hope it will work Right now I got my phone back from completly bricked by keeping the boot image and then flashing a system image from different phone. So my works for calls ,sms, gprs ...etc but fails on wifi and bluetooth.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK , I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GOES BAD

thanks, but what driver for windows have you used? my mtkdroidstools still shows the device isnt revealed. I've tried lot of different drivers (even generic), without success so far.
your problem could be driver installation.... get usbdview and run it as admin. delete all mediatek related entries, reconnect the phone for flashing and then let the system do the installation of the drivers again. This is a very common issue with mediatek preloader Vcom drivers atleast as per my experience but I dont know if others too have faced this. when I have a problem I use the above porcess to make it work again.

I dont understand what you are trying to do . If you are trying to flash the phone then you need to run sp flash tools, remove the phone battery.. start the download or the readback in sp flash tool .. put the battery back into the phone and connect the phone to your computer. This way your Vcom drivers should get installed.
Again before doing all this its advisable to do delete the existing drivers on your PC using USBDview
There is a tutorial on how to use SP flash tools check it on the internet. As a suggestion to avoid any risk of messing your phone just do a readback instead of a download.
Goodluck !!! your phone , your risk if something above fails (-:

[Q] Lenovo A820 touch calibration messed up

Hello,
I was trying to port Android 4.2.2 from A83o to A820, which has 4.1.2.
While flashing the files through FlashTool the electricity was cut off. I'm not quite sure which image have been processed the moment of power loss.
when the electricity was back on, I reflashed the stock ROM via FlashTools. Phone turns on and boots into OS, but touchscreen is completely messed up - Top part is bottom now (sligtly misaligned though) and left parts are corresponding to right touch points.
So e.g if I want to tap on the bottom of the screen, I need to touch the display somewhere in the middle of the top half.
It's awful to navigate, but managed to do a factory reset. Not that helped with anything.
I've tried all official versions + my modded roms + restore from recovery. Everything works except touchscreen.
Is there a way to bring back calibration data? Factory menu (volume up + power) is in chinese, but also responds to up and down keys only and I can't select any item with power button.
I can tell people how to dump any block with FlashTool ReadBack option (will give them instructions and so on), but would it be of any help?
PS: Oh, IMEI is not there either, so it seems everything got erased somehow. Not sure where calibration data is stored, but I guess it's on a separate nand flash.
If I flash nvram block frm other A820, will it fix the problem?
I pulled nvram folder with adb and there is /md/NVRAM/CALIBRAT folder inside with many files.
Do I need to replace all of them in order to get it working?
If I get the touchscreen working, then I will fix IMEI and WIFI mac address.
Doesn't help at all. Hardware problem due to power shutdown during the flashing process?
Same problem

No, I've ordered a new touchscreen, but they sent me the wrong one, so now I'll be waiting another 2 weeks for the correct one

Haven't received my touchscreen yet. It's taking so long...
Still nothing in the BG Post tracking system, which means it has not arrived in Bulgaria yet.
I will report if that fixes the problem as soon as I change it.
I've ordered it from aliexpress, but can't recommend a seller, since I haven't got anything yet, except a wrong touchscreen once, that I had to return and after that they sent me a new one (at least that's what they say). If you decide to order one, make the seller measure it first, so you're sure it fits.
Ok, got another wrong touchscreen from a different seller. And I asked them to measure it first.
They said it's the same, but I'm sure they didn't measure it.
It's one month and a half since I'm not able to use my phone, because of the Chinese sellers.
Now really don't know where I can get a correct one.
There's one seller that seems to sell the one I need, but who knows...
Issue solved, here's how:
This guide applies to A820 only, for A820T you need the first firmware, flashtools and drivers - nothing else.
You also don't need to replace anything, just flash the special A820T firmware and you should be ready to go.
What you need:
1. Special A820T firmware, taken from lenovohome Chinese forum: http://d-h.st/HdW – I have uploaded it in my dev-host folder and removed password protection.
2. Any official A820 firmware, I have used S139 from needrom site: http://www.needrom.com/mobile/lenovo-a820-11/
3. FlashTools - the version included in A820T firmware
4. Ofcourse you need MTK drivers, but if you have flashed the wrong firmware first, then you should have them installed.
- Extract all archives into separate folders
- Load A820T scatter file in FlashTools, turn off the phone and leave battery in. Remove all SIM and external SD cards just for safety.
Now click on preloader (not on the checkbox, but on the name inside FlashTools) and a prompt will pop up.
Select the preloader from A820_S139 firmware (or from the version you chose on step 2). This step is necessary, because phone doesn't start with preloader from A820T.
Alternatively you can replace the preloader inside the A820T firmware folder.
Then hit Firmware->Upgrade and connect the phone to PC.
- After you see the green circle, try to power up the phone. I have tried it on two A820 phones. One of them booted into OS, the other one was stuck at Lenovo logo, but both worked after next step.
- Now turn off the phone again, load scatter file from A820_S139 (or from the version you chose on step 2) and flash the full firmware with Firmware->Upgrade. After that touchscreen should work normally.
Thanks to lenovohome Chinese forums and Russian lenovo-forums.ru. This wouldn't be possible without them.
Note: As I understood from other users, replacing the touchscreen also fixes the problem, so it seems the original assumption that something happens with the controller/drivers is correct.
However I can't explain why and what exactly goes wrong.

No, it just repairs the touchscreen problem. If you flash A820 rom, same will happen.
A820, A820T and A830 firmwares are incompatible. Well, not sure about A820T <-> A830, but both are incompatible with A820.
hello again, now I'm setting the phone and have two sims installed, I have de miui a820t installed with morelocale2, all it's ok but the first sim didn't works cause invalid imei apeears, what can I do to repair it ?

Have you accidentally formatted the nand flash?
Flashing this firmware should not cause such issues. Tried on 2 A820 and everything is fine.
Search for guides for restoring IMEI numbers, there are plenty of these.
I have tried the replace of MP0B_001 file but again the invalid imei message appears, how can I restore on this model ??

Use the method from post #5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197378
There are some other methods which are permanent, but you can try this first, should work fine if your phone is rooted.
You can get your first IMEI from the sticker in battery compartment, but I don't know how to determine second IMEI without backup. Do you have one?
Hello again, I have write IMEIS ,back again and now I can do voice calls, this is ok, but the cell can't work 3g networks, any company, I have tried every thing, mobile uncle tools 3 roms from need rom, APNS are ok configured, any ideas ?

Same issue with A830
I am also having the same problem with my A830. I think it lost IMEI when I did a full format using Flash Tools v3.1304.0.119. Tried restoring with all 5 solutions cybermaus posted without success. MTK tools show both IMEis that I have restored but phone will not connect. Once it actually worked, I could receive/make calls but it got blocked again within 1 hour.
I flashed another A830 with the same firmware and didn't have these problems. Have also tried several different firmware, but no success.
Very frustrated. Please heeeeelp!

Well, I don't say that flashing a new firmware is 100% safe, sure there is a risk. But it's highly unlikely (if the ROM has correct structure) flashing an official ROM ruins your nvram block. I've flashed offical firmwares for A820 numerous times and I never had such issues.
The problem in your case is called "full nand format from Flash Tools". If you do this, then all is lost and there's only one way I know to permanently restore IMEI's, BT and MAC address. However, I won't post such information here.
I can try to help people on PM, but be sure I'll never post it on the forum.

I would very much appreciate your help, and am willing to pay for your help My email: [email protected] . Thanks again
Hi, I have a similar problem with my Lenovo A820, but it has started without any firmware upgrade or anything I did myself....
I have an area (around the lower third of the screen) wich has erratic behavior : 80% of the time everything is ok, but 20% of the time, doesn't recognize some actions, in particular tap and drag .....
I have followed the Infrared tutorial, but the problem persist. Again, I don't think it's a hardware failure because it's not permanent, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the rom installed.

[Q] IMEI error

Hi all
I have an Ainol AX7 flame tablet. Because of a ROM fault i had to flash the newest original stock ROM version b07. Everything is going fine but i have no 3G anymore...unknown IMEI. I tried to write the IMEI back with the AT+ command in MTK Engineering tool but get the error AT command failed to sent. I cant find a solution for it.
I have no backups because i thought it was safe to flash stock original rom and i had no root or custom recovery.
Any ideas ?

Just to clarify, what do you mean by "I have no backups". You don't have any, even old, Nandroid backup of your phone? And you have never done a back up of your EFS folder ?

I’ve actually only read information about that for my device in this thread, so it might not be relevant to yours. But in your case, the best way may be to go in a phone shop to repair it, it is apparently cheap.
Easy Solution:
Write down your imei from box or sticker or something on the phone.
Download SN Write Station and just search youtube 'how to recover imei using SN Write Station '
Done
Good Luck

No offense but you can reduce the posts by searching for similar issues before you post a query. There have been people who faced same issues before you for sure. Nevertheless, here are some directions/insights.
These are very common issues (two issues) which most users face post flashing.
Issues viz.
1) Bootloop
2) No network
3) Thirdly, you may face WiFi issues with error "NVRAM WARNING: Err=0x10" (Refer references below to fix this, if faced)
Its likely a bootloop if phone doesn't startup n keeps showing the logo n boots again to display logo back.
Your post doesn't suggest if phone enters into system OR just stays displaying the boot image? Since you said the SIM is not working which means it does get into the system (my assumption) .
Well either ways, the issue is caused by flashing a custom recovery. The Network operators identify your phone based on IMEI number/s. Best thing to do as a best practice is take backups timely. You can avoid situations like these post flashing a new ROM/Custom Recovery.
Some of the handy tools for MTK phones/devices are SP Flash and MTKDroid to which you can find plenty links.
Also, If you have a NVRAM backup of the Stock ROM prior to flashing a custom recovery, IMEI can be restored using SP Flash tool.
Alternatively, you can find the IMEI on:
1) Your handset/mobile box back panel
2) Behind the battery (Remove battery to check the inside sticker)
Since this issue has already been covered earlier, not going into details. Check reference below. Most of your questions will be answered, all I have done is consolidated the links, so kindly read ones which apply to you and follow at your own risk.
